661FM2-LSR cannot reboot, only shutdown.

I have buy this mother board, 661FM-LSR (601-7060-020), for make a small linux server. But there is a problem.
I have setup Linux, but when i do "reboot" or "shutdown -r now" the system not reboot, free on "restarting system". Shutdown work correctly.
I have try many distro, and many kernel, but without any result. The BIOS is the latest. I think the problem is the APIC, but if i disable it in the bios the result is the same.
What can i do?
Thanks

I have test with power management on and off in BIOS and in Linux
but the problem persists.

    Hello,
Can somebody help me out? With kernel version 3.18xxx everything works fine... Does that mean that i have to downgrade my kernel???

  • [SOLVED] XFCE cannot Reboot/Shutdown

I just performed a system update and removed consolekit as it is now deprecated from the repos in favor of systemd. As a result, XFCE cannot reboot or shutdown. The menu options for reboot and shutdown both exist. However, once I click on either options, I get booted back to my login manager (slim). Any suggestions to look at?

It fail to initialize the iDRAC

hi, can any one please advise what should I do for my server? Dell poweredge T630 cannot reboot after trying to add new memory card. Even I remove the newly added memory card and only keep the original one there, it still cannot reboot. Before I try to add the memory card, it works well without any rebooting issues.

  • Random reboots and shutdowns related to video hardware

I've been having a problem since switching to Arch in which my laptop will suddenly reboot or shutdown for no apparent reason. It happens most often when:
An OpenGL game or screensaver is running.
I try to start an application with optirun or primusrun (Bumblebee).
So it definitely seems to be video-related. I have an HP Pavilion dv7t Quad Edition laptop with NVIDIA Optimus. The primary video chipset is Intel HD 4000 and secondary is NVIDIA GT 650M. But I don't think Bumblebee is to blame because it sometimes happens when I'm not using the secondary card. Nothing is written to the journal, probably because it happens so quickly. Any ideas?

I think I was dealing with two different problems because the reboots/shutdowns no longer occur when starting a program with optirun or primusrun. So that was probably fixed by a Bumblebee/driver update.
HOWEVER, I still get the problem when using the HD 4000 video chipset to do something intensive. I think it's overheating because when it reboots, the fans spin up to full speed for a while and I occassionally see a kernel message related to temperature exceeding threshold. But prior to the reboot the fans never kick up to full speed unless I'm using Bumblebee, so something is preventing the fan from cooling off the laptop properly when only Intel graphics are in use. I tried following the instruction in the Fan Speed Control wiki, but I don't see fan RPMs in the output of sensors and I don't see my chipset listed in /etc/sensors3.conf. The output of sensors looks like this:
    coretemp-isa-0000
    Adapter: ISA adapter
    Physical id 0: +48.0°C (high = +87.0°C, crit = +105.0°C)
    Core 0: +45.0°C (high = +87.0°C, crit = +105.0°C)
    Core 1: +47.0°C (high = +87.0°C, crit = +105.0°C)
    Core 2: +42.0°C (high = +87.0°C, crit = +105.0°C)
    Core 3: +36.0°C (high = +87.0°C, crit = +105.0°C)
    pkg-temp-0-virtual-0
    Adapter: Virtual device
    temp1: +47.0°C
    acpitz-virtual-0
    Adapter: Virtual device
    temp1: +44.0°C (crit = +120.0°C)
    temp2: +30.0°C (crit = +120.0°C)
I also tried adding pcie_aspm=force and the parameters described in this Phoronix article to the kernel boot line, but they didn't make a difference. Any help greatly appreciated.

  • How to run a script automatically just before Reboot or Shutdown

    Hello all,
Could someone tell me what folder or what entries to be made if I want an event to take place before the machine actually start the reboot/shutdown process.  For instants, i usually mount my USB flash drive but sometime I forget to umount it, which will cause a dirty file system when restarting the machine.  Would anyone have an example to get me going.  It's just like when rc.conf will do added things for you during start-up if special code/script was inserted.
There are other things I like to do before the machine reboot or shutdown, like, to run a very small scripts to automatically kill a certain process "first", before the rest and before rebooting.  I'm sure I can write the code but I don't know where it goes.
    Thanks in advance
PS: Thanks fsckd, Your explanation of SKIP/SEEK for dd has never been explained so well in any documentation, or on ANY web-site I ever been to in 6 months pass.  Now I know how it really works and i'm getting it down to a science.  I did not use it for what my thread indicate because in the end the other suggestions were better, but still I Thank God I finally know how to use SKIP/SEEK in dd.  dd is my most use tool for what I do.

There something new every day to learn with this OS.  Just when you get one thing right here's comes another. I guest it took 20 years to build LINUX and I read the kernel has something like 10 - 30 million lines of code or better.  Some how I lost the better link that went much deeper.  30 million lines of code mean billions of documentation to read.  But you still got to find the right one first.  So I guest we read and still have to ask questions just to get to the good parts, and than ...

    Thanks again
Arch should already automatically unmount your USB drive. If it isn't unmounted, that's a bug and ought to be filed at http://bugs.archlinux.org

I have encountered this problem with my first IPAD2 and brought it back to the Apple Store.  They gave me a new one and I used it for a few weeks and my MIC was not working so I decided to try and install the update.  I hard wired my laptop this time and again I had the same error.  The IPAD2 froze so I went back to the Apple Store and they tried to fix the problem.  They could not.  So they are going to give me another new one.  I asked them what the problem could be and they said it was my computer and I should select the download and not the download and install. But to be honest I do not remember I had that option.  When I get my new one, I will see if I get the option to select how I  update my IPAD.   I also saw  a message on this site that suggested closing all security programs before attempting to updat the software.  I did ask the apple rep when I returned my IPAD today if the security programs would interfer with the update.  They said no, but I will try anything to get the update to work.  If you find an answer let me know

  • IMAC Powers Down by itself, When it reboots only the Spot Light visable

    Hi,
Hope someone can help, we have two Imac 20' G5 2ghz with 1.5gb Ram. Both system are crashing with the same problem.
The IMAC Powers Down by itself, and when it reboots only the Spot Light Field is viable, Only way to recover it is to rebuild OS. Sent the System back, and Both Logic board and Hardrive were replaced, and the day system crashed again did they same thing. We also have 2 Imac 20' G5 Isight Models working in the same envioroment and are not experiencing any problems with those systems. Any Ideas?

Sounds to me like you may have bad power supply units. I know of several people who had Rev B machines that were covered by THIS repair program.
Even though it says rev A machines are covered. It seems like some that were made early in the switch still used some of the components that were fingered out as not functioning properly. I would check your serial number.
Either way, give AppleCare a call, you should still be covered. And if you had some things replaced, like you said, let them know its doing same thing. Its for this reason that I have a hunch you are getting those old MBs that were having issues. Its more than the Power supply I sispect. Since you cant run it normally when it does power up, seems to me you may have several issues going wrong at the same time.
    Hope you get it fixed.

  • Cannot reboot?

Running 2.6.39.3-1 and I can't reboot my HP nx6110 laptop as it just hangs at restarting, normal shutdown/halt/poweroff works fine but not reboot or shutdown -r now. I've even tried kernel line options like reboot=b/h.
