648F Neo and Geforce FX 5200

Hi
Bought a new motherboard and cpu for my better half (648F Neo + celeron 2.4)
We tried to put in my old gfx card (MSI geforce FX5200) but the system keeps "freezing" as soon as we start any programs that demand just the smallest part og the gfx card the whole system stalls (cant move mouse ect). We have now put in at cheap Radeon card in the maschine (Radeon 9200SE) and weirdly enough it runs without any problems at all.
Could be really nice if we could get the FX 5200 card to work instead its alot easier to setup than the Radeon.
Can anyone help me here?
The psu is a brand new Codegen 300W and the ram is Kingston value.
//Mostly

Assuming that the FX5200 is healthy, I would have started with at new PSU
(Q-Tec and Codegan have a bad reputation with low amp on every line ).
A new PSU with your setup should at least be around 3,3v-25amp / 5v-30amp
and 12v- 17amp to be sure that not the source for other problems ( not only the VGA problem )
If you still want to try with your 300w codegan, then try som older or newer VGA driver and see if that make some differans.

and raise the mem.voltage in bios to 2.7v while you´re at it !!

  • Dell Widescreen Displays and GeForce FX 5200

    Hi everyone,
I have a PowerMac G5 1.6 GHz with the original GeForce 5200 that came in it.
I'm shopping around for a replacement monitor and am considering Dell's 20.1" wide model (2005FPW).
Does anybody have any experience with this combination? I see that some have had problems with the DVI connector on the Dell displays. I also can't find anything that assures me that my video card is capable of displaying at the Dell's native 1680x1050 resolution.
Any help or other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to avoid the high price of the Apple displays.
    PowerMac G5 1.6 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

It's with some comfort that others have the same problem I do, getting my Dell 2005fpw to interface with my GeForce FX 5200 on my PowerPC G5,running OS 10.3.9. I've seen elsewhere (can't remember where) Mac users raving about their Dell monitors. They know something I don't, I guess, and that's why I'm in this discussion.
I wonder how users of the Apple Cinema 20" are able to interface with the GeForce 5200, when the Cinema requires the same 1680x1050 resolution as the Dell. I've accessed the nVIDIA site to download an update, but no luck. Think I'll go back in & look at the resolutions available on the GeForce 5200.

  • 20" Apple Cinema LCD Display and GeForce FX 5200

    Hi,
My video card is GeForce FX 5200. I want to upgrade my monitor (finally!) to 20" Cinema Display. Do I need to upgrade my video/graphic card too? If so, what would be your recommendations?
    Thanks!

    Hi-
The GeForce FX 5200 will support the 20" Cinema Display.
If you want to upgrade the 8x AGP graphics in your G5 (what model G5?), the ATI Radeon 9600 PC & Mac version would be a good upgrade from the 5200:

  • G5 GeForce FX 5200 graphics and third party monitor

I need to buy a new monitor on which I can change manual settings, to work with a G5 1.6GHz using a GeForce FX 5200 card.
Unfortunately the new Mac displays (24") only use a mini display port. And the 20" cinema displays are no longer sold.
I have seen a Dell Ultrasharp 2209WA 22" with VGA and DVI-D ports. It's 1680 x 1050 resolution. Any ideas on compatibility with the graphics card? Will the DVI port on the G5 work with it? I would prefer to use the DVI rather then the VGA port.
    Thanks.
    kevin

Hi Japamac; thanks for your reply.
I was referring to being able to change, using physical controls on the monitor itself, the Brightness, contrast, colour temp.
I had read elsewhere (somewhere in this support section, I think), that using the manual controls had become a problem when connected to this card/G5.
We currently have an old ADC connected 17" monitor, on which there are no manual controls of that sort. (The purpose of making these manual settings is to use in conjunction with a Spyder2Pro for colour calibration).

  • GeForce FX 5200 and Dell 20" 2005FPW - not recognized

    Hello,
I just got a dell monitor figuring that my computer could support it as it's the same as the apple display. It works with my powerbook - recognized by name, but that's an ati card. With the G5, it works in the VGA, but not at the correct resolution. it won't go to 1600 and there is no 1620 X 1050.
When the dvi cable is connected, the self test dissapears, but the monitor just goes to sleep.
I have the 64mb card....maximum res is 1900+. What's the deal? PC users can force the resolution with a utility. Am I stuck buying a new card for my machine??
    thanks for any help.

    Sam,
Don't waste your money. Your GeForce FX 5200 will run your Dell. In fact, I'm writing to you with my Dell 2005FPW monitor, running on my GeForce FX 5200. In this discussion group, I saw a suggestion to zap (reset) the PRAM. It worked for me.
Using the monitor that does work, zap your PRAM. When you zap your PRAM, as the G5 instruction manual says, release the 4 keys after the second chime. Then, you must go in and reselect, thru System Preferences, your Mac HD as the boot-up drive. Your manual says all this. ShutDown.
After I did all that, I reconnected my Dell, started up, & VOILA! Not only that, but when I went into System Preferences->Displays, I saw the Dell's 1680x1050 resolution as the selected resolution, so the GeForce seems to configure itself to anticipated device resolutions.
However, reading other threads in this group in trying to solve my problem, I saw that zapping PRAM doesn't always work. If it doesn't work for you, I suggest you go thru all the threads that seem to apply to your problem, because other considerations (not necessarily solutions) are offered.

  • GeForce FX 5200 and Windows ME

I have a machine that dual boots into Windows ME.  I just installed an MSI GeForce FX 5200 graphics card and an MSI NForce2 board.  I have installed the NForce 2.03 drivers, but when I install the GeForce 43.45 or 44.03 Windows ME drivers, the system either shuts down automatically at the beginning of the Windows startup, or it just hangs.  I have done everything I can think of regarding the IRQs, etc.  Windows ME works OK when the GeForce drivers are uninstalled - it boots up, but only 8bit graphics.  Windows XP and Red Hat Linux 9 work fine on this same machine.  Are there problems with the newer GeForce drivers for Windows ME??  Any help would be appreciated. ?(  ?(

It's not the sharing that's causing your problems guys, go back to 41.09 Nvidia drivers and it should work fine. There are issues with the newer drivers that I've seen out there...give it a try and let us know how it works.
Make sure to clean ALL old drivers off of your system first so that you aren't mixing them. Use Drivecleaner or something similar to clean them off or do it manually, then reinstall the new drivers. I think gfilliti has posted a link to Drivecleaner somewhere here in the forum so do a search for it.
    Cheers!! 8)

  • K8N NEO PE MS-7030 and Geforce 6800 Vanilla

    I am on the way to buy a new graphic card , and I have 2 choices : 1- XFX 6600GT AGP 8x 128MB 500/100 and 2-XFX 6800 AGP 8X 128MB 325/700, the difference between both about 25$ for the 6800
I prefer the 6800 but I read bad stories with nforce 3 mobos, so it is safe to go with the 6600GT, I know there is no much difference between 6600GT and 6800 but in 6800 you can unlock the extra pipelines and the vertex shader
I read a lot of topics about freezing and craches with ms7030 and 6800 series ??
any one is using K8N NEO PE MS-7030 and Geforce 6600 Vanilla without problems ??
is the problem still or it has been solved ??
SO what is your recommendation ?
    Thanks

Go for the 6800, the problems with the nf3 chipset affect all series 6 cards including the 6600GT. The solution is simple - just disable fast writes in the BIOS.
The 6800 is a native AGP card but the 6600GT is a PCIe card with a HSI chip to convert it to AGP and it gets very hot.  Also you may get lucky with the pipes and it should overclock a bit.  If you stretch a bit further get the 6800GT with 256Mb and it OC's to Ultra speeds.
Too right... In addition disabling fastwrites and the dreaded ATI/NV speedup option, make sure that the 2D/3D accel speeds are at the same settings, if not the card tends to "freak out".
I have a BFG6800 OC ("vanilla" 6800 GPU/slight "factory OC") and I got lucky & was able to unlock the hidden hardware. I had an early 6800 GPU though & I think that Nvidia "closed the door" on that mod with the later builds. Something to keep in mind.
Regardless, with the unlocked hardware I was able to get near (close, but not quite) stock GT speeds but the benchmark score didn't really translate to the real world. The big limitation of the 6800 is the puny 128 mb of RAM. If I had it to do over again, I'd saved my pennies & got a GT (w/256mb of RAM), I'd be a lot happier with it. It's not that the 6800 is bad, but the GT is a LOT better.
The good thing is that the 6800 GT prices are starting to come down a bunch since the 7800's came out. If you shop around, you should be able to find a great deal on one. I'm about to go looking myself, if I come across a killer deal, I'll post back.
Edit: I've done a quick search & the chances of just finding an AGP 6800GT don't look too good. I've checked 5 vendors so far and they're either out of stock or discontinued I may have waited a bit too long....
But vanilla 6800's can be found for about $200.

  • MSI 648F NEO SiS AGP trouble/wont detect nvidia FX5200

    Hi!
I recently did an emergency build using the 648F Neo (my old syntax board died).  Everything went well, but when I went online I noticed my graphics were very choppy.  I checked my Display settings and noticed that my nvidia fx5200 wasn't even being recognized!
I went to the Device Manager, and saw that the 5200 wasnt listed their, either.  However, I did notice that under "System Devices" there was a listing for "SiS Accelerated Graphics Port", and this listing had the yellow-dot-with-an-exclamation-point warning attached to it.  However, when I right clicked on it, and checked the driver, it listed the driver as "5.1.2600.2180" , with a driver date of "12/9/2004".  I used the driver off the Cd, and off the MSI website, but with no different result.
The device manager also provides me with this info: "This device cannot start. (Code 10)".
When I try to download the nvidia driver, it informs that it could not detect any drivers that are compatible with my current hardware.
    Any suggestions?

    Here's where we stand:
I got rid of of the drivers i had installed, both AGP and Nvidia.
I started in safe mode, and reinstalled SiS AGP driver ver. 1.21
I then tried to install the nivida drivers.
Same result: "could not find drivers compatible with hardware" etc.,
My device driver screen shows that the Sis Accelerated Graphics Port fails to start ANYTIME I have 1.21 loaded up.  Should I try an older version?  Even if i dont try to install the nvidia drivers, I still get the exclamation point warning that the SiS AGP failed to start.

  • MSI 648F Neo with ASUS N7600GS video

    Hi!
When my ABIT KD7 motherboard died, I changed to a MSI 648F Neo motherboard. The problem is that the MSI works fine with a GeForce FX5200 video card, but won't even boot with a N7600GS.
My ABIT KD7 worked fine with both of those cards.
    MSI motherboard supports AGP8x, N7600GS is AGP8x.
MSI chipset is SiS 648FX - which is a universal 1.5V AGP 3.0.
    N7600 - Universal 1.5V AGP 3.0 Card.
Does anyone know what is the problem? Maybe I need to update something or the 648F isn't compatible with a N7600GS?

Did it. Same situation, only when I changed it back to my older video card the first time I turned on the PC it started beeping like crazy and I nearly shat my pants  But I reinserted it and everything is back to normal.
I think this is just one of those rare situations where the 2 compatible things aren't compatible.

  • G5 Second Display using the GeForce FX 5200 - Non-Standard

    I have a Dual 1.8 GHz PowerPC G5 Macintosh.

    x x x x x x x x x x -----

I have had trouble finding an adapter to use to convert this to VGA (which is what I meed to connect my second monitor). I've searched the Apple Store online to no avail, as well as Google. Perhaps I've had no luck because I don't know the name of this part.
    Any help is much appreciated!

  • PowerMac G5 DP 1.8GHz/GeForce FX 5200 - DELL 2407WFP 24" LCD compatibility?

    Hi all,
I am running Mac OS 10.3.9 (up-to-date) and would like to ask if there's anyone using and/or knowing about the following compatibility:
PowerMac G5 dual processor 1.8GHz with NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 (64MB VRAM)
    and
DELL UltraSharp 2407WFP 24-inch Widescreen Flat panel LCD Monitor
I have the PDF spec sheet for this DELL monitor, but unfortunately couldn't find accurate info about this particular and possible scenario.
    Related info:
Size (Viewable Image Screen): 24 inches (24-inch viewable image size)
    Optimal Resolution: 1920 x 1200 at 60Hz
Connector Type: Analog, DVI-D (Digital) with HDCP
Other Connectors/Features: S-Video, Composite, Component, Integrated 9-in-2 media card reader/slots, Universal Serial Bus (USB) 2.0 Ports, Kensington security port
Hope that someone can help. I am currently testing a DELL UltraSharp 2007WFP 20-inch Widescreen Flat Panel LCD Monitor and it works flawlessly, but I am interested in paying a little bit more and buy the 24".
    Thank you all in advance,

    Mike: thanks for posting!
As far as I understand, DELL LCD monitors and Apple PowerMac computers (with their standard 64MB graphic cards) don't have any compatibility issues, though none of the forums/threads/movies you point are 2407WFP related.
Meanwhile, I have emailed DELL and trusting their reply, they assure all of their current line LCD monitors use the latest revision, probably REV A03, as described in this recent Apple discussion:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3541462&#3541462
I will definitely give the DELL UltraSharp 2407WFP 24-inch Widescreen Flat panel LCD Monitor a try and will return to this thread with some conclusive feedback.
Again, thank you for taking your time reading/guiding me.

  • MS-6330 Lite K7T Pro2 Ver:1 with GeForce FX 5200, does it works?!

    Hello...
I have one MS-6330 Lite K7T Pro2 Ver:1 and it Support AGP 2.0 1x/2x/4x, and I want to buy a GeForce FX 5200 that works for AGP 8x...
Question, this GeForce FX5200 will work with my MotherBoard (that supports AGP 2.0 1x/2x/4x) ?!?!
I think that´s no problem, and i´ll not have ALL the features that the board offers, but will work... do you guys know about?!

    extracted from http://www.answers.com/topic/accelerated-graphics-port
    Quote
AGP cards are backward and forward compatible within limits. 1.5 V-only keyed cards will not go into 3.3 V slots and vice versa, though "Universal" slots exist which accept either type of card. AGP Pro cards (rarely used) will not fit into standard slots, but standard AGP cards will work in a Pro slot. Some newer cards like nVidia's GeForce 6-series or ATI's X800-series only have keys for 1.5 V to prevent them from installing in older mainboards without 1.5 V support. The graphic cores can only handle 0.8 V for AGP8x and 1.5 V for AGP4x and will be damaged by 3.3 V slots. Some of the last modern cards with 3.3 V support were the nVIDIA GeForce FX5000-series and the ATI Radeon 9500/9700/9800(R350) (but not 9600/9800(R360)).
to answer your question, that card will work in your board
