648 max L and kingmax ddr 400

I can't get the Kingmax DDR 400 memory to work with the 648 Max L motherboard using SPD settings.  What are the proper settings to get it to work?  Thanks.
P.S. I have BIOS 1.4

Set the ram timming to normal , and the cas to 2.5 , then boot up.. if all is still stable then you can set the ram setting to fast . but don't go above that because it will not boot after that.. But I will tell you this , you won't gain anything but going higher.. in real world apps that is..

  • KT4AV and 1Go DDR 400 RAM...

Hi all ! Sorry for my bad english, i'm french.
I have a problemwith RAM. I've just bought 1 Go RAM DDR 400.
On my KT4AV user's guide, it is said that this motherboard can support up to 3 Go RAM, but just one DDR 400.
This morning, i try to add this 1 Go RAm to my 3rd slot (the 2 others have each 256 Mo RAM). Everything seemed to work good: windows boot up fine, my system only show 1.256 GO RAM...I tried to launch a game anyway: my system rebooted!
I tried to just let the 1 Go RAM: my system boot, but when i try to launch a game (Red Orchestra or Max Payne 2 or Silent Hunter 3 or European Air War), my system freeze, i can't even use ctrl+alt+suppr...all i can do is reset!
    Do you have any advices?
    My system is:
    AMD Athlon 2600 + 1.92 Ghz
    GeForce 7600 GS AGP 8x 512 RAM
    Windows XP Pro
Fortron Epsilon 600 watts for my power supply.
512 DDR 400 (for now....one thing is funny: the user's guide tells that only one DDR 400 can be supported, but i've 256 DDR 400 on my slots and everything is good!!!)

Freezing mostly is from an overheating processor. Could you say temps, please.
Processor and memory runs best at equal speeds.
... What if you made your left leg move faster than the right one, how would your "system" move along.

  • SiS AGP drivers with 648 MAX-F and TI-4600 GS

A few days ago I bought a new computer. Here are the specs:
    Compucas 6A21B 300W SuperLowNoise
    Intel Pentium 4 Northwood 2,4GHz
    MSI 648 MAX-F
    Kingston 512Mb 333Mhz DDR
    Seagate Barracuda ATA V 80Gt 7200rpm
    Gainward Geforce4 Ti4600 ultra/750 XP golden sample
    windows 2000
I have tried everything to get the SiS AGP drivers work. Every time I start with them I get a white screen with colourful horizontal lines. There is also gray at the bottom of my screen. This picture comes after the windows screen, when it should say preparing network connections and everything. I have service pack 3 and DirectX 9. I have tried many different versions of the drivers from both MSI and Gainward/NVidia. I even upgraded my BIOS. From bios I have tried all the DRAM timing things. Now I have a nice set of drivers on my computer. Is there anything else to do than wait for new drivers? It works fine after I uninstall the AGP drivers. Does the operating system matter?

Did you try the newest drivers from Nvidia's website?
Did you try video card in another system when you had it in the shop, and another video card in your system? I take it you did a clean install of Windows XP. Mine has had no problems in WindowsXP, It's a Chaintech Ti4600. While I do have Windows 2000, I haven't used it on this system so I'm no help there. Also did you try setting BIOS to default settings? Come to think of it, I think it defaults to graphics card in PCI slot, maybe I'm thinking of another board. Don't know if that would make a difference anyway. Can you go into safemode and update or remove the agp drivers and start over? Is this fun or what? Did the AGP drivers you installed, create a Sis agp utility folder in the start menu? That might give you some information about any possible problems. What are the agp voltage readings in the BIOS?
Oops! Checked my BIOS, there is no setting for graphics card in PCI slot. Way too many motherboards.  I'd try re-installing XP from scratch, install all sis drivers, install Nvidia drivers, install XP service pack. If that doesn't work, get mad, scream and run out the front door with arms flailing!

  • MSI FX5900 Ultra 256 MB and MSI 648 MAX

I have just installed my new FX5900 Ultra graphics card and when ever the card runs any 3D application for more than a couple of minutes, my PC will instantly shut down. The only way I can get it back up, is to remove my power cable from the PSU and wait about 20 seconds and then the PC will boot again.
I have checked the temperature of the card before and after the shutdown; and the latest Nvidia reference drivers show a GPU core temperature of 37 C. In addition, if I put my original GeForce 3 back into my computer, I experience no problems.
Looking on the internet, I have come across other people who have had a similar problem and this was resolved by changing the AGP slot to run at 4x rather than 8x. I have gone through the 648 Max BIOS and am unable to find anywhere where I can step down to 4x AGP.
Any Help Will Be Greatly Received.
    Regards,
    Macross

Thanks for your help guys. Whilst I have not been able to pick up my new powersupply, I have removed the Q-Tec 400W and put my old 300W PSU back, and guess what?? My PC has not shutdown since.
This power supply lark is totally new to me, and it does seem that a good quality 300W PSU can be better than a average 400W. I have never looked at the 3.3, +5 and +12 before, just the total wattage. Well, you do live and learn. Though it would have been nice if MSI put information like this in the manual of the card, or the WEB FAQ's.
I shall pick up my new 520W PSU on Saturday. Then I can put this new 5900 Ultra through its paces!!
    Thanks
    Macross.

  • AGP 8X and Fastwrite with MX440 8X on 648 Max L

    Hi,
    I own the 648 Max L and I have just bought a MSI Geforce4 MX440 8X. I have SiS Agp drivers 1.15 installed and:
    1. AGP 8X does not work although I can "enable" it
    2. It says that the board does not support AGP Fastwrite but the graphic card does.
Can I please have some feedback on these issues thank you.
    Razvan

I take it you're seeing this with the AGPUtil?  I have found the same results with my mobo, but (and this is a but) I think it's just reading the info wrong.  ATI SmartGart lists AGP 8x and Fastwrites working, while agputil does not.
Also, if you read the info file that came with those drivers (if you got them from MSI), certain motherboards are not compatible with the newer AGP drivers, and thus use v1.12.  I've been looking for the AGPUtil that came with that version to double check, but haven't been able to find it.
[Edited] Maybe someone who has either of the two boards with the newest AGP drivers can offer their results as well...

  • K8T Neo and Kingmax Problems!!!!

    Hi
    Ok so basically ive got a K8T Neo Series K8T800 with a 64bit 3200+.
When I bought it came with 2x 256 Mb Sticks of PC2700 I think DDR-333.
    Recently I bought 2x 512 sticks of Kingston Kingmax DDR-400 (MPXC22D-38KT3R)
It wont boot at all with them in it, the monitor doesn’t even get a signal.
Ive read the manual countless times and can’t find anything saying its incompatible.
I Have Tried using both sticks by them selves with no difference.
The ram is in slot 1 (I have tried all three just in case I was doing something wrong
I Have tried the Ram in another Computer and it worked great.
The Ram IS on the tested memory list Under Test Reports
If you could help me it would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Zysen,

You may have Bios Timing issues. Timing in Bios for that RAM is 2.5,4,4,8 or you can set to auto. VDIMM should be auto and you may have to try using sockets 1 and 3 as mine gave issues in sockets 1 and 2.
You may also have to do a Bios reset.

  • MSI-6585 (648 MAX) instant restart issues questions pls help......

Hi, i figured after months of specualation i would try to figure out what the hell is wrong with my pc.  12months ago a bought a MS-6585 648 MAX mobo and a P4 2.53ghz with 2x Samsung DDR 333 (PC2700) ram.  I play many games on my pc it seems when playing Counter-Strike + PlanetSide results in random instant restarts.  Occasionaly it will just hang the system but mainly instant reset of the system.  My cpu temp ranges from 35 48 max approx.
I've tried switching my ram to different slots and so on refit everything but with no luck.  I just have a very unreliable computer atm.  I've reformated plenty of times but with no joy, the odd thing is its random somtimes my pc will not crash or reset it self so this makes it very difficult to figure out what the hell is going on :S
If you have more questions perhaps i can answer them - and give you more info that i have forgotten.
Here are somethings that might be useful:
    MS-6585 648 MAX mobo
    Pentium 4 (northwood) 2,53ghz 533
    Samsung DDR 333 (PC2700)
Gigabyte Maya II Radeon 9700Pro (running in agp 8x)
    Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum
    Bios settings: (things ive changed)
Turned onboard sound off than auto
    AGP Apeture size  128
I have 32bit transfer mode running for hdds
    I have S.M.A.R.T. enabled
(next week end i will have another 512 ram stick to try just incase its my ram but i have done the intel ram checker and it didn't find any problems)
Any help would be greatly appreciated pls ask any things ive missed and anything else u would need to know.  I really want to sort this out as you can imagine its not very nice having a pc that can randomly crash when u do not expect it.

Overclocking is typically limited by one of 3 factors, assuming you have sufficient power:
    1. Memory won't operate past a certain speed, so you run at a different ratio or buy faster memory.
    2. Temperature, so you need to add non-stock cooling or better case ventilation or water cooling, depending on how far you want to go
    3. CPU - At some point the CPU won't run any faster.
Leave the CPU voltage at Auto. You should only need to raise it if you get into extreme overclocking.
As for the size of the power supply, if you stay with Intel Northwood with an ATX board on your next upgrade, an Enermax 465, Antec 480, or something similar (should cost around $80-100US) would get good choices. If you plan on going with a Prescott on an ATX board, I would look at going to a 550W supply.
Personally, I thing the next 12 months is shaping up to be a real headache in making upgrade decisions in the Intel world. Intel have indicated their next generation of boards will be BTX without AGP support. This looks like an upgrade could mean new case, possibly power supply, video card and possibly ram. I am hoping that companies like MSI will produce a transitional product that allows new processors and chip sets on an atx board. If that doesn't happen I see a lot of people switching to AMD.

  • 648 Max warm boot issue

I have just built my first PC using a 648 Max MB. and I have a problem.
The system boots up fine from cold start, however it fails to start in the following scenarios, it just beeps once and then sits there with a blank screen.
    # Restart form Windows
    # Shutdown from Windows (system powers off OK)
    # Exit from BIOS with or without saving changes
The reset button has no effect
The only way to get the system to boot is to remove power from supply and then restart.
I note other threads of a similar nature!!!! O Dear

  • 648 max + 9700 boot issues - help

      hi
i have a radeon 9700 (rev 1.3) and the 648 max - L and everything is working fine when i am in windows but sometimes when i cold boot i get no screen and it doesnt sound like i am booting up. i do see some hard drive activity but thats about it.  i try reset and sometimes it will work and others not, also when i install a program that needs to reboot sometimes it wont - basicaly the same problem as cold boot.
i have a enermax 430  and so i doubt it is a psu problem, also like i said when i am in xp i have been able to play 3d games and run 3dmark and have yet to have any crashes.
anyone have any solutions or suggestions as to what the problem is and how to fix it?

Ok MSI called me back finally, I explained situation and told him that i have read other people with 0209 boards have had the same issues.
He is cross shipping me a new 648max-L board I asked about it being backordered because of reading this thread and he said it should be shipped today or tomorrow so maybe they got boards in? Or maybe they modified a board that they are going to send me?
He originally wanted me to send mine back and they would send me out a new one but i told him that i have no place to store the processor for that long of a time and i would be without a computer so he took my credit card number and put a hold of 100 dollars on it, once they receive my old one i will be credited.
So all in all, i will be getting a new mobo and rev 1.3 radeon 9700 pro and i should be ready to go.
Here is an email i received from MSI for those of you that are worried about resolving these issues.
    Dear Paul,
I've just confirmed this with my collegue and he said that the first shipments need to be reworked.  Please send the board over to me directly and I'll take care of it for you.  Please include your address and make sure you get a tracking number for the package.

  • 648 max , testing base and extended memory

I dont see the thread i answered to one time that someone spoke of using ddr400 with 648 max or max-L board and they were getting testing base and extended memory error from the LED's.  Well i just got the same error today and my system would not boot i cut the power to the PS. and turned it back on it would start to boot and hang i could barely get to the windows logo sometimes the vid card wouldnt even boot the logo to the screen. This is with an updated mobo that msi sent me that i had just put in , it seemed to run fine at first then this problem started occuring.  The only difference i had in the setup from the previous outdated board was i had the mem in DIMM 3 and not DIMM 1, so i moved the memory back over to DIMM 3 and now the problem is gone. Just something for those of you with the same problem to try.
Oh and i forgot one more issue, i cannot set the dram speed in the bios manually i have ddr 333 it should be 167 mhz so i set it to 4/5  and the system will not boot at all  i end up having to reset cmos.  I called MSI about that and they told me to just have it set to SPD , I said i know that and im fine with leaving it that way but it should let me set it manually if i wanted to and that i wondered if that had anything to do with the random " testing base and extended memory " problem.

    It was probably myt thread...
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/e_service/forum/viewindex.php?threadid=6204&boardid=10&styleid=1
Have done some testing with both DDR333 and DDR400 and my results are in the thread.
Right no I'm using my DDR400 as DDR333, manually set to 167MHz, using DIMM1, and havn't seen any problems. I'll try the DIMM3 to see if I get any changes.
And by the way.. I tried setting my DDR400 manually to 200MHz and it wouldn't boot at all. After a lot of ugly language I finally got it back to the BIOS....after a reset of the CMOS.
Seams like you should use SPD if you want to use the correct freq for your RAM.
Have you tested the new 1.3 BIOS?

  • Fastest Compatable DDR RAM For 648 MAX?

I've been reading about all these problems people have been having concerning RAM/motherboard combinations, and have concluded that my RAM is what is causing my problems (XP/2000 installation difficulties, unrecognizable Gainward GF4 Ti4200 card, boot up problems).  Right now, I have one Kingston Hyper X 512MB DDR434 RAM (which is going out the door soon) installed on my 648 MAX.
I originally thought the video card problem was BIOS related because the only thing recommended by XP was to update the BIOS (said motherboard does not support your video card's features; try updating your BIOS).  I tried that through LiveUpdate, and it messed up somehow during the flash, so I tried to restore the original BIOS, but the system was very unstable after that.  I'm about to send my motherboard back for an exchange.  I just found out by reading some posts here that other people have been having the same problem with a similar RAM/video card setup.
Also, I'm having extreme difficulty installing Win2000.  It installed the first time on a test HDD, but on my new one (WD 80GB 7200RPM ATA100), it wouldn't go in at all.  ;( It went up to the final file copying part (after entering the serial number), and crashed.  It kept doing that, so I gave up and moved on to XP.  XP went in fine the first time, but it wouldn't reinstall after that, even with a reformatted drive.  Other people are having similar problems, and said that once they swapped out their RAM, their problems were gone.
I'm just looking for the fastest compatible 512MB DDR RAM available for the 648.  Thanks.

Heh, funny thing, I was messing around with some BIOS settings, and somehow got my computer to work this afternoon! 8o Reinstalled everything, and was having a good ol time!  :D
Then, and even funnier thing happened.  I went out this evening, and when I came back, the computer wouldn't work anymore!  X(  This thing is driving me nuts.  I'm definitely gonna pick up either the Corsair or Winbond memory ASAP.  Thanks for the replys everyone!
BTW, I've had the hard drive by itself with the jumperless setting from the beginning.  Also, it always wants to be the primary drive, even when it's set to slave and attached at the slave connector on the IDE cable. ?(  I know that isn't a problem right now cause I just have it by itself on the cable.

  • Windows XP and MSI 648 Max

Can anybody give me a good tips, whats wrong when Windows XP installation (BSOD) failed on a computer with MSI 648 Max, I can see that is many in the some siuation as me. But no one of the solutions looks like i good one. Is it somebode that have find out the problem, or?

Its a good idea, but the RAM that I use is the same thats worked fine in the computer earlier. Its DDR DIMM 3100 TwinMOS, and thats a good stuff if I know it right?.
I have tried to take out the harddisk and placed it in another computer, and installed Windows XP. After that I placed the harddisk in the computer with the MSI motherboard, and I get I/O error and it couldnt red from the harddrive. I think that its the 250 watts powersupply, as the problem. I have looked i BIOS and under PC Healt, and there I could see that the +12 V  and -12 V will only give +/- 11-11,5 V. Now I have purchase I new bigger powersupply, and hope that gonna fix the problem.

  • Help! sis648 max-L+DDR 400 =Problems???

    Hi there,
have recently bought sis648 max-L and still hope I will bring this mobo to work!!!
I mainly use my computer for games. But had always freezing problems during games. It was either quiting the game abruptly to fall back to the desktop or simply ffreezing the screen and then I had to reboot.
I tried all I know to stabilize my system in changing bios settings, tried out directx 8.1 and 9.0, checked the ram, flashed the bios from version 1.2 to 1.3, tried to play with minimal video settings in each tested game (morrowind, hitman2) and installed all latest drivers I could find.
The only thing that improved the stability was to diseable the "spread spectrum" setting in bios.
Has someone an good advice what next I could try? ?(
Could it be the ram or the video card?
I would like to avoid buying new DDR or a new mobo... :]
    Thanks

    Hi everybody,
    thanks for helping me.
I changed the voltage of my ram from 2.6 to 2.5v and that improved the stability a lot.  :D
But I still got some freezings during games (but less often) and I had to run under "safe" DRAM timing settings... :(
To get a perfectly stable system, I had to "underclock" my DDR400 to DDR333. ;(
At least, I was able then to run my system under "ultra" DRAM timing settings.
What do you think, would I get better results with safe settings+DDR400 or ultra settings+DDR333 in games ?(
