645, GeForce2, XP and AGP IRQ

I've had a 645 Ultra-C MB for about 6 months now and all was fine until I "upgraded" to Windows XP...
I've hit a problem where the NVidia GF2 drivers don't start correctly and seem to have found that I need to set the VGA IRQ in the bios (The M$oft GF2 drivers do work, but don't support Glide/OpenGL).
I think I saw a couple of references to this in other threads, but can someone please confirm that this feature is lacking in the MSI AMI BIOS and that I therefore can't solve the problem? Is there an official list of things that MSI have committed to fixing in future BIOS releases?

Resources are set to auto, but there's no setting for PNP OS that I can find. I think the problem is made worse by Windows XP which doesn't necessarily pay attention to what the BIOS sets. It currently has my display driver set to IRQ 16 (which is a virtual IRQ), despite the BIOS showing IRQ 10.
All I've got to believe in on this is similar problem reports about Windows 2000 and one or two I've find of similar problems with Windows XP. The problem didn't exist with Windows 98SE, so I know that it's not a physical hardware problem as such.
Sounds like my son can't play Medal of Honour (the offending OpenGL game) until I upgrade my PC to a new motherboard...

• USB Ports and AGP Video Card on same IRQ

I've got a tough one.  I have 6 USB ports.  Call them 1,2,3,4,5,6. Ports 1 and 2 work fine with my new USB 2.0 80GB External Harddrive.  This pair of ports 1 and 2 are direct into motherboard.
However system crashes when I plug USB 2.0 External Drive into ports 3,4,5,6. These are Dports with cables that plug into the MB.  One of these Dports has the four error lights which are all green.  Western Digital has cautioned against sharing this drive with other IRQs.  Says that the video card and the WD harddrive require dedicated IRQs...but I have no control of how W XP assigns them.
Ports #3-6 work fine with mouse,  scanner, and printer etc. However they fail when trying to use WD External Hardrive.
I also checked IRQ settings and IRQ 16 is used for a USB Port and for my MSI AGP video card.  I believe this conflict is the cause of the problem.
So help..how do I fix this dilemma?
I have Windows XP and see no way to change IRQs.
BIOS does not even show IRQ as a choice..only 1-15.  Also BIOS is latests version for my MSI 845G Max L MS-6580 mother Board.  USB drivers are all Intel.  Video Card Is MSI AGP MS-8878 G4Ti/MX 420 w TV out.  Bios and Drivers are current.
How can I run the USB 2.0 External Harddrive in Ports 3-6?

I did load new Intel INF Drivers and AGP drivers yesterday.
No luck USB Ports 3-6 still fail with External Hard Drive.
I'm not clear on how to turn back on AICP or ACIP.  BIOS?
Also not IRQs 16-23 are listed with active devices on the Device Manager
16 has a USB Controller at 24c2
16 also has AGP video card
17 has Audio '97
17 also has Fast Eternet.
18 has USB Controller at 24c7
19 has USB Controller at 24c4
23 has PCI to USB Interface.
Port 3-6 do work fine with mouse, dig cam, Scanner, printer.  These ports only fail with External Harddrive plugged in.  Ports 1and2 work fine with external HD??
So question is how do I check on the IRQ ports using AIPC or APIC...or whatever the name is...thanks folks.

• Who knows how to divide PCI and AGP BUS frequency with MSI KT6V mainboard

It is auto set to change due to being hardwired into the chip, you just can't see it due to not the correct reading device.

• Video and lan irq conflict

KT4V MB w/amd 2600+ barton
GeForce 5600 fx ultra
windows 98se
512 mb ram
Appears to be no option to force lan irq which subsequently follows the video irq.
I have tried reserving irqs to force an different irq with the lan disabled, but it still loads on the same irq as the video card.  Any suggestions or is the lan sharing with the agp port and so may consider it useless?

Yup buy a NIC and pop it in . I had that same problem sharing my onboard sound with AGP video.I know people say sharing IRQs in XP pro is no biggie but with so many available IRQs i dont understand how anyone would want to , especially if they are hardcore gamers such as myself........
I popped in my Gamer x soudblaster and killed that problem .

• CMEDIA / AGP IRQ Conflict

I have a KT4 Ultra (MSI-6590) with BIOS v1.4.  Am using the onboard CMEDIA audio with a GeForce4 Ti4800SE AGP video card (8x).  The devices seem to be sharing IRQ 16 and it is causing my audio to stutter during certain graphically intense applications (games).  I need to know how to resolve this conflict BESIDES using an add-on audio card.  Thanks.

• 645 Ultra-C and ATI Radeon 9000 Pro

Hi there --
I have a 645 Ultra-C with P4 1.7mhz attached to it. It has 640mb of RAM, Audigy 2, and brand new ATI Radeon 9000 pro. It's running WindowsXP
The issue is that upon installing the ATI card into the machine WindowsXP is freezing and then recovering with an error message about a device failure. In checking the system log I see an error message about the ATI driver being stuck in a loop.
I am using the driver I downloaded from the ATI web site along with the ATI control panel software also downloaded from the ATI site. The drivers are the latest.
I am able to regain stability by disabling hardware acceleration in Display Properties. This is less then ideal.
I'm using version 7.2.0.1130 of the AGP driver. I'm not sure which BIOS rev, it would be the one the motherboard shipped with. However I'm unable to flash the BIOS really since I do not have access to a 98/ME box. As I understand it I can only flash the BIOS from a 98/Me startup floppy on a non-FAT machine. LiveUpdate gives me an error message about the service not being started and that LiveUpdate only works with MSI graphics cards.
In the BIOS I’ve switched the primary video card from PCI to AGP. I’ve even downgrade from AGP 4x to APG 2x using the AGP utility.
Any ideas?

flashed up to 1.90 via LiveUpdate2, after pulling ATI card and running on tnt2 card, and now I'm cranking

• PCI/AGP IRQ conflict in Win2000

Frenchy writing from France
Angry & impatient I am, but first things first, my specs:
PSU: Antec Trueblue 480W
Mboard: K7N2 Delta-L, BIOS 5.2
RAM: 2*512 Mb PC3200 Samsung, set at 400Mhz
CPU: Athlon XP 2400+, set(o/c) at 11*200 (thus 1:1 with RAM)
Winfast Geforce 4Ti 4200 AGP 4X
Creative SBlive 1024 now in PCI slot 3
HSF: Taisol CGK760172, fan in extraction mode (to reduce chipset temp by 5°C!!!)
Enermax 80mm case fan
Two recent HDDs (Maxtor) & optical drives (Liteon)
USB ADSL modem
APIC disabled
OS: Microsh*t Windows 2000, SP4
System status: CPU 49°C, chipset 47°C (weather temp: 41°C!)
Here goes:
My system sometimes crashes when I simultaneously play a movie, and an mp3 (I get a "sound loop", system freezes, no blue screen but I need to reboot) or on even rarer occasions (only once, actually) when I send an email (this time I got the dreaded blue screen.
I have pinpointed a possible and highly probable cause for this: my Vcard and soundcard share the same IRQ (IRQ11 to be precise). My SBlive used to be on PCI slot 2. This was (and still is!) my IRQ share/conflicts table:

IRQ 11   OpenHCD standard USB Host Controller
IRQ 11   OpenHCD standard USB Host Controller
IRQ 11   Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller
IRQ 11   Creative SB Live! Value
IRQ 11   NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200

IRQ11 is thus not shared only by the Vcard & sound card, but something told me that the first 3 lines of the table did not matter, however I've often heard (and read, even in this forum) that having a graphics card & sound card share the same IRQ is definitely not a good idea and should be avoided by all means.
Forgive my lack of knowledge, for I'm but a mere newbie in this matter. This I tried:
- Enabling APIC (whatever it is ?( I just know that it sort of "creates" more IRQs), to no avail: the number of IRQs, their layout and conflicts table remained unchanged.
- Moving SBlive from slot 2 to slot 3 and reinstalling its drivers: NOTHING changed either, soundcard IRQ remained at 11 !!!  ?(  ?(  ?(
Upon entering 'system properties' and 'devices', when selecting the SBlive card, in the 'resource' thumbnail, everything is greyed out, no parameters can be changed! Same thing applies to other devices such as Vcard, too...
A most desperate situation this is, for it would seem that changing a PCI card's IRQ in Windows 2000 is simply IMPOSSIBLE, sacrebleu!
Needless to say, this makes me mad X( , I mean really, really MAD

Changing WHAT??? If you mean the IRQ, as I said that seems impossible in Win2000 (if somehow could tell me how I'd be most grateful). If you meant changing APIC setting to 'enabled', how do I enable it in windows?
But the question remains: how is it that when changing soundcard's PCI slot its IRQ remains unchanged?? ?(

• MS 6339 and AGP not recognised?

I have a P4 with the 850 chipset and a GeForce 3500 Ti.
The mobo supports 4x AGP, but no program I have seems to recognise this.  Running SiSoft Sandra tells me the AGP is not being used, and the adapter properties tells me it is AGP (in PCI mode)?
I now have Nvidia Omega drivers which tells me that the AGP is disabled?
What do I need to do to get the AGP recognised correctly?  I have looked in the BIOS, but there is no option that would seem to help (the 850 has onboard graphics, but there is not option to disable this).  Is it something to do with the IRQ settings?
Please help!!

You need to install the intel inf - as with any other chipset the AGP operates in PCI mode unless the AGP drivers are installed.
The correct order of doing things is:
Operatind service pack if relevent
chipset drivers
directX
VGA drivers
Once you do that the card should be running in AGP mode.

• Problem with expressCard and PCI IRQ

Hi all,
my system: Ideapad S9e, product number 4068-38G, Windows XP Home.
I use an audio express card from RME (HDSPE Expresscard). When the card is inside the slot, the Ideapad S9e does not start up. The fan starts, stops, and the screen stays black.
When I remove thee card, the boot process continues but a message comes up
Error
Warning: IRQ not configured - PCI on Motherboard
     Bus:00, Decive: 1C, Function: 02
And, then, everytime I start, the message comes, even if the card is not inserted.
I updated the BIOS, it's version is from the 11/19/08
I can not configure any interrupts in the BIOS.
When I hot-plug the card in Windows, that is, I start without the card and insert it afterwards, it works.
Any idea what's wrong?
Regards,
Rainer

Well this is dishearting as I just ordered this for the Express Card slot that I need to run Serial devices with.
My question would be has anyone going into the BIOS and looked at what the system is asigning the Express Card slot as an IRQ ? I had some issues with an old Win2k system where trhe BIOS and the OS were fighing over IRQ's.
If this is an issue then this will be returned as soon as I get it here.

So I have ordered FCS 2 for my business(Videography with HDV cameras).

• MSI KT3 ULTRA2-C and AGP compatibility

Hi, I'm just about to buy a new motherboard these days, MSI KT3 ULTRA2-C, with an XP 2000/2000+ and memory, but not a new video card, since i can't afford it right now. I only have an AGP Creative 3D Blaster Banshee 16 MB, but it is a 3.3v agp card (AGP 1.0). I was wondering if this motherboard can support it, i checked in a lot of places, including the manual and it doesn't say anything about the voltage it can take, neither if the AGP slot is universal or not (i.e. if it can support both 1.5/3.3v or only 1.5v). The manual for the KT3V specifically says '4x 1.5v only', but this one just says 'AGP 2.0 1x/2x/4x'. I really need to know this since otherwise i'd have to wait two months to afford another video card. I also checked another post here with an answer to a page with AGP explanation, but it didn't help. Thanks you very much, really

     One AGP slot
     - AGP (Accelerated Graphics Port) specification compliant
     - Supports AGP 2.0 1x/2x/4x
so whats the problem, your fine there

• XP64 and AGP acceleration

I have posted this question on many forums, as I am not the only one experiencing this problem. The scenario is as follows. I have a Master2-FAR with 2 Opteron 246 CPUs, and a new GeForce 6800 Ultra card (though this is not limited to the 6800 series). Latest nVidia Forceware drivers at the time, 61.76, and Windows XP x64 Edition build 1218 (this problem also exists in 1184 and the modified version of 1069.) The BIOS is updated to the latest beta BIOS version provided by MSI, and well, as for VIA chipset drivers, there are none to install in XP64 - "AGP" drivers are provided by M$. If I goto DxDiag, AGP texture acceleration is enabled. However, if you run CPU-Z, or any software diagnostics that can tell you about AGP support, there is no AGP transfer rate/displayed as 0x, no sideband addressing, no faswrite support. All BIOS settings are optimally configured. The nVidia driver displays the card as running in PCI mode, there is no AGP setup tab, whether the driver is modified with Coolbits 2 or not. A 6800 Ultra running in PCI mode is NOT a happy situation. Anyone with any information on it, please, please, please help. This is a very frustrating situation.

So I broke down and installed XP32, just to see how fast it would run in comparison - the difference is night and day. First off, the nVidia driver says that my card is running on the AGP bus at an 8x transfer rate. Secondly, the nVidia 6800 Nalu demo runs with no choppiness, it's rather beautiful actually. 3DMark03 scores went up from 6000 3DMarks to 11914 3DMarks. Almost double the score!!! 3DMark 2001 went from 14800 3DMarks to over 20364 3DMarks... the "Wings of Fury" benchmark was hitting over 1500 FPS at some points in 3DMark03. So the problem is most definitely not hardware. The only thing I think that probably is the culprit has to do with the stupid Microsoft CPU to AGP controller. It may not be picking up on the motherboard ID that corresponds to the AGP controller. Since the next release of XP64 is scheduled to be within a few days (fingers crossed, M$ always messes around with release dates), I'm hoping they've solved that problem. However, if anyone wants to give this a try, I'd be happy if you  have any other suggestions.

I have exactly same problem, video in connector doesn´t work, with ME it worked fine.  All drivers are installed and everything should be like it´s supposed to be, but all it says is that some tv-tuner is using driver. I´ve never installed any tv-card drivers or anything like that. Motherboard is Epox 8-RDA with nvidia chipset

• Onboard VGA and AGP card

AS far as I understand, if I install an AGP card, it will automatically disable the onboard vga. Is it possible to have both enabled? I'd like to connect two monitors and use two separate desktops. One possible solution would be to install a dual head card, but the one that I have is a full-size card. So I'd like to use my old half-size ATI AGP card and onboard chip - is it possible?

no, because the onboard agp shares the AGP slot. you cannot use both together

You can't use the onboard AGP along with an add-on AGP card. Only one card can ride the AGP bus at a time. WHat you'll need is either a PCI card to use with the onboard AGP, or an add-on AGP card that will do twin output. Many will using the VGA port and the DVI port (with an adapter of course).
