650 MB CDs show all folders empty, 700 MB CDs OK. Fix?

OS 10.4.9 is installed on main partition and on a "backup" partition. All discs read fine if booted from "backup" partition so my 2 optical drives are OK. When booted into main partition OS, all discs read fine except 650 MB CD. I've looked at 650 MB CDRs and CDRWs from 8 manufacturers. All open to show only the top level documents and folders (which say "No Items" underneath each icon). I've checked the Finder Preferences and System Preferences for CDs and DVDs and see nothing wrong. What can I try next to read 650 MB CDs in my main partition?

Elsewhere in these Discussions I saw deleting a plist file suggested to solve a different Finder problem. So I Trashed:
<myhome>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
A fresh, new one was automatically created when I rebooted and my problem was gone. I have no trouble reading any discs anywhere now. Maybe this will help someone solve a Finder problem even if not the same as mine. Yippee!

  • Apple + k (Go to Folder ) did not show all folders

    hello everyone
I tried to find some posts about the problem, but I could not find anything.
I created accounts in tree order. It means for example:
School name: MK (has many class room)
Class room name: 1mka ( has many users)
    Username: 1mka1, 1mka2......
    1) The first problem
When I login with 1mka1 on eMac machines, the login is successefull. It shows Desktop, Root, Documents, Applications, Music, Movie on left of harddrives
When I user Apple + k to connect to 1mka1´s folder and then click on "1mka1" , so it displays only "Site" and "Library" folders.
    WHY ??
If I user Apple + k to connect to 1mka1´s folder ---> click on "1mka" and then "1mka1", so it displays all folder such as Dekstop, Applications, Documents, Library, Music, Movie, Site
    WHY??
    2) The second problem
When I login with 1mka1 on PC machines, the login is successefull. But the virtual share point of 1mka1´home directory displays only "Site" and "Library"
WHY didn´t it display Desktop, Library, Applications, Documents, Music, Movie Site???
When I user Start-->Run-->type in "\\servername" --> click on "1mka" and then "1mka1", so it displays all folders.
I think that the first and the second problem are related. What I did wrong here. Please help. Thanks

  • How to make "Show All" folders the default in Finder

I recently upgraded to Mountain Lion and I'm having a lot of problems customizing my Finder folders to my liking. I love the new "Arrange By..." function, but the only thing that's bothering me is having to manually click "Show All" for my folders and files every time. Is there any way of making this the default setting?
If not, is there an alternative way for keeping my folders locked in a set order? For example if I have the a main folder and within it are the subfolders "Art" "Music" "Photos" "Misc" can I have them so they always show up in that order and won't rearrange themselves everytime I add new files into the folder?
I hope that question makes sense.
I am referring to that Show All button just to be clear

  • Windows Explorer not showing all folders in mapped dfs drive

I have a strange problem, a users does not see all of the folders in a mapped dfs drive. The drive has over 2000 folders but in explorer it only shows 400. If I open a command prompt I can cd to the drive and dir lists all folders. the explorer behavior
is also the same if I browse to the folder via UNC path.
    Thanks

    Hi jerry.v,
    What is your current situation?
When the client connects to DFS share and Access-Based Enumeration is enabled on these share folders at the same time, then Windows Explorer will not display files or
folders that a user does not have right to access.
The other concern is is the permission settings and the Hidden files and folder.
More information, please check the blog shared by Jay.ke:

  • Shared workbooks shows all folders to users

    Hi
We are in Discoverer 10.1.2.1. Here is my question.
I have user called disco, who is the owner of all standard reports. All these reports have been built from different star schemas and they are shared with set of users.
When the user creates the adhoc report with their own user id, and when they select the fact folder in discoverer plus, it automatically shows only the joined dimension tables and its very nice for user experience. But, the same functionality is not there, when user does "save as" of the existing shared reports into their area. When the users saves the report and try to edit the report, it shows all the folders irrespective of the joins. Is there any settings we need to do, to accomplish similar result as new workbook. Please let me know if you have any suggestions.
    I appreciate your suggestions
    Thanks
    Balaji

If all your folders are in one business area then all folders will be visible to all users at all times.
The visibility of folders is determined by which Business area a user has access to utilize, not by the security in a workbook.

  • Trying to upgrade 3.6.28 to 27, imported bookmarks, Library view shows all folders in proper sequence, but 99% are not in Toolbar view at all.

Jscher and Cor-el tried to help me a few years back w/o success.
Trying again to upgrade from 3.6 (XP) to 27 (Win7).
Exported from 3.6 as HTML file (also have json), and imported into 27.
Last time, I never 'found' most of my bookmarks in FF 27. Especially not the folders.
This time, I tried Library View and it appears everything is there, folders, subs, in sequence etc.
BUT ... unlike in 3.6.28, I can still only see the contents of one folder in the right pane at a time.
    I can't work like that.
SO ... maybe, I can access ALL my bookmarks some other way (not via Library)? Via a toolbar perhaps?
But for some reason, the collection in the toolbar doesn't remotely resemble the organized collection I see in the Library. Virtually no folders, and in chaotic order. Many missing it appears. If the contents from the Library were mirrored in the Toolbar (using AIOS), I'd be good to go. Is this what I should expect? What more can I try?
    Thanks!!!

The Library can manage all the bookmarks, but you need to open one of the three main folders in the left pane to see the bookmarks in that folder in the right pane.
There are three main Bookmarks folders and bookmarks can only be created in one of those folders and its sub folders.
    * The "Bookmarks Toolbar" folder stores the bookmarks that you see on the Bookmarks Toolbar (Firefox > Options or View > Toolbars).
    * The "Bookmarks Menu" folder stores bookmarks that show in the Bookmarks menu and are created via "Bookmarks > Bookmark This Page" or via "Bookmark This Link" in the right-click context menu.
    * The "Unsorted Bookmarks" folder stores bookmarks that are created by clicking the star at the right end of the location bar.

  • Mac Mail not showing all folders

I am using my @icloud email account and I only see the Inbox and Sent mail folders in Mac Mail. I am not seeing Junk, Trash, Notes, etc.. If I look in Library/Mail/V2/<account> I can see all these folders listed. If I delete an email via Mac Mail I can see it appear on iCloud.com in the "Trash" folder so the mappings are all correct. How can I display them in the Mac mail application?

It could be that the sidebar that shows the additional folders isn't showing at all, so you're only seeing the top bar with a few shortcuts. Does it look like this:
    If it does, do this:
By clicking 'Mailboxes' you'll get the sidebar back. This can also be done by clicking View > Show Sidebar
Let us know how that goes!

  • Firefox only shows a few of the bookmarks folders I made and I can't access those not shown, how can I make it show all folders?

I use StumbleUpon and created many folders for different categories of Bookmarks. When I try to bookmark a new site, the bookmarks menu only shows about four or five of the folders. Is there some way to show the others? I would like to see a list of ALL the folders when I try to make a new bookmark, and I can't find anything on your Help Pages about this issue.

  • Xserve Raid Not Showing all Drives Empty - No Green Lights on Xserve Raid Drives

I have an Xserve Raid.  I recently set it up with my Xserve server with fiber cables and now when the Xserve Raid system boots and starts all the drives show as empty in the Raid monitor.  Not sure if I have something configured wrong and I think I shut it down incorrectly before I got it hooked up right.  When I first got it I was able to see the lights on all the drives but now it boots but no drives show up at all.  I have fiber cables to the host Xserve machine and the Xserve Raid plugged into the network with only 1x  ethernet cables (not 2 if that makes a difference).  When I try to manage the Xserve Raid all drives show as empty even though all the 500GB drives are plugged in.  Not seeing any green lights when the Xserve raid boots indicates something is up.  I reset the controller cards to stock with the paper clip to factory settings.  Does anyone have any ideas on what to try.  Anyone have this issue?  I haven't found any discussions except one that had a single side of drives go down because of a bad controller card.  My Xserve Raid shows no drives at all.  Any help is appreciated.

Expansion is a 2 step process: First, you expand the array. Second, you merge the slices. The documentation is clear on step #2, but the GUI doesn't FORCE you to do it. However, it is necessary.
If you did both steps, try rebooting your host and see if it picks up the changed size. It does work... the usual issue though is growing the file system to recognize the additional size. On Linux, I can't help you.

  • Mavericks: Finder LH column not showing all folders, can't store PS files?

Out of the blue, when I opened Finder yesterday, I no longer see my desktop listed in the LH Column... all I see are external hard drives, both USB and NAS.  I have closed everything and restarted my iMac three times and nothing has changed.  I'm hoping its some obscure setting that has somehow been triggered by accident but I am baffled, because I did try looking at preferences to see if someth there is amiss but I'm probably too much of a neophyte to really know for sure.
Another annoying feature of Lion and especially Mavericks is that I seem to be having a lot of trouble opening existing files on my WD MyBookLive NAS data drive, modifying them as needed, and then _trying_ to save those modified files in the same NAS drive.  I've had that drive for at least 2 years and _never_ had a work in progress issue like this with previous versions of OS X.  ANd yes, if I open finder and select the exact file I want to modify, then select "Open in Adobe Photoshop CS4" I can open the file.  But I can't open the file from within PS or save the file to the NAS drive/folder where it belongs.  So unless I figure out a Mavericks fix... I have to copy an entire folder with all sorts of images and logos and text... to an external HDD and work on it there... IOW, Mavericks has rendered my 2TB NAS drive somewhat useless unless you accept redundant storage as the norm.

I forgot to mention i've also made this "make shift" refresh button
    tell application "Finder"
    tell front window
    update every item with necessity
    end tell
    end tell
Copy it, open Script Editor and save it as an executable application in your Utilities folder. Now put shortcuts to it in your Dock or your Sidebar or whereever. When you run it, the frontmost window in the Finder will be refreshed to its most current state from disk.
When I can see all items(when freshly mapped) and I click the app i've made above it removes the same files and folders from view.

  • Finder not working well-show folders empty

    Hi,
for some times now I have problems with finder.
First I thought it was a problem accessing the network but I also have the problem with the local folders!!
After logging to my account, it works well for some times and then suddenly (may be after accessing machine on my network - Synology NAS) finder begin to show all folders as they are empty!!!
The funny thing is that if for instance I do a "file/open" within an app or do an attachment and so access a "windows like finder" it works!!
But if I use the finder ... folders are empty (shown as ...).
The only thing to get everything back is to restart the computer (and many times I have to hard stop the machine as the finder is not working anymore and my mac mini don't want to restart. I keep the desktop background and nothing happened!!
The strange thing is that it seems I don't have the problem on my MacBook Pro!!
The mac mini was a clean install!
    So many problem with Yosemite!!!
    Ragards

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return  three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • UWC doesn't show any folders

    Hello,
Messaging server 7 on solaris 10 X86 machines
Some times UWC stops showing folders and the mails.
While go to manage folders it shows all folders, however clicking on any of the folder, in main window it doesn't show any folder neither any mails.
I haven't found particular action for this problem. It occurs randomly. Logout and login again resolves the problem.
    regards,
    Sumant

No I don't think so. One of the users was saying that I sent a message and when came back to inbox, he faced the problem.A quick search didn't reveal any existing complaints about this behaviour.
Also what browser does this occur in (FF2/FF3/IE6/IE7)?I think users are using IE7. I suggest you log a Sun support request to get the issue investigated further.
    Regards,
    Shane.

  • My bookmarks are all still there, but 'Show all bookmarks' is empty and so is 'Bookmark this page Folder Choose'.

I have installed FF 4.0 on home and office PCs (both Windows XP). Bookmarks are synced between them using FF Sync 1.7. Until a couple of days ago, no problem. But now something weird has happened to the bookmarks on my home PC.
All the bookmarks are there - I can select them normally from the BM toolbar and the BM menu, and they are found by the address bar.
However, I can no longer organise my bookmarks. When I choose 'Show all bookmarks' the All Bookmarks folder appears completely empty. When I add a new bookmark, the Choose folder dialog shows a small, apparently random selection of my bookmark folders, and the Choose drop-down doesn't show any folders at all.
I have tried restoring bookmarks from several days ago and also from the office machine. In both cases restore worked fine, but it still only populates the Bookmark menu and not the Show all/Organise folder.

This looks like a duplicate of https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/835014#answer-201724
Backup of bookmarks, deletion of places.sqlite, and restoration of bookmarks solved it for me.

  • DVDs, CDs showing up as empty, unburned

DVDs and Cds burned by my husband's iMac are showing up as empty and unburned on my MBP (model 3,1).
The disk is seen, but accompanied by a burn icon, and I am offered the option to burn it but told there is no content so burning it will produce an empty disk.
I saw these burned and everything seemed to be normal. The disks were given titles, which showed up on his machine, but on my MBP they are "Untitled".

    Thanks, fane_j.
Discs were burned using just Apple's app, not Toast etc.
I did ascertain using my husband's iMac that the discs were actually burned, by opening a file on one of the disks and then using Command-click on the title bar to see the origin of the file being diplayed. I had thought that perhaps the disc held only the aliases that are initially put on, before burning. Then of course my computer would be unable to display the file.
Since this old 2007 laptop needs a new battery as well as a replacement optical drive, and I am doing a project requiring the dvd drive, we decided to bite the bullet and replace it with a refurbished 2011 model from Apple. Eagerly awaiting that!
Oh, and when I tried burning one I was told there was no room on it; it was not rewritable so all "space" was taken by the inital burn.

  • I have emptied all folders & trash it's still taking up space.

I have eptied all folders and trash on my iCloud email and it still shows up as 5.4 GB on the server. I need to delete this. Any solutions?

I'm using 5.4GB on just my email.
It used to be 2.6GB, I then deleted everything and emptied the trash. Seems like it doubled? Is it storing it somewhere? This has been like this for a week now. I log in and empty trash again...nothing changes.
