64gb Playbook charged by 12v usb?

Hello again
Please answer only if you have achieved to get a 64gb Playbook charged by 12v usb?
I have a 64gb Playbook running 2.1.0.1088. I am trying to use navigation programmes on the move but the playbook discharges in use and cannot accept any input from 12v via usb.
I have tried
Direct connection from 12v with usb. The unit was fro 9600 and playbook. Did not charge or read.
12v connectors with usb slots 1.8a and 2.1a and even 3.1a. All use a usb cable. No charge or read.
12v 3.1 connection, charge only usb adaptor and usb to playbook. No charge or read
The usb cables read when connected to the laptop, but there is no charge.
I have had a number of answers to my other thread, but all are for none 64g playbooks.
If you have succeeded in using a 64gb playbook to a 12v in-car socket. Please let me know which unit you have used and where I may purchase. I am in the UK, so please do not be offended my fellow users around the world if I ask for only UK answers.

Now the only concern I have is the idea of having a playbook loose in a car with the USB cable attached is in my opinion sking for the socket to get damaged in use. It's not the world's most robust design.
When I use Playbook for chat to the family I have it either on the charging dock, on in a wooden frame I made with the cable anchored to the frams so it cant get snagged.
There is still the possibility that it's too late for Ross's Playbook and the socket may be damaged already.
Well it sounds like you're now looking for a car mount holder. Checking out eBay (North America) there are lots which vary by price and most likely quality: http://www.ebay.ca/sch/i.html?_nkw=playbook+car+holder
For something like a car holder, I would go to a store and try them in person if possible and then see if you can find that same version cheaper online. I have bought cheap plastic holders before and they are junk and break easily. Personally, I'm trying to hunt down a metal one. I might just end up making one to be honest and that way you can control quality. Since we get some really cold temperatures here in Canada come wintertime, I've been looking to mate various pieces together to create a robust design. Here is a 7" metal stand that can come apart and serve as the backing of the mount. http://www.iphonexcases.com/hot-portable-ultra-tablet-stand-for-7-inch-e-reader-tablet-pcs-galaxy-ta... That stand is $13.70 and if you marry it to mounts like this:
http://www.universalcarmountholder.com/photo/pl401630-flexible_adjusted_apple_ipad_2_tablet_pc_mount... or a gooseneck one like this: http://upload.ecvv.com/upload/Product/20124/China_55_5cm_gooseneck_Flexible_Steel_Seat_Bolt_Mount_Fl...
This looks promising too: http://www.ebay.com/itm/EASY-TO-INSTALL-Asus-eee-pad-Transformer-Slate-Tablet-Car-Floor-Seat-Bolt-Mo...
Then you're getting something robust that will last and can be used elsewhere.
Remember,  with a decent car mount, the microUSB cable should be able to connect and not affect mount points...that's why I suggest trying them in person before buying or else you run the risk of the mounts covering the ports.

  • Car charger, 12v- USB.

First of, no i dont want nokia original charger, i _really_ hate the twisted cord.
I have tried several different 12v -> USB-adapters and the micro-USB charging/data cable, but none of them works.
I have even tried opening the original car charger (with micro USB), and changed the twisted cord to a straight, normal, micro-USB one, with no luck.
The last adapter i tried is specced for 1A(deltaco), which should be more than sufficient.
This is _REALLY_ starting to **bleep** me off, what is up with this? Can anyone help me?

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
The iPod Nano needs to exchange data prior to charging so a Nano aware charger must be used.
USB should has standard power values (I thought it was 5volts so 5.7 volts sounds right for charging. Where did you see the 3.7v figure?)
Anyhow the bottom line is that you need a specific charger. (Apparently this is becoming increasingly common. The Nano inspired and catchily titled Samsung ZP-25 also needs a data exchange (or specific charger).

  • 64GB Playbook died, just out of warranty period :(

    Hi,
I have a 64GB playbook that seems to have software issues. The Playbook is out of warranty as it was purchased on May 15th of 2011.
The problem I have having is this...
It won't turn on if I press power.
If I attached the supplied charger or rapid charger, the red led comes on and then it shows a battery with a lightning bolt dimly. Then it brightened. The battery with the lightning bolt disappears and the LED becomes a solid green. After a little while the green LED disappears and the Playbook Logo appears (with a very dimly lit green LED). It stays like this for hours and hours. I left it for 8+ hours and it's still stuck on the Playbook Logo.
If I attach it to the computer via USB, the Playbook turns on with a red led followed by 5 Green/yellow LED blinks and turns off.
Desktop manager will recognize the Playbook as 'Playbook(0)'. I cannot update the Playbook because Desktop manager will not recognize it. I tried DM version 6 and the newest 7.
I have tried stack charging of 2 min. plugged in and 2 min. off plug for about 50 cycles with no result.
I have also tried the reset of Power+Up Vol+Down Vol at various points with no success.
I believe it could be a software issue that the Playbook will not boot up since it gets stuck on the Playbook Logo screen.
Is there anything you could do for me?
I tried emailing [email protected] but I got an automated response back saying they are unable to process my request.
    I really appreciate the help.

I think your severely depleted your battery
If the battery level is critically low, the BlackBerry PlayBook may remain on the boot screen until sufficient charge has been reached to fully boot the BlackBerry PlayBook
I would connect the charger and get to above point again to charge it for a few hours and then do the 3 button reset after

  • Nokia 6700 - Charge from Micro USB?

    Hi,
The 6700 manual confirms that the phone can be charged from both microUSB and the standard mini charge but what it doesn't say is that the only way to charge using the microUSB port is to connect the phone to a PC or Laptop. If you plug the USB cable into any other type of USB charge device, including USB charge adapters (such as the iPhone charger) or a standard car 12v socket > 5v USB adapter the phone issues an error confirming charge method is not accepted.
I thought the whole point of phone companies agreeing to the new microUSB standard was to permit charging using any USB port? It seems Nokia have limited the charge capabilities of this phone and it is a right pain.
Come on Nokia, please fix this with the next firmware update !!

This is odd, because Nokia lists their AC-10 microUSB mains charger as compatible. I had thought the device rejects any current above the trickle charge from a standard PC USB cord, but if it works with the Nokia microUSB charger, it should accept higher currents (1200mAH). In which case the Nokia charger must be "talking" to the phone over USB to give it approval.
On the other hand, the manual doesn't mention support for USB mains chargers at all, so maybe including the AC-10 on the peripherals list is a goof.
Hopefully this doesn't extend to Nokia's other USB-charging phones, I have plenty of generic USB chargers around.
Help I'm trapped in a sig factory.

  • Code 31 Error / Playbook not connecting via USB

    My Setup:
    Windows 8 Pro x64
    AMD FX 3.1Ghz
I'm trying to connect my 64gb Playbook running OS version 2.1.0.1526 to my computer via USB.
So, I've tried atleast 3 different things from various other posts.
    - Updating drivers  ( I bought the driverupdate.net package last night )
    - Allowing ports 80 and 443 then again by disabling 80 and 443
    - Uninstalling device manager / reinstalling / rebooting / restarting the PB
    - Turned off wireless connections on the PB
The worst part is, is that the Desktop Manager software sees that the PB is connected to the computer. It shows up with my PIN # etc. but it still says Connect the device. Also the Playbook itself says that it is connected to the computer. So frusterating!!!
I click connect the device and in about 10 seconds the program goes into (Not Responding) and 10 seconds after that I get the error - "Blackberry desktop software can't communicate with the connected device"
I have had the PB connect wirelessly with my computer but the file transfer speeds are terrible and inconsistent. Thank you for taking the time to read this and hopefully lend any information or tips.
    Cheers

  • How to Replace Playbook Charger?

    Dear Admin,
I had brought Blackberry Playbook 16 Gb 3.5 months ago i.e. on 25 May 2012 from flipkart. From Past few days playbook charger won't work properly, I also tried to charge it via USB cable to connect it with my PC, it shows that your pc is connected with playbook but it won't charge the playbook. I am afraid to use another charger with same slot as mention in blackberry guidelines it cause serious issue for your playbook.
I had also call direct support no. 0008001007985 for further assistance. They said to register your playbook from http://in.blackberry.com/support/playbook-support/contact.jsp but when I entered the S/N it shows the following megs:
"Unfortunately, your BlackBerry® PlayBook™ tablet does not qualify for Complimentary Support. You can, however, get assistance using incident based support from Research In Motion."
In that case what are ways to replace my charger which I feel is malfunctioned. Or anyother way to charge my playbook. Playbook is still under 1 year warranty period.
Should I go directly to Service center in Gurgoan or Delhi?
    Thanks
    Amit Pandey

Did you let it completely discharge and then try to charge it? The PlayBook will not charge even on a working charger when completely discharged. You have to stack charge it to get it back. If the battery is too far discharged it may not come back at all.
Some have had to disassemble the device in order to charge the battery enough for the charger to work. Some searching of the Internet and this forum will bring lots of threads on how to revive your Playbook.

  • Bought 64gb playbook from amazon and not sure if its new or refurbished.

Bought 64gb playbook from amazon for my daughter and not sure if its new or refurbished.  Tablet has small fine scratches on the back, hair stuck in the casing, no screen protector, brown adaptor box has had label of some kind removed, adapter inside is loosely bound.   Amazon supplier advises me to return but also that it isn't supplied with a screen protector or cover and adapter is new and packaged in a brown box.  Not sure whether to accept a replacement or just get a refund.  A bit concerned that this is a refurbished item being supplied as new.

Definately sounds like it's not a new item, this isn't how they come packaged.

  • My ipad won't charge with the usb cable

I took my Ipad on vacation with only my usb cable, expecting to charge off another computer. No charge! Since then I have tried several other cables, no luck. Is my Ipad problematic?

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • My Iphone 3gS is not being recognized in Itunes on my laptop. It is charging so the USB port is working properly. My wifes Iphone IS being recognized by the same laptop. My Iphone IS being recognized by the desktop computer and another laptop

My Iphone is not being recognized in Itunes on my laptop. It is charging, so the USB port is working. My Iphone does work on another Laptop in the house and My wifes Iphone is being recognized on the same laptop that mine is not. Any suggestions?

The key bit of information here is that one iPhone works on the computer in question and another does not. So it is unlikely that AMDS is not running or there is a driver problem; if either of these was the problem neither phone would be recognized in iTunes.
Unfortunately, I don't have an answer either. Except to verify that both iPhones (the one that works and the one that doesn't) use the same cable and the same USB port.
Also, are the two iPhones the same model and same iOS version?

  • Ipod doesn't charge except with usb

My 30 gig video only charges through the usb cable via computer. It doesn't charge with older firewire adapter, and I just bought an ez-trip car charger/fm modulator and it doesn't charge either. Any ideas?

Hmmm. I'm able to charge my iPod video or nano using a firewire cable from my Power Mac. The iPod reports that synching is not supported via Firewire but it charges.

You do not use a WEP password but wpa/wpa2 on router and equipment.
All equipment connects to WiFi, but for your iPad.
Even with all other equipment WiFi off, you cannot connect your iPad.
Your iPad connects to other WiFi nets correctly.
All resets etc done on iPad and Router.
Still I am not sure it is your router for sure, frustrating...
I want to test 2 other things:
    1. in your iPad, set everything OFF in Settings/Cellular, turn off/then/on your WiFi, and see whether it will still not connect...
    2. If that does not do it: disconnect the router as well as the modem from the power, for 15 seconds, then reconnect the modem, let it fully start, then reconnect the routet let it fully start, turn of your WiFi in iPad, then on, and see whether it will connect.

  • Using AC adapter to charge is better than charge it with  USB cable?

I've been reading this on http://www.ipodbatteryfaq.com/
"When possible, always use the AC adapter (or vehicle adapter) for extended charging, not a FireWire cable attached to a computer."
The artical does not explain why, but I'm curious about it.
So, does charging iPod with USB cable really damage the battery?
Is it always better to charge iPod with AC adapter?
Any answer will be appreciated, thanks in advance anyway

Even if you use an a/c adaptor you still need the usb cable to connect it to the iPod. The very same cable you use to connect to the computer.
A firewire cable is something completely different, and although the 5th gen iPod will charge via a firewire cable they are not supplied with the iPod (because the iPod won't accept data transfer via firewire).
When reading about the iPod battery, you should remember that there is an awful lot of nonsense said. I've never found any difference whatsoever either charging via a mains adaptor or via a computer.

  • Help needed: blackberry keeps resetting or won't turn on after charging, especially via USB

This is a bit of an odd one and I'd appreciate any help that others can give me.
I've had my blackberry 8900 for about a year and a half now.
Whenever I charge my handset from an empty battery (e.g. this problem isn't a problem when I charge it if there's still some charge left) - either from the main power charger or via USB, I experience problems.
Whenever it's fully charged I unplug the charger and normally at this point it cuts out completely. The screen goes black and cuts out - it doesn't even go through the normal switch-off process. From then, it won't turn on for around 3 - 4 minutes (the red light occasionally appears on the top, although it's fully charged).
When it does turn on, it goes through a soft reset.
This is more of a problem when I charge it via USB but equally affects charging it from the mains as well.
    Any ideas?

It's fixable. First, charge it for several hours and then WITH the
charger still connected, remove the battery a minute and replace, and
    reboot.
If that does not do it, and it continues in the reboot loop
    1)
Make sure you have Blackberry Desktop Manager installed.
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/
    2)
On your PC, go to Start > Run and copy and paste the following line
exactly (meaning with the quotation marks):
    "c:\program
    files\common files\research in motion\apploader\loader.exe" /nojvm
    3)
The Application Loader Wizard will appear -- click "Next."
    4) In
the "Connection:" drop-down menu, you should see "USB-PIN: UNKNOWN".
    Click the "Next" button.
    5) You should then see a list of
applications ready to be installed for your Blackberry. Hit Next and
Finish and you are well on your way to getting your Blackberry back to
life. Just don't disconnect anything and let the lengthy process finish
    completely.
NOTE: If you do not see a list of applications
mentioned in step 5 and instead see the message "The Blackberry Desktop
Software does not have Blackberry Device Software for the device that
you have connected to the computer. Contact your wireless service
provider or system administrator," then you must download Blackberry's
Operating System for your carrier and device.
    http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/BlackBerry_Operating_System_Downloads
    Just
select the appropriate carrier and network type, select your Blackberry
model from the list and download the latest version. Install this
download and follow the above steps again and you should be on the right
    path.
