  • Acquiring remote server access

    I have recently switched to Mac and need to setup a remote login to one of my PC based servers. In the past on PC I have used Remote Desktop Control. Is there a similar app for Mac and please give me as many details as possible.

    Sure EW, That's precisely what VNC DOES (and others... but..):
    They give you complete control of the target computer... you can 'VNC in', start a long process running, drop the VNC link and it'll all keep happening, 'drop in' to check from time to time... etc.
    {You can even run VNC on the 'slave'. I did this once with a client PC & Mac Network 600 miles away - ran VNC To his A, started VNC ON A and controlled B, started VNC ON B and controlled C, then from C to D, D to E and so on... up to about 6 computers (jest for fun If yr a masochist you can also start VNC ON A and control B, then start VNC ON B and control A.... but you'll find that the ensuing loop rapidly fills both screens with new updating Windows and presumably will do so until you run out of memory or similar and crash. I don't know, I've always simply closed the A connection after about 20 windows. I was VERY impressed with the 'sturdiness' of the implementation (Chicken of the VNC)}
    Just grab Chicken (Squark!!) and give it a whirl - it's very easy. (got to remember firewalls, routers, security stuff, of course and allow access. Test it 'locally' and don't bother with the ssh stuff.
    best of luck.

  • [solved] Owncloud over SSL: http works, but over https only apache

    Hello,
    I try to setup owncloud with SSL.
    Accessing over http works, but over https, I reach the default apache page instead of the owncloud page.
    (I set up SSL according to https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/LAMP#SSL )
    How could I make the owncloud site available over https?

    OK, solved.
    What I made wrong:
    https://localhost leads to the apache page
    https://localhost/owncloud leads to the owncloud page.
    (Just as an information if there are other apache noobs like me...)

  • Simple RMI over HTTP in MIDP1.0 - open source project

    Hi All,
    For anyone interested in doing remote method calls (over HTTP) to a server from a MIDP 1.0 MIDlet there is an open source project now available for this. Please see MeRMI (Micro Edition RMI) at:
    http://mermi.dev.java.net
    You can use this to create a remote server class, much like you would in RMI. MeRMI then generates classes to do the remote communications for you. So you can just make nice, simple Java calls from your MIDlet, without having to worry about how the calls are passed to the server, etc. It's all pretty easy to use (especially if you have used RMI before) and takes a lot of the hard work out of building network applications.
    The toolkit is completely free (LGPL) and open source, you can use the code and do what you want with it.
    Hope it comes in useful to someone!

    Note: MeRMI does not support callbacks, but an event mechanism using blocking, polling requests can be used to create server to client messaging.

    It sounds interesting. It is only for MIDP 1.0?, what about MIDP 2.0?

  • Can I install WSUS alongside Windows Essentials Experience Role without killing IIS & Remote web access?

    Can I install WSUS alongside Windows Essentials Experience Role without killing IIS & Remote web access?
    I have recently installed Windows Server 2012 Essentials R2, but I want to use WSUS on the same server.  Is this possible, if so how?  Last time I tried this I lost my Remote Web Access.
    I did post this in the Windows server 2012 essentials thread but didn't get any replies so thought I'd try posting it here to see if I got any hits here?
    Is there a way to get WSUS to install to different web ports i.e. 880 & 8443?  Or can I get it to install in a new site in IIS?  Its just I know that the Essentials Experience role sets up RWA in IIS and installing the WSUS on top just overwrites
    the RWA site & settings?  I assume this is also why Remote Desktop Services does the same?
    Thanks

    Can I install WSUS alongside Windows Essentials Experience Role without killing IIS & Remote web access?
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/sbs/archive/2013/06/25/how-to-install-wsus-3-0-sp2-on-windows-server-2012-essentials.aspx
    Last time I tried this I lost my Remote Web Access.
    Remote Web Access uses the Default Web Site. If you install WSUS to the Default Web Site, it will break things. Install WSUS to the alternate "WSUS Administration" site on port 8530.
    Is there a way to get WSUS to install to different web ports i.e. 880 & 8443?
    No.
    Or can I get it to install in a new site in IIS?
    Just select the option during the installer to do that.

    Thanks. I just reinstall the software and did not have issue. Maybe the issue was caused since I was trying to configure Weblogic running on Window 2003 as admin server and Linux as my remote server.
    Here is how I got it to work. I reinstalled software on the Linux box and used Linux box as my primary server with admin console running on that and window 2003 as my remote node.
    Thanks for you help. I appreciate it

  • Safari will not play mp4 over HTTPS

    Hello,
    I have a file, sample.html, which contains only the following code:
    <html> <body>
    <video width="600" autoplay loop poster="placeholder.jpg">
    <source src="sample.mp4" />
    </video>
    </body> </html>
    The mp4 file referenced is the one downloaded from here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1425
    When I use Safari to access my page via http://myserver.com/sample.html the video plays without problem.
    When I use Safari to access my page via https://myserver.com/sample.html only the placeholder image is displayed.
    Using Safari 7.0.6 on Mac OS X 10.9.4
    I have used http://www.sslshopper.com/ssl-checker.html to check that SSL is correctly configured for my domain and it reports no problems.
    How can I make the video play in Safari when accessed over https?
    Thanks in advance,
    Andy

    If you are having problems playing MPEG4 video in Quicktime 7.4 (and Apple are aware that some users have had such problems) you should carefully check in
    /Library/Quicktime and
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins and
    Home/Library/Quicktime
    to check whether you have any third party plug-ins that are not completely up to date.
    Current versions of Flip4Mac and DiVX and Perian do NOT cause failure alone or in combination. However the one SPECIFIC extension that ALWAYS causes the failure alone or in groups is 3ivxMediaImp. All other 3ivx extensions DO work. Remove only that ONE SPECIFIC extension.
    Please try this and see if it fixes your problem with QT Player, the QT Firefox Plugin, and iTunes not playing MPEG4 files (including mp4 files).
    Older 3ivx and DivX components are often incompatible with new QuickTime versions and are, in many cases, obviated by component packs like Perian.
    This is not the only explanation for issues with MPEG4 file playback in QuickTime 7.4 and later, however. The issue with videos from democracynow.org and others, for instance, is the result of that content not complying with MPEG4 standards (namely that they use bogus track dimensions). QuickTime had previously ignored invalid track dimensions but this was changed in order to support properly authored anamorphic content.
    The recent update to QT 7.4.1 has fixed a number of issues but some problems are unavoidable when working with non-standards compliant content. The standards are important for many reasons including keeping hackers from manipulating improperly coded web pages.
    However, there is a workaround (also the basis for why those files will still play in iTunes): there are a few ways to trick QuickTime into ignoring the invalid track data. For instance, rename the files .3GP and they'll show up just fine.
    Post back if you want a list of the plug-ins you should have in order to play pretty much anything in Quicktime.

  • Windows Home Server 2011, How to Turn off Remote Web Access for Dashboard completely?

    I have a Dell Server at my House and i thought it would be a good idea to use it to run a website on so, i set up Apache and get it installed. But then every time I type http://localhost/ it would always Come up with the remote web access! So i thought
    ok no problem you can disable that in Dashboard. Well i was wrong when i typed http://loacalhost/ it came up with the Proceed Anyways option but sent me to a Big
    Bad GateWay. So what im trying to get at is i need to Fully Disbale that Remote Web access or Set a specific Port so it does not interfere with port 80. So does any one know how to fix this or get rid of this issue?

    This one may help.

  • Ftp and http access over XDB repository is not allowed...

    When I try to execute the following command on a reasonably fresh Oracle 11 installation:
    insert into "XMLTEST" ( "name", "xmlfof" ) values ( 'small', DBMS_XDB.GETCONTENTXMLTYPE('/public/small.xml') );
    -- The schema is correctly registered, the file "small.xml" is in the /public repository folder, the user has every conceivable role and priviledge
    -- http access works fine from a remote location, tried to execute the command on the server and from remote system...
    I get the following error message:
    ORA-31020: Der Vorgang ist nicht zulässig, Ursache: For security reasons, ftp and http access over XDB repository is not allowed on server side ORA-06512: in "XDB.DBMS_XDB", Zeile 1915
    Searching for an answer on the forum didn't produce any concreate explanation... Does anyone have any idea how to solve this problem?

    As it turns out, the XML file contained a reference to a DTD at an external web-site, which caused the problem - it was identical to that described here:
    Re: ORA-31020 when using XML with external DTD or entities
    After removing the reference, everything works perfectly...

  • Problems setting up Remote Web Access in Windows Storage Server 2008 R2

    We just bought a WD Sentinel DX4000 Storage Server and went through the Remote Web Access wizard.  It setup the router just fine but when we got to the setup your domain name we have been having
    headaches ever since.  We chose the option to use our own domain name, which we have registered through GoDaddy.  It then showed that yes, our provider was GoDaddy but then it told us we needed to update our service with GoDaddy so we clicked the
    "Go to GoDaddy.com" button and it sent us to a page to purchase an SSL certificate.  So, we did that but then had issues with it not being able to be managed in our GoDaddy account.  So, I went into the domain name with GoDaddy and purchased
    a certificate there and got it setup on the domain name with GoDaddy.
    The problem is that when I try to go through the wizard again to set up the domain name I still have to click the goDaddy button to move to the next page where I type my domain name, username, and password
    with GoDaddy.  I setup the remote extension in the A records with GoDaddy as remote.mydomain.com, and put in my username and password with GoDaddy.  After I click next it tries to connect to the domain name service provider but then gives me the
    following error message over and over:
    The domain name was not set up for your server.  Wait a few minutes and run the wizard again.
    An unexpected or unknown problem occurred.  Please wait a few minutes, and then try again.
    Well, I have tried this several times and am about to start pulling my hair out.  Can anyone please tell me what I may be doing wrong?
    Thanks for any help you may be able to provide.

  • 500 Internal server error on RPC over HTTP using TS Gateway

    I've been happily using TS Gateway on Windows Server 2008 x64 for 18 months and everything was working perfectly. Suddenly this week it started giving "access denied" errors to any user who tried to connect, evidenced in event viewer as a failed login attempt.
    After restarting the server, it got worse in that if I browse to the /rpc folder it gives me 500 Internal server error and I don't even get as far as authenticating credentials. I've tried removing IIS, RPC over HTTP and TS Gateway, and re-adding all of them,
    but I still get the same error 500. The RPC and TS Gateway services are both running. What could be causing this and how can I fix it?

    Hi,
    Thanks for your post.
    Firstly, check the following KB article to troubleshoot this issue.
    This computer can't connect to the remote computer because the Terminal Services Gateway server is temporarily unavailable
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;969743
    If the issue still persists, you may perform the below steps:
    Uninstalled TSGateway, IIS role, all IIS related components.
    Delete all files in the folder %windir%\system32\inetsrv\config
    Delete all files in the folder %windir%\system32\inetsrv\metaback
    Restart the server and try to re-install TSGateway again

    Thank you very much for this. I confirm it fixed the problem, although there was an error in reinstalling IIS and TS Gateway until I also removed Windows Process Activation Service.

  • Is it possible to access the http web interface over the fa1 management interface?

    Hello All,
        I am remotely connected into a Cat 4500 + Supervisor V module via console cable and point to point connection from laptop to fa1 management interface on SupV.  SupV module is running IOS 15.0(2)SG8.
        I am not able to physically change the patch cable from fa1 management interface to gi2/3 or any other switch port for a couple days and would like to see if it is possible to access the http server through this fa1 port since I am working remotely.  I can ping the laptop from fa1 and tftp ok but cannot access the http/https server.  Is this even possible without connecting the laptop into a regular switch port like gi 2/3 gi 2/4 etc..?  The reason I ask is I would like to use Cisco Networking Assistant gui for some things but need access to https server first over the fa1 link.
    Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • Remoting over HTTPS

    Is it even possible to use RemoteObjects over SSL?
    I am attempting to access a remote server (not my localhost
    as all the tutorials assume). It absolutely, positively, must use
    SSL.
    The .NET developer creating the back-end has installed WebOrb
    to allow AMF - however, it's still not working.
    Can someone please point me toward a tutorial that actually
    works? Or can you tell me if what we are attempting is even
    possible?

    Kindly check the action tag of your form. It can have the following 2 to operate correctly: -
    1. action = "/page.jsp";
    2. action="https://mysite:443/page.jsp";
    Check for https carefully if you are using 2nd option. This could be the probable reason that the following error, as mentioned by you: -
    When submiting I get a message box "that I'll be redirect over a non secure conection" and my jsp url look someting like this:
    http://mysite:443/page.jsp.
    I suppose you are using some public key encryption for communicatiing using SSL. It is generally achieved using self signed certificate or 3rd party certificated from some trusted certification authority. Most of the java web servers provide you options to generate a self signed certificate.
    The second error comes since the page has been redirected to HTTP but the port is 443, which by default is where HTTPS listens. Since the port 443 listens for HTTPS requests it is giving the following error: -
    "Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand.Reason: You're speaking plain HTTP to an SSL-enabled server port.Instead use the HTTPS scheme to access this URL, please."
    So the second error is the consequence of the first error.
    Hope this helps

    I am working through a tutorial book, "Dreamweaver 8 with ASP, Cold Fusion and PHP Training from the Source", but the instructions are unclear concerning the procedures to connect to a MS ACCESS database located on a remote server.
    The book indicates that the server administration has to create the DSN for you and screen shots indicate that you will result in a list of DSNs to choose from when creating the connections .asp file.
    I went through the procedures to create a connections .asp and resulting in a connection without and tables (of course) because I do not initially have any connection information from my remote site.
    I have generated the required two lines of code as follows for my MS ACCESS database connection on my remote server:
    'Database connection info and provider
    strCon="Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source="&_
    Server.MapPath("database\trans.mdb") & ";" &_
    "User ID=xxx;Password=xxxxx"
    The question that I have is:
    How does this connection coding relate to the "connections/conn_newland.asp" file that was create within the Dreamweaver screens?  How do I merge the ASP coding?  The file (/connections/conn_newland.asp) generated within Dreamweaver is as follows:
    <%
    'FileName="Connection_odbc_conn_dsn.htm"
    'Type="ADO"
    'DesignationType="ADO"
    'HTTP="true"
    'Catelog=" "
    'Schema
    Dim MM_conn_newland_STRING
    MM_conn_newland_STRINT = "dsn=newland;"
    %>
    Any advice would be appreciated.  I know that this is simple but debugging an error from an  ASP coding merge would be a "bear" to debug!

    I have not used MS Access myself (fortunately) but I believe it works much like the old, old way of achieving a multi-user database in FileMaker.
    That is, it is not a true client-server database but more a peer-to-peer database and that each peer opens the same database file which is available to multiple user via file sharing. Therefore as elikness said it should just be a matter of putting the files on your Lion Server and then sharing that folder/volume using SMB sharing.
    However one thing to be aware of, since MS Access is not a true client-server database I would imagine it uses record locking to manage simultaneous direct access to records in the same files. File or Record locking is something that has historically been a bit flakey when using Windows clients with a Mac file server (and probably vice versa).
    While I am not proposing it as a solution to consider seriously, it is worth you knowing that FileMaker Pro is a database system that is available for both Mac and Windows and depending on how you configure things can be considered to stretch from a configuration very similar to MS Access at the low end all the way to a high-end MS SQL Server style setup at the top end. See http://www.filemaker.com for details.
    There is also a a third-party tool available for migrating databases to or from FileMaker Pro and it can convert MS Access databases to FileMaker Pro see http://www.fmpromigrator.com/
    You could use FileMaker Pro just on Windows machines if you wish.
