645E max booting

Does anyone know what the beep patterns on the MSI 645E Max (MS-6547 v 2.X) are during boot up? They are not listed in the manual nor could I find it on the site.

I dont know the bbep codes but until someone posts them for you you could try the following...
Most common causes of beeps during bootup is 'ram not seated correctly, take out and reseat, and video card not seated properly, again take out and reseat'
Thats something that you could try before you get a better reply... sry if this proves to be no use.
PS: what beeps are you hearing?

  • WARNING !!! the new BIOS (5.2) for 645E max U won't boot with ad

I've just tried to flash the BIOS 5.2 for the MSI 645E max U, and my computer didn't boot after that ! (I've an adaptec 29160).
I tried to reinstall windows XP, and nothing... no recognition of my hard disk, despite it is recognized in the list of bootable devices in the bios setup.
I came back to version 5.1, and all is ok now...
Hope you will fix that in the next version !

Definately not the power supply .. I just tried a 350 watt and a 430 and still same issue.  There's only 2 parts I haven't replaced ... the motherboard and the cpu ... so it's got to be either one of them but I don't have any xtra gear here to try :(

  • 645E Max-U MB Won't Boot

    I recently purchased a 645E Max U MS-6547 MB and installed:
    Northwood p4 2.4GHz proccesor,
    PC2700 DDR 512 MB RAM,
    geforce4 Graphics card,
Diamond Max Ultra ATA/133  120 GB 7200RPM E-IDE hard drive
My problem is that I cannot get the system to turn on at all.  When I attempt to switch it on nothing happens occasionally the cpu fan will move slightly never making a even a 1/4 a roatation.  I have a 350 watt Pentium 4 power supply connected to it.  I know that the switch and the power supply works becuase I tried them on an old AMD system and they powered it up.  The MB isn't faulty according to Googlegear, who I sent it back.  They ran a diagnostic test and said it worked.  I'm kinda new to this so I need all of the help I can get.

I tried doing what you listed in your reply and it still wouldn't work.  Then I returned it to the company I bought it from and they said the board tested fine.
I am wondering if the fact that the motherboard I have supports a SiS 645 DX chipset and I have an Intel 2.4 GHz 533 MHz Proccessor, Northwood B has anything to do withit.  Or in otherwords could me not having the right chipset for my processor have anything to do withit. I am new to this but I am guessing that that will not work. If you know if that could be the reason why I am not getting any response at all from the MB please let me know. If you can also help me to figure out what chipset my proccesor is, please let me know: Spec number from Intel is SL6RZ. I am also going to need to know what MB I will need to purchase for this to work. I also have 512 MB PC 2700 DDRRAM, Ultra ATA 133 120 GB hard drive, and a Geforce 4 Video card. Thanks!!

  • 645E Max HD and NIC problems?

I'm having three problems with my 645E Max and I'm not sure if they're with the motherboard or the hard drive and NIC.
    Here are the problems:
    1.  Occasionally when I start my computer I get a "Hard drive: Imminent failure.  Backup and Replace" error message.
    2.  Sometimes when I boot up, my computer goes in an very long loop.  It restarts itself about 20-30 times before getting into windows.
Up until this point it sounds like a HD problem... but the HD seems to be working fine otherwise.
    3.  The NIC sometimes doesn't seem like it's getting power (the lights on the back don't light up) when I turn it on.  Restarting usually doesn't help, but moving the NIC to another PCI slot usually fixes the problem.  ((It's not a bad PCI slot, since moving it from one to another, and then back to the original one also fixes the problem))
    Suggestions?

hehe..ok.. i had the same problem with my hdd's.
all i did was to switch places on the ide cable. fixed the problem. strange =)

  • New BUg in 645E MAX 2

Hi, I found a new bug in 645E MAX 2. When you run the FSB at 145Mhz, and boot it up, the actual frequency that it will run is 87. something... I verified this in wcpuid. On top of that, I ran the sandra benchmark and that also verified that the FSB was running slower. I change the FSB to 144 and 146, and both ran fine ehehhe...

i guess the system cant handle 145 and set itself to safe values after freezing?

  • Help on 645E Max 2

I need someone to verify with me if the CPU ratio selection under the Frequency/Voltage portion of the bios is stated as locked ??
I am having an unlocked CPU, so this selection allow me to change the values from default to 0x - 15x. But when I change the CPU ratio selection to any other values other then default, the system won't boot, checking the debug LED ( 3 red and 1 yellow) meaning setting up chitset or something like that.
As for the FSB, when set to auto, it is 133Mhz. Which is correct cause this processor is actually a P4 2.4B 2.4Ghz fsb = 133.
On top of that, the default multiplier is 12x which doesn't make sense. The cpu ratio selection is also skrewed, since the range is from 0 - 15 and not 14 - 24 ??? this is really weird !!!
    Regards,
    Jen Sen   ;(

Well actually, I got it from a friend... ehhehe Where he got it is a secret... can't help you though... but if you have a 645E max 2...please check for me if the cpu ratio selection is stated as locked ?? or can you change it... or is it default ??

  • 645E Max Hard Drive problem

I have just purchased the 645E Max MS-6547 v.2.x board. It's got a SiS 961B chipset and is supposed to support P4 processors at 533MHz.
I have 3 Western Digital hard drives plus a cdrom plugged at the moment. I jumpered them as I always have...master/slave or, if alone on one ide, no jumper at all. They were detected correctly in the bios but I was unable to get into any OS.  After the POST, I got a bunch of 9's or 1's on my screen and could go no farther. The only way I can boot into Win2K, WinMe or Win98SE  is if they are jumpered as Cable Select.  They run fine that way but I don't think Cable Select is supposed to be my only option here.
I have two HDD's on ide 1 The Prim/Master is 15GB, ata66 and Prim/Slave is 60GB, ata100 with the correct ribbon cable, and on ide 2, Sec/Master is 6GB ata33 and the cdrom as Sec/Slave.
I appear to have the most recent bios version 3.1 (I believe that's the version) and could find no updates that address this problem. LBA is enabled btw.
Has anyone else experienced this wierdity?
Also, is anyone running linux with this mobo?
    Lucyjean

OK my computer is obviously up and running because I'm here  :]  Drives on both ide controllers are jumpered cable select.  I have only one bootable drive and it's the primary master.
The drives weren't switched around.....I would have gotten some kind of system disk error message I think if that were the case and not a bunch of 1's and 9's on my screen.  The boot order in my bios is ok too.
Not only do I have to use cable select on ide 1, I have to do it on ide 2 also or it will just hang after the POST.
My bootable drive is a western digital.  Even as a standalone, I have to jumper it cable select or it hangs. After I got the computer to boot with just the one drive on ide 1, I added a hard drive to ide 2...another western digital, and couldn't get past the POST unless I used cable select on it too.  Very strange indeed.
I'm not so sure about this motherboard......

  • I think I was cheated on the 645E Max-C

I was hoping someone could answer a question.
I just purchased a 645E Max-c (well thats what the box and all said).  But when I inspected it further the motherboard had been restickered with the 645E Max-C sticker being placed over the actual board serial (which was a 645 ultra.
The only real difference between the two boards appears to be the chipsets.  One of which (Northern) I can't check because it is under the heat sink.  But should I assume that this chipset should have 645DX on it as opposed to the 645 that is installed in the ultra?
Secondly, on the second chipset (Southern), should it be marked as 961B and not the 961 as is in the ultra?
Could someone please advise me on this, so i can crack the shits with the supplier if he is wrong.
    Regards

The same thing shows up if I use live update for the bios, MS-6547.
However, Sandra shows the chipset as 645dx and the bios shows ata133, which I don't believe was available with the 645 chipset.
from the looks of it, the max-c was a bit of a frankenstien board which has already been moved into the "archive" section in MSI's products.

  • Does 645E Max/Ulta has USB 2.0 ?

    Hi, I just bought a 645E Max / Ultra MS-6547 Ver 2 MoBo.
It came with the Led D-Bracket. The reseller told me that it has USB 2.0 onboard. But the manual only mentions USB and is not specifiv on USB 1.1 or USB 2.0. Does this MoBo actually has USB 2.0 onboard?  Thanks,  Velti

  • Poor Performance with 645E Max v2.0

    I have the following setup:
    645E Max v2.0 mother board
    1.7 Ghz Pentium 4
    1 Gb RAM - Kingston 2100 - 2 * 512Mb
    Leadtek A250 - Nvidia GeForce 4 TI 4400 with 128mb
    SoundBlaster Audigy Gamer
All 4 USB ports are enabled
All Serial and Parallel ports are disabled
On board sound, midi and gameport disabled
    AGP aperture set to 512MB
    Creative Labs 32x CDROM
Western Digital 120GB IDE/EIDE Hard Drive
    300w Power Supply
Mother board set to "default" settings - no overclocking
    ViewSonic A90f monitor set to 1152x864 - 32bit color
DirextX 9 - Hardware acceleration for graphics and full-acceleration for sound
Every patch, update, version available for all software and hardware.
When I run 3DMark03 on this system I get a score below 500. When I do an online compare of similar systems (the mother boards are not the same but the sound, graphics and memory are the same) the scores are around 1500. When I look at the details my system is without exception running at a fraction of other systems in all respects.
Also, I am currently unable to play Train Simulator unless I really ease off on the graphics and sound.
Given my current hardware and expectations regarding performance should I be using a different MotherBoard? What about power supply?
I've talked to support engineers from Microsoft and Creative and they are of the opinion that my system should perform as good as any out there.
    Any thoughts?

If it's not giving you errors, and is not unstable, I would (guess) not.
Did you load all the motherboard drivers and the SIS AGP driver? Just double checking.
Edited: Have you updated the BIOS on that (3.2 or above)? There's a BIOS available that turns on fast writes. That should make a difference.
Might also check this link to the first post in this forum. Not sure if all that applies to your board also. Doesn't sound good though.

  • 645E Max-C Flashed wont POST

    I just got a Max-C 645E  Ms-6547e.
I had this problem with my ms-6529.
It wont boot into XP! I have a dual boot with  98SE and XP Pro. It boots into 98SE fine but gets to the Boot Screen of XP and I get a Blue screen error about Viruses and Newly installed HDDs. I know that isnt the problem. like I said my 6529 did the exact same thing
On the 6529 I changed the Modem/Audio settings and flashed the BIOS and it booted.
So I try it with this new POS. Flashed my bios with .31  and now it wont POST! The DLED sticks in "Early Chipset Initialization" and hangs there. Ive pulled the CMOS Battery AND jumped it to 2/3 position. At this point recovery isnt likely.
Need help. Ive been a loyal MSI user for a while now but am losing patience.
    Thanks

but nothing happens.  Nothing is written on the screen.
I can see the CPU/GPU fans working fins.
    Any ideas ?(
    Thanks,

  • 648 Max Boot Error

    Hope someone can help...
I have just built a computer on the 648Max Motherboard.
My problem is, on first boot, the BIOS detects all hardware ok, but on re-boot, it fails after the MSI splash screen to find them and has a "boot error" on each, then asks for a boot disk in the FDD but this doesn't work either.
The "D Bracket" shows all four lights green.
I have checked all the connections countless times, even taken it back to barebone with no luck. I've checked the Hard Drive in an older computer and boot up fine into Win98.
I have no clue what else to try, the system spec is :-
    P4 2.4Ghz
    684 Max Motherboard
    Xabre 128Mb DDR Ram Graphics
    2x512Mb DDR Ram PC2100 Memory
    128Gb IBM Deskstar 180GXP HDD
    TEAC CD-W54E CDRW
    Samsung DVD8E DVD
    Windows 98SE
    Thanks...

    Whipsnade...
Yes, i have tried other IDE cables that i know work fine.
Nope, i wasn't able to install windows, the hard drive was taken out of my older computer with it already installed which was working fine, and still does if i put the hard drive back.
All i have been able to do on the new computer is power up into BIOS, that's it...
The PSU i have is a brand new 350W which came with the case.
The hard drive does spin up yes...
    Andy2
Yes, the hard drive is set to master and is in the primary connector on the board, its a working drive from a previous system...
    Rob454
I've re-checked and i'm using a couple of older ide cables i know are ok, they actually have printed on them "board", "master and "slave"
Thank you all for your help, but i just don't know what to do with it now...
