Obvisously Apple doesn't care about G5 dual-core owners. Can't buy an upgrade video card. Spent $3000.00+ on a system with a graphics card designed for budget PC's. Someone at Apple should fire the engineers that suggested this card in the system. I would of bought the 7800 GT had it been available at time of purchase. What a crock of crap leaving us hanging with no upgrade options. Aperature runs like *** with this card. Apple get off your lazy ***** and do something about this crap. Show us you care.

Apple, Please provide an Uninstall feature in your updates!

After updating to 10.4.4, I can no longer connect to our XServe 10.3.8 server.
I have had other problems with updates as well on other computers.
It would be nice if Apple could borrow a feature from Windows XP that lets users rollback to previous configurations. Or simply provide an uninstaller. Or some easy way of removing the update. Microsoft 1, Apple 0. Not that I like Microsoft, but Apple needs to do something about this.
This has been very annoying having to wait for an update to fix an update.
I have done all of the required permission fixes and this is a brand new G5 so there shouldn't be any corrupted files.

The problem was not with the XServe or Keychain access. It was the update used in the software update service. Since I was going from 10.4.3. to 10.4.4, I didn't think I would need the combo update. Guess I was wrong to download the smaller file. I downloaded and installed the full Combo update and now it is seeing the XServe shared points.
Now back to the uninstall feature: My System X folder is 1GB. Surely that whole folder would not need to be cloned to uninstall a 55MB file. What about creating a temp file the holds only the files changed?
The problem with backups (especially if it is a server) is that new files are constantly created and would be lost if a restore needed to be done. That would be fine for a home user with only one Mac, but how many home users even have a backup system? It would take a long time to backup an 80GB drive to .Mac.
If an option was made available as a checkbox that asks the user..."Do you want to save the current state or configuration?" and then tell how much space it would take up. This file could then be deleted later in the Software update System Preference. Software Update should also have an option to "just download" or "download and install". Right now it immediately installs after downloading. What about an option to automatically download new updates. Install them when you choose. This would save time waiting for the downloads before installing. Again, Microsoft already has this feature.
Another feature I would like to see in the update process is...If repairing permissions needs to be done before installing, why doesn't the installer automatically do this during the install? The general public doesn't know to do this anyway.
I could go on and on about stuff I would like to see in OS X but I think I covered it for this topic.

I have a G3 B&W rev2, 450 MHz, 704 RAM, DVD-ROM system.
I have two hard disks. One the original 6 GB that runs 9.2.2,
the other is a 100 GB second internal hard drive that contains
4 partitions. One with no OS installed, one with a backup of
the 9.2.2 system, one with 10.4.0 and one with 10.4.11.
I am having startup problems with the 10.4.11 partition.
When I start up from this partition, I got the normal start up screen and
the little dial - but then instead of going to the blue screen I got 4 black rectangles
across the top of the screen. I could start up from the 10.4.0 partition, the DVD-ROM,
or my 9.2.2 disk. Disk Utility, run from the DVD-ROM or from the 10.4.0 partition, found no problems with the 10.4.11 disk or disk permissions.
Someone mentioned they thought it was a video card problem, but if it were,
would that only affect one startup disk??
I reinstalled the 10.4.11 update and the problem went away for
a month or so, but now I am having similar start-up issues again. I start up, get the
gray apple and the dial, then I get a big black rectangle in the center of the
screen like the one that shows up when the kernal crashes - but with no
text. Again, I can start from the DVD-ROM, the 10.4.0 partition and the drive
with 9.2.2. Disk Utility doesn't find any problems with the disk.
Any ideas on what is going on? I am planning to reinstall the 10.4.11 update
again.

It's not the video card, or you would have problems with the other OS's on the Mac.
It's hard to say what is causing the problem. Do you use the OS 10.4.11 partition more than the others ? If so, the other OS 10.4 partition may experience the same problem if used more.
Have you added RAM lately ? Added any other hardware ?

Hi, all.
I was waking up my MacPro(Late 2006, Quad 2.66) from screen saver and the screen froze.
and it didn't work at all so I forced shutdown and as I restarted,
The screen shows stripe-like patterns and stop proceedig aster the first apple logo disappeared.
I also tried to start in Safe mode, but it happens in the same way.
No key commands works for shut down or restart.
Anyone knows what causes this problem?
Help/comments would be appricated.

Duplicate Song sol'n w/o losing playlists? Apple please provide feedback.

1. Export playlists to Desktop.
2. Delete all songs from iTunes library.
3. Re-import all songs to iTunes library.
4. Import playlists.
In doing 1-4, I think I can successfully delete all duplicates and maintain my playlists, however, I am hesitant to try it without comfirmation.

You don't specify what kind of duplicates you are trying to get rid of.
If it appears that the same exact file is appearing twice in iTunes, or a copy of the same song file appears twice (e.g. "song.mp3" and "song 1.mp3", then you can use a program I wrote to delete duplicates. Download the zip here:

There are many of us who have upgraded and installed the new version of itunes 7.0. From within the itunes store, if you select either television shows or movies, many of us are getting an error message that states, "itunes is unable to browse album covers on this computer". My question is simple, why is this occurring? Does the new version require more computer power that previous versions? Come on Apple, we know and see you browse these discussions. To be honest, I've never tried what you're doing. However, I
have used xml (most rss feeds are built on xml anyway, right?).
Look into the different xml functions available. Then, once you
figure it out, you can use something like the code below. I'd look
more into the xml in flash if this is what you want. Hope that

Do you have a Cluster configured in weblogic environment?
There could be different reasons, but first thing you may want to check for a WLS cluster is if you have configured the listen address properly, especially when you have Load balancer in between the Admin server machine and the Managed Server machine.
please execute the following steps:
Go into the Weblogic Admin Console
Set the managed server Listen Address to its local IP
Restart the managed server
Retest the issue
Migrate the solution as appropriate to other environments

Apple please provide way to disable Edge but enable WiFi

I am planning a trip outside the US. I have read the posts about people who spend a week abroad and come back to an outrageous AT&T bill because of the international Edge usage charges (sometimes even incidental). I called AT&T and yes they have an international data plan but for a 1 week trip I would have to pay $25/month for a year or pay a huge cancellation fee. Another attempt to gouge their customers. So that is not an option. How can I use the wireless on my phone without using edge?? Airplane mode turns off both. There is no way to enable only wifi. How can I do something as simple as check for messages without edge? How can I safely use just wifi at the hotel or other hotspots? I don't want to have to leave my phone in airplane mode for a week but until apple provides a way to disable edge while enabling wifi I most likely will have to.

MBP bought this October, Video Card issue?

Hello.
I just bought my Macbook Pro about a month or two ago. No complaints so far, except the well-known issue of the keyboard getting very hot when playing games. Usually I put a laptop fan underneath it, so it doesn't get too horrible. Lately, when I start the game World of Warcraft, the screen will sort of freeze up on a distorted image of the beginning screen of the game. Sometimes it is actually a picture of my character in game distorted with lines through it, and then goes to the normal screen. I also have recently been victim of some lag in game. I am not sure if it is entirely because I have put my video settings in game up a tad, or has to do with this freezing issue like in the video.
Should I take it to Apple... call Apple, what?

Also -- another piece of the puzzle I forgot to add. When the game is up, World of Warcraft, I go between windowed mode and full screen. To do this I hit command M -- this is new, but it will flash the screen PURE WHITE before switching between the windowed mode and full screen. And vice versa the other way.

Is this a video card problem on my Equium M40x-230?

I've come to turn on my laptop one morning and I get this nice screen:

Something hardware related is up, im sure of it. Funnily enough I can still use the laptop with a external screen plugged in.

Then it sounds like an internal display failure.
But do you have this issue only on Windows or on BIOS too?
I think you should go to the nearest authorized service provider. The technicians can order a new internal display and exchange it for.
