6600GT issue

I have had an MSI 6600GT for better than a year now no problems. earlier today, though, i came back to the comp after leaving it for awhile, and I had a black screen and nothing responded so  i restarted, After restarting, when trying to run a video in windows media player, or try running games, i dont egt video or grafics, just large blocks of colors.  I have tried 2 differnt driver sets, no change.  Playing with the windows troubleshooter it told me to change the hardware acceleration on the settings panel.  Video will play with it set to None, the second one and the third(disable allDirectDraw and Direct3D accelerations). As far as troubleshooting it, I'm at a loss on what to do at this point and any help would be welcome.
System is
AMD64 3500+
MSI K8N neo4 ultra
2gig corsair ddr400
120 WD HD
160 WD HD

I reformated and reinstalled xp.  Media player files and the like will run as they should now.  Games all run with really screwed up grafics.  Fluttering and stuttering with green being a predominant color.  Anything else i can try? or is it looking like the card is dead?

  • 6600GT PCIx constant crashing

My system crashes every time after playing UT2004 when I exit. The screen goes black, and I get a hard crash with a DOS looking screen (It disappears too quickly to read).
I know it's an issue with the video card.
I have tried the CD drivers and the latest nVidia drivers. Both crash with exactly the same behavior. When I exit (even when pressing the Windows Key), the screen goes black quickly (as it did with my old system) and then crashes with a re-boot. I will also hear loud static in the headset during the crash.
This is very frustrating to say the least.
    Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe
    Windows XP SP2
    MSI 6600GT PCIx
    1024 Corsair Matched
    430W Antec True power
    Both game and Windows run 12 x 10 32Bit
Everything plays fine during the game, and this is the only crash I've had.
    Please help!

I haven't tried any other games.
I finally got something useful out of the crash information sent to MS. It directed me to a page saying that the issue was that the video card driver was in an infinite loop.
Here's a link to what it says is my problem:
    http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=293078
I've tried both the latest video card drivers (directly from nVidia) and the shipping video card drivers. I would try upgrading the nForce4 drivers but there aren't any posted at nVidia and the ones at Asus (which I presume to be the same as the shipping nForce drivers) don't work...they won't extract.
I will post this issue on the UT forums. Sadly, I think this is most likely a waste of time. But, it's worth a try.
For a time, I thought it was a sound-card/video card conflict as the crash was accompanied by loud static like noise out of the speakers. And, the only thing I could make out on the 'DOS' screen that popped up after the crash and before the restart was "IRQ" and "Memory Dump". Unfortunately, this screen only lasts for literally about 0.1 seconds. I can't read it that fast.
I have all superfluous resources on my machine off (in the BIOS: serial port, parallel port, second Marvell Gbit LAN, and onboard sound are all turned off). Overclocking doesn't change this behavior one way or the other.
My processor never exceeds 35 degrees, and I've tested my RAM in this board and others without incident.
    [EDIT]
Much to my surprise, this problem is on the UT forums. It appears to be specific to the AMD64 chips and NOT 6600GT issue (at least specifically).

  • Issue with MSI 6600GT

I recently bought an MSI 6600GT for my system.  My system is a  AMD Athlon 64 3000, MSI RS480M2 motherboard, 2x 512MB RAM, Enermax 365 PS, UATA 133 HD, and Hauppage MCE150 PVR.  I had previously been using the builtin video (now disabled) with no issues.  Ever since adding the MSI 6600GT I've have an issue where after playing a 3D game awhile (30-60 minutes generally) I'll get a total freeze or a BSOD complaining about nv4_disp.dll.  I'm using the latest drivers from nVidia.  Typically when playing the gpu temp is around 80-90C as reported by both speedfan and the display properties (which shows it as either green or barely yellow).  It seems to be heat related; however, it doesn't appear over spec so I'm thinking the gpu is deffective in that it's way over sensitive to heat.  I can't think of any other reason for this.

  • Compatibility issues or defective card (6600GT)?

    I just put a computer together with MSI's 6600GT AGP 8x, a Chaintech S1689 Socket 939 motherboard, and the 90nm Athlon 64 3200+ .
Everything seemed ok until I tried running games.  World of Warfcraft would freeze upon opening, sometimes causing the computer to restart.  Counterstrike would run with crazy artifacts and freeze or not run at all.  I switched in an old Geforce3 Ti 200 and everything runs fine.  We grabbed a 450w power supply to be sure that power wasn't an issue.  Unfortunately we didn't have another computer to test it on.  In addition, we made sure to try multiple versions of MSI drivers but to no avail.  And yes, the external power connector for the graphics card was connected.
I'm just wondering what you guys think... did we get a defective card, or is there some known issue with Chaintech motherboards that I haven't discovered yet?
    Edit:
One more thing worth noting... installing the newer nVidia drivers caused an incompatibility that would result in the computer restarting upon startup.  This required starting up in safe mode, removing the nVidia drivers, and using MSI's drivers.

Shoemucker,...just so you are aware....I have a Chaintech s1689 also...I ordered a 9600Pro to go with it....it worked fine..but was too slow on MS FlightSim 2004....OK, here's what happened; I installed the 6600GT, everything in 2D worked fine....but then I went to try 'FS 2004' which is 3d.   It went into the menu fine...but as soon as I tried to get past the menu the computer shut down..and restarted.
I repeated this twice, shut down twice....so, figuring it was some 3D issue I went into DirectX 9c to run the D3D diagnostic. As soon I as hit 'run'..the computer shut down, and restarted...on the 3rd try of trying to run the diagnostic I hear a    PFTZZzzzzzzZZTT!!  'poof'  'pop!'---'smoke' 'smoke'   'smoke'...The PC goes blank...
I took the card out...there was black 4v capacitor dust spread over the card where it  had burst....dead card.   Put my old Nvidia MX400 in PCI..PC fires up again.
I RMA'd the card , and am waiting for the replacement presently.  I just thought you might like to know that you're not the only one this has happened to.    I am investigating in the mean time...and I offer to you any other info I can gather up...if you find anything I would appreciate a PM..but either way...Ill give you whatever I can find out.      I dont think this is anything like a 'driver' issue...there seems to be a voltage problem.   Dont plug the replacement in until you are SURE you know it will work. It's probably not just a bad card.
UPDATE:   I e-mailed Chaintech Tech Support to try to eliminate an 'incompatibility' possibility. I asked specifically if the 6600GT was compatible with the s1689.....this is the 'less than straightforward' response they gave me; and I quote:  Quote
"This is really weird, pls send us your board. This will cost $35 dollars if we find no board error."
So, I'm having a hard time understanding wether he meant that 'it's weird' that I was having problems.....or wether he just didn't understand the question. I'm having a very hard time finding anybody on the web that has run this board with a 6600GT.  I'll keep on lookin'...   Also, every other forum I've asked in tends to say it was just a bad capacitor, so go ahead with the replacement....So, 'shoemucker', you may have a weak capacitor, and you may do well to RMA it before any warrenty runs out, because if it really is a poor capacitor, it may wait just until the warrenty/refund period expires before going.  The symptoms are identical.

  • MSI 6600GT PCI-E video playback issues

ANY video file i try to open opens fine but if i try to skip around in the video the sound cuts off and i get accelerated playback, the video goes really fast and does not recover, i have to close player and start again. My machine is pretty high spec and have updated all drivers and BIOS still have this issue tho, any ideas/solutions? any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks
I also couldnt play battlefield 1942, it crshed before it got into the game, it appears that there are a lot of problems with nvidia drivers??

About PSU I'm a old (41 years old) newbie, and  I had to re-assemble my old computer to work   but I check this before with MSI software and at motherboard bios voltage check and remember that it was ok it is a 600 watts. But I think that even if it is not, I could at minus install the driver and start Windows. I had no possibility to even start Windows.
If I  install any MSI or Nvidia driver, when loading WindowsXP the screen turns black and at some time after the system reboots and prompts to start in secure mode. So I can't do anything, even starts Windows with this videoboard with right drivers. It only works with "VesaSafe" driver.

  • RS480M2-IL and 6600GT pciE lockup issue, please help....

I have an MSI RS480M2-IL motherboard and an eVGA 6600gt  pciE video card and some major problems.
    System Specs:
    eVGA 6600gt  pciE 128mb
2 WD 320GB SATA drives (not in raid)
    Chaintech 7.1 pci sound card
    A64  3000   939pin  with Artic Cooling Freezer64 cooler
Forton Source 450W psu (atx 2.0 with more than enough amps and watts)
    512MB corsair value 3200
    512MB mushkin decent memory
    Problem:
Whenever I play games (battlefield2, gun etc) the system always crashes within 1 hour
The temperatures never get high, in fact the cpu temp is only a little above idle after gaming for 45 minutes, and the GPU never exceedes 60 degrees
    What will happen is this:
The game will be running fine, 40+ fps no lags or anything, then all of the sudden it will freeze and a few seconds of sound will repeat themselves. Sometimes the game comes back within about 20 seconds, but sometimes it does not and the system resets itself. I can sometimes alt+tab back to windows and force quit the game through task manager. When I do this I get an error message telling me that nvdisp driver has quit working and to reset.
    I have tried:
    Using onboard sound (no difference)
Taking out one stick of memory (no difference except this creates lag in games)
Many different set of geforce drivers (they all have the same problem)
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I know from reading the BF2 forums you are not alone.  A lot of people started having probs around the 31 of Oct, apparently after a PB update was pushed out via BF2 server logon.  I was having some probs and tried updating all my drivers and BIOS which is how I found myself here.  I coud not get my video card to work (ATI 9800 Pro)at all after flashing to 9.2, but after changing a few settings I at least have my video card back.  I have not tried BF2 yet, that seems to be the overall test of any component.  I am not suggesting you flash your BIOS by any means (more trouble that it may be worth), but your problem may be with PB, at least that is what the conspiracy threorists will preach.
check this and see what happens...https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=89456.0, it helped me
On the forums for BF2, I think at totalBF2.com, there were some potential fixes, but I have not tried any yet as I wiped my system to begin to unscrewing what I had done already.
Good luck and let us know what happens....

  • What's wrong with my 6600gt ?

    Hello all,
Im having quite of a doubt or problem concerning my MSI NX6600GT-VTD128SP ... I acquired the card about a month ago and had been playing Age of empires 3 and Black & white 2 since then... and besides being able to enable 2.0 shaders, I have seen no performance increase over my old MSI Geforce3 Ti 500 , frame rates are quite low to tell you the truth. I thought it was a game issue rather than something wrong with my card/pc.
So today I got a hold of Quake 4, and I started playing with very disappointing results. The game feels very choppy and slugish, and I am getting about 20-30fps in the game @ 1024x768 - 32bit (med quality - no AA - no AF) but its really too choppy... to make me feel worse about it, I found this:
    http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/quake_4_mainstream_performance/page8.asp
These guys are saying that a 6600gt @ 1024x768 - 32bit set at med quality should give around 85fps on Quake 4...
Im really starting to think that I should expect more from this card than what it is giving me right now (as I said before, quite the same as my gf3 card)... just for comparison purposes Black&White 2 gives me around 10-12fps and Aoe3 around 20fps.
Any 6600gt user to help me out here? or at least tell me If this is what I should expect from my card...
I have the latest forceware drivers installed, nforce drivers, fresh win install too (win xp mce 2005).
I have also tried unplugging everything from the psu (except hd,mobo and vid card of course)...
    specs:
    AMD Athlon64 3200+
    MSI K8n Neo2 Platinum
    MSI NX6600GT-VTD128SP
    512mb s3+ ddr 400
    Seagate 120gb sata drive
    Soundblaster Live! 24-bit
(I just bought this new pc, and as of now, am very dissapointed with it's performance, specially since I've seen very little improvement over my gf3 on the same rig)

    Hello!
Don't think you have to flash the BIOS. Nor do I think there is a problem with the mobo.
Two main reasons for boot problems are:
PSU with not enough grunt - please say something about it.
Memory timings are too tight - don't have any special or ultra settings.
The power cable has not been attached to the graphics card - don't know really if it is needed but I think so.
Please note that a weak PSU might not reveal itself til the power cable is connected.
About flashing BIOS, if you use the LiveUpdate program that came on the MSI install CD, it is no more trouble than upgrading any driver. But please make sure you get the right BIOS, and that it solves the issue you got.

There is a similar problem in discussed in appdb but they did not find solution.
So I'm asking if there is a way to configure wine directx capabilities?
I know that wine supports directx7 and I'm fine with it, I don't want to install 9c
because I had similar problem with Call of duty 2 and installation of directx did
    not solve anything.

I have an MSI 6600GT 128 mb (NX6600GT-VTD128E) video card which I purchased about 1.5 years ago. Last week while playing Far Cry my screen got alot of little fuzzy squares (see picture links)

I exited the game and my desktop was normal as well as many non-graphic intense programs where also normal (Word, Excel, internet, ect.) I opened Microsoft Flight Simulator and got the same result only where there are involved or moving graphics.
I uninstalled far Cry and have the same result, I installed the newest driver from Nvidia and also the same. Has this happened to anyone before, is there a way to solve it or should I just by a new card ( I am not opposed to that). Any help would be appreciated.
I should also let you know that I have not OC'd the card and this happened even if I start the game after the PC has been on for 2 minutes or 2 hours, so I don't think that heat is now an issue.

folow Task514 advice. probably VGA overheating due failure VGA FAN failure. they usually break down due 3-4 moutnhs totaly stop. and need to be replaced. consider replace GPU FAN, or better entire VGA Cooling.(with new heatstick).
"Temp is at 64 C is that a high temp to have while just having that internet open?"
well that is idle temp, when GPU enter in full load its gain much higher. and active cooling is sensitive at high load. for NV43 Chip due his 0.11 manifacturer process is little hotter(use more Vcore). you need temp logger to determinate it (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=100831.0) or observing temp in real time in full GPU load.(this can be done with Ati Tool http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4109 , start program, run scan for artefact and leave it for 30minutes and observe real temperature at high load same time)

  • EVE-Online gameplay issues

    Hi All,
First time posting an issue, these forums have been such a great help that I haven't needed anything else yet.
Anyway, I have a post up at the EVE-Online forums stating the following:
I am using Arch32 currently and have issues with the Minmatar Stargates. Every time I get within 1500m of a gate, my client completely freezes for 20 to 25 seconds then becomes available for about 3 to 5 seconds before freezing up again.
Has anyone else had an issue with Arch Linux and Eve? I have tried it with Ubuntu 7.10, but feel like ubuntu runs extremely slow on my computer after a few days.
Anyway, I am using Wine .9.4.56-1 with the premium install (premium content disabled).
I have searched the forums, tried several things and to no avail. Docked is great, space is great, gates really suck!
    Help me out please?!

EDIT 2: I compiled WINE 0.9.57 from the source tar.gz on winehq.com and still getting the same errors/stargate issues.
Here is a direct link to that post... http://myeve.eve-online.com/ingameboard … 57&page=67
Now, I haven't had a chance to check any other stargates, but I know there have to be a few Arch users that have had some experience with EVE-Online.
Any suggestions would be helpful. I have tried everything i could find for settings and such on the Wine App DB and also on the EVE-Online forums to no avail.
    Thank you in advance,
    GnunixGuy

I've been playing eve-online since November on wine as a Minmatar and I haven't come across any freezing issues with their gates. My system is an AMD Athlon-XP 2600+ system with a 128MB 6600gt video card using wine-0.9.57. Have you tried http://wiki.winehq.org/UsefulRegistryKeys ? I have OffscreenRenderingMode set to fbo and VideoMemorySize set to use my full graphics memory. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

  • Faulty Motherboard K8N SLI or GPU's 6600Gts??? Pls Help

    Dear All,
I've been running with the spec below for about a month, my SLI MSI 6600GTs ran perfectly well Half Life 2 never crashed and 3dMark 2005 gave me 6800Ultra like scores... all was good until this morning    I turned on my PC and was greeted with the message that SLI had been disabled as one of my cards had been uninstalled  .
I looked in my devices and yep there was only one 6600GT showing when there used to be two... and I just cant get it to work again
I've un-SLI'd the motherboard and tested each card individually ... all ok...
put both cards in and the system wont boot / or GPU wont show anything not sure which?
When I re-SLI the motherboard the system boots ok with both cards in but it still shows only one GPU
I think its the Motherboard but Im open to suggestions (hence the posting    ) ..
    thanks in advance

I've got the exact same issue. I had one suggestion to reset the CMOS - no dice!
I upgraded the bios, drivers etc NO DICE.
Both cards work independently of one another, they're perfect.
The board just no longer allows SLI for some reason.
And no one, not even MSI seem to know why.

  • Msi 6600gt Agp + Win Xp

    Hey guys,
Just brought an msi 6600gt agp and it is awsome...
Having a bit of trouble with the D.O.T software.
It seems that i have enabled it, i try to change the core and memory speeds and
save settings. I log out of xp and log back in to check if the setting have saved
and they have. But, everytime i restart the computer it just goes back to the
    default settings. Is this normal?
The other thing is if i use o/c tools like coolbits, can i still enable d.o.t so that my
card is not clocked when i'm on my desktop surfing?
    Thanks in advance,
    Pooki3

    oops..
sorry i didn't make my self clear. I also unticked the d.o.t  feature and bumped the
core and memory.. saved it and restarted the computer again...
It just goes back to defaults again...
    Anyone got the same issue?

  • Creative Sound Blaster Audigy LS "WINDOWS CANNOT DETECT A SOUNDBLASTER HARDWARE" Issue!!!

<EM>Hi all to cut the long story short I have had my audigy Ls card for a little over an year now, everything worked fine until I have decided to reformat my computer due to regular maintenance and this was roughlly 2 month ago, anyway I have explored all the different avenues and have found my self stranded to this point. </EM>
    <EM></EM>
<EM>Basically</EM> <EM>I have the drivers (from creative official driver downloading page) for the sound card installed and its running fine however not flawless due to the fact that my original CD that came bundled with the card cannot be installed anymore, ever since I have reformatted my PC. windows just couldn't detect my exisiting AUDIGY LS card and keeps error out when the installation starts and states that windows can not detect a sound blaster card in your system etc etc. </EM>
    <EM></EM>
<EM>Now I know for a fact that everything worked fine with the drivers installed correctly without any issue prior to my format. is there any any any any!!! way to actually overcome this nuisance ? Im getting really pissed of as I no longer could enjoy the full benefit of my sound blaster </EM>
    <EM></EM>
<EM>e.g creative media centre, sound equilizer, 6/24bit adjustment. </EM>
<EM>I have switched the card in other PCI slot, it's no use and I have tried and obviously failed to do everything I could to solve this problem. the onboard sound has been disabled.AC97 and I really couldn't figure out why...strange ...</EM>
    <EM></EM>
<EM>I have searched the forum for valuable infomation as I seen a couple of people are suffering the EXACT same issue as I'am. </EM>
    <EM></EM>
<EM>My system spec is as follows.</EM>
    Asus P4P800 Deluxe MOBO
    P4 3G CPU H. T Enabled
    G KINGSTON RAM
    6600GT WINFAST GFX CARD

    Hi All,
I am pretty much in the same boat but with an Audigy 2 Value Sound Card.
Removed some old piece of rubbish card (6MB Aztech PCI 288 Q3D using a Trident 4DWave-NX Chip.... yes about 6 yrs old !) in my daughters pc and replaced it with the new one.
Same error message i.e. hardware not detected... ihave already posted as im trying to find and install the right drivers. I have also tried the PCI-slot hopping etc etc.
    So what next people ?

  • KT880 Slow 2D Performance with Leadtek 6600GT AGP

    Issues:
2D speed is so slow I can see the background color of most websites as the content is "drawn" line by line over top.
Mouse scrolling causes the screen to fragment slightly
The odd time on a cold boot (system off over 10-20 minutes minimum) I get a beep code of 2 long, and 5 to 7 short. I say five to seven as every time it happens it catches me just as I am walking out of the room.
    Fixes Attempted:
Multiple clean installation of W2K using various combination of Leadtek/VIA Hyperion/Nvidia drivers
Different BIOS options selected (Fastwrite on/off, AGP aperature 64/128/256, FSB 1:1)
    Tests Performed:
Memtest 95+ ran it all day while I was at work
    3DMark2005 run multiple times
Vulcan3D run all day while at work
PCPitstop 2D test reports ~42MP/s (compare this to onboard SiS video at work which is 121.85 MP/s)
I have read the information about PSU issues up top, and I am leaning towards trying this next.
    My current rig is:
    MSI KT880 Delta-FSR (VIA 5.04 Hyperion installed)
    Leadtek 6600GT 128MB (78.05 forceware beta installed w/DirectX 9.0C)
    AthlonXP 2800+
    1GB Micron RAM (PC2100)
    30GB IBM (DTLA 307030) + 120GB WD (WD1200JB)
    NEC DVD-RW (ND-2510A)
Soundblaster Live! 5.1 (Most recent drivers)
Onboard Gigabyte LAN (Most recent drivers downloaded from Microsoft Website)
Windows 2000 (Clean installed with SP4 and all critical updates)
    Power supply: Vantec ION 400B (400W / +3.3V 26A / +5V 30A / +12V 16A)
Now I have seen that 18A should be minimum on the 12V rail, but I have some questions about that. What about a dual rail powersupply like the Enermax EG475P? It has +16A on 12V1 and +15 on 12V2 - would that be enough power?
    The other power supply I am looking at is the Vantec ION2 460N which has specs of: 460W / +3.3V 28A / +5V 30A / +12V 30A
Unfortunately due to cost, and local availability these really are my only two options that look like they might fit the bill.
I am really crossing my fingers that a PSU upgrade will solve my 2D issues as I could not get this card to work properly in 3D in an older system. Now it works awesome in 3D, but 2D is so slow I can watch the screen "wipe" in Internet Explorer.

"...I am just wondering could that account for the 2D speed being so slow?..." Question answered in my last post: First..memory. 2nd PSU.
I apologize about seeming like I was ignoring you - I posted at the same time as you, and did not mean to ignore your recommendations. In any case I tried something that fixed it...  and also ends up I may not have had to buy a PSU. Although it will not hurt in resurrecting my old system for a backup computer. In the BIOS for my system there is an option "Vlink 8X Supported". I set this to disabled on a whim because I recall that was what the default was in my BIOS (only changed it because the manual showed it as enabled), and now my system is running 8X faster than it was in 2D. I still plan to upgrade the memory, but from what I can see I will have to do it fast as only one vendor around here is still carrying it when they all had it last week.
I intend to install the new PSU this weekend as I know that earlier this week I did find that as a recommendation for the beep codes I get on startup. I could swear it was on this board that I found that information, but cannot seem to find it using Google at all anymore.
