6500 Slide unrecognized USB device

Hi all,
I've been handed my sisters 6500 slide( 555552 RM-240 ) to fix because it wont transfer pics.
Essentially when it's plugged in it prompts for usb mode just fine but shows as an unrecognized device (on three different computers, two windows and linux vis lsusb showing unknown device)
I've tried restoring factory settings which has done absolutely nothing, warranty has expired so taking it to a NCP isn't really an option, does anybody have any ideas?
Cheers

Cheers for the replies but I think my post may have been misunderstood.
I've tried both data storage/mass storage mode and PC suite mode connected to three different computers (two of which have PC Suite installed and recognize my N97 fine.
My problem is the phone is presenting itself as "unknown device" no matter which mode it's in or which computer it's connected to, so I know it's not a driver issue or an issue with the computers, I've also tried a different usb cable.
I'll post the output of lsusb later when I get the phone back to illustrate what I mean
Ta.

  • Unrecognized USB device on A30-151 in XP

After a clean install of WinXP Pro on a Satellite A30-151, a USB Device remains in the "Other" category (after installing audio, modem and graphics drivers) for which no drivers appear to be available on the drivers CD. At that point the "USB" category contains four entries, two standard "Universal Host Controllers" and two "OpenHost" controllers, all with default drivers.
I suspect the missing device may be a USB 2.0 "PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controller" from a further manufacturer, but Toshiba does not offer a driver for XP for this so it should be supported by the OS (?!).
Any suggestions as to what the device may be, and what drivers it requires?

Turns out XP only supports USB 2.0 as per SP1, so it seems a pre-SP1 version of XP Pro results in the native Windows drivers being unavailable. For anyone in a similar position, it looks as though either a) upgrading to SP1 or b) installing the hotfix Q312370 (

Since loading iTunes 10.6.1 my Windows system is unable to load the USB device driver for iPhone or iPads. Anyone else with the problem or even better a solution?

  • Freezing iPod combined with unrecognized USB device combo... Worst yet?

    Hey Everyone,
I'm using a 5G 30Gb iPod, or at least I was... It was working fine for a couple of ways, untill yesterday I did the following 3 things:
-Updated Adobe with that photo stuff
    -Used an usb Memory stick
-Charged it with a Logic3 AC adapter
I have no if these are the trouble makers, but the usb stick is my main suspect. Since I did these things, my iPod shows the following behaviour:
-When connected to computer, shows the "do not disconnect" for about 30sec.
-After that, the computer starts seeing a "usb storage device".
-At the same time the computers starts seeing the iPod, the iPod freezes.
Due to this crashing, I can't format it or change the drive letter indication. I've tried everything I could think off, including:
    -5R's
-Uninstalling iTunes + iPod software completely
-Installing from the disk, or the latest updates
-Tried to install those usbstor.sys/inf, but it says "best drivers already installed".
-Rebooting over a 100 times (at least that's how it feels now).
Well I guess that was about all, but I've tried it numerous times..
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Ingmar

Wow, I've just had a nightmare experience with Apple and their so called "genius" bar at their store. After at least 10 combined hours of trial and error, on the phone with Apple Care & time spent at the genius bar, turns out (and this is just what I am presuming based on the evidence) that this 5th Gen IPOD won't necessarily work with your existing 2.0 USB port. The USB port has to be "WHQL" certified. My IOGear USB card isn't WHQL certified. I found this out by going to IOGear's website and reading the FAQs about my card. I suggest you do the same ... like go to the USB card's manufacturer's site and read about it. I'm sure there will be something about errors with IPODs ... it might tell you that this card is not compatible (as it did with me). So .. I have two choices now :
    1) Use my IPOD with the slow 1.1 USB link (not going to be happy with that )
    2) Buy a new "compatible" card. (also not the happiest about it)
Below are two cards Apple Care says will work for sure:
    1) OrangeMicro Model # 70USB90011
    2) Belkin Model # F5U219
    Last but not least ...
Why does Apple not know of this?!!! Why do I have to figure all of this out myself?

  • Nano unrecognized USB device

Has anyone had a problem getting Windows MCE to recognize a Nano? I had a similar problem with a Netgear wireless USB adapter and their tech folks said it was a driver issue. Is that the same case here and if so, does Apple have a driver to solve this problem?
Thanks for whatever help you can give!

  • IPod nano no longer recognized USB device - after almost 2 perfect years

Okay, so I ran about 5 miles last night using my nike+ipod. The ipod worked flawlessly as usual. When I went to plug it in to my computer, instead of acting normal I got "unrecognized USB device" or something similar. iTunes didn't recognize it either. It was charging however. The ipod still plays music, but without being recognized I won't be able to get any music changed on it.
I already tried a couple of things. I rebooted the computer. I plugged it in to another computer (with same results). I switched the hold switch and then held down the top two buttons for 6 seconds, etc. It turns off and back on fine. It plays music fine. The computer seems to know it's there b/c it charges and respondes "USB device not recognized". It just doesn't recognize it anymore.
Please help! Did I sweat too much on it?

I have tried everything that has been mentioned on every discussion I could find and it still isn't working. It's driving me crazy! Could any1 help please? All suggestions appreciated.
Out of curiousity could it be a faulty wire?

  • 6500 slide usb issue?

Recently purchased a 6500 slide and have been loving it (despite it's hefty weight for such a small phone) but have a query about it's USB port.
Does the phone charge via the micro usb port?
I bought a car charger that plugs into the usb port but it doesn't work. Thinking it might be the phone i plugged into my pc with the data link cable. I was able to transfer files to and from the phone and memory card but it still didn't charge while it was connected.

maybe the 6500 slide can only be charged through the USB port using specialised car kit?...i have not charged the phone using the USB cable yet~but try to think: if the cable has to do 2 different tasks(file transfer and charging) at 1 time, wouldn't the transfer rate be extremely slow?..

  • Phone update for 6500 slide

I have used Nokia Software Updater before to update this type of phone and it updated okay to the latest firmware.
But this latest phone it won't recognise, i am using a standard nokia USB cable and it does keep losing connection so i thought it could be a broken cable but i think it could be the phone not being recognized as it came from China and seems to have Chinese Network and Pinyin branding because if you do a factory reset it defaults to Chinese language.
I am able to use Virgin Sim card and also eventually got T-moble internet access on the phone.
    Software Details are -
    V 05.41
    30-11-07
    RM-278
    (c) Nokia
It always defaults to upper case when texting.
Will debranding get rid of the chinese?

Please, try the Nokia Software Recovery Tool first. Is your Nokia 6500 slide shown in the Nokia Suite or the PC Suite? If not, is your phone correctly shown in the Windows Device Manager? If not, did you right-click in the Windows Device Manager and select ‘Update Driver …’?
    Ds3425 wrote:

If you want to get rid of this uppercase stuff (because of Chinese), you have to change the set of languages. The set of languages are determined by the firmware variant. And the firmware variant is determined by the 7-letter (product) code which is printed on the label underneath the battery.
If you change the model code (RM-xxx) you break your phone because those firmwares do not fit to the hardware (frequency bands, …).
Okay, changing the product code, officially only Nokia Care Points do that, officially. It won’t fix your Nokia Software Updater issue but that uppercase stuff.

  • Problem with Contacts for 6500 slide

I recently bought a Nokia 6500 slide and i`m very pleased, except one thing.
I used to have some other phones, and all my contacts were on the memory of that phone (not on the SIM).
For me to have my contacts on the 6500 slide, i had to move all those contacts on the sim, then insert the sim into the 6500 slide and move them again from there to the phone memory (i hate having my contacts on the sim couse i can't add any aditional info).
Ok, so.. after i moved all my contacts to the phone memory, i saw that from about 200 contacts, i only have about 20. At first i thought "ok, there was a problem with the moving process and i lost them all..." I was just about getting over this, when I realized that those numbers that I lost are still in there, but i can't see them.
If I manualy enter a number of a contact that don't show in my Contacts List, when it dials, the number appears on the screen. Same if that contact calls me. I can't see them in the Contact List tho.
It's like there are hidden or something..
I tried changing the settings so that i can see only the contacts in the SIM (in which case, none apear), only in the phone (only those 20 or so appear) or showing both (still, only 20 or so appear).
The contacts are not in the SIM couse i tried putting the sim back in the old phone, and it's empty.
They must be somewhere in the phone. Is there a hidden setting that i can find, that allows me to see those contacts that I thought I lost? It's very annoying to wait till someone calls me so I can add his number again in the phonebook
To be more specific, let me give an example.
Let's say I had contact "John" with the number "12345678". Now I can't see it anymore.
If i dial 12345678 and then hit "Call", it apears like "Calling John"
If John calls me, it apears like "John" on the screen.
If i try to add John to the phone book I get a message like "A name is already entered for that number"
It's like... all the contacts are already there, but I can't see them
Can someone help me please... I`m really desperate

    Hello and welcome to the forums;
First, you mention the error references a SIM card, however your profile says you have a Sprint device. A small problem there, and I would like to clear up any confusion as which device you have: a Sprint CDMA device, or one with a SIM card.
Second, have you tried restarting your device? Hold down the power button and move the ringer mute switch next to it back and forth 3 times, then wait 4-5 seconds for the device to restart by itself.
Try this, and let us know what happens.

  • How to use mobile camera 6500 slide as webcam

anyone can help me with this problem?i want to use my mobile camera nokia 6500 slide as webcam on pc.is it any software available for this application. i'm already know about mobiola and wwigo but i can't use them because my phone does not support sis file and my laptop actually does't have bluetooth.plz help me immediately

Nokia 6500 and many other Nokia models use the Series 40
    software platform. According to
    http://www.forum.nokia.com/Resources_and_Information/Explore/Software_Platforms/Series_40/
it is "the world's most widely used mobile device platform".
Many of the phones have a camera and they are even able to
do video calling (video telephony), e.g. Nokia 3120 classic,
as they have a front camera also.
I'm sure many users of such phones (including me) would like
to have an application that would turn the phone into a
    webcam device for a PC.

  • Can a USB device be owned even when logged out?

We are trying to deploy THUM (temperature and humidity USB measurement) devices from Practical Design Group --- simple USB-attached devices to track ambient temperature in our application --- on a variety of Mac hardware all running OS X 10.5.2. We've found, not too surprisingly in retrospect, that when a user logs out, or even is sent into stasis by fast user switching to another user, that user, even as a cron job, can no longer access the USB device --- the USB ports, after all, have to be available to whoever may then be the "console" user. We're trying to run a cron job (that is, one run every n minutes) that will run the vendor's OS X executable to sample the temperature and append the result to a file, to build up a temperature record.
Is there any way around this? We would like to be able to grab the particular USB device and assign it to the original user through any login or logout or fast user switch as long as the machine stays up.
We know that there's a default setting to automount volumes on boot without user, and are wondering if there's anything similar for USB devices.
I've had a look around the Apple USB Device Interface Guide, but it doesn't appear to discuss this issue.
Thanks in advance for any clues.

I tried uninstalling Itunes and all its components and reninstalling it, restaring my computer, restarting Iphone and I even reset all the setting on my Iphone. I connected my wife's Iphone 4 using the same cable and PC and connected and started syncing with Itunes right away. If anyone has any pointers on how to fix this problem, any help will be much appreciated.
