648 MAX BEEP ALARM

MSI 648 MAX L
P4 2.4G 533FSB
128 CORSAIR DDR CAS 2
MSI MX440 SE-T
System was running fine.  I changed from an Intel C 1.7 to a P4 2.4G Proc.  When I booted up, I got a Hi/Lo beep tone at 1 second intervals.  The system runs ok.  There is no other problems.   System is running W-98 2nd. Edition.
I can’t find anything in the bios to get rid of the alarm.   The bios pc health reports temps under 30 C.
I can’t find any documentation about alarms in manual.

Hi,
In Pc health status, If the option is available disable Fan detection.

  • 648 max won't POST

Guys, I have a 648 max and had it running fine but now I can't get any POST.  I changed out the video card (I did find out I had a dead card) to a GF4 that works fine in my other box.  The box comes up and doesn't beep.  the DBracket show all 4 diagnostic lights green and doesn't change.  I unplugged all the power, changed the clear CMOS jumper to clear position (2-3) and took the battery out.  Left it over night and then it posted!  Turned it off to plug in my hard drive and stuff and then I get the same thing - all four LEDs are green and no sign of POST.  I have no devices or cables plugged in - just a P4 2.53G, 256 Kingston DDR333 and a GF4 card.  I have tried to clear it many times but it will not even give me a beep.  What up?!?!?  Is it RMA time?

This is getting very intersting. This is the third subject
I've seen about the same problem (mine is down to
this same scenario) I've done everything you've done
and am having the same identical problem.
My PS is TTGI 320 (320 watt) - second one I've installed
just to make certain it wasn't a PS problem.
Do we have a "flaw" in a board ?
    Hope not.

  • 648 Max warm boot issue

I have just built my first PC using a 648 Max MB. and I have a problem.
The system boots up fine from cold start, however it fails to start in the following scenarios, it just beeps once and then sits there with a blank screen.
    # Restart form Windows
    # Shutdown from Windows (system powers off OK)
    # Exit from BIOS with or without saving changes
The reset button has no effect
The only way to get the system to boot is to remove power from supply and then restart.
I note other threads of a similar nature!!!! O Dear

  • What show 2nd termo-controller on a MSI 648 MAX?

    Hi from Russia.
    I have 43 motherboards MSI 648 MAX (HT-ready).
My computers spontaneously freezes. I think, that this problem because of overheating motherboard chipset. Motherboard Monitor showing t80 Celsius on a 2nd termo controller. This is error, or really big temperature of a SiS chipset (t80 on all motherboards)?
And i have other problem in a Counter-Strike.I press ESC when i play in OpenGL mode and i have black screen with freeze (video GF4 Ti4200 AGPx8 )
Maybe anybody know how solve this problems?
    Please sorry for my english.

Did you ever resolve this?  I have a similar problem
Machine has been running with a 512 Mb/333 MHz module in slot 1 for 2 years with no problems.  I want to increase the memory size.  Tried adding all sorts of combinations of other modules, but won't boot.  I went out and purchased a compatible Kingston 1 Gb/333 MHz CAS 2.5, compatible according to Kingston site.  The memory counts to 1 Gb, and everything POST seems to work. I get a beep, and then nothing.  Trying different slots, the same problem.  The 512 Mb works in all slots, but not the 1 Gb.
What is the fix for this MSI memory upgrade issue?

  • 648 max , testing base and extended memory

I dont see the thread i answered to one time that someone spoke of using ddr400 with 648 max or max-L board and they were getting testing base and extended memory error from the LED's.  Well i just got the same error today and my system would not boot i cut the power to the PS. and turned it back on it would start to boot and hang i could barely get to the windows logo sometimes the vid card wouldnt even boot the logo to the screen. This is with an updated mobo that msi sent me that i had just put in , it seemed to run fine at first then this problem started occuring.  The only difference i had in the setup from the previous outdated board was i had the mem in DIMM 3 and not DIMM 1, so i moved the memory back over to DIMM 3 and now the problem is gone. Just something for those of you with the same problem to try.
Oh and i forgot one more issue, i cannot set the dram speed in the bios manually i have ddr 333 it should be 167 mhz so i set it to 4/5  and the system will not boot at all  i end up having to reset cmos.  I called MSI about that and they told me to just have it set to SPD , I said i know that and im fine with leaving it that way but it should let me set it manually if i wanted to and that i wondered if that had anything to do with the random " testing base and extended memory " problem.

    It was probably myt thread...
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/e_service/forum/viewindex.php?threadid=6204&boardid=10&styleid=1
Have done some testing with both DDR333 and DDR400 and my results are in the thread.
Right no I'm using my DDR400 as DDR333, manually set to 167MHz, using DIMM1, and havn't seen any problems. I'll try the DIMM3 to see if I get any changes.
And by the way.. I tried setting my DDR400 manually to 200MHz and it wouldn't boot at all. After a lot of ugly language I finally got it back to the BIOS....after a reset of the CMOS.
Seams like you should use SPD if you want to use the correct freq for your RAM.
Have you tested the new 1.3 BIOS?

  • SiS 648 MAX problem!

    Hello!
I have a very annoying problem with my MSI 648 MAX board.
The computer freezes and reboots when i put in another DIMM in it.
I have two identical TwinMos 256mb PC3200 DDR modules.
They both work fine when they arent used together.
When i put in the other one, the sympthoms i described above happen.
I have formatted c: and tryed with both WinXP and Win2000.
I'm using the latest SiS AGP & IDE drivers.
Nothing in the system is overclocked.
I have upgraded with the latest bios.
    Other system speccs:
    P4 2.0 (400mhz).
    ASUS GF4 Ti4200.
    80gb Seagate.
    350W "Noname" Powersupply.
Is this a known problem and will I just have to face the fact that this won't work? :(

    It's a JNC Power Supply 350W.
    The amps are:
    +3.3V = 24A
    +5V = 35A
    +12V = 12A
    -12V = 0.8A
    -5V = 0.5A
It has worked fine with this board before and with another board (Abit th7 II raid).
The problem itself is getting worse, windows freezes with just 1 memory-stick now :(
Formatted once again and tried WinXP and Win2k without any success..
The Memory / GFX works fine in another computer.

  • Fastest Compatable DDR RAM For 648 MAX?

I've been reading about all these problems people have been having concerning RAM/motherboard combinations, and have concluded that my RAM is what is causing my problems (XP/2000 installation difficulties, unrecognizable Gainward GF4 Ti4200 card, boot up problems).  Right now, I have one Kingston Hyper X 512MB DDR434 RAM (which is going out the door soon) installed on my 648 MAX.
I originally thought the video card problem was BIOS related because the only thing recommended by XP was to update the BIOS (said motherboard does not support your video card's features; try updating your BIOS).  I tried that through LiveUpdate, and it messed up somehow during the flash, so I tried to restore the original BIOS, but the system was very unstable after that.  I'm about to send my motherboard back for an exchange.  I just found out by reading some posts here that other people have been having the same problem with a similar RAM/video card setup.
Also, I'm having extreme difficulty installing Win2000.  It installed the first time on a test HDD, but on my new one (WD 80GB 7200RPM ATA100), it wouldn't go in at all.  ;( It went up to the final file copying part (after entering the serial number), and crashed.  It kept doing that, so I gave up and moved on to XP.  XP went in fine the first time, but it wouldn't reinstall after that, even with a reformatted drive.  Other people are having similar problems, and said that once they swapped out their RAM, their problems were gone.
I'm just looking for the fastest compatible 512MB DDR RAM available for the 648.  Thanks.

Heh, funny thing, I was messing around with some BIOS settings, and somehow got my computer to work this afternoon! 8o Reinstalled everything, and was having a good ol time!  :D
Then, and even funnier thing happened.  I went out this evening, and when I came back, the computer wouldn't work anymore!  X(  This thing is driving me nuts.  I'm definitely gonna pick up either the Corsair or Winbond memory ASAP.  Thanks for the replys everyone!
BTW, I've had the hard drive by itself with the jumperless setting from the beginning.  Also, it always wants to be the primary drive, even when it's set to slave and attached at the slave connector on the IDE cable. ?(  I know that isn't a problem right now cause I just have it by itself on the cable.

  • 648 Max: HDD capacity only 2GB (should be 30 GB) in WinXP

    Hi!
I have a problem that seems to be related to my new 648 Max motherboard. Windows XP doesn't recognise the full capacity of my HDD.
The HDD is about two years old (IBM Deskstar 75 GXP, 30.7 GB). Everything seems to be fine when i boot the computer. The motherboard BIOS recognises the HDD correctly. However, when installing Windows XP, the HDD capacity is limited to 2 GB.
There were no problems using the same HDD in Windows XP with my old motherboard.
    Anyone have any suggestions??

If you use A win98 startup disk and use FDISK how big does it say the disk is and are there any partitions on it ?

  • 648 max, Win98 NDIS.vdx driver prob?

Just installed Win98 on my new 648 Max.
It installed ok, but on statup it says error: NDIS problem
(forget the exact wording), you must restart computer.
I bypassed NDIS.vdx with safe mode step by step
start, and removed Dial up Network in control panel,
as seems this is what uses this driver.
It now boots up OK , but of course no dial up network!
I have the onboard LAN disabled.
    Any Ideas

It's probobly the same as this one.

  • 648 Max booting problem

    Hi all,
    I just installed my new 648 Max / p4 / DDR PC3200 256MB hardware.
    Sadly it will not work.
It hangs showing 4 Green LEDs.
According to the manual it means; System booting,
but nothing happens.  Nothing is written on the screen.
I can see the CPU/GPU fans working fins.
    Any ideas ?(
    Thanks,
    zzzova.

    what is your DDR400?
    I had this problem too
My first DDR400 was samsung and never boot at 400Mhz
Now i have a 512Mo DDR400 Corsair and it work very fine

  • 648 Max no booting (all leds are RED)

    Hello,
I use my 648 Max mother board for 2 year with :
    - P4 @ 2,4 Ghz
    - two PC2700 DDR 512 Mo
    - the D-Bracket 2
    - two hard disk

    - sound blaster live! 5.1
Since yesterday, my computer don't start (whithout hardware change) : All D-Bracket 2 LEDs are red.
Is just a mother board problem or the problem can be provided by an another component (like processor, ram, ...)
    Thank you
    Damien

try clear CMOS. Try your CPU on other motherboard. Try other CPU on your motherboard.

  • NVIDIA driver 1.13 for 648 max?

while reading this review of sis 648 boards:
    http://www6.tomshardware.com/mainboard/20021204/sis648-10.html
I came across nVIDIA driver 1.13 drivers which they appearently used in there testsetup for the chipset. What is this about? Is it some alternative to the sis drivers? Does anyone use it on a msi 648 max and is it any good?

    How typical of tom....
    They ment SiS AGP 1.13.
