65W problem
Hi guys I have 3000 n200 769 erg. The problem is my old ac adapter is dead. I bought new one but its 65w. Old adapter was 90w. Now the new still charges my laptop but i cant use touchpad or USB slots. Keyboard works. When I plug off ac adapter, everything is ok . so what can I do?
Can I force my laptop to use battery energy while charging?

hi Blaxis,
It's ideal that you purchase the same identical AC adapter for your unit as some components may not function correctly due to insufficient power (like in your case, the Touchpad and USB ports are inoperable). If you can still return the 65W AC adapter, I recommend you get a 90W version of it.

- Sample item
As for forcing the laptop to use the battery energy while charging, I believe you can't do this as the unit's configured to route the power to the AC adapter everytime its plugged-in.

65W Portable Power Adaptor problem
The plug-in that has the electrical prong on my 65W Portable Power Adaptor is shorting out and nonfunctioning. When I tried to find that prong replacement I was told I had to buy an entirely new 65W PPA for $79. Does anyone know where I can purchase JUST the electral prong plug-in for the 65W PPA?
Reset the PMU (power management unit) and re-calibrate the Battery - if that has no effect call Apple about a replacement.

New Project - New Problems or The day the Reaper died
Ok, this is more like telling a story than a cry for help.
The story is about a new project, new (great) results and the disaster that followed.
Well story starts October 21st with me upgrading rig 1 with new parts. They came for my Opteron165 setup which oc'ed nicely but didn't make it far enough. So board, cpu and ram of rig 1 (sig) got replaced by the following parts:
The new cpu is an Athlon X2 5200+ EE (TDP 65W), 2.6ghz, 2x 1024kb L2 cache, 90nm, F3 stepping.
The board is from MSI (of course), a K9N SLi Platinum. Very nice board and luckily it is PCB version 1.2 which features a heatpipe while the older version just had a very bad cooling, passive aluminium heat sink. The older version is the one still to be seen on MSI product site.
The new one looks therefor way better and stays cooler:
In addition I threw a pair of the finest ddr2 ram in it. A 2gb dual channel kit of OCZs new DDR2 PC2-6400 Reaper CL3 Edition. DDR2-800 with 3-4-4-15 (stock), guranteed to work with 2.3volts.
So suppositions for oc were great and I started:
First of all upgraded the bios from 1.8 to the latest 1.10. Then I thought why go step by step, why not starting big. So I set HT clock to 250mhz, resulting in a cpu clock of 3250mhz (multi 13), Hyper transport link set to 800mhz (x4), ram very relaxed (divider 667, 5-5-5-15 2T). It didn't post but I thought solution is easy, forgot to set extra voltage for cpu. Next try at 3250 mhz with 1.25v and set 0.1v extra in bios. It didn't post. I set voltage to maximum but no luck. Tried again but this time I lowered the HT link to 600mhz (x3). Now it posted even with 1v extra and it also booted XP but seemed to be not very stable. So set extra voltage to 0.15v which enhanced stability greatly.
After minor driver problems my old XP installation worked pretty perfectly with the new setup. Time had come to see if it was stable and I started Orthos. It seemed to be ok, 1hour no problems, 2hours, 3hours and bam... 3hours 40 minutes and that's it. I thought "Damn, but it will make it with more voltage". I added more voltage (0.2v extra) and started Orthos again but no way, at 4hours 32 minutes it stopped again.
I'm not easy to discourage and so I added 0.25v to the 1.25v vcore and tried another time. Still 250x13 = 3250mhz.
And it worked!
Orthos now easiely worked six hours when I stopped it myself to see if it would also be stable with more intensed ram settings. I set ram divider to 800mhz (1:1) resulting in DDR2-929 and timings to 4-4-4-15 2T.
I started Orthos and left the machine alone... Outstanding 16 hours later it was still working!
After 17hours 5 minutes and 50 seconds of running Orthos I knew I had a stable beast!
It also worked with ram set to divider 667 (resulting in 406mhz or ddr2-812) and 3-4-4-15 2T. However 1T was a real killer, thats why I left command rate at 2T and were happy so far.
Performance was really good and I wanted to know if this would increase my 3dmark06 results which were already great with old setup because of nicely oc'ed 8800GTS 320. The opteron could do 9572 3dmarks with it.
The new setup easiely broke the 10.000 points by reaching 10306 points with cpu at 3250mhz, ram at ddr2-929 (4-4-4-15 2T), vga as seen in sig.
It really seemed to be finished. The rest would be just playing around and going for suicide clocks. At least that was what I thought at that time.
Before maxing it out I wanted to have the Vista 64 Ultimate installation also running with the new setup. I hadn't booted vista since upgrading to the am2 system, so I tried for the first time....
AND NOW EVERYTHING GOT F***** UP
Vista welcomed me with a blue screen instead of a logon screen. I was pi**** but aware it might not like changing from NForce4 SLi to NForce 570 SLI. Next step was trying safe mode but vista thought of blue mode and showed a screen of that colour. I thought "ok, maybe you dislike setup change" and so I went for a clean install. I even formated the partition and gave it a go. Installation was fine 'til first start. Well, it wasn't a start to be honest as vista told me it was not able to do this. Repair wasn't successful either.
Assumption was now system is not making the oc clocks although proved to be stable under XP. So I removed any oc and loaded fail-safe mode in bios. Relaxed ram timings to 5-5-5-18. I started installing vista again, thought I could oc again when it is installed.
Oh boy, how wrong I were... The 2nd installation turned out to be as faulty as the first and I tried again and again... After installation failed nine times I were finally discouraged.
I just wanted to boot XP for now, forget about installing vista and maybe ask here if it this was a known issue.
Well, I didn't get to see XP. I was just informed about a missing file that also prevented to boot safe mode. I took my XP cd and started automatic repair. After this was nearly finished the first errors and notifications about unknown, missing or corrupted files appeared. Although XP made it to finish install and booted successfully. But this XP wasn't a real XP as many things didn't work. I couldn't install drivers because loads of errors and crc crap made working with it impossible. Clear install time! But no way, same issues like seen in vista.
Now I were pretty desperate and I urgently needed an idea. I came to the solution maybe I could try with single channel, using just one mem stick. I removed one and tried installing XP again. It worked without any issue. Even driver installation and other software worked without a problem. Now I were even able to install Vista.
But still I didn't know what caused all the trouble. I had three suspects: Mobo, ram, cpu. I doubted in faulty board but cpu (failing to control dual channel) or the ram stick I removed were my favorites. As it was the easiest to try I put the other stick back in but used a slot combination that would cause single channel. Booting Vista now turned out to be a disaster. Errors, corrupt files and so on. Same with XP.
Conclusion: Dual channel is not the problem. Added mem stick was now suspect no.1. I took the first one out and started memtest. Memtest didn't show errors after 8hours. I wondered and started Vista. Result was the same as seen before with two sticks. Errors and access violations. Replaced this stick with the other one and everything was fine again.
Next day I tried with a borrowed MDT 2gb dual channel kit which also worked without a problem.
Sad but true one of the Reapers is K.I.A. . Damn....
Now I'm sitting here with a borrowed kit of value ram which luckily allows me to let the cpu run at 3250mhz with mem divider at 667mhz (result: 406mhz) and which I can luckily keep 'til I get another kit of Reapers. I have to send my current Reapers back to vendor these days and wait for the rma process and wait and wait....
So what started greatly ended not so great. For now I'm sick and tired of seeing bios screens or installing windows and I'm also pretty pi**** because of all the data I lost. Some crucial ones among them.
Main problem remains: I have no idea WHY the Reaper died. I never set any higher vdimm than 2.3v what should be ok for it. It never felt hot and was directly in the main airflow. Also I have no clue why memtest didn't find any error with the faulty stick.Quote from: flobelix on 30-October-07, 06:12:31
Be aware that you have to keep an eye on shader clocks when oc'ing the gpu. With common tools you're oc'ing gpu and shaders at the same time. Since I'm suspecting a misproportion of gpu/shader clocks to be one of the reasons for problems with factory oc'ed Geforce 8 you should try with different combinations. With the latest Riva Tuner you can change 'em seperately without having to mod the bios.
Memory is at it's end I suppose, that's the problem with most high end cards, no potential. Seems as you have to live with that.
That's true for HD2900 series I think but as far as I know 8800GTX needs it even for stable working.
Could be your psu is too weak, maybe really time for the new Corsair. On the other hand should be strong enough I guess.
You're ungrateful! That good old 3500+ oc'ed so well and was once a real performer and you call him crap.... bad boy.
"You're ungrateful! That good old 3500+ oc'ed so well and was once a real performer and you call him crap.... bad boy. "
yes you are right the CPU perform great, but its just old..(is not CPU fault in direct sense )

Yes im aware about it, but not this is the case.. i got instability even with 2Mhz on the GD more...SD remain @ stock 1350 and memory stock as well.. and go instability...
Reversed story if i put everythink is stock, but +2Mhz more on the memory i got the same instability....
"With the latest Riva Tuner you can change 'em separately without having to mod the bios."
hmm nope here, its locked increasing GD clock inscrease SD clock as well. they are locked and increased in parallel.(etc, both in same time)
"Memory is at it's end I suppose, that's the problem with most high end cards, no potential. Seems as you have to live with that."
mem. chips used are for 1000Mhz the VGA stock, MSI is not OCed them.. so they must have potencial.. also VGA is adverted with DOT... at least its designed to handle till 5-6% OC, i have done few review(don't trust much here, but anyway its an info) and user opinion no problem to OC till 2100Mhz(1050). So i doubt that is memory problem.
"Could be your psu is too weak, maybe really time for the new Corsair. On the other hand should be strong enough I guess."
Yes that is the only conclusion which i can stuck at the moment... Good news is that i have talked with distributor today and they ensured me that will delivered tomorow for me. So tomorow i will know more about that mistery when i install the more powerful(and hope so great) PSU. -
Hi,
Here's an example of the unexpected behavior with application id I found
earlier, in which Kodo selects bogus fields if trying to follow a
relationship from an entity with datastore id to an entity with application
id.
The attached zip contains two forms of the package.jdo element for the
Customer class. With the application-id version, the result is that Kodo
tries to select an invalid column from the INVOICES table:
javax.jdo.JDODataStoreException: [SQL=SELECT t0.ID, t0.AMOUNT,
t0.ID_CUSTOMERX FROM INVOICE t0 WHERE t0.ID = 1] ORA-00904: invalid column
name
Where does ID_CUSTOMERX come from? It should be FK_CUSTOMER_ID.
The form with the datastore identity works fine (toggle the commenting to
see). The only problem is that if I use datastore identity I can't see any
way to expose the id of the Customer object, which my app will need.
createdb.sql in the root directory shows the schema. There's also an ant
build script. The "test" target runs the test.
Regards,
Rod
P.S. I tried changing everything to use app ids, but the problem simply
cascaded until I got Kirill Solovyev's problem of a java.lang.VerifyError,
apparently because I ended up with an object id class that included two of
my persistent objects (parts of the pk for the Item class). This class was
generated by the app id tool, and was serializable. I also checked that my
app id class followed the rules in the JDO specification.

relationship problem disappears. But the Item class breaks with the
following error:
java.lang.VerifyError: (class: multifield/Item, method:
jdoCopyKeyFieldsToObjectId signature:

I'm using Kodo 2.2.1 and JDK 1.3.1_02.
The structure of the Jar is the same (as, of course, is the schema).
And I've cleaned out the class files (ant clean) before every test.

Rod

Installation problems in Compaq Presario V2617LA Laptop
Hello,
I am new in all of this Unix-Linux world and I need some help, here's my problem:
I have already partitioned and prepared my HDD to install Solaris, Windows and maybe Fedora (if someone recommends a better Linux it'll be appreciated), all of those three partitions perfectly identified and ready for the OS (it happens that I learn quickly, but I'm still new on this). I perfectly pass all Solaris 10 11/06 installation windows and requirements and Solaris begins installation, BUT when it all looks great, the installation (progress bar) just stops moving having 209.29 MBytes remaining and installing the 'Solstice Enterprise Agents 1.0.3 files for root file system', the wierdest thing is that the little slash-dash at the end is still turning around, the working processor light is on and nothing freezes (except when I navigate through the menu options), I have waited for a whole day and the installation does not finish and even re-downloaded Solaris and burn the image again two times and nothing.
Could it be a hardware compatibility problem? What do you think?
My Laptop specs are the following:

Question about X-series with the bundled 65W adapter, gets very hot
Hi all,
My company purchased many X230 notebook in last year.
some are standard configuration (i3 CPU) and some are (i5 CPU).
The i3 seems to have no problem.
However, the i5 model had some issue that it can't full run all the 4-core in high load when connecting the bundled 65W AC adapter, and the adapter got hot. After investigation, we change to 90W AC adapter and the problem is gone. All the 4-core runs correctly and the 90W AC adapter is cool.
The reseller said that the 65W should be factory package and they will not provide any warranty if we use it incorrectly with the 90W adapter (but the lenovo homepage says the adapter supports....).
Now, we are considering the X230i model with the same upgrade to i5 CPU.
Can someone provide feedback if using the X230 / X230i + i5 CPU normally with 65W AC adapter?
Regards,
DonaldCould this be the same or related issue?
I have a T430s with integrated graphics and dual core i5 CPU. According to Lenovo sales literature this system will work with a 65W AC adapter. Also when I ordered the system online from Lenovo's site I was also given the option to select either a 65W or 90W adapter.
At the office I use a 90W adapter. The system idles at under 40°C with the fan usually not spinning or spinning at slowest setting (according to TPFanControl) even when the system is under load. It may get as hot as 50°C when the system is under heavy load. But I've never seen it overheat or had the fan spin continuously at maximum speed, etc.
When travelling I use a 65W adapter in order to minimize size and weight. In that situation the fan is always running and temperatures are usually in the 50°C to 60°C range. On more than one occasion system temperature has "run away" getting increasingly hotter, going to 80°C or 90°C.
In one case the system shut itself down. I let it cool down overnight. When I rebooted I got a fan error. After that incident I sent the T430s to Lenovo for repair. The technicians found nothing wrong. From their report it's not clear if they replaced the fan or not. Nevertheless this "run away" temperature situation has recurred since then.
From reading posts on this thread and based on my experiences with the T430s it seems to me that the 65W adapter doesn't have enough power for even a basic T430s despite what Lenovo's marketing literature may say.
I wonder if the same conclusion doesn't also apply to your systems? Do your temperature issues go away when your system runs on a 90W adapter?

Anybody that has ever had, or still have battery problems....
Please join me in finding a solution.
Lets all converse in this thread about battery problems. I Have noticed many many many battery and power problems going unresolved in this discussion forum and I think if we all get organized into one thread and work together we may find a solution.
If you haven't read of my battery and power problem before here is the run down.
-battery won't charge(0% and then eventually "No Batteries Availiable")
-Battery is NEW. It is valid(works in other iBooks).
-Its not the DC-in board. No, no... I replaced that and it did nothing, it probably won't help you either.
-I've done all the pointless stuff.(Resetting PMU, PRAM, NVRAM, Deep Reset PMU)
-Battery is Charged(Used my friends iBook). Yet my iBook will not power on from the battery.
Now. I know many iBook owners are having the same problem. I have worked countless hours on this problem and I am never going to give up.
Now throughout searching countless forums of Battery Problems I have gathered some observations.(All these observations are only taken from cases similar to mine)
-They have the same problems I have stated.
-All the Resets in the world don't help them
-Some of them mention a noise coming from the iBook.
-Some of them mention buying third party power Adapters.
-The thread usually ends with them asking more questions and replies never come so they give up.
-They all usually go unresolved or Solved in the case that they just buy a new laptop.
So taking that I am pretty sure that this problem needs to be solved. I have been giving it a good try but without information I just cannot get too far.
Any of you people with the same problem as me... We should all compare certain statistics and symptoms to see if we can zero in on what the problem is.
These are my suspicions.
I purchased My Power-Adapter from Ebay. It looked legit and everything and it provides the iBook with power pretty well. Yet I stumbled across something. It says on the Power Adapter that it is a 65(watt) Power Adapter. But when I check in the System Profiler, This is what it reads:
AC Charger Information:
AC Charger (Watts): 45
Connected: Yes
Now why would the Power Adapter say 65(watts) but when I check the stats on my iBook it receives 45(watts). I have checked all the stats of these iBooks and I know that they need 65(watts) to function properly. Some people say 45w will power an iBook fine but I think this is why the battery won't charge. The power Adapter I bough online clearly stated that it will work correctly on my model and it Even says 65w on the adapter. Remember the faulty batteries? Could people be possibly making faulty power adapters and selling them now too? My friend has moved so I cannot test his "Apple" adapter to see if it works.
I also think this may be the cause of these processor sounds(That are stupidly diagnosed as HD failures) that some people like me get. I found out if I turn the processor down to "reduced" the sound goes away. Maybe the "whizzing" sound could be a capacitor being overworked so it can provide the processor with power or the processor itself but I really think these issues are related.
In saying that... This is what I want. Anybody out there that has the same(or similar) problems as I do, please do this:
-State the issues you are having with your iBook.
-Go to System Profiler and Under Hardware click Power, copy all of those statistics in the right pane and paste them in your reply.
-Say what kind of iBook(or Powerbook) you have.
-Say what kind of battery and what kind of Power adapter you have.
-Ask for other statistics that you think might help you.
-If you have any ideas of what the problem is please tell me.
-And if you already know a solution please tell us all.
We can all tackle this problem if we work together.I can't speak to all of your problems, but there are a few things that may help.

You are incorrect about this. The adapter that shipped with iBooks, initially, was a 45-watt model. 45 watts is all it takes to properly run the iBook and charge its battery. The iBook registers the adapter as 45 watts because the iBook only takes the amount of power that it needs. A Powerbook needs the full 65 watts in order to run the computer and charge the battery simultaneously.
Did you replace your DC-in board yourself? Has it ever worked since the DC-in board was replaced? Are you sure you got it plugged in properly?
Yours is acting exactly the way my husband's did when his DC-in board needed to be replaced. That is, it would work from a fully charged battery, but would not charge the battery. A DC-in board replacement was the fix for his, and sounds like that would be the fix for yours, too. If you did it yourself before, maybe you need to either try it again (you could have received another bad one), or send it off to have someone else do it.
Good luck. -
MacbookPro 13'' temperature problem
Hi everyone, I have a Macbook Pro 13'' Mid-2012 (A1278) with a Intel Core i7 2.9GHz for a year ago, but the cpu fan is a little noisy and I check temperature with a "Temperature Monitor App" and CPU Temp is 80ºC with only Chrome and Coda 2 opened.
Normally I work on 3D applications like Autodesk Maya and AutoCAD, this apps can overheat the cpu but now i can't work with these apps because the performance is very low, I cleaned up the logic board and temperature don't decrease.
¿How can I decrease CPU Temp? I bought a new CPU Fan and I don't want it damage again...
Thanks for help me and sorry for my english I speak spanishNahomi López wrote:

100°c on the charger body is unacceptable and would be impossible to touch for more than a second. Mine have never been more than 55°c. There is something terribly wrong here. Look at the contacts between the charger and the MBP. Is there any discoloration? the pins in the charger connection are spring loaded, do they move easily?
Fan Speed is 6140 rpm and CPU temp is 75ºC, I think a change the thermal compound.
The CPU temperature is not bad nor is the fan speed. I have doubts about that replacing the thermal paste will improve thew situation.
Open the MBP and see if there is dust an debris inside. I f so clean it out.
Again, delete Google Chrome and see what happens. It has been known to have compatibility problems with OSX.

Registering a 65w power supply? Where? How?
Just had not one but TWO G4 17'" powerbook power supplies go dead on me within the span of two weeks. The first one shorted out totally and left charred plastic and burn marks right where the cord the plugs into the computer meets the power brick. However the second literally caught fire in front of my eyes!
I was working on my laptop when suddenly everything shut down. I was confused at first but then I noticed the burning electric smell. When I glanced down at the power supply I saw blue sparks and tiny flames coming from where the cord meets the brick (computer side). I immediately unplugged my laptop first and then killed the power surge strip. The cord was totally burnt to a crisp. Gnarly...and good thing I was home when it happened!!!
Anyway, took it down to the Apple store where I got surprised looks from the staff but long story short my applecare was expired and they didn't have any 65w power supplies to "swap out" with me since all the new books use the 85w standard. Needing my computer desperately, I swallowed my bitterness and plunked down the $90 to get a new power supply. (Personally I find that price outrageous...especially since I recently had a problem with a LaCie drive and they sent me a new power supply free of charge without any hassle whatsoever!)
So I am using the one cord to power the two machines currently and I tried to register the darn thing in case this one decides to ignite but on the registration page I can't find any product listing for the power supply...or other apple peripherals for that matter. Its funny too because the Apple store staff made a huge deal of telling me to register the plug and I can't find a way to do it. I own many Apple products and they are all registered but it seems I am lost when registering something simple like a plug.
Can anyone out there help me or provide a link?
*I tried the normal registration link and there is no category for this product.
thanks!yeah, I figured I would simply call AppleCare or take it back to the store and have them explain how to register online...since they said I could specifically register the power supply online.
also just to clarify things, the cords were not damaged but they were 3 years old. the litlle plastic flange nubs that are near where the cord from the laptop enters the brick were still intact. in fact, that is what MELTED and got all crispy and black. it seemed to me the problem was that the plug was somehow damaged INSIDE the plastic sleeve right where it entered the power brick.
I agree to never wrap the cord around the brick though. One thing that I must say to people who bought the G4 17" books when they first came out and are still using the same power supply, please take note of how hot the brick gets. Right before all this grief happened I started to notice that the brick was getting VERY warm (dare I say hot?) to the touch. I never once noticed any physical damage to the wires or connector...as far as I was concerned the power supplies were slightly less white but there were no visible signs that they were going to ignite.
At this point it is too dificult to determine the factors that may have caused both power supplies to catch fire, so I won't speculate. However, my new power supply is plugged into the same outlet as the other two and working fine. It is also much much much much much much cooler to the touch than my old power supplies.
My advice: if your G4 powerbook power supply is too hot for you to hold it in your hand it may be time to take advantage of AppleCare and trade it in for a new one OR go to your nearest Apple Store and plunk down $90. Your choice! -
I am hoping someone could help shed somemore light on a problem on my (powerpc) powerbook i've had now for a few months. When i try to run my powerbook from the battery (fully charged) all that happens is alot of fan noise, no display and then cuts out. My friend had a look at my powerbook and he got it running without the battery and with the mains adapter (65W) connected. The powerbook ran fine and all the programs installed before this problem ran fine. My friend believes its a DC-InBoard problem and was just thinking is this right or could it be something else
Welcome to the Apple discussions.
If you have the original OS X discs that come with the Powerbook, you can run the Apple hardware test to see if it picks up any issues. Note it's not strong in it's testing of the charging circuit, however. Insert the OS X disc that says in small print on it 'AHT Version x.x'. Reboot holding the option key down, choose the Apple hardware test, click the arrow pointing to the right, and follow directions. Choose the extended test. If you have either of the TechTools programs, they can do the same testing. Does this tell you anything? -
Power supply connection problems
I have an HP Compaq 6715b and have gone through several power supplies - it does not take long before I lose connection between the male/female connection. I try to be gentle but this keeps happening, what is the problem? Is there a problem at the female end (inside the computer)? Would a docking station solve the problem? It seems to be an expensive solution jjust to get power.
Thanks
GregWhat is rating of the AC Adapter you got?
Based on the specification, you should be using a 90W AC Adapter such as 463955-001.
If you were using a 65W AC Adapter, then it is likely the 65W AC Adapter were running too hot and in turn cut down the life expectancy of this 65W AC Adapter.
If you were using a 90W AC Adapter, I think you are just unlucky to get some of the bad units.
Yes. A Docking will help. It is because it uses a 135W AC Adapter to the docking station and your laptop will get power via the docking connector at the bottom of your notebook.
However, there are so many type of HP docking stations and you need to make sure to order one for your notebook. -
Power Management problem - Powerbook 15" 1.67
Hi,
Has anyone come across a hardware fault that can drain 60% of a battery overnight when the computer is in full shutdown?
I had thought I had a PRAM issue, like other posts here, I checked the PRAM and it's functioning correctly.
The system profiler reports battery not charging - although the battery is new and the AC adaptor is an aftermarket 65W (that reports 50W).
Bets on please - DC or logic board....?
Thanks,
MGM.You obviously know the 4 charging components. Have you tried charging the battery up, removing it from the Powerbook after you shut it down at night, to see what it is in the morning? If it's 60% in the morning, then you know the battery isn't holding a charge (not an ebay battery is it?).
If the system profiler reports the power adapter is attached, it's getting past the DC-In card, which reduces the possibility that it's the problem, although that doesn't rule it out. When we had power problems recently, the Genius told us they usually replace the DC-in card first, because it's cheaper than replacing the logic board.
However, if you take it to an Apple store, and they send it to the Apple Depot for ~$350, they'll replace whatever needs replacing to get it working as close to new as possible. If the case is banged up they may charge you more, as they'll replace the banged up pieces too. Comes back with a 90 day warranty. -
Can using a MB power adapter with a MBP become a problem?
I got a late 2008 Macbook here and a early 2008 Macbook Pro. I noticed that the power adapters are of different size. When I use the power adapter of the late 2008 Macbook with my early 2008 Macbook Pro, it gets quite hot which, I assume, is due to a higher power requirement of the early 2008 MBP.
Can this become a problem?Although I cannot say for your particular combination, the general rule tends to be that a power adaptor that is lower in power rating than what was issued can run the computer or charge the battery, but not both. There are time when you need max power. It's obvious from Apple docs and reports here that the MBP can draw from both the battery and AC power under extreme workload condition. In such a case the battery would run down, something less likely to happen with the proper adaptor.
I have a pre-owned PowerBook G4 17" that should have a 65W power adaptor but came with a 45W unit. It will not start on AC power without some charge on the battery. That's the stuff you can encounter.
Did you notice that the Late 2008 Macbook Pros rate their own new forum here:

hii guys
need help my laptop when pluggin dan charging always discharge when running program but when it turn off or idle normal charging any solution? hardware or software problem?
many thanksWelcome to the forum.
1. What is the model number of your notebook? (See How to find a product number or machine type and model?)
2. What is the wattage of your AC charger? Look at the sticker for something like 20VDC 4.5A or 20VDC 3.25A. The first indicates a 90W charger and the second indicates 65W. It is possible that your system requires 90W but your charger supplies only 65W.
3. Did this problem start recently?

I've just upgraded my one-year-old PC with a new CPU and additional memory. I flashed my old BIOS 1.7 to the newest 7360v20 version, which should support Q9550.
However I can't boot up normally (even to POST) and have to keep trying five times (in order to get the "BIOS settings resetted" -message). The only way to boot seems to be the following: In the resetted BIOS settings menu, I choose to load fail-safe options and DO NOT save the BIOS settings. If I save the BIOS settings, the PC restarts and I'm stuck in the beginning - not getting booted even to POST.
The processor is nicely recognized by BIOS, when I finally get there. When I get booted my OS (winXP 32-bit) seems to run fine and stable (over 100 hours up and running now). However, when I try to watch 1080p video or extract large archives, my CPU slows down remarkably (1080p just doesn't run and extracting takes ages). Basically, I cannot do anything CPU costing. I'm not feeling any other differences. The temperatures seem normal and I don't get any blue screens whatsoever.
I can think of only the following explanations
- My CPU is not supported (my Q9550 is s-spec SLB8V). However, my system had the same boot-up problems with the older E8400 after flashing the BIOS, so that doesn't seem to be the case.
- My BIOS somehow isn't correctly flashed, doesn't actually support the CPU, or some old settings bug it. I've dropped the BIOS battery out a couple of times to be sure.
- My PSU can't somehow keep up
ATM my specs are:

a cheap-ass PSU with 450W and 12V/18A, 5V/14A, 3,3V/18A

The power consumption changes are:
Intel c2d E8400 TDP 65W (old cpu)
Intel c2d Q9550 TDP 95W (new cpu)Quote
but I get only 8x 333mhz = 2,66ghz
If you enable EIST in BIOS, the multiplier should be automatically set to x8.5. As far as I know, this bug only exists if EIST is disabled in BIOS. In any case, the problem should be fixed once you flash the latest A7360IMS.1A0 release for your board. Just make sure that your system is entirely stable before you think about flashing.
