6500 slide/6110 navigator/N95 8gb ?

Recently upgraded my 3230 to a 6500 slide. It has a couple of problems meaning I intend to return it. I really fancy sat nav for occasional use though, along with a good camera. Am I right in thinking the N95 would cost me each time I use the sat nav ? As im on a low tariff with 1mb per month incl. If so would it be expensive to run compared to 6110 with worse camera, or should I stick to the slide ? What a dilemma. Any thoughts ?

I think you're talking about network data charges related to navigation.
The N95 does use the network to establish it's initial location as the in-built GPS is not terribly good - I think this is called A-GPS as in Assisted GPS.
I also think I've read that this can be turned off, but I can't be sure. My guess is the network charges wouldn't be very high as the location information probably isn't a whole lot of bytes.

  • Comparing 6110 N95 and N95 8Gb

Having decided I must have a 6110, I went into my local phone carrier store to sign up for a plan that included the 6110. I was introduced to the N95 as an alternative. On researching the N95 I discovered the N95 8 GB. I was also told the "turn by turn voice guided navigation" was included, however, many reviews state this a monthly subscription service - is this true?
I am now totally unsure what to buy. My most important criteria are the GPS and navigation functions, standard phone/contacts functions, email and MP3 playback. I dont really need video and other multimedia/comms stuff.
    Any guidance would be appreciated

    Hi,
After all said and done, I think that the map should be subscription free just like the 6110 navigator. If I need to use the phone outside australia I am happy to pay $60 for a map. But a better question is.... with Vodafone The monthly 10 or 15 dollars I pay for subscription on my N95 8GB actually turns out to be far more in cost than the most expensive UBD or Sydways I have ever seen, not to mention the the navigation software uses gps and thus you are now charge $5 a minute. Pretty expensive 40 min trip if you ask me or does this include free use of gprs.
I just see this a money grabbing scheme, we will give you the use of the inbuilt maps but not only will it cost you per month but also when you actually use it.
Its the same as the " $5 a minute and doesnt matter how much you download " comeon, on 1 minute the phone would be lucky to download 2mb, definately not a song from itunes or pay as you go web site, so now you paying 10 buck for downloading and 1 or 2 bucks for a song hehehehehhe, most expensive mp3 in the world. No wonder such places like p2p are going so strong, telco companies have thier hands very deep in our pockets.

  • N95 8GB navigation

    hi,
i have recently taken an N95 8GB. im not able to use the navigation option. can someone tell me how do i use it, do i need to download some feature?
    need some help

There is an application called maps in the applications folder. Run this application with the phone slide open and outdoors or at least near a window. The phone will take up to 10 minutes or so to get a satellite fix on your position. This position will be plotted on a map. If you only see your position on a blank screen, that means you probabnly do not have the map for your location, in which case your will have to use Map Loader to install maps on your phone.Map Loader can be downloaded from the link below and is to be installed on your pc.

  • RE: N95-8GB Slider

    Hello Everyone,
A couple of weeks ago I bought a Nokia N95-8GB mobile phone, however I have come to notice a 'problem,' as such, with the slider.
When I slide the mobile phone to use the keypad, it seems that there is a slight inbalance, when I use the keys such as accept a call and reject a call.
The left-hand side, where the green call button is, feels really sturdy, however when you press any of the buttons on the right-hand side, such as the red call button, the mobile phone bounces up and down a bit and it feels a little insecure, compared to the other side of the mobile phone.
I know that there was this problem with the first version of the first N95, however does the N95 8GB version also have this problem, but to a smaller extent? Or is it simply the way in which Nokia creates the sliders?
Any thoughts would be much appreciated!
    Stefan

magikguy: It's a question of relativity. Since these are not high precision engineered products (at least not the mechanical slider parts), so it is normal to have some "play" in them. Your description does make the problem sound serious that some of us would consider it a defect. But perhaps you had too high expectations of the perfectness of the sliding mechanism.
Have you ever used other slider phones? Perhaps that would give you an idea of what is "norm".
If you are not sure and it bothers you enough, no harm to take it to Nokia Care or from where you purchased the handset to enquire.

  • Help with n95 8g and 6500 slide

    hi all
    cant see in the books
do either of these phones have the ability to remind you of a text when you miss one.

    Hi
Check page 16 of the Nokia 6500 Slide online manual in PDF form here:

  • N95 8GB - Pay to use sat nav?!

Am I missing something? I paid a fair wedge for my N95 8GB, and one of the things that attracted me to it was the built in sat nav.
Today I go to use it properly for the first time and find that I have to pay to activate one of the most obvious functions, namely the navigation to a destination!! Not only that, but this cost is only for a limited time period then I have to pay again!
I really hope I'm missing the point and someone can tell me what I'm missing, or guide me to an alternative app I can install?
    Thanks

    Couldn't agree more my man.
Well.... Being a Moto / SE fan myself...
Against my better judgment - I let my wife buy an N95. One of the major selling points (To her) was the built-in GPS.
I'm sorry - But I have a problem shelling out a grand on a phone, then to be politely informed that it will cost a further $100 per year to use the navigation system. (In Aust.)
Without the $100 a year subcription - the GPS is useless! (I'm sorry Jericho - but if the thing can't tell you how to get from A to B - Then it's NOT a navigation system)
And PER YEAR? So do we get a different voice every 12 months?
Will work better in 5 years time? (After all it will be a $500 investment by then)
THEN - my mate goes and buys the far cheaper (and theoretically lower spec 6110 Nav) - guess what? Route-66 included - WITH voice guided navigation out of the box? No extra charge to you sir...
What am I missing here NOKIA? Did I just buy the more expensive phone to get shafted harder?
Yes I know I can go and buy route 66 or Garmin XT - But when I can purchase a navteq based handheld for $170 (I have one in front of me) - where is the justification?

  • Can we get SOME of FP2 features?? (N82, N95-8GB)

Hi, I own a N82 bought it about a month ago, and so far it is stable (touch wood)...
and as the FP2 devices poped out now, they are holding a lot stable features and system than the previous one for sure!! the idea of if i want the FP2 features is to BUY a new phone sucks!! my N82 is amazing, it got all what i want, i hate slide phones so i won't trade it to N96 and i won't agree with less features and trade it for the N78 (these two phones got the S60 FP2) and as i read some features need an upgrade for hardware (RDS for exampl), am not asking to install the full FP2 on my device but at least i hope that on the next firmware update there WILL be some new features that doesn't need any hardware stuff such as, Animation effect for menu and rotation, faster gallery and integrate the new features of it, the full screen caller picture (some said it will be in the FP2) and some of these stuff...
we all know that the N82 and the N95-8GB got good RAM so i guess this will work well...
COME ON guys, who agrees with me post sth on and say what u want to see!! we all still missing a lot of updates on our N82 (FLASH for example) but hope for the best...
    Do u agree with me???
Used a lot of S60 devices, now am with the King N82

oh of course, am so with you, but i hope that we can get some improvements too i mean, like the animation rotation, and SOME of the good features, am not saying to give us the whole pack!!
and yes, they just issues One update so far, hope the next one will be out soon carrying a lot of good stuff
Thanks my friend for passing by

  • Help! N95 8GB Horizontal Lines on LCD Screen getti...

I was getting a few horizontal lines across my screen of my N95 8GB. Switching the slider from portrait to landscape doesn't change the direction of the lines.
The lines have been getting progressively thicker to the point where now it's hard to read anything on the phone.
Do I have a dying screen?
I've take the slider apart, detached and reattached the screen and ribbon cable connector, and it doesn't make any difference.
Should I buy a replacement screen or is there something else that could be wrong? The rest of the phone functions perfectly fine.

    Hi calciumicon,
It would probably be best to have your device checked by a Nokia Care point. From what you describe it might be the screen needs to be replace. The N95 is a model which has been out of production for a while though so check to verify it can still be repaired.

  • Share online 3.0 for Nokia 6110 Navigator

Is there a possibility to get Share online 3.0 (or older verisons for nokia 6110 Navigator)
    Thanks in advance,
    Mokic

Try to download a version for another model with a similar operating system (like the N95) and see if it installs.
    Get it here: http://europe.nokia.com/A4388352
If it doesn't install then it is not compatible with your model. This is because it's a feature designed for N series phones.

  • Using podcasts on Nokia 6110 Navigator

Hi, Im interested in listening to podcasts on my 6110 Navigator, I've found the Podcasting software at the blog but it only seems to be able to update directly over the internet, is there any way to set up my PC so that I can update the podcasts on my phone automatically via bluetooth or USB cable?
I think the podcasting software is designed for people with unlimited data plans or phones with wifi built in, but I just thought I'd check.
Thanks for any help offered in advance.

Just one question for you guys, why do you prefer 6110 over N95?
N95 has a better camera, and it has WiFi as well. All at a considerably higher price (+ $300).
Apart from that, 6110 offers mostly the same features. The battery lasts longer, and the use of GPS is much faster. No extra costs for downloading of maps or subscription for the use of GPS.
Try to check out the difference between 6110 which uses Route 66 maps, and N95 which uses Nokia Maps.
I also highly recommend you to read phone reviews on the internet, e.g. by entering "Nokia N95"+review (or test) in a search engine.

  • Nokia N95 8Gb Keypad Fault

    Hi All,
I have a Nokia N95 8Gb which has developed a strange keyboard fault..
The number and top plate buttons only work when the slider is virtually closed, with just the *,0 and # keys exposed. If you slide it all the way open, none of the keys work. If you slide it all the way shut, none of the keys work.
I have tried removing the battery for a more than 30 minutes with no success.
I have also carefully taken the phone to pieces and re-seated the ribbon cable plug and it all looks fine. There are no obvious splits or breaks in the ribbon although the phone is quite old and has seen some use! The screen works fine at all times.
I cannot do a hard reset on the phone either by typing the number or power on key sequence as the buttons won't work with the slider open far enough to get to the keys. I have tried operating the phone with the front removed but this was not successful as the slider has to be in the exact position described above otherwise the keys won't work at all. I have however reinstalled the firware (version 35.0.001) and this will have done a reset on completion and this hasn't made any difference.
I have a number of questions:
    1. Has anyone seen this problem on the N95 8Gb please?
    2. Any idea if it is likely to be a brake in the ribbon cable? (I would have expected to see a problem with the screen if this was the case though.
    3. Does anyone know if a fault with the ribbon cable would cause the main number keys to stop working too?
    Thanks!

@Stolly: Reason for this is that this boards are the official Nokia discussion sites provided by Nokia. Taking any phone apart voids the warranty. Warranty voiding topics are no-go here even though your phone is 4 years old.
People come here to seek help from Nokia users and there is a great chance that users believe it's okey and recommended to take their phones apart to fix the issues themselvs after reading posts. - In many cases people will make things worse and void their warranty, so when they eventually need to seek help at a Nokia care point, they will find themselv to be rejectet because their warranty is voided.
    Nokia won't support that.
If you want to discuss any non-official ways to handle your device, please visit a non-official forum.

  • Nokia N95 8gb problems - freezing, fuzzy screen et...

Ok so been using the Nokia N95 8gb phone for about a week now and noticed that there is a tendency for the phone to freeze for up to 10 seconds like when opening other things such as Inbox etc. The problems mainly occur when the phone is slid shut, then when resliding the phone open the phone freezes or sometimes screen stays black until battery is taken out!
When the phone is slid shut sometimes the screen goes fuzzy in places aswell like a TV with no reception. The text and theme on the phone sometimes goes a dodgy colour aswell like a negative photo and sometimes even goes back to front and the wrong way round?? Anyone else had similar problems or knows what this is??

Its unlikely to have the same issue after doing a software upgrade, it could be some application on your memory card or the simcard .
You may try the steps below
    - A soft reset by keying in *#7780# when on standby - This will not delete any data but will restore all the settings back to default.
If that does not help then you may wanna try doing a hard reset by keying in *#7370# when on standby - This will reformat the phone. DO NOT FORGET TO DO A BACK UP AS THIS WILL ERASE YOUR ENTIRE PHONE MEMORY.
The security code by default is 12345
Also would be best to reformat your memory card and sim cards well as there might be some applications in there which is causing your phone to lag.
Mark me a KUDOS if this has helped...
