6509 with Sup2 MSFC2

Hi, cannot find power or fan requirements for Sup2 MSFC2 for 6509 on the Cisco site.
Do I need to upgrade my power or fan modules if I upgrade this chassis to Sup2 MSFC2 ? Thanks.
I have 2xWS-CAC-1300W in a 6509 non-e
chassic (no fans show up with a show env
or show mod command) I guess they must be
the non high speed versions.
Any ideas, thanks

I believe it's the Sup 720 that introduced the need for high speed fans. Power required for the Sup720 is the 2500W PS (ref. http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/products/hw/switches/ps708/products_qanda_item09186a0080159963.shtml)
The data sheet for Sup2 / MSFC2 does not note any special power or cooling requirement: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/products/hw/switches/ps708/products_data_sheet09186a00800887fd.html
Hope this helps. Please rate helpful posts.

  • Bgp on cat6500 sup2/msfc2

    hi,
    i have a bit of a problem.
    hardware is cat6500 with sup2 (512MB dram)/msfc2 (512MB dram) and sfm2.
software is ADV IP W/MPLS/IPV6/SSH/3DES + BGP 12.2(8)SXD6.
bgp is configured with 3 ebgp peers and 8 ibgp peers. currently i filter only about 40 prefixes from ebgp peers.
when i remove inbound filters and try to receive entire internet bgp table router just stops. no traffic forwarding, no response, it seems like it is shut down. console response is very slow and bgp router process takes up 100% cpu.
only thing that will make it work again is reload.
    i have found two documents
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk365/technologies_tech_note09186a00801c4f48.shtml about high cpu load and
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps708/prod_release_note09186a00800b6059.html#wp253613 which states that my hardware can take up to 150,000 routes per cef entry.
did anyone had same problem and does anyone knows any way to solve it?
    thanks in advance

What is the IOS version you are using in your 6500 switch?.Give the exact version no u r using ,since for each version of cat switch, there is a separate documentation guide which may provide some detailed info.

  • SUP2/MSFC2 Unable to read flash card

Tring to start the procedure to upgrade from hybrid to native mode.
    Running hybrid catos/ios on sup2/msfc2...
In catos unable to see card from
    dir slot0:
    Unable to open slot etc....
Firmware of sup card is 7.1 and size of flash card is 64MB..
    Any ideas

Do you have any files currently stored in the flash card ?
You may also try on an alternate slot to see if the problem gets fixed
Its possible that the file system in the card is not compatible with CATOS FS. You may have to format the card in the switch.

  • Memory Upgrade on SUP2/MSFC2

When running Native IOS, and need to do a RAM upgrade on the SUP2/MSFC2, do you need to upgrade both the SUP2 memory and the MSFC2 or just the SUP2?
Is there any documentation on this, I could not find any

As a rule of thumb, it is a good idea to match the DRAM size on the MSFC2 and Sup2.

  • Config file from tftp at startup (6509 with Sup720)

    Hi together
I will download the config file for my 6509 with Sup720 from a TFTP Server.
I have configerd the GigabitEthernet 5/2, so I can ping the tftp-server. Also I'm able to down&upload files to the tftp-server.
    The configuration looks like:
    hostname Testrouter
    boot host tftp run 192.168.88.250
    boot network tftp run 192.168.88.250
    interface GigabitEthernet5/2
    switchport
    no ip address
    media-type rj45
    interface Vlan1
    ip address 192.168.88.9 255.255.255.0
The service config command is also set!
The big problem is, the router comes up normaly and do not access the tftp-server in any way :-(
    Have anyone a idea?
    Thanks a lot in advance
    Cheers Ralph

I have done it now in this way, but without any improvement! :-(
    Here is my config:
(I found the ip tftp ? command!)
    hostname Router
    boot host tftp://192.168.88.250/run
    boot network tftp://192.168.88.250/run
    no aaa new-model
    ip subnet-zero
    ip tftp source-interface GigabitEthernet5/2
    ip tftp boot-interface GigabitEthernet5/2
    interface GigabitEthernet5/2
    ip address 192.168.88.9 255.255.255.0
    media-type rj45
    ip default-gateway 192.168.88.250
I'm able to ping the TFTP Server...
    Router#ping 192.168.88.250
    Type escape sequence to abort.
Sending 5, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 192.168.88.250, timeout is 2 seconds:

  • Dual uplinks with single 5400 and single 6509 (with multiple interface cards)

I have a single 5400 with two gige ports and a single 6509 with dual gige line cards.
What would be the best method for running them with dual connections in case an interface or line card goes bad?
    Thanks in advance.

Thank you for the reply Joseph. I swear I've ran SLA on 6500's before. This box is running IOS 12.2 so maybe that's the culprit.
I found a simple way to configure both devices redundantly using administrative distanced routes pointing through a specified interface. On the 6509, the routes point to a loopback address on the 5400, on the 5400 it's configured as default routes. Like this document explains:
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/ip/border-gateway-protocol-bgp/27082-ip-static-routes.html
Seems to work like a champ.

  • Replace SUP1A with SUP2 - Best method to copy configs

I need to replace a couple of SUP1As with SUP2s and could use some advice on the best method to proceed. From what I have read here and elsewhere, it seems the best method is to stage a SUP2 in a spare chassis and apply the configs beforehand. Then, the migration would simply consist of swapping SUPs. I would like to know if this is the best course of action. Also, as to copy configs, would it be preferable to copy the configs to a flash card in my test SUP2 and then just insert that flash card into my new production SUP2. Or, is it better just to use the actual SUP2 I built in the lab. Is there a difference?
    Your help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. I plan on using a spare chassis, but would really like to know if it is possible to go the flash card route in lieu of tftp. With TFTP I would need an ethernet connection; further, I would be transferring config to bootflash and, thus, have to swap card for card. Is it possible to build SUP2 in lab with new config, copy config to disk0: (flash card) and then just send that flash card to campus site where they can insert into new SUP2 and copy from disk0: to bootflash?
    Thanks again!

    Hi there,

The Issue is that my Cacti Server show me that only 10% of the link is in use but if you look at txload you can see that almost 100% of the bandwidth is in use..
What can I do in order to figure out what's going on with this Interface.  I'm thing about to put wireshark and configure a port monitor in order to capture the packets.
Is anyone has any tip to do a troubleshoot with this issue??

  • Problem formatting 64m ATA Flash cards on 6500 Sup2/MSFC2

I'm trying to format the 64 meg cards I have in my Sup2 but it's not working. I'm issuing the "format slot0:" command and it returns with:
    C6509-EEC173_1-CORE1#format slot0:
Format operation may take a while. Continue? [confirm]
Format operation will destroy all data in "slot0:". Continue? [confirm]
    Enter volume ID (up to 64 chars)[default slot0]: C6509-EEC173_1-CORE1
    %Error formatting slot0 (Unspecified error)
From what I've read it says this card is supported and I'm running the required ROMMON software release 7.1(1).
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
    As pointed out by Glen:
64-MB ATA Flash PC card (MEM-C6K-ATA-1-64M=)—Only supported on Supervisor Engine 2. The device name is disk0: and the card requires ROMMON version 7.1(1) and later releases.
    http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/cat6000/relnotes/ol_4498.htm#wp410962
Also, I think Either you are running IOS or in MSFC when you are running this command (suggdested by the command). In either of the case you have to use sup-disk0: to format it.

  • 6509 with 24 10/100/100 LX connectors

i have the 6509 switch with module 24 port singlemode fiber LC connectors.
which type of patch cord should i use to connect these ports to an SC PAtch pannel
    is it LC-SC ???

    hi
As you have mentioned its LC-SC patch cords which is required to be used but do remember that you are going with proper single or multimode patch cords.
Since you are using LX here in your 6509 side do confirm the other end side too.
if both the sides supports single mode then you wont be having any issues in getting the connectivity thru with LC-SC single mode patch cords.
Coz some of the CWDM or other equipments may not support LX modules and you need to go for SX modules on the other side which again supports multimode patch cords.

    Hi there,
I have an NI PCIe-6509 digital IO card. I want to program to set the 96 chanels high/low by using C# programming language and I have no idea where to start. Can someone point me to the right direction? Is there any sample C# code related to NI PCIe-6509?
Ps. i am using windows 7, 64bit operating system and visual studio 2010.

  • 6509 Supervisor 1A-Msfc2

    Dear Pros,
First I thank you all for your contineous technical support.
I have been replacing recently to one of our customer standby sup-1A-Msfc2. It was working till lastday. But to day I got the call from the customer stating that the module again not working and shows the unknown state. What I learnt from the client is that they brought down the power for the switch and then again mae it up sincethen the problem arised. Could you help me to troubleshoot the problem.Clent think that there could be some short of software issues to resolve.
    Please waiting your reply
    thanks
    swamy

    Dear Ankbhasi,
    Thank you for your response.
I just left the client place after the unsuccessful attempt. The problem is that when the chassis is powered off then on the standby sup is not comomg up.
Also I do not have any access to the switch. I can only see the show commands only.
They the clien has all the security applied.
I do not know how to pass your tips to the client since the tech support operting from london to control the switch on bahrain.
Also we do not have any spare chassis to check it up.
When is the actual process when inserting the standby sup to slot 2.
    thanks

  • DHCP snooping on SUP2 / MSFC2

The question is: is there such thing?  The bits and pieces of info I've found kind of contradict each other (some say it's been there since IOS SXE, some say it's not supported at all) - the fact is, we have a 6509 in our network running s222-adventerprisek9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF17a.bin on which "ip dhcp snooping" doesn't seem to be available, either in global or interface config mode...
    Thank you.
