6500 slide number of rings.

Does anybody know how to increase the number of rings before i answer? My phone only rings 6 times and that just isn't long enough for me to get to it half the time. I've managed to load an mp3 as my ring tone and i deliberately chose it as it's quiet to start with and gets louder after what i estimate to be about 5 rings. I've looked in the settings and can't see any function to do this. Can it be done or is it set by my provider? Thanks for any help.

The length of the call is set by your provider.
I think the most amount of time it will ring is 30 seconds but if thats not long enough, you'll need to contact your provider, and even then i dont think they can make it longer without totally removing voicemail from your account.

Problem with Contacts for 6500 slide

I recently bought a Nokia 6500 slide and i`m very pleased, except one thing.
I used to have some other phones, and all my contacts were on the memory of that phone (not on the SIM).
For me to have my contacts on the 6500 slide, i had to move all those contacts on the sim, then insert the sim into the 6500 slide and move them again from there to the phone memory (i hate having my contacts on the sim couse i can't add any aditional info).
Ok, so.. after i moved all my contacts to the phone memory, i saw that from about 200 contacts, i only have about 20. At first i thought "ok, there was a problem with the moving process and i lost them all..." I was just about getting over this, when I realized that those numbers that I lost are still in there, but i can't see them.
If I manualy enter a number of a contact that don't show in my Contacts List, when it dials, the number appears on the screen. Same if that contact calls me. I can't see them in the Contact List tho.
It's like there are hidden or something..
I tried changing the settings so that i can see only the contacts in the SIM (in which case, none apear), only in the phone (only those 20 or so appear) or showing both (still, only 20 or so appear).
The contacts are not in the SIM couse i tried putting the sim back in the old phone, and it's empty.
They must be somewhere in the phone. Is there a hidden setting that i can find, that allows me to see those contacts that I thought I lost? It's very annoying to wait till someone calls me so I can add his number again in the phonebook
To be more specific, let me give an example.
Let's say I had contact "John" with the number "12345678". Now I can't see it anymore.
If i dial 12345678 and then hit "Call", it apears like "Calling John"
If John calls me, it apears like "John" on the screen.
If i try to add John to the phone book I get a message like "A name is already entered for that number"
It's like... all the contacts are already there, but I can't see them

Hello and welcome to the forums;
First, you mention the error references a SIM card, however your profile says you have a Sprint device. A small problem there, and I would like to clear up any confusion as which device you have: a Sprint CDMA device, or one with a SIM card.
Second, have you tried restarting your device? Hold down the power button and move the ringer mute switch next to it back and forth 3 times, then wait 4-5 seconds for the device to restart by itself.
Try this, and let us know what happens.

1. sometimes the buttons (numbers or options) becomes unrepsonsive; give it a wait and it works again.
2. Ringtone and Message Alert tone goes back to default; or display some weird alphabet+numbers after a while. And i had to manually set back my favourite ringtone for both calls and message. This happens to the default 'General' and renaming MyStyle1.
3. do you find the battery lasting? not for me.

I got my 6500 slide 3 days ago and I have the same firmware version as you - as well as some of the same problems.
The screen/buttons hang, and I have to wait or press the end button repeatedly to get back to the main screen and start all over again. A few times I had to repeatedly push the unlock + * buttons to unlock the phone. I also have problems viewing my contact info in the PC Suite...
And I have scratches on the "2" key on the number pad. Is this just "wear" or is it a defect, as I see this problem reported by many others. I'd like to know so that I don't look like I have OCD when I go to the store for an exchange.

I bought a mobile (Nokia 6500 slide) with SFR in France. I missed six months and I wanted to unblock it but the code to disable the restriction, is not good and he told me that this is a problem that needs to be addressed at Nokia. So I would like to know steps to unblock it, thank you.

I'm aware that SFR told you to contact Nokia, and they told you wrong.
What you should be aware of is the fact that mobile network operators do not hesitate to lie to their clients to make themselves look clean and shift the blame for any wrongdoing to the manufacturer.
If SFR got the restriction code wrong it is up to them to try again and get it right. SFR sending you to Nokia is not going to help because Nokia cannot generate the restriction code. These codes are the sole responsibility of the operators who enforce the SIM-lock, and the operators know this full well.
Try SFR again, but don't let them send you back to Nokia. Be persistent. If the front-line customer service is unable to help then ask to have the matter escalated to someone with half a clue who might actually know what he or she is talking about.
Also bear in mind that SFR are crooks as far as I'm concerned. They've tried everything in the book to extort money from me and succeeded on one occasion (charging me €7.50 for a PUK code given over the phone when no such code was given, I had the SIM-lock lifted from my phone more than 6 months after taking out the contract and it was supposed to be free).

6500 Slide terrible sound quality

i just replaced my SE k810 for a Nokia 6500 slide. The problem with the K810 was battery which only lasted for one day. So i thought i`d give Nokia a try. Compared to the SonyEricsson phone, however the sound quality in Nokia is terrible. When i dial a number and press the call button the phone starts buzzing in my ear and the buzzing continues throughout the call. The sound that i hear is metallic and some of the tones seem to be missing at all.
Is this a common problem with this phone? I already returned the phone back to the service but as far as i know all they do there is updating the software, which does not fix anything. 6500 slide owners please comment on the problem.

I agree, the sound quality, among other things make this the worst phone I have ever had. Nothing works on this stupid phone and no one wants to fix it because the say that it has been damaged by rain. Well, that is not strange when it is open in the top ( you charge the phone from the top, stupid feature). So I have a phone that I can't use...

6500 Slide Limitations on Message Recepients

Hello,
I had used N72 and then shifted to 6500 Slide recently.
What annoys me is there is a limitation of 20 receipients for a text message.
Even if my mailer group is more than 20 it accepts only 20 recepients.
My software is 4.84 and i am facing Handset HANG during call.
This is very sad part of 6500.
Any solution available for this.

You could try turning the phone off, take the back cover off, remove the battery,memo card and the sim card. Wait approximately 10 mins then put the SIM card and battery,memo card back in, replace cover and turn the phone back on.
dont attempt a self fix take it to a nokia care centre to be fixed

6500 Slide Problems

Hello,
I brought a Nokia 6500 Slide about a month ago, about a week ago all the buttons stopped working except for the End Call (red button), so i could only turn it on and off.
Couple days ago they started to work again, but then i came across another problem. Now everytime i switch the phone on if works fine for a couple seconds then resets to the starting screen and switches itself off.
The software version is v8.3
Any help on this please ?

Probably the best advice ever given to me about this particular model phone (Nokia 6500) was from a tech support guy, who i might add was very patient with a new user (yes new, not novice - don't assume i know nothing about phones) he spoke clearly and slowly these words.
"Ok sir, please give me another number i can contact you on"
- so i gave him the number of my girlfriends phone -
-30 seconds later he calls back on the other number -
"Ok now go ahead and power down (turn off) your phone and allow at least 30 seconds for the power down to finish, now please go ahead and remove the back plate of your phone, now remove your battery and wait a further one minute while we discuss some other features you mentioned earlier" - so he was giving the phone time to go completely dead with no power (battery removed) and kept chatting to me about other features on the phone, while i presume he kept one eye on the clock- after about 3-4 minutes of discussing some other features on the phone, he said "Now go ahead and reassemble the phone, by putting the battery back in and replacing the back plate" -after i had done all this he said- "Now please turn the phone back on and wait at least 2 minutes before touching any other keys" -again he kept me talking about other features on the phone, whilst maintaining one eye on the clock- at the end of it all- "Please reset all your ringtones and personal settings the way you would like them to be" -again he waited on the line while i did this-"Now please if you have any other problems like this, please call us back" and to this day, i have not called them back.
Listen carefully to what a tech support guy says, follow his/her instructions to the letter and you too can have a trouble free Nokia 6500 like me.
Occasionally when my phone does this default reset - i feel as though it might be a problem with the interface between the mico SD card and the phone's ability to communicate between the 2. So a simple hard reset as described above almost always fixes the problem. Nokia's source coding would be older then most people who come on these forums - and have no doubt in saying that there may be some slight glitches in this particular release ... but a simple hard reset almost always fixes this particular problem.
Some programs that run devices are almost mechanical and if they miss a step, have almost no way of reverting back to the previous step, so resetting the phone will take us back to the first step and allow the phone to work it's way through it's own process until the glitch becomes evident again.

How do you increase the number of rings before the call automatically goes to answerphone? I keep missing my calls.
It's a REALLY simple question I know, but I have searched the net and read the manual and can't find an answer.
Does anyone know if it can be done and how?

Broken 6500 Slide

Hi all,
Wondering if anyone can help or provide advice info on costs etc. Dropped my 6500 slide yesterday and as expected from said drop the phone is basically kaput. The screen shows slight lines across to show that its more than likely cracked (not massively though) and it does not power up at all.
This is the best phone I have and with xmas coming I can't afford a new handset myself nor can request for a prezzie (we are pitching in for a new matress me and the wife - please, no sordid quips ).
So I was wondering what prices are likely to be sending it off for a possible repair as this seems the cheaper option? Is there a way of getting a quote before sending it to nokia repair centre (case of ringing them etc) or has anyone used the repair service in past for similar problems and could offer price guidence.

6500 slide stalling when sending MMS

Just recently, my 6500 slide won't send MMS messages. It just seems to be stalling and then ages later, I'm getting a message saying that message sending failed.
I'm not always receiving MMS messages either - I get the same message - that message sending has failed.
If I try to resend or retrieve, it's just hanging and then telling me that it's failed again.
Can anyone help please?

hey thanks for helping! i appreciate it. well i dont know if my settings are all correct, but it seems fine to me. in my account, i did apply for texting for both sms/mms, and mms works if i put my sim card in my other phone, but for some reason this phone just wont work with mms. i dont think the 6500 slide was a USA phone so could that be the problem?
if i were to contact my service provider about this problem, could they help?
yes, i never did recieve the sms setting from nokia. i entered my number and all that good stuff in there about 5 times and never recieved an sms.

Nokia 6500 Slide... Adding a receipiant of a text ...

I have just got a 6500 Slide today and when I go into a text message and into the To: Field i cant just enter the receipiants name.. you have to enter the phone number, or go through the menu and the add receipiant sub-menu.
I used to be able to just put the first few letters of a name in my contacts into the To: field and it would automatically find the name or give me a list of names that came close but this phone doesnt seem to be able to do it, I have had a read through the manual and there is no information about it.... Is this not a feature on this phone or do I need to select something within my phone? and if I do what do I select???

Hello, I am new on this forum and i have one question:
I have a nokia 6300 with a microsd card 1 GB
I've tried to put the card in my other phone, nokia 6500 slide and this one is asking me to format the card.
I select ok and after 10 sec is saying operation failed.....
my nk 6300 can see the card with no problem but my 6500 can't see him.
Can you give me an answer please?

I found a Nokia 6500 Slide a few days ago,
The phone had obviously been dropped and there was no-one around or nowhere to hand it in that someone could have been visiting,
So i removed the sim card and destroyed it so that no-body else could use it,
I put my sim card into the phone and began to use it, anyway the day after i could no longer recieve calls or texts and could no longer send calls or texts, but i could do everything else such as use the camera and apps etc etc,
The sim that was originally in the phone was o2, and my sim is o2,
I still have a full signal bar on the phone and it still displays o2 - uk in the screen,
The message 'Error In Connection' Appears when i try to call,
Im guessing the IMEI number has been blocked,
Is there anyway of getting the phone useable with my o2 sim again?

PS = I have ran an IMEI checker and the imei isnt blocked, i also tried other network simcards in which work and i am able to call, so it just seems i cant use o2 sims, whats the reason for this?

Mostly it's to call in for radio contests. The Iphone is really good at making a quick call, but it seems to timeout after 15-20 rings. I realise this is a small thing, but free tickets is free tickets.
