660ti PE 2GD5/OC VBIOS mod to quiet power on fan

I'm OCD about quiet PCs and I decided to try to mod my video card's BIOS to make it quiet on power up.  I used Kepler Bios Tweaker and set the min and max to both 30%.  I flashed it and rebooted, but it's still spins up to jet fighter levels.
My 660ti has a UEFI GOP driver and I noticed nvflash had an option for updating the UEFI.  Would flashing the modded BIOS with that flag ensure that the fans don't exceed 30%?  Or is KBT not capable of changing the power on fan speed?

I don't think there is a way to prevent the card from going high speed on startup. It has a dust-clearing system, the fans will spin fast to clear the settled dust. But it only does that on startup, it's only for a short while. After that the fan is back to 30% and I doubt you can hear it at all. You can use MSI Afterburner to set a user defined fan control (won't change the highspeed on startup). But I wouldn't recommend messing with lower fan speeds too much. The default fan setup will keep the fan quiet during normal operation. If you don't overclock the max. fanspeed won't go over 45%. At those speeds, you will also hardly hear it.

What model iPad do you have? If it's an iPad 1, the battery may have expired and needs replacement.

With the lid closed in clamshell mode, the lid covers the fans - won't it overheat?

This is useful but the MBA gets a bit hotter due to intake, but if you have the lid open + external screen it gets even hotter due to more for the GPU (processor) to do.
Only way I’ve manage to run only external screen with the lid open is to trick the MBA that the lid is closed with a magnet positioned on the left.
I’d really like a software solution to this though…

  • Accessing recovery mode with no power

Sorry if this has been posted before, but I can't find the answer in the forums.
I know how to enter recovery mode when I have power on my Creative V Plus, but how do I do it without power? I can't charge the player because it automatically enters rebuilding library mode and freezes. I can't enter recovery mode when the player is connected to the PC. Help!

Accessing recovery mode with no power; Your battery will need to be charged in order for you use the the functions in the recovery mode. A wall charger would solve that & you will not need it to be connected to the computer. The wall charger for the Zen Micro,Micro Photo,Zen are ok to use with it.http://cgi.ebay.com/CREATIVE-AC-Wall...em300300546789

You can try Restoring it in iTunes but I believe you will end up needing to have it serviced.

  • Req: GTX 770 TF 2GD5/OC VBIOS

    Hi there.
    I have an MSI GTX 770 (N770 TF 2GD5/OC)
    S/N 602-V282-220B1309046698
I tried to update the VBIOS via MSI Live Update but I had issues, not 100% certain if my VBIOS was updated as it froze/hung but since then I have no display when my PC boots - I can boot into Windows just fine (Win8.0 x64) but I cannot get any display in the BIOS either via DVI or HDMI.
Other thing I notice is that it takes a much longer time to boot, usually from a cold boot to Windows's login screen it would take less than 10 seconds, but now it's much longer, maybe my BIOS is prompting me for something but since I have no display I cannot tell.  Once Windows boots up, all is perfectly fine, though.
I have tried a few different VBIOS flashes for my GTX 770 since then but no joy in getting display in the BIOS.
I have the latest bios for my motherboard, an Asus P8P67-M Pro B3.
Everything is otherwise fine, Windows, gaming etc is all fine apart from no display during boot or BIOS.

Thanks, flashed, shutdown and started up again but no change.  I don't get any display until the Windows 8 login screen.
Is there an older vbios I can try for my card? I'm wondering if it's not related to the UEFI GOP feature the new vbios's offer?
In case you need it, here's an output of nvflash:

  • N660 GAMING 2GD5/OC vBIOS

Hello, I've recently bought an MSI N660 GAMING 2GD5/OC with TwinFrozr IV cooling system. Until now I really thought that the MSI's dust removal technology was really working but it doesn't. Even the various reviews and the shop I bought that card from advertises this feature on this particular card, which made me buy it. To my knoledge this feature is implemented into the card's vbios which dicates the fans to spin in reverse during boot. So let me throw my question in hope I get the required support
Is it possible to have a bios for this card that has this feature enabled? Thank you in advance
My card's info as it appears on the sticker at the rear of the box is as it appears bellow:
    312-V287-055
    N660 GAMING 2GD5/OC
    S/N: 602-V287-35SC1311018505
PCI-E, N660,2G GDDR5, TF IV FAN, OC, DL-DVI-I, DL-DV-D, HDMI, DP, Power Cable, SLI
and my current vBIOS version as it appears in GPU-Z utility is: 80.06.58.00.55 (P2030-0000)

O.K. thank you for your rapid response  .
Also I get that "it can't be activated" is the company's policy on that and/or similar matters and it's not a technical restriction all things considered. I really hope sometime in the future this feature will be finally implemented one or the other way because I really believe that there is no serious reason to exclude a really nice feature like this from a mainstream card series.

  • BGX 660Ti PE 2GD5/OC crash issue

    Hello,
I just build a new PC with the components that you can see in my signature and I am getting black screen or blue screen after I install the latest Nvidia drivers 306.23.
1- I installed Windows 7 with no problem.
    2- Installed Chipset/LAN/Audio card drivers
3- Connect to internet still no problem (spend couple hours browsing)
4- Installed Nvidia 306.23 then reboot
    5- I can boot in safe-mode though
    Symptoms:
    1- Some times i can't even pass Windows 7 splash screen (auto-reboot)
2- When i reach Windows 7 I get a bunch of multiple color squares on the screen for a few seconds then black screen
2a ) sometimes Windows 7 recovers but i get those colored squares again after a few seconds (10 to 30 seconds)
2b ) at other times i will get a blue screen then the system auto-reboot.
    So far i have:
1- Unplug the power cable for at least 20 seconds before powering up the PC but I still get the problem
2- I also have fall back to previous version of the drivers 306.02 but i get the same issue.
    Any advise?
    Chris

    Hi,
i already put the video card of my other computer in my new PC (BFGTech GTX260) since Sunday and I rebooted several times and run the whole day of Sunday without issues.
I have put this morning the MSI video card in my old PC:
    Board: ASUS P5Q 775 P45 ICH10R RT
    Bios:
    VGA:   MSI N660ti PE 2GD5/OC
    PSU:   Antec 650W (19A @ 12V)
    Intel C2Q Q9550 2.83 775 12M
    MEM: Kingston 2Gx2|KST KVR800D2N5K2/4G R
    HDD: Seagate 500GB 32M SATA2
    COOLER: None
    OC:
OS: Windows Vista 32 bits Home
It manage to boot once properly, on second reboot I had the same instability as before.
I remove the driver installed with Driver fusion and install 306.02 and the same problems occur again.
As for administrator permission, my latest attempts to install drivers was done by right-click and selecting the 'Run as Administrator' if it is what you are referring to, it didn't help.
Previously, Windows UAC always asked me if i really wanted to run the installer and during the installer i have allow Nvidia drivers to be installed.

It is attached. After downloading the archive first uninstall the Nvidia driver (!) then simply decompress the archive and then execute the included batch file (185.bat) in Windows by double clicking or via command prompt (must be run as administrator).
Ok thanks for replay any relese notes?

  • UEFI GOP for NGTX660 2GD5 TwinFrozr3 vBIOS

Hi, a couple of weeks ago I contacted MSI for helping me activating UEFI GOP by flashing some vBIOS that is not on their website.
But the problem is that my Asrock Z77 Extreme 4 still says to me that UEFI GOP or CSM disable is not supported (when I activate "Ultra Fast boot" of course)
So can somebody provide me a vBIOS which support such a function ?
My vBIOS is here (remove the dots please) : h.t.t.p.://www.mediafire.com/?a15pj435qbbli55
    Thanks in advance !
Btw, I found other post using the same GPU that provides a custom vBIOS, but I was too scared to flash them because of possible incompatibility (So the possible chance of corrupting my GPU's VBIOS)

It works perfectly ! Thank you very much !
