6714 Ver 1 BIOS issue : will not boot OS

Hi ya,
I'm wondering if there's a way to force the flash program to replace the BIOS even though it detects it as a different / incorrect version ?
Just having an interesting problem with an old(ish) MSI 6714 motherboard.
The system was installed and working fine on a users desk, however we replaced the 6714 machine with a newer one and were going to re-format 6714 system, re-install the OS and use it to replace another users system.
During the OS installation (Windows 2K SP3 corp media), after the first re-boot the system will blue screen with an error similar to IRQ_NOT_EQUAL_TO or something to that effect.
No matter how we installed the system it kept dying at the same point.
I tried ghosting a copy of the OS onto the HDD, however it gets to the initial 'Windows 2K press F8' part, the loading line flicks across, and then it hangs.
The machine always POSTS and always allows entry to the BIOS.
A strange thing is though, if you change the 'USB Mouse Support' option from Disabled to Enabled then the system POSTS as normal but dies before it even brings up the 'Windows 2K press F8' section.
Looking at the BIOS though I think this system has been installed with an 845GEM Bios, when it may have needed the 845GVM Bios instead .. as the board has no AGP slot.
I've found some other people in the Forum's who have encountered a similar issue, but none of the links in the replies have worked.
The current BIOS on the sustem is the 2003/05/07 845GEM v1.2 BIOS (4Mb)
There isn't an updated version of this BIOS, and this was the BIOS version that was on the system before I started messing around with it (I tried over-writting it again but it does the same thing when booting the OS).
To be honest I think I encountered the same problem when I first got the system, but I somehow got it working by ghosting a copy of the OS onto the system. That may have just been pure luck though .. as nothing I've tried has gotten this system to work.
Specs are :
AOpen H340D case
MSI 6714 Ver:1 (BIOS 845GEM v1.2 2003/05/07)
256Mb DDR266 (tested with MEMtest without error)
WD 300B/400B drives (we've tried a few)
Also tried it with a PCI graphics card to no effect.
All capaciters are flat and look in good condition.
All cables have been checked and changed.
Thanks    ???

Thanks Greyone, but I think I found the problem.
In answer to your Q though, the chip in front of where the AGP slot should be has a sticker on it saying 845GV ICH4.
System was made up by one of our venders. But I'm not sure if they could have been the culprit for the incorrect BIOS though as they would have had to have forced the BIOS onto the system since it returns a BIOS-Lock error if you try the GEM Bios on a GVM system and vice versa.
I downloaded the MSI-6714 845GVM v4.2 bios and flashed it with the /f switch, and it seems to be running ok.
Windows 2K had to find all the hardware again (and required the driver files for the GFX card), but it does now seem to be running and stable (that is if you can call something stable thats only been running for 45 minutes thus-far )
Hope this post can help out anyone else who comes across this issue though.
Thanks

  • Bios Download failed, corrupting bios; machine will not boot up

My unit -Lonovo 3000 K100 57068352; Vista OS.
on 10/12/09 I downloaded Bios; 2skg33a; released by Mar coGU; Release date 2009, 2, 27; based on Bios 2skg31a.  The download went smooth, and reported everything completed.  I rebooted the machine, and it will boot until the OS reaches the beginning of the start page, then recycles to the start.
I have done a complete recovery of my system and this doesn't help.  It does the same thing.  I believe the Bios are corrupted and is not part of the Hard Disk system.
I need to be able to download the original Bios for this machine.
Can anyone help?  My machine is not usable without a correct Bios.
    Thanks for any help.

Did u download the correct one? I checked this page and found there are 2 different bios available for different bios ID.
Flash BIOS update (BIOS ID: 2SKG)
Flash BIOS update (BIOS ID: 2SKT)
Also, i saw the release date is 2009-03-25, and the download link showed the text as 2SJG33A and not the one with K. Where did u download actually?
Btw, U have to check ur bios ID before installing the correct ones. Follow the description in the page for steps to check the ID.

  • Bios recovery - Computer will not boot up

I have a HP Pavilion HPE H8-1145-SC, my bios will not boot.
I was wondering if there are any ways of changing the jumper setting on the motherboard ( IPISB-CH2) to fix this issue if so how do I do it? or are there any other types of recoveries that I can do.
I have searched the forum for answers and tried some such as taking the battery out and putting it back in but it hasn't worked.

You could not get a boot menu when using a boot disk, any messages on the black screen at the bottom?   Could you do me a fav and take a pic of that black screen and post it. I think... not sure yet but this can be your memory.
I would ask for you to preform a memory test using memtest86 but if one disk does not boot this may not either. But still worth a try.  If you burn a memtest86 disk and reboot see if it boots into the memory,  if not the issue is memory most likely.  Do you know how many GB of ram you have installed?
Do you feel like you can opening your case and removing memory dimms? If you have a bad one this may stop it from booting. I hope the memtest86 works cause it would detect that.  Windows 7 can boot on 2 GB. If you have  say 6Gb than each dimm would be 2GB taking out one at a time keeping one in and see if it boots.
    http://www.memtest.org/#downiso
In the window about the first list download the zip Iso and burn it to a CD
    ** Memtest86+ V5.01 (27/09/2013)**
    pre-compiled bootable binary (.zip)
If you feel that this would not work I suggest taking your system to a PC repair shop and have them test the memory.

  • BIOS update, then will not boot from any drive

This old laptop, 3000 C200 8922 was acting very clunky when on wireless.
Downloaded Bios Version 63ET62WW and flashed it into the bios.
Now, even though I can get to the bios screen, and it shows the hard drive, DVD/CD drive, it will NOT boot from either.
It will also "see" a usb installed, but will not boot from it.
I have removed all power and cleared the CMOS several times and I still have nothing. Tried two different hdd's which have been in the machine and same results.
HELP!! I should have never messed with it......

    hi k4pew,
One rule after a BIOS update is to Load optimize deafults after updating.
Try that go inside BIOS Hit F9 to load defaults then F10 to Save and Exit.
    If not
Try turning on the computer and start hitting F1 to load the Recovery Menu and see if that will push then Try Reseting the PC.
If still the same Im afraid that the BIOS needs to be reflashed.
Im not aware of any flash tool or a your Previous BIOS Version Firmware available for download.
You can try calling Lenovo Technical Support for any options available for repair.
Im sorry to hear what happened

  • X240 will not boot after latest bios update

I bought windows 8 .1 machine from factory. Then I had local shop install 8.1 on larger ssd. I just performed latest bios update and now machine will not boot. I am sure this is uefi related but I am not knowledgable in that area. The boot parameter returned to me by the shop was "legacy only" and secure boot was disabled.

Since doing the BIOS update are the settings still as you noted above?  You also didn't mention which SSD is now installed in the system.
Just as an aside, installing Windows 8.1 in legacy mode isn't exactly optimal.  Were there any particular reasons for this? Just being curious.

Obviously since you have iOS 7 you're a developer.  As a developer, you signed a NDA with Apple not to discuss the iOS on a public forum.  Please log in to the Developer Forum using your credentials and ask for help there, lest you risk having your credentials terminated.

I agree w/Jerry and have had similar experience albeit with different software (I use Acronis True Image) but same concept.

  • Satellite Pro L300 will not boot after Bios update

    Help please.
I have just formated a Satellite Pro L300 laptop.
I used all the updated drivers from Toshiba and all went very well.
I then updated the bios with the latest version.
After doing this the laptop will not boot but just keeps scrolling through the start menu and no matter what option I choose it just keeps doing the same thing.
    Any ides welcome

    Hi
I used the Microsoft installation disk but just keep getting to the same stage until the blue screen appears. I have tried different installation disks and also changed the hard drives as well. I can do everything in bios, change boot device enable or disable devices but that is it. I have tried a few times to instal windows but it just stops at the same point saying windows is stopping instal to protect the system. I fear the bios update has done some permanent damage as I cant get past the dreaded blue screen. Thanks anyway

  • IMac modell 8.1. will not boot, screen issues

    Hi!
My iMac 24" modell 8.1. (IC2D - 2,8 GHz) will not boot from install disc OS X 10.6. When I turn the machin on I hear the sound ok, then the grey screen appear with the black apple logo and the spinning wheel starts up. Then nothing happens. I hear that the superdrive is spinning up with the install disc, but nothing happens on the screen.
The screen has much flickering/distortion, so I removed the LCD display and checked all the three cables between screen and logic board to see that they are secured.
I have installed an 2 TB HD in this iMac formatted in Mac OS X extended journaled. The 4 LED lights on the bottom of the logic board are on and green. Remember back with my PM G5 that I had to push a cuda button, is there any such button on this iMac?
    Any suggestions?

No, you want to run DU from whatever version is on the boot volume. The original version it shipped with was 10.5, but if it's now 10.6, he wants to use a 10.6 disc to repair with.
For the video symptoms, I would run the Hardware Test, in extended from the 10.5 disc, if it will boot to that.

And Roam's suggestion to try a Safe Boot is a must.
EDIT: Permissions Repair should be done -- and I don't think this is appropriate to do now, anyway -- from the normal boot volume, not from the DVD. And, certainly not from the original disc.

    Build Date 11/26/2007
    Problem:
After being shut off for more than 2 hours my computer will not boot up on the 1st try. It goes to a message that says"Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key". I shut it down using the power button, wait for the hard drives to stop spinning, and then hit the power again and it starts up just fine. It will restart just fine also as many time as I want to restart it, after it has been running in windows. Once it is running, it runs terrific, no problems at all.
If you go right into the bios after sitting for a while you see this in the boot sequence, notice there is no hard drives(Nvidia Stripe)in the boot sequence.
After shutting it down and starting right back up this is what you see in the boot sequence. This pic is from a different time, thats why the boot sequence is different.
Here is a short youtube video (2:10 sec) made to help show the problem. (I called it a Cold boot Storage problem for another thread) just ignore that.
Things I have done to try to solve the problem:
    1. Update the bios
2.I have moved the boot sequence around, Foppy1st, or CD 1st, ect. and even disabled the [USB:HP Photosm] in the boot sequence, Hard Drives are 1st now.
3.Replaced the Mobo Battery thinking that it was not remembering the boot sequence
4.Checked that the Hard Drives are connected to the correct plugs (6-7) on the motherboard, and that the raid connector JP1 was shorted out for Raid 0 and the blue indicator light was flashing.
    * Just a note in this area. I did set up the Raid 0 with a tech from MSI because I was having an issue with the initial set up, and I did use the Nvidia raid drivers that came with the motherboard.                Pchas01 in another thread thought that this could be part of the issue because it is not necessary to load the drivers when you set up the Motherboard in the Raid mode.
F10 and look in the Raid Array
    5. Pulled the jumper off of JP1 and it just went to the "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key" screen much faster, but would never boot up after 5 tries. Put the jumper back in and started up on the 2nd try like the normal problem.
6.Went into the On-Chip ATA devices in the bios and Changed the Raid Mode to an IDE, I cannot F10 and get into the Raid Array now, but I guess that is normal.
Now this is what my boot sequence currently looks like.
That is the point that I am right now. It runs great, games are awesome on it. Its just does not want to start up on the 1st attempt.
Thanks for any help on this
    Chris aka Fritzpeed novice builder

    Thanks for the reply,
I started with the easy fixes first, changed the sata cables, and tried different power supply connectors. Both tests had same results, still boots up on 2nd try. I did not know how soon the problem would re-occur after it has been shut down, my shortest time so far is 25 minutes.
    Quote
Why only one RAID channel is enabled? Array can't be detected in that way...
Well right now, it is not even set up that way, in my #6 problem solving, it was suggested that I turn the Raid Mode off and try [IDE] to see if that made a difference,"because I don't need Raid enabled for the hardware raid". It did not, it only booted to the "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key" window about 60 seconds faster. It is currently set up in this way.
This is how it looks in my On-Chip ATA Devices
    How do I check this?
    Quote
Does the problem persist when you use Silicon RAID instead Nvidia RAID?
I am still working on getting the seagate diagnostics to work, I am getting an error message before I can even test them.
I do have another question. Why is my HP Printer showing up in the Hard drive test, and also why is it showing up in my boot sequence, is this normal?
And speaking of boot sequences I got in there again just now and saw 2 [USB:HP Photosm]
Thanks again, still working on testing hard drives.

  • T61 will not boot with nvidia quadro 140m driver

    Hi all,
A couple of weeks ago, after allowing MS update to install some FTDI driver updates, my system will not boot up and hangs shortly after the initial vista loading screen. The screen goes black with some HD activity and eventually reboots. After trying a couple of restore points with no luck, I started to remove the latest driver updates and other software to my system again with no luck.
If I uninstall the nvidia driver and use the Standard VGA driver, it will boot and come up properly. I've done a bunch of web searches and searches on this site and can't find my exact circumstances. Its hard to believe that it could be a  hardware issue since it started after a software update, but since it hasn't been a problem for anyone else, I'm just not sure at this point.
I've tried earlier versions of the nvidia driver, removing other drivers and services trying to find a coincidence, but nothing seems to work. I'm kind of at a loss at this point. Does anyone have some suggestions?
    Thanks in advance,
    Dave

    More info on my system:

Also, does anyone know if using the Standard VGA Display driver without problems on this system means that the video card hardware is working? In other words, I'm trying to rule out a hardware problem with my nvidia quadro 140m card, so if the system works fine with the standard vga driver, would that mean the hardware on the card is ok?
    Thanks,
    Dave
