[6D] Handheld Night Shot Mode vs. Manual (or Auto)

Hi.
I am little bit confused about this "feature". There are no technical explanations how the merging of the four pictures is done. Some quick tests achieved more sharper images using A+ as with the SCN mode.
As no one (or most of the people) can hold their hands completely steady, single images are always shifted so merging them should produce some sort of ghosting effect or unsharp images.
One quick test:
SCN: 1/40 F5.6 ISO 12800
A+;  1/60 F4 ISO 12800
I am not sure if i limited the shutter speed to 1/40 min.
This is only one test in low light but A+ image was much sharper.
Can someone tell me in which particular situation it makes more sense to use the SCN mode? How far does it goes with slower shutter speed?
Thanks I would really appreciate if someone can me clear out on this one.
Cheers
Igor

I couldn't find any details on it, so I can only guess what it's doing.  My basic philosophy is: camera auto functions can't do anything that I can't do myself, either through camera settings or in post.  But I have much more control over doing it myself.    I dunno, if the preset function works for you, then use it.  But I wouldn't be surprised if you find it doesn't work as well as doing something yourself.  Seems the nature of these things.
I don't think that Canon has invented some revolutionary new process that allows crisp handheld night shots.  I'd guess that it tries to take four shots above a certain shutter speed (and I would guess around 1/40 to be a limit), and then it stacks them into a single image for exposure calculation. It's a technique used in astrophotography a fair bit, you can do it manually in photoshop or just get a program that does it for you.

  • Color correcting green night shot

I have a project where the client shot a wedding and the camera's night shot (filter) was on. Thus, the entire thing is bluish/green. I've tried the 3-way color corrector, but it's not looking anywhere near what the real colors are. Maybe there is really no way to fix that (using FCP)? Any other suggestions out there or has anyone else had this issue and been able to make it look somewhat better?
    Thanks again.

This is the DVD Studio Pro forum, so you may also want to repost. Anyway, have you looked at the scopes to see what is going on in Final Cut? What you can do to start is try to get the contrast set as much as possible to be balanced (I am assuming mosst contrast is gone?) See where your black and whites are and try to get them back as much as possible. Though a short cut and not the best way, use thhe eye dropper to get a sense of how far off the blacks and whites are. (You probably can use a tux and a wedding gown?) And of course it will change from shot to sshot.
If it is blue green sounds like there is too much Cyan ultimately? Are you missing Reds? Not sure what you are seeing though (is this like night scenes from Blair Witch?) I do underwater stuff, so my sense of Blue/Green is a bit different

  • NOKIA N97 Dark/night shot imaging issue

there is imaging issue with night shot, whenever i shots pics in dark/night it gives me pic with white fadded in left side of image,is just bcoz of dual led flash which is very close to camera lens .anybody are facing the same problem...

Just thought I'd add a follow up to this. Last night as I couldn't add my email account using the standard Nokia N97 email set-up so instead I used the Email Client application (Email on 3) that came from Three Mobile (my network provider) in the UK. I have been using this Three mobile client for my work email but used the N97 email app for my hotmail but the hotmail account stopped working when I upgraded the firmware software a couple of days ago and have been unable to add any new email accounts using the N97 email application. However last night I added my hotmail account using the Three email client and on doing so I got back 42mb from somewhere. I don't know if this is a fault with Three email client or some other interaction somewhere but from nowhere I got all this space back.
For months I have been losing space and have been removing applications to get back last bits of space but was now down to below 1mb for the past week and ran out of apps to delete.
I think this was probably yhe Three client app but am a bit suspicious that after this firmware upgrade I cannot add any email clients using the standard built in email software.
Just though I'd post this in case it helps anyone else of points someone in the right direction. Will keep an eye on the space and see if it still goes down quickly and if so will try deleting the hotmail email account and see if that frees the space. I will post back if that is the case.
Definatley reluctant to do any more firmware upgrades from now on though as have lost my built in email app (fails to connect to any accounts anymore)  and can no longer use the external wireless Nokia keyboard I had. Hate to think what I'd lose on the next upgrade.
    Thanks

  • IOS - Dark Theme, or a Night-Time Mode

    Hi,
I'm new to the forums here, so please bear with me.
I'm a long time Mac & iPhone user, but have been increasingly frustrated by the fact that Apple is not issuing a "Dark Theme" that is comparable to a night-time mode for iOS.
The current iOS 7.1 is lovely to look at and use; it's so simple and elegant in its interface, but it is also exceedingly bright. There is a tremendous increase in the overall brightness of the interface, and at times it can be quite glaring in the eyes.
Turning the phone on in a darkened environment (yes, there are practical times for doing this!) is like having a 200 W halogen lamp ignite the room.
There is one feature that is in Settings that "inverts colours", but honestly it's completely ridiculous having it there as it mangles your wallpaper, turns all green icons orange, all blue ones red, etc etc, it's like looking at a negative film from an old camera. It doesn't look like iOS 7.1. It looks like someone has played around in Photoshop and decided to splash diametrically opposite colours on every single icon, picture and background.
Rather than this completely impractical mangling of colours would it not be simpler to have a "night-mode" where all the whites of the backgrounds are converted to a dark colour, and the dark fonts turned to white?

As to why Apple doesn't include such a feature (one I've never noticed in other smart phones, either), only Apple would know.

  • Help!! Askin about ITunes manual and auto manage!!

I was told by a friend that i could import my cd's, choose to manually update my library and not have to keep the albums (cd's) on my hard drive but yet still be able to have it in itunes and on my ipod, Is this true,,is it possible?? If so,,, some please explain!! -Thanks

You can do it but if you do you need to come up with some type of backup plan, Because when you have to restore the ipod due to some error/issue or you wipe the ipod blank (And the day will come) you will be screwed without backups on CD because you removed the files from the PC.
If you are wanting to do it due to limited harddrive space, you should think about buying a new internal harddrive or external harddrive.
That said, all you have to do (In iTUnes 7) is check "Manually manage songs" on the ipods summary page and hit "Apply" in the lower righthand corner. In this mode you manually drag songs (Or playlist) in iTUnes to the ipods name and drop it for it to be added to the ipod.
Once added to the ipod, Highlight the song in iTUnes library and hit the "Del" key on the keyboard

  • I have an older IPOD that I'm having trouble getting new purchases on to my IPOD. I use to have a source list on the left hand side of screen where I dragged my purchases to and they downloaded.  Can't find place to check manual vs. auto sync.

I have an older IPOD classic that I'm having trouble getting new purchases from library to IPOD. I use to have a IPOD icon in the source list on the left side of the screen. Now that is all gone. My purchases are coming up as recently purchased but can't figure out how to get them transferred to IPOD.  I also can't find how to confirm setting is for manual not auto sync as the first computer I had blew up and am now using a different one. I haven't had any of these problems prior to the updates.

    G'day Mate,
As an avid flight simmer I bought a new soundcard my previous was
an audigy 2 platinum ex with an external module I really liked but somehow all of a sudden I was getting a screech when using FS9 sor I opted to change to the present. Well stone the crows my soundcard was auto updated with new drivers and well you guessed it the soundcard did not show in the sound video controllers window No I have just joined this forum and it looks like3 you may have the answer for me . I am now going to do as you suggest and see what happens.
I shall return with the outcome of my dilemma.

    Settings>>Privacity, be sure the Location Service is turn on;
    Or:
In Settings>>General>>Reset, select "Reset all Adjusts". (Sorry, but it will change some personal adjustments, but will not delete anything at all)

How to set wireless printer at ad Hoc mode in CP1025nw with auto-off is off?? ie  never auto-off!!
Thank you very much for your help if any!!
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Quite a few questions there, Sends, but I will do what I can to answer them.
I would first recommend buying a router, even if it is one that you won't connect to the internet and network this with your other PCs and the printer. This will give you the best functionality and results for what you are attempting to do.
Additionally, the Auto Off feature of the printer can be disabled, and is not affected by the connection type. You can usually go through the Setup Menu and select Tools to change the options there on the energy saving features.
Lastly, the auto off feature on your computer is a Windows question, but an easy one to answer. If you are on a laptop you can right-click on the battery in the service tray (bottom right hand corner) and change the energy conservation settings.
You might be better off installing the printer through the USB cord and alternating that based on when you are using it, but that would be optimal only if you are printing only a few documents on an irregular basis. A networked connection is the easiest to manage over several computers, honesty, but you do have some requirements for that connection and limitations as well.
I hope this information is useful!

  • Is the only option for a good night's sleep to manually put the phone in silent mode?

On Google Voice I have do not disturb hours automatically, so calls at 3am won't ring my phone.
However, I also have people who call my iPhone directly.
I live in Hawaii and I don't need calls coming in at 3am my time, 9am EST.  I can manually put it into silent mode, but last night I forgot, and sure enough the phone blasted away while I was sleeping.
Why can't I say during certain hours don't ring the phone?  This is a smart phone right?

After researching it more today I found at that Apple is falling behind.
With the Android not only can my phone be silenced at 3am automatically, but it will also automatically adjust the ringing and vibration based on my location or at specific times.  For example, if I am in school it knows I am in school and the ringer is shut off automatically, so I don’t get that embarrassing call during a lecture.  Once I leave school I don’t miss calls because the ringer automatically comes back on, I don’t have to remember to change it manually.
Plus, you can specify certain callers to get through at anytime, for example, my family can still ring my phone at 3am, but no one else.  Daycare can always get through too, even if you are in a meeting you want to know if your child had an emergency.
It can even remind you to charge your battery if it is below a certain percentage and it knows you are now located at home where you can charge it.
I am feeling left out of the technology curve now with the iPhone clunky on / off hardware switch that I have to remember to change manually.

  • Burst mode in Manual Mode?

    Hi all,
Simple question again.. In Superior Auto mode there is a setting you can configure to set the "Burst with Long Press" either to High-Speed or Standard or Off.
In Manual mode, I cannot find this feature. How to do burst shots with long press in Manual Mode?
    Thanks!

I have not seen this setting on my Xperia Z, nor on the Xperia Z1's user manual, are you certain that you have the option under superior auto? if you do how do you set it

  • Time capsule does not allow me to select bridge mode or manual setup

I've got an Aztech combined router and modem. I have disabled its wireless feature, and from what I have read, understand that I need to set up the Time capsule in manual mode in order to have a bridge connection (?). I've reset the TC several times, but the manual setup option or the bridge connection option does not seem to be available. I can backup fine, but want to use the router facility given the price I paid! If I try to edit the router mode with the TC already setup, the option to change it is greyed out (DHCP & NAT)
Bit of a novice at these things, so any help greatly appreciated!

You need to make sure your ISP supports pppoe as a method of authentication.. if so then you must bridge the Aztech modem.. so it no longer handles the connection.. look up the manual for the modem to find out how to do this.
With the modem bridged.. reset the TC and the airport utility should recognise that it is now needing to run in router mode.. you are running Lion or ML and v6 utility has no manual setup.. it auto sets bridge. You need to force it to router.. but by default from reset the TC will be router.. you then need to setup pppoe client.. have no idea how to do that in v6 utility.. I am pleased to say!!
If you run lion.. download and install the v5.6 utility.. then all your troubles will go away.. it is a tool.. rather than Lion version being a toy utility.

  • N93 & night video mode: Nokia response

Many of you have been wondering why the N93 shoots night videos in black and white. We just got a clarification to this issue from Nokia.
We would like to clarify that the Nokia N93 black and white video effect being discussed is a feature and is not an error. In earlier software versions, the video colour representation was incorrect in very low light conditions. To overcome this error, a modification was made to reduce the colour towards black and white.
(I've posted this also to the Software Updates board >>
I wrote all my posts from 2005-2011 as an "Admin" for this community. I still work for Nokia as an external consultant, so my rank in all posts is now "Employee".

I do not quite agree with you given the fact that still pictures under same lighting conditions reproduce colours quite correctly, in night mode, and the pictures come out with vivid details & colour given the fact that the camera uses same lens and same image processing algorithm to process the still picture and a video
I dont know yet, how to put the pictures here which would lay all doubts to rest.Message Edited by babdi on 09-Feb-2007

  • One shot (Single shot) mode for LM3S8962

Hss anyone successfully programmed a one-shot output pulse with an external interrupt?  I am trying to program a one-shot output .  I know that the input trigger is on CCP0.  I am trying to understand how I can control an external pin to put out an accurate one-shot pulse, or will i just have to just use elemental I/O when servicing the interrupt?
I looked at this link already:
    http://208.74.204.114/t5/LabVIEW-Embedded/Programming-timer-A-in-LM3S8962/m-p/1076794#M2113
    I tried this:
I changed the TimerConfigure to "OS", but it still is periodic.  I also used the timer config vi's to try to change the operation from periodic to single shot, it does not seem to work.
I am about to try this:
    Thanks, George
P.S.  I used an external trigger to generate an interrupt.  In the interrupt, i turn on an elemental I/O bit, then I use an empty for-loop to do a delay, then i turn off the bit.  If the external interrupt is asychronous, I get dither in my output pulse.  If I use the internal PWM module and use this as the interrupt, then the output pulse is stable.  It doesn't make sense.......
