640x480 layout broken in iTunes 5

Moved this over from the Installation forum at the suggestion of b noir.
Just installed iTunes 5. Running on XP SP2, nVidia card hooked up to the TV, 640x480 output through S-Video. In fullscreen mode, the equalizer/'now playing' panel is hidden -- and if I can fool around with resizing the window and minimizing and maximizing to get it to appear, the window controls disappear or the layout runs off the right edge of the screen. The layout widgets don't want to share space, though there's enough. Did Apple up the screen size requirements or something Never had a problem in iTunes 4. Anyone else having a problem like this?

Any luck on getting Firefly to work with iTunes 10.6? I can get the NAS to show up on the left hand side, but I can't get iTunes to read it.

Assuming you are in a region where you are allowed to redownload your past music purchases, delete the broken tracks from your iTunes library, go to the iTunes Store home page, click the Purchased link from the Quick Links section in the right-hand column, then select Music and Not on this computer. You should find download links for your tracks there.
If the problem persists, or that facility is not yet available in your region, contact the iTunes Store support staff through the report a problem links in your account history, or via Contact Support.

"Covert High Bitrate to AAC 128K...." for iPod Shuffle Broken in iTunes 7

I store all my music in Apple lossless for home listening, then use the covert to AAC 128K when laoding my shuffle...great feature, the reason I went the iTunes/shuffle route. This worked good, although a little slow in 6. It is now broken in iTunes 7, it takes an hour per song - not usable. Any ideas on this?

It seems to me that you've ended up somewhere between AIFF and AAC. Because WMP supports buttloads of formats, it will play the files, the iPod is much more finicky.
There are two settings on the importing tab preferences pane: one that chooses the file format, the other at what bit rate. Simply select AAC and 128 or higher and reimport music from CD's. I would recommend deleting the AIFF versions BEFORE you reimport however, so you or iTunes don't get confused as to which one is which since the titles will all appear exactly alike.

The "get info" function is broken in iTunes 10 (and in iTunes 9.2)

*Steps to reproduce this iTunes BUG:*
_Step 1._
Edit some track info (the id3 tags) in a third party program.
(I'm a DJ, so I'm using Serato Scratch Live http://serato.com/scratchlive to edit most tags)
_Step 2._
Select all tracks in iTunes and press cmd+I to for the "Get Info" dialog.
_Step 3._
Click the "OK" button in the "Multiple Item Information" dialog.
*Expected Result:*
iTunes scans through all the selected tracks and updates any info that has been change in the 3rd party program. (This is default behavior in iTunes 9.1.1 and below)
*Actual Result:*
iTunes will _no longer scan_ the files for updated info, it will only check if the files are still are available on disk.
*Why this is such a big deal:*
I get new music almost every day. All tracks need to go into the DJ software for BPM analyze and organization. Tracks will then be imported into iTunes and added to several smart lists for syncronization to my iPods. After this function was broken there is no longer an easy way to update my smart lists with the new tracks coming in.
_Extra info:_
Settings "*Keep iTunes Media Folder Organized*" & "*Copy files to iTunes Media Folder when adding to Library*" are turned off. I need to manage my media folders manually.

I'm doing quite a lot of work on all of my files regulary. (at least twice a week: fridays before DJ gigs, sundays after, and a probably a few times during the week too.) In short, I go through my tracks in Serato Scratch Live, add the text "3 star" etc, to the comments field (Serato Scratch Live don't read the iTunes star ratings), fix any genre tags (got a pretty extensive systems for those) etc, then rescan in iTunes and add the iTunes star rating as well.
Then there is smart lists in iTunes (based on star ratings, added date, genre etc.) that I sync to my iPods to keep updated on the go. This makes for a VERY efficient system for organizing the top tracks, and weeding out anything I don't want. (i will also do star ratings on the iPod on the go, re-sync to iTunes and add the to the comments field)
If I had to find every track manually in iTunes after doing the "star" comment tag in Serato Scratch Live, it would defeat the purpose. I would never manage to get by. I mean, iTunes only need to check if the file itself has changed since last id-scan, then read any new tag.
Even backup programs like Carbon Copy Cloner can go through 45.000 files in a snap, and only copy the altered ones, so why should it be so hard to rescan tags in iTunes?
To top this off:
I have loads of music ripped to my master archive (about 10.000 album cd's) So I'm always digging for tracks, rediscovering my collection. That's what DJ'ing is about I think, digging for the hidden gems. So yes, I'll never be done tagging all my songs, but at least if the rescan worked like it should, it would make my life "liveable"
After 2 month of neglect Id like to hear anyone from Apple comment on this.
Ive been using Macs for about 15 years, but this kind of thing is really disappointing.

"Genre" selection broken in iTunes 9.2?

In iTunes 9.2, the "Genre" pop-up on the "Info" page of the "Item Information" dialog appears to have broken. Clicking the drop-down arrow displays the list of genres, but selecting any item from the list leaves the field blank. Typing in a genre does work. It's broken on both the single item and multiple item information dialogs.
Is anyone else seeing the same? I'm running iTunes 9.2 on XP Media Center Edition, if that makes any difference. It worked fine in previous versions of iTunes.

One of the other frequent contributors to the forum has suggested that we should all send our own feedback, see http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2466004 which, upon reflection, I think is probably a good idea. There's a link to the feedback in the other thread.

Audiobook handling broken in iTunes 10

I know this subject has been handled a group of times before, but most of the answers seem to be more appropriate for earlier versions of itunes. I haven't found 10 discussed specifically.
I have been importing audiobooks from various sources, ripped CDs, downloads, etc. Before 10, I would then convert the files to AAC and then run Make Bookmarkable. As this process proceeded, you could see the files disappear from the music folder and they would appear in the audiobook folder. Now Make Bookmarkable is broken by 10, and I have tried to use the things listed (Options - media type - audiobook) that others have described. I have tried trashing the files and reimporting the AAC files to itunes. No joy.
Does anyone have any other ideas on what I should try? TIA

Never mind. I searched a little farther and realized that I was clicking audiobook on the info page rather than the options page. Makes all the difference.

Whilst in iTunes log into your account and you will see
de-authorize all your registered computers and re-gister the valid ones.
Worked for my, but no guarantee.

Hm, Simo's the guy in charge of this stuff. I have a feeling he's busy right now, I think he was starting university this fall. So be patient.
I know someone once asked for the files (or maybe it was the punbb files...) and he had posted them somewhere, but I have no idea where. I can only suggest a good forum search for it.
We had talked about publicly posting the files somewhere, but as far as I know, nobody ever got around to it. :-(
I'm thrilled at your interest though. I would try to look into it, but I'm pretty sure in the end he's the only one that knows where the files are. If he doesn't get back to you in a week or so, let me know and I'll see if I can pester him.

ITunes update 11.0.2 has broken my iTunes, won't even open

I plugged in my iPhone to sync and recharge when the notification popped up that an update for iTunes was available. When first attempting to downloaded the 11.0.2 iTunes update, it got to the end of downloading and then gave me an unspecific error message. I shut everything down, restarted, and my second try at downloading the update worked. Now upon attempting to open iTunes, however, nothing happens--just the old 'iTunes quit unexpectedly' and the prompt to submit an error report. I read that there might be a problem with firewall, but my firewall is turned off. I read that there might be a problem with McAfee anti-virus programs, but I don't have one. Another suggestion was uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes though Terminal, which I did next. Upon launching, same problem 'iTunes unexpected quit' and a prompt to send the error report. In trying to sync, my iPhone now also doesn't work--seems to be locked trying to restore since iTunes has bugged out. Help?

8.1.1 has broken my iTunes store

I updated to 8.1.1 on both iMac G4 and PB. Neither machine is now playing videos or films (as previews) from the store properly. The preview eventually plays but at the same time the progress bar in the top window disappears. When the video finishes all pictures are lost and returning to the iTunes store home page only text is presented. Futhermore, going back to my library, store and playlist menu on the left hand side, all the information is erased and songs in the library have disappeared. I can only get it all back by quitting iTunes.

APEX 5: report layouts broken after download

Hi, after switching from 4.02 to 5.0, I´m testing the new environment. Today I run into a problem I cannot solve. I have a lot of report layots stored in the section in Shared components, alle Named Columns RTF format. All these layouts are working fine in the application. But if I download one, the result is a damaged file. MS Word can not open it ('file is damaged' or 'not enough space' ). It also looks like the downloaded file is always bigger then the uploaded source.
I did a test:
- download one layout from a backup server (with APEX 4.02)
- controlled it by opening in Word, all fine
- upload to APEX 5.0
- test in the application, result is ok.
- download again: file size changed from 284kB to 388kB, file is damaged.

Getting back to your report layout download problem - there is an issue with certain versions of the database, which causes CLOB_TO_BLOB conversion to not always work properly (bug 7459168). This is what is causing the download of your RTF documents to produce invalid results. The files in your database are not affected by this, it's only an issue on export. To work around this database bug we've filed bug 20931298, and we've implemented a fix for this, which will be available with out first patch set, APEX 5.0.1. As usual, I do not have a date yet when this will be available. Can I ask what version of the database you are currently using?

Delete key broken in iTunes

I am running Mac OSX 10.6.8 and iTunes 10.4.1, and when I click on an album or artist name to edit it, for example, if I place my cursor to the right of the last letter or select the last word and hit my delete key, all it does is highlight the character to the left. And if I continue to hit the delete key the cursor does nothing, it won't even delete anything. Any advice would be helpful.

While there are programs that will let you copy music from your iPod back to your computer, the problem is that if you delete the music files from your computer and then the iPod breaks, you are left with none of your music.
Best thing to do is to backup the files on CD's or DVD's before you delete them from your computer. That's what the Backup command on the file menu is for. Or you can just create playlists and burn them to CD.
That way if the iPod crashes you still have a copy of your music.

ITunes Screensaver Broken after iTunes 11 update

After upgrading, the iTunes screensaver now only displays the most recently downloaded artwork (currently 1 album, 3 podcast backgrounds).
Anyone else experiencing this, or has in the past as it may just be coincidental with the update? And of course any solutions.

Mine won't even shut down, it hangs everything up, ignores the force feature and the only way i can reboot is to hold down the power button. I have come to the conclusion that my mac book was defective since day 1. I have given them 6 months to make it better and no go. So they are sending me a new one. Hopefully that should solve the problem. I started having problem right out of the box. They actually wanted me to allow some randon apple guy in shreveport to replace a motherboard on a mac book pro less that a week old. I said no, you have six months to figure this out or send me a new one. They six was up yesterday and my new one should be in the mail shortly. Apple's tech support is top notch.
