6910p upgraded to 8.1 no extended display with RGB or S Video

I upgraded my 6910p to windows 8.1 from Vista, however I cannot get the display to "extend" using an RGB cable and external monitor nor using S video and an HDTV.  I have a "Generic PnP monitor" and "Microsoft basic display adapter."
What can i do to fix?  I guess video card needs upgraded?  Is that even possible?

  • Extended display with my MacBook?

Can I use an extended display with my MacBook?
I bought the "Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter" and hooked it up to a standard Dell monitor. When I try to set up the extended monitor in System preferences/hardware/displays, I do not see the expected "arrange multiple display" option and when I search for extended displays, I get a message that says:
"The Arrangement tab of Displays preferences is hidden because you only have a single display attached to this computer."

    Hello GDoyle2604,
I would recommend this article named Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1573.
I feel this would be the best advice for you.

  • How do I Get Extended display with another monitor?

I connected my iMac to another LCD Display, and i'd like to get both monitors to be extended displays instead of mirror displays. Basically Both monitors are showing the same image, but i would like to have both monitors be extended and not share the same screen, for the main reason of working with Logic Music, and i need more visual space to work with.
My question... How can i do that?
I went to the help, and the help menu said..
1.)Open System Preferences and click Displays.
2.)Click Arrangement and follow the onscreen instructions.
But i don't see Arrangement on my displays window.

    Hi,
    GOT IT !
Hope this helps someone in future....
The Popup Key LOV (Displays description, returns key value), and probably other Popups, automatically create a hidden field for the return value.
My field was P7_CONTACT so htmldb creates a hidden item P7_CONTACT_HIDDENVALUE
    P7_CONTACT.value equals the display text.
    P7_CONTACT_HIDDENVALUE.value equals the ID value.
So, I can access the returned Display name by:
    html_GetElement('P7_CONTACT').value
    Done deal...
    Thanks, Bill :>)

  • Using an extended display with a Mac Book Pro

I have a new Mac Book Pro, which I am using with a larger monitor as an extended display. I would like to have the larger monitor be the main display instead of the laptop. But, I can't figure out how to do that. Does anyone know how to do this or if it can even be done at all.

    KGS 75,
Open System Preferences>Displays. When you have an external display connected, you will have an extra pane showing a graphic representation of the display geometry. To change the geomoetry, drag the icon for the external monitor to your desired position (above, below, right, left).
Your "main" display is determined by where the menu bar is located. The menu bar is also represented in the geometry pane, shown at the top of one of the display icons. Simply drag this icon from one display to another.

  • Extending display with second monitor

I am trying to add a second monitor to expand my desktop area. I routinely do this with my G5 laptop by simply plugging in a second monitor, clicking on DISPLAY in SYSTEM PREFS, clicking ARRANGEMENT, and clicking off MIRROR DISPLAYS.
With the iMAC G5 ARRANGEMENT does not appear as an option and default seems to be mirror. Any way to make this work?

This is an update to my previous post. I searched on Google about this problem and found an answer -- an old Macworld article:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/39969/2004/10/imacscreenspanning.html
It describes a freeware program called Screen Spanning Doctor. I printed out the page and followed the instructions. It worked! I now have a Samsung SyncMaster 930B set at 1280 x 1024 and my iMac G5 set at 1440 x 900 (maximums for both) and They are not mirrored; the Samsung monitor extends the desktop of my iMac G5. I couldn't be happier.
Just in case Screen Spanning Doctor does not work for you, be sure to print out this Apple support document, Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379?viewlocale=en_US
You can never be too careful. I believe what this will do is undo whatever changes Screen Spanning Doctor does. Per the Readme:
"This program is intended to unlock some features of the graphics hardware in some Macs (iBook, iMac, eMac but not for all models - you can find a complete list at my website http://macparts.de/ibook). On supported Macs it will allow the use of an extended desktop where usually only mirrored mode is available. This enables you to use an external display to extend your workspace. It will also unlock additional resolutions for the external display making it possible to driver high-resolution screens. This is especially nice if you want to use an LCD panel that has a higher native resolution than the 1024*768 of the internal display. After you apply the patch you should see an additional tab in the displays prYou will only see this tab if you have at least the monitor adapter plugged in."
Good luck! (I'm going to make a donation to macparts.de, which created this program. I figure it's worth $19 -- what I paid for the VGA display adapter at the Apple Store.

  • Imac extended display with win 7

    Hi,
I currently own an imac 27" and i'm looking for an option to have both mac os and win 7 running simultaneously. Is this possible? Instead of using bootcamp, i was thinking of using a virtualized copy of win 7 and have it extended onto a second 27" display.
If anyone has a similar setup, could you pls share your experience?

That's pretty simple, you only need to get either Parallels or Fusion, both are virtualization apps designed to allow you to run Windows (or other OS's) from within OS X. Both applications do the same thing, one isn't better than the other. Some people prefer Parallel's some prefer Fusion. You can find information on both at:

  • TS3977 Issue with extended display using Displaylink USB to DVI since upgrading to Mavericks.

I have an issue now since upgrading to Mavericks with my extended display monitor using a displaylink DVI to USB adapter. After awhile, the monitor goes blank. I can unplug the connection from the USB port and plug it back in and the display comes back, only to go out again a short time later.
It worked fine for months prior to the upgrade.
Apple say it's Dispalylink's problem and Displaylink says it's Apple's problem. Anyone else having this or a similar isssue?

Someone opened a bug report with Apple in another thread - about a different product that used DisplayLink drivers, and Apple blamed the vendor.
I have many issues too. Crashing Window Manager, and once it crashed my Mac.
I also have many issues... one is corrupt display. The icons are missing in the menubar on my laptop, and squished together on my external monitor:
They are there if I mouse over, but invisible.
I can't click on the squished ones, they are to close.

  • Extended display does not work after downgrading to XP

    Hi
I have downgraded from VISTA to XP
Before the downgrade extended display (19 LCD connected via docking) it was working OK
after the upgrade, it stopped working
I installed the latest video drivers from the LENOVO website, and tried playing with the FN+F7 but no luck.
It seems that there is some communication with the screen, as the screen looks as if it is working, but the entire screen is black!
when i look in the screen properties, it seems as if the extended screen is working, but again the screen is black.
    any ideas?
    thanks

  • HT5019 How do I get extended display mode on two monitors off a MB?

I've tried to find answers on other threads but no luck. Is it possible to connect two monitors to a 2008 unibody MB (mavericks) to use extended display? I've never had a problem with using one monitor (mini dvi to vga) as an extended display and now I'd like to add a second monitor via a vga splitter. I thought upgrading to mavericks would solve this but no luck. It's only letting me mirror displays. The "arrangement" option in display prefs not available.  Any help would be greatly appreciated. I never for one second thought this would be so complicated.

Exactly what Bob Levine said. Can confirm, running a two monitor display here.

  • T440s Extended Display Toggle

My work recently "upgraded" me from an x220 to a t440s.  Based on the trackpad alone, I question whether this is really an upgrade, but there are plenty of other threads for that discussion it appears.
My question, which I cannot seem to find an answer to, is this: How do I get two different programs to show on my notebook screen and my attached external display?  On my old x220, I'd use fn-F7 to "extend display", which appears to be the same as on the new unit; but once I've done that, I can't figure out how to assign different programs to the two screens.  On the x220, it was just fn-space ... is there an equivalent on the t440s?
Thanks in advance for any help, sorry if this is covered elsewhere, I honestly searched for a while.

    Hi Gwfr1g4t,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I’m sorry to hear that you are facing the issue with Dual Display on ThinkPad T440s.
In ThinkPad T440s you have to use the key Fn+F7 to switch the display, or you can also use Windows key+P to toggle the display and check.
    Hope this helps.

  • Problems with InDesign CC 2014 tool palettes on an extended display

We have a Mac in our group set up with an extended display. With Indesign CC and before, we were able to move our InDesign tool palettes to the extended display, giving us a full view of our work on the main display. Now with the new upgrade to Indesign CC 2014, when using the tool palettes, the commands open on the main workspace display and the palettes will not collapse into each other unless you move them to the main display first. Can anyone offer help?

Ask in the ID forum and provide proper technical information like what Mac, what OSX, what display.

  • How to create a 'parallel' extended display through Apple TV Airplay

    Dear all,
I'm a relatively new Mac user and have not been able to find an answer to my question by looking up key words in Google or here, so apologies if this has been answered before.
Basically, I would like to know how I can project a video file or a film/TV series I am watching (for example, a video playing in VLC or a film streaming from my subscription to Amazon Prime Instant Video website, open in a browser) onto my Toshiba TV, via Apple TV airplay - whilst still being able to work on a separate window/desktop on my MacBook Air.
As a PC user slowly converting to Mac, I know how to do this on a PC by using the Windows logo key +P shortcut, choosing 'Extend' instead of 'Duplicate' and then dragging whatever video source I want to watch into the extended desktop screen being projected on my TV. I've tried doing this on the Mac by
using the multiple desktops in Mission Control (with no success, as Airplay obviously just mirrors what I'm doing on my screen onto the TV, i.e. switching from desktop to desktop as I do on the computer), or
by clicking 'Extend Desktop' instead of the automatic 'Mirror Built-in Display' on the Airplay icon on the menu bar and then dragging the browser into the extended display on the TV and hitting the 'Full screen' button of the video itself. However, as soon as I do this and click or type anything on my computer desktop, the video automatically minimizes and all I'm left with on the TV display is the browser with the initial smaller version of the film playing within it. In the 'View' tab, I've tried switching Firefox/Safari to 'Full screen' before making the video 'Full screen' too, but again, as soon as I touch anything back on my Mac desktop it minimizes. I've noticed Chrome has an 'Enter Presentation Mode' option available in the 'View' tab, which leaves the video playing full screen, but with a grey bar at the top (which is visually annoying, but still closer to what I'm looking for). Similarly, if I try to drag a video file playing in VLC, as soon as I hit the full screen button, the desktop I'm using on the Mac goes black even though I can still move the cursor on it.
I'm clearly missing a step somewhere, so any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm a prolific multitasker!

    Hi _MicMacs_,
It sounds like you've been on the right track in trying to sort out this issue. I'm a bit unclear on what you are describing when you say it works initially, but then immediately reverts when you click back on something in your primary display. You may want to try sizing the window to the display instead of using the full screen option (two opposing diagonal arrows), though this will leave the window border around the screen. For a bit more background on working with multiple displays in Mavericks, you may find the following article helpful:

Xcode 4.x cannot be installed on Snow Leopard.  You need a 3.x.  So if that is what you used then yes, you need to install lion.   If connect.apple.com still alows registration or logins using an existing appleid then you could download the last xcode 3.2.6 for free.

  • Airplay mirroring on Mac Mini (late 2012) doesn't work, extended display does...

Airplay mirroring on Mac Mini (late 2012) doesn't work, extended display does... What's going wrong here?
    Details: OS X Yosemite 10.10
Apple TV 3rd generation, version 7.0
Switching Airplay on on Mac Mini works. It goes automatically on extended display mode. Switching to mirroring works for about 1 sec and then it switches back to extended display mode. On my tv screen i see my second desktop. Funny detail: it has the desktop background i used previously. Another funny detail: I had exactly the same problem when i used the previous versions of OS X and the Apple TV software...
    Who can help, please!

I also have been having problems with Airplay on my 2014 Mac Mini see Mac Mini 2014 Airplay Display Disconnect Bug?
I"ve also noticed that my Apple TV (3rd Gen) does not appear in the iTunes Airplay list on my Mac Mini whereas it does on my MacBook.
I've booked a call with Apple Support for next Sunday to discuss the issue.
If I get any useful info I will pass it on.
