6D shutter speed changes?????

Hi everyone, I am new here and if this question has been asked previously please point me to the post. I did browse through the previous questions but did not see this particular problem.
My probles lies with my 6D I shoot automobile racing with a 70-200 2.8 and a 580EXII flash, A couple weeks back during the night I was shooting manual mode and I noticed that my shutter speed kept changing on it's own, so I switched to TV mode and it worked fine for one week, but I noticed last night it started doing the same thing. I am setting my speed at 400 and repeatedly it would change to 200 or even lower, thus making my shots overexposed. Anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening??

I noticed the same thing when I used to have and use a 5D, 5D Mk II and my 7D.  But since I went all 1 series I have not had it happen since.  I still believe it is the knobs moving, rubbing, or something else moving them.
This was a big concern with the pros so Canon changed the way a 5D Mk III works so it can not move accidently.
The shutter wheel doesn't work any differently on a 5D3. It's the mode dial that now can't be turned accidentally.

  • Shutter speed changes.

    Hi all,
I'm using a Nikon D5000 with Lightroom 3 and a Macbookpro. I'm new to tethered capture but I have "Lightroom 3 book fo Digital Photographers". After searching through that and looking through Adobe Help documents I have yet to find an answer to why Lightroom is changing my shutter speed. My camera is set to manual, shouldn't Lightroom be as well?
My happy ending in all this will be if I can find some way to keep Lightroom from changing my shutter speed.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    You aren't using Mac OS X 10.6, are you? Adobe don't officially support it yet, although it may work, as per this quote from their tethered shooting support guide;
"Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Mac OS X 10.6 are not officially supported for the D3x, D90, and D5000, but they still may work."

  • Shutter speed footage

So I have some footage that has had the shutter speed changed as i done a manual setting on the camera(XLR2).
The reason i changed this was we had to film a presentation with LCD screens in the shot. So to stop the flickering of the screens i changed the Shutter speed. This obviously effects the picture. We filmed in 50i 16:9 25fps. I have now digitized the footage into fcp but obviously we still have a slight lag in the motion image. Is there a solution or effect so that i can have this footage looking more......"normal"..... rather than a little bit slow motioney??
Does frame blending help or hinder?
    Thanks in advance
    Nice

Maybe you changed the frame rate not the shutter speed?

It's not obvious at all from where I sit.

You're saying you shot at normal shutter speeds of 1/50s for most of the scenes but these interiors with the screens were shot at, what, 1/4s? And you allowed movement to occur in the shot? do we have that correct?
You have recorded image blur caused by a shutter being left open while lit objects in the frame moved. There is no way to remove those pixels that leave trails behind the objects. You must reshoot.

  • Canon SX600 HS How do i change the shutter speed? Thanks

I need to change the shutter speed but manual is confusing
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If you need to change the shutter speed for a long exposure shot, you will need to be in the specific scene mode of the camera and choose the Long shutter mode. Then you can select a shutter speed. You cannot choose a shutter speed in other modes with that camera.

  • Auto Lighting Optimizer - Changes shutter speed in manual?

Hi, I have a question regarding ALO. I recently enabled it on my 1DX and have since noticed my shutter speed will automatically change slightly once in awhile (while shooting in manual with auto ISO.) For example: I set my shutter speed to1/60 and it will occassionally drop to 1/50 and then jump back to 1/60. I've checked the instructions but couldn't find anything regarding this. It only happens with ALO enabled.
    Cheers

Doh...you're right no safety shift in M mode...my bad...
I have no clue...I don't use ALO.  I don't have the 1DX but on my 5DIII in M mode, I could've sworn I've seen the shutter speed flutter a few times...that's why I was so sure it was the safety shift feature...I only confirmed today that there's not supposed to be a safety shift in M.
I'll have to watch for this again...it might be something else because I don't use ALO.

  • How do I set the Shutter Speed in Manual Mode on my EOS 70D

I recently was forced to upgrade to a Canon 70D after my 50D died from a fall.  I am not happy with the ease of setting the Shutter speed while in Manual mode.  The only way I can currently set the shutter speed while in Manual mode, is to go to the info screen and set the shutter speed with the touch screen.  The manual states that I should be able to set the Shutter speed with the Main Dial, behind the shutter release. ( which is how it was on the 50D).  I can control the Aperture with the quick control dial.  The Function Lock button is off.
I am sure this is do to some setting I have wrong, that is not allowing me to fix this issue, but I cant figure out what it could be after hours on the net and in the manual.  I would greatly appreciate it if someone could help me with this issue.
    Thanks
    Gene

Another possible solution is to use a battery grip on your 70D and see if the dial on the grip will change the shutter speed.
There are some discussions about this problem on some earlier models Canon DSLR. Check it out.

How do you know he's from outside the U.S.? And is the shutter speed actually set differently on cameras manufactured for use in other countries? Do you, and Canon top management, appreciate how absurd that disclaimer sounds to your U.S. customer base?

  • Suggestion - 5D3 minimum shutter speed for auto ISO

Hi, I would like to make a suggestion to Canon on the 5D3 camera, with regard to the minimum shutter speed for auto ISO. Currently I find that most of the selectable shutter speeds are on the low side (mostly below 1/125), and this may not be useful for handheld photography, or for fast moving subjects. I would like to suggest the following:
    - More minimum shutter speed settings faster than 1/125 including in-between speeds e.g. 1/160 (between 1/125 and 1/250)
    - Automatic shutter speed based on a multiple of lens focal length e.g. 2x lens focal length (for both prime and zoom lenses)
I hope that Canon can come up with an updated firmware that does this. Thanks.

Good idea, you can add it to the thread "Firmware Update Wishlist", and "Canon dSLR Wish List?" because a proper, configurable, flexible auto ISO is much needed and would beneficiate all cameras, not only 5D3.
I am not sure what Magic Lantern can give you on that issue, but you can take a look at their page.
Now, as a short term solution, on 1D4 I have put the cfns for 'shutter speed range' and 'iso speed range' in MyMenu, and when I need I change the max ISO (usually 1600) and a min shutter seepd (depends on lens and subject) on the fly. Not very practical (many button push needed), but it works.
    I hope that helps

  • Loss of shutter speed data!!

All of the sudden, LR2.3 is not showing the full shutter speed in any of its panels. All I get is a "1/  sec"; the denominator is gone! Please see the attached screen shot.
I've had this problem on my MacBook laptop for months and through many versions of LR (and never could find a cause), but it just started happening on my MacPro. I KNOW the data is there because, when I open the file in Photoshop CS4 and look in file>file info, the complete shutter speed appears. Anybody else experiencing this, and is there any fix. I've been using LR since it was a beta and did not experience this until a couple of days ago on my MacPro.
I haven't changed anything in the machine, software or otherwise. All is up to date . . . . I don't get it! Thanks in advance.

    Marc,
Marking a question as answered when it clearly isn't is not helpful. By doing so you may well have reduced the chances of someone else providing you with the correct answer. I have therefore deleted the post. Unfortunately, the header will still show that the question has been answered, but in the event that somebody does answer it correctly, you will again have the ability to mark a post as correct.
In future, please use the buttons provided as they were intended otherwise you will be undermining the whole purpose of providing them.

  • Pdx10 shutter speed...

hi.. i have a sony pdx10, and i want to adjust the shutter speed... however, after taking the [hold] option off and allowing manual shutterspeed adjustment in the menu, i am still not able to adjust it with the button and wheel on the back of the camera, nor any other way... can anyone help or tell me whats up??

The way to alter the shutter speed is to change the light sensitivity options but you only have four settings.

  • Shutter speed between 25 and 30 seconds

HI! I have a 5D Mark iii and have been shooting the Milky Way. I would like to be able to set the camera to shutter speeds between 25 and 30 seconds...like for example 27 seconds. Is there a setting to change? On my camera, it jumps from 25 to 30 seconds and nothing in between. Thanks!

An intervalometer will do it in bulb mode (you can dial in any amount of time you want).
But I suspect 3 seconds really wont make much of a difference.... that's just a 1/10th of an exposure stop. Usually you wont notice much of a difference with merely a 1/10th stop difference.

  • Shutter speed

is there any way i can reduce shutter speed( to keep it open for longer time to capture movement)? or to increase shutte rspeed (to capture fast moving objectsmore crisply)?

  • How to offset speed change in frame rate conforming?

Hi all. I am conforming video from about 25fps to 30 fps in cinema tools, before editing in FCP. Does any one know of a formula, or calculator tool that would tell me the speed change percentage to use, to get the clip to play in normal speed while editing? Is there a setting to do this automatically in FCP?

And you needn't speed change the footage at all. Simply cutting 25fps footage into a 30fps timeline will do. If you really desire a formula, to convert 25 fps to 30, you need to run it slower (less frames) so the speed is 25/30 or 5/6ths or 83% - to do it the other way, 30/25 = 6/5ths or 120%.
But, like I said, if you cut PAL footage into an NTSC timeline, it will adjust the speed appropriately - sizing too...

  • Upgrade and plug ins migration ? speed changes and transitions to motion 3

I have the FCS2 upgrade on its way soon i hope..
will my natress plug ins and others migrate when i go from FCS1 to 2?
I am mid project - have done all my captures but havent got into the nitty gritty of the edit yet - you reckon its a bit risky to upgrade?
I am super keen to get the ability to easily do ramps (in Motion 3 or in FC 6) and 3d logo fly arounds. Looking fwd to being able to throw transitions and speed changes into Motion 3 - i hear that it can deal with that now - is this true?

    Thanks - thats all good

  • Adobe Media Encoder CS4 Causing Jerky Playback with Speed Changes

Here is an Matrox AVI that was captured in Adobe Premiere Pro CS4. Watching the edited clip with a speed change of 600% looked fine when played in Premiere Pro CS4.
When I export the clip using Adobe Media Encoder CS4 as MPEG2 Blu-ray with a preset of 1440 x 1080i High Quality playback is very jerky. An export of the same clip with normal speed looks great??
