694D-Pro v1.0 and dual PIII 1GHz

Hi all.
I have a MSI 694D-Pro with 2 x PIII 1GHz that I have enormous problems with.
Both CPU's are marked as follows:
Intel 01 Costa Rica
1000/256/133/1.75V
3254A384-0651
PIII SL52R
The only difference is that where the first CPU has 3254A384-0651, the second has 3254A384-0653.
The motherboard works fine with one CPU, but refuses to boot with both.
I did a quick test where I used one of the 1GHz as first CPU and installed a PIII 800MHz as second, and after some failed attempts it actually booted, saying that both CPU's were running at 1GHz. However, I would naturally like to get the two 1GHz running together.
Can anyone verify that I should be able to use these CPU's, and if so, what I should do to make it work?

You can, with a little tweaking, force a 800MHz CPU to act as a 1GHz, but it is not recommended. I totally understand that I cant run one CPU at 1GHz and the other at 800MHz, but that was never my intention.
I used the 800MHz as merely a test, and surprisingly, it worked. That is one of the reasons Im so puzzled by this.  The system actually managed to boot with a combination of CPU's that should not work, but with two CPU's perfectly suited for this purpose, it just refuses to even post!
PS.
Im sure the avatar in your post was meant as a friendly joke, but I do not appreciate to be called stupid. Especially not when it concerns computers, which happens to be my area of expertise.

  • Digi 001 and dual g4 1ghz

I'm trying to change my system over from a quicksilver 733mhz to a dual 1ghz machine. While running pro tools on the dual machine I keep getting a dae error -6045 anyone have any knowledge about this? I'm running pro tools 6.4 as I don't know if 6.9 will work with digi 001
    thanx

Well, you would probably have more luck going on the Digidesign forum...
My experiences with DAE errors and Protools usually have to do with the installation. Did you install Protools LE 6.4 as a clean copy or did you copy it from another computer? Also, installing a clean copy of Protools off of the disk installs drivers for the Digi or Mbox to function...if you didn't go through the full installation process then your Digi won't work. You can't just plug it in...Protools LE requires that you have a Digidesign Protools Interface (Such as an Mbox or Digi) +in order to even run Protools+. If the Digi 001 isn't correctly installed, that would probably explain your error messages.
Also what OS are you running? And I am pretty sure 6.9 will work with the digi 001, since I know Protools 7 supports all Digi and Mbox interfaces. I've got protools 7 so I can't give you specific information just off the top of my head... If you have a copy of 6.9 then try installing it and see if it works. After the installation the Digi 001 and Protools should be fully operational.
After reading your post again, are you trying to copy all of your info off of your original HD on the 733 over to the dual 1 Ghz machine? If that's the case then that would explain the problem...you must install a clean version of Protools LE in order to install the drivers for the Digi 001. Without the Digi, protools won't run.

  • Need help with 694D Pro (MS-6321 ver 1.0)

Hi there, I'm having problems with my 694D Pro, I have installed 2x Piii 1Ghz at 133 x 7,5 (auto-detect). RedHat 8.0 smp mode doesn't boot, but hangs during boot, single cpu boot works, Mandrake 9.0 boots with 1 cpu in smp mode, Windows XP only shows 1 cpu in the taskmanager graphs, 2 are listed in device manager, what is wrong?
I'm not able to boot in smp mode in Lunix...

Some comments.  For Windows XP Pro to work correctly with SMP, you need to make sure to install it (XP) after both processors are in place.  If you do not, it will install a single-processor kernel.  Other than that, I have no clue why it would only use one processor.
As for Redhat/Linux, the default kernel that they provide has problems with the promise raid controller on this board.  I would suggest getting someone to compile a custom kernel for you and using that.  It makes it a pain to install as you can't just boot into their install CD, but it is very possible (I've done it too many times ).
If Mandrake 9.0 works, (haven't tried that one) then install with that, then build your own custom kernel.  Then you'll have both processors up and running.
As far as kernel configuration goes, make sure you disable APM and ACPI (yes!), enable Promise PDC20265 support and, if you like, software raid support.  I think both of these are marked EXPERIMENTAL, although both are very stable on my system.  Finally, of course, enable SMP
    Good luck.

  • 694D Pro compatible with PIII 1GHz ???

    have a 694D Pro Ver 1.0  (MS6321) Board.
CPU Support page on the Website says  PIII 1GHz is OK.
BUT the table shows it has a 100 MHz FSB which is WRONG!   The SLOT1  PIII 1G has a 100 MHZ FSB.  The Socket370  PIII 1G has a 133 FSB.
The manual indicates the board is compatible with 133 Mhz FSB processors.  The CPU Support page seems to indicate that all the Tualatin series processors are not compatible.  It appears that all processors with 133 FSB which have a speed > 1 Ghz are all Tualatins and are not compatible.  Is that because of the 133 FSB or something else about the Tualatin series?   Will the 1G Coppermine work because it is not Tualatin even though it has a 133 FSB?
My real concern is will the PIII 1GHz 133 MHz FSB work on this board?  Is this the fastest CPU that will run (reliably) on this board?
dazed and confused    (THANKS FOR YOUR HELP! ) )

Both Slot1 and FCPGA PIII's were available at both 1.0Ghz/133 and 1.0GHz/100. link
A Coppermine PIII 1.0GHz/133 (or two of them that are identical) will work on the 694D.
Tulatin's use 1.5V and have a different BUS specification and pin assignment than Coppermine so a Tulatin won't even post on the 694D.

  • 694D Pro-AR Dual PIII 1,0 AGP probs?

    Hi,
also running WinFast 250 ultra -ti 4600 GF4
When i enables AGP fastwrites in BIOS my system hangs, AGP4 is already enabled but the VGA Card only runs at AGP2x.
I have updated my BIOS to the latest, and running the latest VIA 4in1
How can i get it to run in AGP4x??
Any help is appriceated, thank you
    -Chris

I have just received my 694D Pro-AR from RMA.  Once I reinstalled all my hardware, now I can't run my ATI All-In-Wonder RADEON in AGP4X and my DVD is choppy (even with my DVD running in Ultra DMA mode).
Also, I can't perform Digital Audio Extraction anymore.
I've reformatted/reinstalled everything anew with all the latest firmware/bios/drivers possible.
Everything was fine before I received my new board (which had blown capacitors on it).
    My system also has:
    2 PIII 800, 512MB SDRAM
    RAID 0 with 2 45 GB harddrives
    ATI All in Wonder RADEON
    Creative SB Live! Platinum 5.1
    Pioneer 16X DVD (105S)
    Plextor Plexwriter 12/10/32A
    etc...
I suspect there may be a something wrong with the new VIA drivers perhaps?

  • 694D Pro Dual CPU Support

    HI Guys,
I'm hoping someone can help me with this.
    I have 2 MSI 694D Pro Mainboards. each running 1 x 866Mhz P3 CPU's
    I have tried upgrading to 2 x 1GHz FC-PGA in each system.
Each system will boot with 1 1Ghz Cpu Installed, but when 2 CPU's are installed the system freezes on Post test.
I have applied Bios Ver 1.9 as the one's after this state 694D Pro AR and AIR.
    Please help if poss.
    Thanx

Well I don't know what's going on then, cos it is definately a 733.
During the boot the display showed PIII 1000Mhz, 2 CPUS and on the post bios results table it showed all the normal Ide devices etc but also depicted the Cpu's as being 1000Mhz/733Mhz.
So it definately picked it up correctly.
I must have a Gremlin in the system somewhere, all I can say is that I now have 1 Dual P3 1Ghz working fine with Windows XP Pro.
I'll let you know on the second system, I will flash the Bios with the same as the other board V3.2 before doing anything else.
    Regards,
    Nadeem . . . .

  • Msi 694D pro and newer Graphics Cards

    Hello.
    I have a MSI 694D pro MB with 2x P3@1Ghz, 1.5Gb ram (2x512(pc133) + 2x256(pc133), a raid stripe of 2x120Gb WD hdds and a 400W PS running Win2k SP4.
    Problem:
I had an Matrox G400 w 32 MB ram and I bought a new GF 6200 card since now even tbs games are 3d and the matrox couldn't keep up.
The GF 6200 is agp 8x but it sais it works well on 4x.
When installed, windows will freeze at startup unless i deactivate "enable agp 4x" from bios, in which case everything works fine except i have NO 3D hardware acceleration...  Wich sucks since it makes the gf 6200 a rather expensive 2D Virge lookalike with 128mb ram...
I tested the gf 6200 on a different system and works fine, even on a agp 4x only board (a kt333 msi).
I also put in a radeon 9600 pro borrowed from someone and the results are the same... Win freezes on startup
After some investigations i found out it crashes upon loading "viaagp*.sys"
I tried the latest availeble via drivers and noting...
Does anyone have any ideea what to do about it?
Thanks alot for any possible information.

Well it's old... it was taken from the server along with the mobo...
It is a very solid design and quiet, even after years of work.
Should I buy a new PS?
To get a complete picture of how much power it is used in my box:
     msi 964D pro MB
     2xP3@1Ghz
     1.5 Gb ram - 2x512Mb + 2x256Mb (pc133)
     2x120Gb WD stripe
     two maxtor 120Gb standalone drives
     - all 4 hdds have add-on coolers
     1 x LG dvd-rw
     gf 6200 graphics card
     audigy2 zs audio card
     intel pro gigabit lan card
     usb2/firewire controller card
     1x system fan
... i guess this covers it, but... how come it works when i disable agp 4x mode in bios?
does the graphics card "power down" parts of the gpu?

  • Problem with mac pro 2x2.93 GHZ Dual Core and Mini Display Port

Finally I see the button to create new post!
I would like to explain a problem I have with my mac pro 2x2.93 GHZ Dual Core Intel Xeon processors and the ATI Radeon HD 4870.
I have two 30 "Apple. After buying the new Mac Pro is one of the two monitors, only with the monitor all black, small horizontal lines.
This happens only to the monitor connected to the mini display port... So if you reverse it monitors the problem always moves on the board connected to the Mini Display Port.
Apple has already changed my video card and the adapter but the problem is still there.
Someone can tell me if it is the ATI Radeon HD 4870 that has problems to have two monitors 30 "? Or it could be that the mini display port that is hard to read the two monitors and when the background is black (RGB-255-255-255) makes these lines?
Through the Apple store I then bought a new card (EVGA GeForce GTX 285 "). Unfortunately, after three weeks of waiting is not yet arrived. Proof that I want to do before returning to telephone assistance is whether on a card that has two dual-link DVI ports normal all goes well.
Sorry for the repetition of messages, but my English is very bad. This is the first time I connect to this site support

In any case, this system does not support two 30".
I honestly don't think the 4870 with that adapter can support two 30". Just using the adapter itself would not give me the normal resolutions on my 30, where as the DVI port did. Luckily for me the adapter worked fine on my 20".
Truly I don't know why Apple would sell a card and not say just what displays it can power.
So I worked around my problem fine but I chose to get the 285 also. My question to you though is, did Apple make you pay for it? Was it part of a deal with them because the Radeon didn't work? You might want to talk to them about that. That is one expensive card.

  • 694D Pro - Dual turned single?

    Hi,
I've got a strange problem: my mb (ms-6321) can't complete the diagnostic test. It gets up to stage 6 (0110) and starts all over. I tried removing some memory / changing memory slots - same problem. I tried removing a few cards - same problem. Last, I tried removing the secondary processor - and it worked. I switched processors in the main socket (to make sure it wasn't the secondary processor's fault) - and it worked again. So, I seem to have a problem with both processors installed. This machine has served me flawlessly for 4 years, and only lately, following some renovations in my study that generated lots of dust, this problem occured.  I also tried disassembling the machine, dusting all the parts and re-assembling. Nothing.
    Can this problem be fixed?
    Sincerely,
    Erez Hadad

    BTW: my configuration:
    MS-6321 (694D Pro) + BIOS v1.9
    512MB ECC memory
    HD WD 80GB/7200RPM/8MB buffer
    Graphics: Voodoo 5 5500
    1394 adapter
    CDROMx52, Floppy, Keyboard (PS/2), mouse (PS/2).

    Hi Wonkanoby,
First, thank you for your time. Second, How do you search for something like that? I have no experience in microelectronics and the board looks fine - no fluids or stains. Got any further hints?
    Sincerely,

  • Dual CPU prob w/ MSI 694D Pro-AIR v1.0 (MS-6321)

I am having some difficulties with my MSI 694D Pro-AIR V1.0 (MS-6321). It will only boot up when one processor is installed (in CPU1 Socket).  Both CPU's work in CPU1, when only one processor is installed.  I haven't powered up the machine in over a year, but everything worked fine then.  I have tried different video cards, etc...  When I have two processors installed the DLED light alternates green from 3 to 4 continuously.  What does this mean?

Re-flashing BIOS does not seem to help the situation.  I am experiencing the same problem.  If I set the FSB manually to 66/83/100 with both processors installed the board will start POST and then freeze after memory is tested and '2 CPUs' is printed on the the screen, I am not able to get into the BIOS.  Motherboard works great with one processor (Either one).  I don't get it.  All of the other components check out (both processors, memory, and video adapter tested in a ASUS CUSL2-C), there MUST be a problem with the motherboard.  I am sending it in, unless you have any other suggestions.

  • Big pob with 694D Pro AIR!!!

Don't know if this is the right place...
I have a 694D PRO AIR Motherboard with Promise Raid Controller pdc20265, Dual PIII-933 and a pair of Quantum Fireball 20.5 GB HDDs in RAID (stripe 2+0).
A few days ago i decided to format and reinstall win2000 (it always worked fine in 2 years...), but since i have started setup procedure (via CD boot) it cannot see HDDs!!
    My procedure:
    > I insert win2K cd-rom, reboot, start install procedure
    > I press F6, it asks me for floppy base driver for Promise Controller, it reads it and everything goes fine (it seems...)
    > It goes on, ask me for EULA things and so on, i accept and..... IT SAYS ME THAT DOES NOT FIND ANY DRIVE MOUNTED ONBOARD!!!
From this point i dunno what to do, i tryed everything, including:
    - MoBo bios upgrade
    - driver upgrade
    - connect drives on normal IDE port, format them and reconnect to Promise Controller
    - analyze HDDs surface via Maxtor supplyed utility
    - controller driver update
The strange thing is that dos-booting from floppy (win95 and win98 floppy boot) it can see my c: stripe array with correct capacity (40GB, 2 HDDs of 20.5GB each), i can format it and Fdisk it if i want!
I tryed also with a live linux installation (a linux based OS, capable to install itself on RAM from cd, called Knoppix) and it can see the 40GB array too!!!
The only one that cannot see any array stripe is win2000 installer.
(Forgot to mention that FastTrak Utility says that Stripe array is up and functional).
    Can you help me?!??!
    Am I missing something!??!
    Thanks in advance...

nvidia do this in drivers to early via boards as agpx4  a lot of the time never worked properly on them

  • 694D Pro-A (MSI-6321) issues

Just bought a 694D Pro-A v. 1.0 in retail box off Ebay.  There are several confusing issues that I would like to ask about.  This board has the "B" chipset version (so there is no separate ATA-100 chip),  no RAID, and onboard sound.  Running Dual PIII 700, 1 Gb SDRAM, 2 WD HD on primary IDE, and a Matsushita DVD and TEAC CD-ROM on the secondary IDE.  GeForce MX2 64Mb AGP graphics card.
    1)  The BIOS says v. 3.3 01/30/01 but the MSI website says that this version is only for the Pro-AR or -AIR?  But this board is NOT RAID equipped!
    2)  The system will not boot from a CD-ROM, even with it configured properly in the BIOS, where the same CD will boot on my other computers.  I found a note somewhere that says that some boot scriptors have problems because some older BIOS versions have a bug with regards to booting from CD.
    3)  I tried to FLASH the BIOS to v. 3.7 using an NTFS boot disk and following the appropriate directions on the website for non-FAT drives.  The FLASH utility started, and allowed me to save my old BIOS, but then nothing happened.  When I manually rebooted the old BIOS was still there.  There is no BIOS protection in the BIOS itself, and the pins that are supposed to be on jumper J5 (per the manual) to lock/unlock the BIOS do not exist!
    4)  The system will not restart, either by pushing the reset button or doing restart through either W2k or XP.  This also happened during set-up of those systems independently.  The only way to get the system to boot is to completely power it off and on again.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

No luck flashing the BIOS with the new boot disk.  I am able to get the flash utility to work, but it comes up with a message saying "flash type - unknown flash" and then when I try to install the BIOS it says "error message - unknown flash type"
I also tried the LiveBIOS auto-update, but it could not find a proper BIOS, despite the fact that the MSI website says all MS-63xx boards are supported, but there are not MS-6321 BIOS listed?
Is it even possible to flash this BIOS?

  • 694d Pro AIR v1.0 (ms6321) HELP!!

I was given a 694d Pro AIR v1.0 board to use as a  spare server. I have 2 PIII cumine 866mhz chips for it.. vcore of 1.7.
Problem is: When I cold boot the machine it hangs with no video..although everything else is blasting away.. (fans, lights, harddrives etc).. If I continue to push the reset button a few times it will boot up as normal. (quite a few times!!)
So began my saga.  First I installed a new 550w psu to make sure I had enough for the dual chips.
Both are the exact same stepping etc.. checked with the intel checker to be sure.  All bios settings are fine but again to be sure I upgraded the bios on it.  Still no joy.
checked the memory with new matched memory, again no joy. ?(
When it actually boots, so far it's been stable. but I'm in a bind at this stage.. After a week of messing I've gone back to my old tyan tiger 133 with one cpu just so I can get some work done..
If anyone has any ideas please let me know.. as I'm about to bang my head off the nearest wall and find my hammer.  X(

try going to the boards page check the faq
does it need EEC ram ,look at the various tested compatable hardware, cpu compatability etc
