6680 update - backup/restore fails

Hi,
after updating firmware from 2.x to 4.x with Nokia software, I cannot restore my old backup correctly.
After restore with ContentCopy, the screen does not show the menu entries and the systems settings cannot be called.
Any help appreciated!
Thanks, Oliver

  • Backup Restore Failed After iOS5 Upgrade

I did the iOS5 install on my iphone 4 yesterday and it went off perfectly.  However, this evening, I did the same on my wife's iphone 4.  Prior to doing the download, I did a Backup and a Restore Purchases. When the process came to the Restore point, I received the error message that the restore from backup had failed. Each time we plugged the phone back into itunes, it prompted us to complete the restore process but with the same message. Consequently, my wife's phone lost all contacts, photos, and apps. I manually re-entered her contacts, plugged back into itunes, and performed another backup. We then attempted to restore from backup once again with the failure message following. I'm almost sure that we cannot recover her photos, but if anyone on the forum has a suggestion, we'd appreciate it. Also, what is the safest and most surefire way to backup photos and contacts on the iphone 4 ?  JEFF

My husband updated my phone on the 15th... same identical thing happened. I've lost all photos, text messages, and contacts since the las backup. It did download 5.0, but I lost everything. I spent 2.5 hours on the phone with an apple advisor and they needed to research it further and would call me back......hasn't happened yet. If they find a way, I will post it. What error message did you receive... mine was (-50).

  • Backup Restoration fails on MSSQL2005(SP2) on windows 2003 IA64 in ECC6.0

    Hi ,
Iam trying to resore backup of my MSSQL2005 server from a Ultrium 3 tape drive but it's getting failed. Iam able to take the backup sucessfully and Iam able to see the content on the tape0 from SQLStudio Manager. When I try to restore the problem coming, OS is 2003 IA64 and SAP is ECC6.0.
Following error occurs on a pop up.
An exception occured while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch.
             Additional information.
Timeout expired. The time out period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.
So we have increased the time out with the command SET LOCK_TIMEOUT 3600; but still no use, we are getting the same error.
I have raised a OSS Mesage but the gentlemen expect the error in SQL 2005 Studio Manager, He say's it's not supporting 64 bit OS. So he suggested to install a 32 bit OS and access the 64 bit database. So I have tried the same , I am able to take backup and view the content on tape. When I try to restore it's giving SQL 3201 error. But this error doc. from Microsoft is not giving any exact reason and it's not maching my case.
    Thanks &Regards,
    Hari.

    Dear Hari,
I also faced same problem and till i did not find solution.
To resolve this issue we did the restore through command line option.
If i will get the solution through management studio i will update it here.

    Nikunj Thaker.

My 3gs wont restore after ios 5 update. I have tried firmware restore and restore from backup, neither works. All I get is "iphone restore failed because backup session failed" Any ideas on how to make a successful restore with this ios 5 update?

I was having the same problem, I backed up my phone and then updated to iOS 5 and then it kept telling me it could not restore from my backup as it had failed.  After reading a bunch of forums and posts and trying everything, I did manage to get it to work.  I had tried the Time zone, creating a new computer user account, disabling anti-virus, etc.
It took a combination of things, one of which was disabling the anti-virus completely and copying the contents of the backup folder to my desktop and then deleting everything in the backup folder.  Then I rebooted the PC, entirely disabled the anti-virus, copied the one backup I wanted to restore from the desktop to the backup folder and then trying to restore.  Low and behold the phone said restoring from backup and I am back in business, so when in doubt, trying combining some of the fixes together.

  • HT1212 I am unable to get our of a continuous cycle when trying to update or restore my iPad 2. Plug in to iTunes 12.0.1 (latest version). Click update, told can't update, have to restore. Restore fails with error 9. Any help appreciated.

When I tried to update my iPad I got an error 9. Now, I am unable to access my iPad. It is in a continuous cycle when I try to update or restore the iPad 2. Plug in to iTunes 12.0.1 (latest version). Click update, told can't update, have to restore. Restore fails with error 9. Any help appreciated.
    Here's the cycle:
I plug in my iPad when “cable to iTunes shows on iPad screen. It says "Your iPad can't be updated, you must restore it to factory settings." That bad enough news, but it gets worse.
    Click Restore
    Extracting software…
    Preparing iPad for restore
    Waiting for iPad…
    Verifying iPad restore with Apple…
(empty bar under the Apple logo…does not show any activity)
“The iPad “iPad” could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (9).”
Notes: I just upgraded to OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 on my iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011) in the last week. It’s the first time I’m tried to backup/update my iPad since the iMac update.
I swapped out the USB cable to a new cable and get the same results.
I also unplugged all other USB devices from the iMac and security on my iPad and still get the same results.
I find it strange that it shows no Serial number for my my iPad 2 when plugged in. It shows “Serial Number: n/a on the screen when it displays: “iPad Recovery Mode To update your iPad without erasing its contents, click Update. To restore your iPad to its factory settings, click Restore iPad.
I prefer to update my iPad, but it displays “Your iPad can’t be updated, you must restore it to factory settings. If you previously backed up the iPad, click Restore Backup after the restore process completes.”
It’s a continuous loop. I get the display on my iPad to plug in the iPad to iTunes, plug it in which ends after going through the above procedure saying an error occurred (9).
So now I cannot use my iPad. When I turn it on I get the display showing me to plug it into iTunes with the cable. Since this is the only option I have I plug it in and the loop begins.
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hello jaybearden,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like you are not able to restore the iOS device since you get an error 9. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

  • Can't restore my iPhone 3GS (w/iOS5); backup session failed.

I'm practically at wits end, here.
For two days I've been trying to restore my iPhone 3GS and so far, nothing.
The problem happened after I downloaded and updated my iPhone with iOS5.  When I tried to restore it from one of three back-ups that I had, I ran into
that error (-50).  Managed to get passed that and tried again.  When I did, I get the message saying "iTunes could not restore the iPhone ****** because the backup session failed."
It doesn't just do this for my most recent back up; it does this for ALL of my back-ups.  Is there any kind of fix out sure-fix for this (barring getting a new phone)?!  I think I've tried several strats that I've seen in other threads and nothing has worked.
(btw, the comp that I'm using primarily is Windows Vista)

*update* GOOD NEWS, EVERYONE!  Turns out that I was able to restore my phone from a back up, after two days at it!
Unfortunately, the back up was from a year ago!  At this point in time, I'm just glad to have my contacts back, though I feel that now would be be best to make sure I keep backing up my phone to make sure this doesn't happen again o.O

  • IOS 7 update backup won't restore

So my iPhone 4s will not restore my backup to iOS7, I am getting the message your backup was corrupt or is not compatible with the iPhone that is beinng restored.
The issue I experienced getting to this point:
    - Backups completed twice fine
    - Downloaded update to PC fine
    - Phone dropped out while restoring iOS 7 to it
    - In the "connect to itunes" mode the phone comes up in after failure I applied the update again and it worked fine (removed additional USB devices from PC)
    - Chose the backup I wanted to restore to it (backup from the latest iOS6 version for iPhone 4s)
    - Restore fails due to "iTunes could not restore the iPhone "*phone name*" because the backup was corrupt or is not compatible with the iPhone that is beinng restored"
I have rolled back to 6.1.3 to restore my backup but I am getting the same error. I have moved the latest backup on my PC from AppData and am trying with an older backup getting the same error.
I cannot afford to not be able to restore my backup as I have favourites data in TomTom that I need and a lot of apps that I am going to loose data from. I need help to resolve.
There has never been any issues with backing up my phone (I have backups done over WiFi and USB) so there should be no reason why my backups would be corrupt. If my backup is corrupt and iTunes hasn't verified it and warned me prior to a restore, **** is going to hit the fan.
Could the fact that I have attempted to restore the backups to iOS 7 caused the corruption and not not able to restore on iOS 6?

It was taking so long to back up to icloud (prob bec it was my first time to back up to it) that I cancelled it. I rebooted my 4s, then on my computer, I deleted the back up created that day, rebooted my computer, then reconnected my 4s to itunes. Did another full back up. After that I connected my 5s to itunes then let it sync. I then did a restore to the back up I just created. Luckily it worked this time. Not perfect, it did not transfer over the music, videos, tones, and not all apps from my 4s appeared on the 5s, however, the most important thing to me at that point was to get all the Notes I had in my 4s into my 5s and all the saved stuff on the homescreen. The music and other stuff I just dragged from my iTunes library into the 5s.
Maybe it would have been better if I restored the 5s to factory settings then did the restore from back up. I've been an iphone user since the original one and this is the most frustrating time I've has transferring stuff over from the old phone. Would it have anything to do with AT&T new policy to activate it at the store? Previously, I walked away with the phone still wrapped and set it up from scratch at home and had no problems. Oh well...
I must say after that, I am happy with the 5s so far, super fast, the camera is better than the 4s. Still playing around with it. I am not into all the technical stuff so if some people are, they might find some not so great stuff about it, but to each his own.
If somebody else can figure out a better way to do the transfer, hopefully, they'll post it here. Good luck, hopefully your issues get resolved soon!

  • Restoring from Backup-"backup session failed"

    Hello, everyone.
I recently upgraded to iOS 4.1, and now I can't restore my iPod from a backup.
When I attempt to, I get the error message:
"iTunes cannot restore "The Awesome iPod of Pure Awesomeness" because the backup session failed."
Yes, that's what I named my iPod.
After searching a bit, I couldn't find any threads in this forum or results from Google about how to resolve this. Could anyone here help me?
EDIT: To clarify, restoring from backup worked in all previous iOS versions.

As for the battery problem, if your ipod touch/iphone has multitasking capabilities, try holding down the home button for four seconds, finding the Game Center icon in the list of currently running background apps, then stopping the "Game Center" process in the background by tapping the minus sign at the top left of the icon. But I'm also annoyed at this firmware update.

Thanks for your reply Michalo. I am in India and here Apple care does not work on Sundays. I have been without my phone for the entire day. Perhaps tomorrow will bring some respite. There is not solution to "error (-1)" on any forum it seems. I found one forum which suggested use of Tiny Umbrella. Any idea about that?

  • Updated to OS5, restoration failed with error -50.

I updated the phone to OS5. Restoration failed with an error -50.
I lost all my contacts, email setup, photos and other configuration.
How do I get back my contacts?

    same thing happenned to me.
IOS5 installed fine, but the restore failed.
Eventually, I just logged in as if it was a new phone. iTunes remembered my apps, but all the data is still gone.
And then it backed up on me.
I'm on a winxp box, and I had gone into C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Apple Computer
and I copied it to another location. So perhaps, if they get this fixed, I can recover the items from this old location.
but, to be honest, I have lost a whole day messing with this, and I am very annoyed.
