6500 classic firmware upgrade

Hi,
I've tried to upgrade the firmware of my nokia 6500 classic phone with the help of the installed Nokia Software Updater(v.1.4.70en) but it shows there's no new update available (Current ver.: 3.21, Update ver.: 3.21)
I'd checked the "Can I update" section in nokia site beforehand and found the latest available software for nokia 6500 classic version number of which is 06.61.
There is any way to get Nokia Software Updater to recognise a newer version of firmware.
Thanks

is it a provider issued phone? if it is, it is possible that your provider had not approved yet of the latest firmware version, so you may have to wait or contact your provider. sometimes a provider may unlock your phone so that you could get the latest firmware but there is no guarantee and it is always the providers call what they are willing to do

  • 6220 Classic Firmware upgrade - stuck / any ideas ...

Am trying to use Nokia Software Updates to do a firmware upgrade to my 6220 Classic from v 03.06 to v 03.46.
All going smoothly until the stage when the updater tells me : Updating the Software, please wait... Estimated time left : 15 mins.
This has now been reading like this for about half an hour - clearly it's stuck.
Any ideas ? Lots of grim warning about "Don't disconnect etc etc".
    Thanks.

I ended up solving this myself simply through persisting. Dull and clunky process, but I ended up ignoring the "do not disconnect..." warnings. disconnecting it, and starting all over again.
Strangely, and I hope it's different for you, I now have a phone that confirms that it has the new firmware loaded up, but I see no discernible difference in performance, battery life etc etc. Close to a waste of time, if Nokia cares (which I don't think it does).

  • ITouch Classic firmware upgrade - I now have a dead iTouch, help!

Tried to upgrade the OS etc at recommended by iTunes but whole thing died. Rang Apple support and tried their solution (below) but didnt even get any life on the iTouch. Any suggestions?
    Many thanks!
    Apple suggested
    - create new macbook account with new iTunes download
    - log off/on
    - into iTunes, connect USB cable (but not to iTouch)
    - hold iTouch top button down till it turns off (already off, didnt do anything!)
    - hold bottom button and plug in cable
at this point Apple said it would go into recovery mode but I just got Error 11, log as follows:

  • Firmware upgrade, then lost

    Hi,
Quickly following automatic firmware upgrade on 1 week old Time capsule, network is now lost. Airport set up utility can't find Time Machine .. others experience the same problem? TM feels hot .. perhaps overheated due to firmware upgrade. Solutions welcome.

Your computer came with OS 9.0.4 installed. OS9.1 is required for Classic so is handy to have, and apparently your firmware installer requires 9.2.1 You can use free updaters to update to any later OS9 version from any earlier one.
I don't see any option but to obtain a used copy of OS9. Make sure you get the gold full retail version rather than a machine specific version since the latter will only work in those computers for which they were designed. You can get away with a machine specific version as long as it exactly corresponds to the model and build of yours, but that is often hard to confirm until too late in the purchase.
Note that any drive you want to use with OS9 either for purposes of installing OS9 or for running software will have to have OS9 drivers present on it. These are installed when you format a drive and cannot be installed later without reformatting the drive (and losing everything on it). If your computer still has its original drive then those will likely still be on there unless you reformatted the drive with OSX and did not select the keep OS9 drivers option (there's no harm in doing so and it saves a lot of trouble for doing exactly what you are trying to do). You can can have a drive present that doesn't have the drivers but it simply won't be seen by OS9.
Disconnect all third party hardware (including PCI cards) when updating the firmware.

  • 6500 Classic Onboard Memory Help...

    Hi,
My wife's 6500 classic has had all the symptons that I've read about on the forums here, phone is about 7 months old i.e.
When battery runs flat can't turn the phone on even if attached to the mains for roughly a period of 8-10 hrs, basically had to charge every night all night.
Gets hot during a call over about 5 mins
    Poor battery life etc.
Anyway this week the phone packed up all together, doesn't turn on at all, just get a black screen with a few multicoloured vertical lines but no indication that the phone is actually on/powered up.
Have taken the phone to a Nokia Support Centre who said phone is under warranty unless it has water damage... Guess what they have said is up with the phone. That's right... Water damage. And the best part of between £80-100 to repair, but the battery has been tested and said to be in 100% condition.
Phone has been no where near water so have no idea where water damage has come from, they say new key pad & screen are required, as we have insurance will just pay the excess which is fair bit cheaper and get a new phone.
My question to you guys is the 6500 has onboard memory and no memory card and my wife has photo's of our son that she really doesn't want to lose, is there a way of removing these understanding that the phone is in this state (doesn't turn on/power up). I've connected usb cable to phone & laptop but it doesn't appear as a device either.
As I have no interest in saving the phone just the pics on it, can it be dismantled to access the onboard storage in view of accessing memory somehow?
I look forward to your responses and she has said she will be backing up photos in the future, lesson learned.
    Cheers.

Check the firmware version on the phone?
    latest one 4.84 31/01/08
IF you have old software then update this via NSU or contact the NCP

  • Nokia 6500 classic & BMW

I have just received a nokia 6500 classic from Father Xmas! I specifically asked for this phone as I have an 07 reg BMW 3 series and the 6500 was recommended by them as a good phone to bluetooth with the car - also they supply a charging/USB cradle for this model. Anyway I have successfully managed to pair the phone and car but cannot get any of the numbers in the address book to bluetooth across. This means that I can't look up a number whilst driving but have to manually look up the number on the phone, write it down then dial in using the communication option in the car - not so good when travelling down a motorway.
I've noticed that someone else has asked a similar question about a Tom Tom but no reply was posted.
Any ideas/suggestions will be gratefully received!

You might want to check the BMW Bluetooth compatibility list. It is available at the bmw web site. The list contains the supported phones, features and firmware levels.
I have a 2006 BMW 5 Series, a 6500c and the BMW-Snap-In adapter cradle and the latest bmw-software in the car. Phone numbers work fine but the phone resets sporadically when plugged in the cradle.
Very annoying situation, since both BMW and Nokia blame the other party for the problem. I've told the BMW dealer that I'm completely sick of Bluetooth and my next car will definititly require a fixed phone implementation.
    Cheers,
    Lars

  • 6500 classic - apps does not work

I seem to get only very few applications to work on my phone. None of the preinstalled games does work (only sudoku works).
Every time I try to open an application I get the message: "invalid application". Then I get the option to delete it.
I soon as I got my phone I updated the firmware to 4.84. Is this the reason. Or is it just a fact that none of the apps I'm trying to use is compatible with my phone?
I would very much appreciate anyone that has any experience with with a 6500 classic to give me some hints. I'm so frustraded:-(
Message Edited by drmilk on 22-Feb-2008 09:41 PM

I've managed to fix mine; the default access point was not correct. As I don't have the 6500 Classic with me, please bear with my vague walkthrough.
    1. Navigate to Menu > Settings > Connectivity > Packet Data. In this directory you can find out which access point is being used. Mine was called O2 Mobile Web. Do not change anything.
    2. Navigate to Menu > Settings > Configuration. Within this directory there will be a setting to set which access point your phone connects to. Mine wasn't set to O2 Mobile Web so I toggled the settings in here to make sure it was.
    3. Hopefully your apps should work.
I hope O2 aren't charging me for this internet usage (I do have an unlimited data plan), if they are charging me, there will be piggies going to slaughter.

  • 6500 CLASSIC-Restart during calls

I have had it with this one. Its a known fact that there is this issue with this phone, that it restarts during calls to a white screen.
Lets start counting how many people on this forum are having this issue, and eventually lets hope that nokia would finally stop cheating us out of a bad quality product

Restart during calls is a fault that shows up in many different models, i think its the first time i heard in 6500 Classic.
Firmware update won't likely do anything about that, but calibrating your antenna will probably fix it (can only be done by nokia care points thou). Sometimes also happens while using a old SIM card version, just try to test your phone with a recent SIM card before you take your phone to repair.

  • Nokia 6500 classic, GPRS always connected?

I recently purchased a nokia 6500 classic on Three,
There is always a G in a box at the top of the screen.
Ive looked in the manual it means that there is a GPRS connection estabiashed, Ive looked through the settings i cant find any options.
how do i turn off the connection?

I've got the self same problem (same phone, same network).
You *should* be able to disable this, there's a menu option and everything, but it doesn't work (for me at least).
I've come to the conclusion that it's a fault with the firmware.
Don't expect a fixed version any time soon (if at all).
Be wary about beating your head against the brick-wall that is their *cough* customer services department. They've made me practically livid (and I'm generally a quite mild mannered person) by telling me all kinds of cr...rubbish about why this connection is there. Only ONE person has acknowledged that this might even be a fault. It's been away for repair for this matter (and some other issues) but still persists.
I wish you the very best of luck, my friend.

  • 6500 Classic 'GSM' Network mode selection unavaila...

I moved to 3 network but on their phones the network mode is locked to dual or UMTS with no provision for GSM only. This zaps the battery. I have found a way around it on the N82 by downloading FTD FieldTest app and going to FTD 81.01 where you can overide firmware restrictions and select force protocol to GSM.
Unfortunately on the 6500 Classic I cannot seem to get FTD? Please advise if it is possible to obtain FTD for this S40 device or if there is any applet that will overide this settings for me.
I've spent about 4 days solid on the net trying to resolve this as the 6500 C battery life is so bad it needs 3G turning off.

But when you select Duel mode in N8 and before selecting Dual if you are using GSM mode then mobile does not select 3G and continue to using GSM network.
If you select 3G first and then dual mode after then only 3G is selected in dual mode.
As there is only two option GSM and Dual mode in Nokia N70 I could not get 3G network.
I request you all to please guide for getting 3G network on Nokia N70.
    Thank You,

The N70 supports network dual mode. The 3G sign is supported by most operators, but not all, so you could be connected in WCDMA mode without noticing. Check your manual and download speed.

  • 6500 Classic Menu Item Freeze

    Hi
I cannot change the ring tone on my 6500 Classic because the 'Personalise' option under each Profile choice does not work and causes the phone to freeze. This also happens with the 'Groups' option under Contacts. The only way to clear the freeze is to press the red on/off button, which takes me back to the welcome screen
Does anyone else have this problem?
These are the fixes I have tried so far:
    * Switch off and on
    * Remove battery and sim, then turn on
    * Check and update firmware/software to v3.21 (latest)
    Regards
    Paul

You could try "Reset to Factory Defaults" command first to normalize your phone settings.
Do you use any passwords/security codes on your phone or memory card? Try removing them first, restarting and then attempt to customize again.
Problem could also be caused by referenced objects (i.e. tones) that are corrupt or that no longer exist in the expected location (i.e. folder on memory card). If you have a card reader, try running a "Check Disk" command on your memory card by using a computer to fix any data problems that may be present on the SD media itself. =)

  • Linksys e4200v2 firmware upgrade fails -bad file

I'm trying to upgrade my frmware to the lastest one (classic firmware)
I've downloaded this file multiple times http://homedownloads.cisco.com/downloads/firmware/1224693043651/FW_E4200_2.0.37.131047.zip
When I try the firmware upgrade (manual upgrade) and select the file, it always complains about the file being corrupt (using the .ssa file in the zip).
How can I solve this issue?
    Kind Regards, Jurgen

Hi, I’ve noticed that all smart routers’ classic firmware starting from E4200 v2 to EA4500 contains .ssa as the file extension. So, the moment you load a firmware with that file extension then the router should automatically read it. What you can do is to use other browsers or better yet use another computer just to isolate the problem.  If that will not work then try the following:
Download the tftp utility (select version 4)
Disconnect the modem from the router and just have the computer connected to the router's ethernet port
Assign a static ip address on your computer
Lower the speed of the computer's LAN card to 10 half duplex
disable any firewall or anti-virus software on your computer
    Run the tftp utiilty

    What utter UTTER tosh!
Do you work for 3 or something? You're definitely toeing the company line. Read the [expletive deleted] manual and understand the error of your ways.
I'll explain my vitriol by way of a summary of my personal experience:
I've got the self same problem (same phone, same network).
You *should* be able to disable this (as per the manual included with the product, and based on every single GPRS enabled Nokia I've ever had -- several.) There's a handy menu option and everything, as stated by the first respondent, but it doesn't work (certainly not for me, anyway).
I've come to the conclusion that it's a fault with the firmware.
Don't expect a fixed version any time soon (if at all).
Be wary before engaging in the brick-wall vs head scenario that will likely unfold if you contact their *cough* customer services department regarding this. They've made me practically livid (and I'm generally a quite mild mannered person) by telling me all kinds of rubbish about why this connection is there. But before they tell me this, they tell me how to disable it through the menu (doesn't work), and asking me to factory-reset the phone (similarly ineffectual). If it's "meant" to be there, why not say that in the first instance? Contradictory advice? I've heard of it. I've been given it. I've become very angry because of it.
Only ONE telephonist has acknowledged that this sounds like a fault to him. It's been away for repair for this matter (and some other issues) but still the "[G]" persists.
To the Original Poster: I wish you the very best of luck, my friend. I'm working myself up to demand a new phone, or perhaps even a different one.

  • Remove Tesco soft key icon from 6500 classic

I recently switched my 6500 classic from Tesco to Virgin ("legally", with the cooperation of Tesco).
The Tesco logo still appears in the bottom right hand corner of the screen above the 'soft' button that takes you to the web. (This is different from the service provider logo in the top right hand corner). Does anyone know how to get rid of this icon?
Tesco said they could have got rid of it if I was porting from Virgin to Tesco, but not the other way round.
Virgin say they can't change it, but I don't know how much the person I spoke to at Virgin knows about technical stuff.
Anyone out there got any ideas? Thanks!

Operators (virtual or otherwise) enforce 2 kinds of lock on a phone. Firstly there's the SIM-lock, which when lifted enabled you to use a Virgin SIM in the phone that was originally obtained through Tesco. Secondly, there's the branding.
Tesco's branding of your phone is what's responsible for the logo appearing above a soft key on your screen and there is no (legitimate) way to remove it without Tesco's collaboration.
    1) You need to ensure that the SIM-lock has been lifted (if you're using a Virgin SIM then it has)
    2) You need written permission from Tesco to remove their branded firmware and install generic, Nokia firmware
    3) You need to take the unlocked phone and the written permission to a Nokia Care Point where they will change the phone's product code, install generic software into the phone and print out a new product identification label for your battery compartment.
    1) and 3) are easy. 2) is "Mission: Impossible".
Note that any "unofficial" methods you may hear about or see on the 'Net are methods that will certainly void any warranty on the phone, and may even preclude your phone from any form of service, under warranty or not, if you go ahead with them. As such they cannot be discussed here.
