6th Gen Nano Won't Work In My Car After Restore

When I first bought my Red Nano, it wouldn't work with my car mp3 player. I took it to a Genius Bar, and the guy said he'd try some type of update. Whatever he did, it worked. Yesterday my Nano started acting wonky, so I restored it today. Now it won't play in my car. Does anyone have any idea what the Genius guy might have done to make it work last time?

After trying reset, reinstall, blah, blah, blah, I got the wild idea to see if my Classic would still play in my car. It did. So I tried my Nano again. This time it worked. I don't know why, all I care about is that it's working again.

  • 6th gen nano won't charge

I got my wife a new 6th gen nano.  It operates just fine...as long as it's plugged into my PC.  I can put songs on it, use the touch screen, etc. The display shows the battery with the plug icon on it, which I assume means it's plugged in, but not charging.  As soon as I disconnect it, the ipod won;t work at all. No power ups, nothing at all.  I tried resetting it when plugged in, but it made no difference.  I've tried charging it on the PC via the USB cable, on my car charger for my 5th gen ipod, and using the AC adapter, but with no luck.  Do i just have a bad battery or what?!

Take the iPod  to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.

  • HT4316 my 6th gen nano won't p/u any radio signals when I plug in earbuds

My 6th gen nano doesn't seem to recognize the earbuds are inserted.  It tells me to insert them in order to p/u radio signals when they are already in.  How can I get FM radio to work? Thx!

I don't understand why you only recvd 5pts, I clicked on "This solved my question", as it did.
I had tried 3 sets of headphones but not inserted them far enough in, afraid of damaging my
new gadget.  I was quite frustrated.  Anyway, I suppose 5 beats 0, thank you again and I
    apologize for points mixup.

  • TS3581 Won't work with my car after iOS7 update, at least one other friend is having the same issue today.

I updated my iphone 5 to iOS7 and it no longer  works with my car's stereo.  My boss is having the same issue.  Anyone else?  Ideas on how to resolve this?

More details would ne nice such as what make of car?
When I upgraded to my iPhone 5, a friend was complaining that his iPhone 5 did work in his car. I took the Apple 30 pin to Lightning adapter out of my car and replaced his third party one and it started working.

  • My 6th gen nano won't let me put my correct height in.

I'm 5'2 and every other height works. It autocorrects to 5'1. I've tried to restore and update.

I am having the same problem (I am also 5'2") and it has been a nightmare. I was told to return the i-pod nano (which meant having to schedule an appointment and wait a long time for the store staff person to assist). Then when I tried to exchange it for the same color they were out. I received a different color (which I don't like as much) and it still has the same problem. Tech support had me delete and reinstall software several different times and then finally told me there was a fix in the works and it would be available in the next update. It has been months and nothing has happened. I would have rathered that the first time I contacted tech support they simply would have said there is a fix in the works (and don't hold your breath). I spent a lot of time running around trying to fix a problem that presumably Apple already knew about and is "working" on repairing.

  • 6th Gen Nano won't play content longer than 1440 minutes

Audible.com now allows for single file download of audio books which can be sync'd to iPod. However the iPod cannot plan content longer than 24 hours in length. You will ned to download the segmented audio if the program is longer than 1440 minutes long.

Hi, just found this after Googling the same problem. I hope this will help other Audible.com users who like long biographies and the like, but can't play them to the end on their iPods.
My iPod Nano is a gen 7, and either starts stuttering like a stuck LP record or jumps back to page one of the audiobook after flawlessly playing a good part of a long book. I suppose it must be about 24 hours into it, as it didn't falter on a 23+ hour book. My laptop and my Kindle would play the books all the way to the end, so it wasn't a problem with the files themselves. The local Apple store tried reinstalling the iPod's firmware, to no avail, so they gave me a new iPod. I had the same problem with the new device.
Today I had a talk with a supervisor in the Apple support group who was sympathetic and said that she would refer the issue to their engineeriing staff and get back to me. In the meantime, I talked with Audible.com, and the support guy there solved the problem for me. All you have to do is sign in to your Audible account, go to your Library, and find the "Audio Quality" button at the upper right corner. Mine was on "Enhanced", and he had me switch it to "Format 4". That resulted in all the audiobooks in the library to be displayed as both a single file and as multiple files (Part 1, 2, 3, etc.). I was able to download the final parts and successfully listened to them on my iPod.
Nonetheless, this does seem like an issue that Apple would want to address with a software enhancement.

  • 6th gen nano won't go to sleep/white screen

I washed my nano! I put it in a bag of rice for a few days.  When I push the sleep button, a white screen comes on that says OK to disconnect. I have tried resetting. The apple logo comes up and then goes to the white screen, saying Do not disconnect and then back to OK to disconnect.  I have connected it to my mac and its recognized in itunes.  It will let me add music to it.  I have restored it a few times and still the same thing.  I have tried to get it to go into disk mode by holding the sleep button and the volume down button, waiting for the black screen and then pressing the volume buttons together as suggested in apple support.  The apple logo just comes back up again and then to the white screen.  It doesn't go into disk mode. Any ideas?

If the rice trick did not work, the Nano seems to be in need of service: Apple - Support - Service Answer Center
Since water damage is not covered by the warranty, you'll have to pay for the replacement:

  • 6th gen nano won't recognize being rotated

One of the features of the 6th generation iPod nano is use of the accelerometer, that it will recognize being rotated and rotate the display accordingly. Is this a setting that needs to be enabled beforehand, or would you suspect a hardware problem?
    Thanks in advance!
Edit: You know what, I'm going to read the manual from now on. You manually rotate the display, for all those curious.

  • 6th gen nano won't sync with iTunes

I was able to plug in and sync my nano when I first got it. But after I updated my nano, it shows this message: An iPod has been detected, but it could not be identifed properly. I assume this is because the version of iTunes that I am using (10.1) is not compatible with the updates on my nano. However, this is the latest version of iTunes that I could get on my computer and I can't update to a later version (I have tried everything that has been suggested on the discussion boards). I can't return the nano to factory settings because that requires iTunes. I have tried formating my iPod, but all that did was erase all my songs off of it. Can someone please help me?

However, this is the latest version of iTunes that I could get on my computer and I can't update to a later version
Can you walk us through what happens when you try to update iTunes?
If you get any error messages, let us know what they say. (Precise text, please.)

  • My new Ipod Nano won't work in my car with Bluetooth.

I have a brand new 2014 Mazda Miata with Bluetooth. The car's manual only discusses using the Bluetooth for hands free phoning (there are hands free phone buttons on the steering wheel). No mention is made of how to use it with an MP3 player. The car's Bose stereo does have a sticker that says it is MP3 compatible. I sat in my car and changed the setting on the IPOD to turn Bluetooth on and for like 6 or 7 minutes it was saying something about trying to locate device. I finally got tired of waiting and put in a CD and drove off. I went back to where I purchased the Nano but they were no help, just wanted me to buy cables to use in the car. I see that my stereo has some sort of button that says Auxiliary (along with buttons for AM, FM, CD and Sirius) but the owners manual was no help with that buttons use.

    - Does the manufacturer say it will work with the 4G iPod and iOS on the iPod?
    - The configuration of the 4G iPod is different than previous iPods and on some docks the 4G does not fully seat in the dock.
    - Reset the dock. See the manufactuers instructons
    - Sometmtes this works.
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
However, sometimes an IOS update just breaks compatibility.
What model and IOS was the iPod that did work?

My 6th gen nano ipod stopped working. I figured it was because it was next to my sweaty body, so put it in rice. I sought help from internet and tried all of the troubleshooting steps; i.e pushing down the power button and the volume down button consecutively, plugging it in to a power source, waiting 10 minutes and pushing the buttons while it was plugged in. Nothing has worked thus far. Is there anything else that I can try?

  • My speaker system won't work with the 6th gen nano

Why won't my Logitech Speaker system for the iPod play or charge my 6th gen nano? It's worked for all of my other nano's. I hope there's no compatability issues.

I'm having almost the exact same problem with my JBL On Stage Micro Speaker (from around 1996) except it charges and syncs my Nano 6G OK. It just won't play the Nano thru the speakers. All my other iPods have played fine sitting in the JBL speaker including my Touch 4G from fall 2010.
The only thing I can think of is that the dock connector in the Nano 6G is wired differently? It would be interesting to hear if anyone has speakers that play using the Nano dock connector. Or if someone from Apple would let us know if the dock connector pin-outs have changed. Very sucky!

  • HT202183 My power button on 6th gen nano stopped working.

    hello everybody.
the power button on my 6th gen nano stopped working. everything else is ok but won't switch on unless plugged in to power. then its fine.
I think the power button is broken/stuck.
    Anybody else have this problem?
If so how did you fix it/ how much did it cost to fix?

Take the iPod Nano into an Apple Store.  After the folks there examine it, they will quote you an estimate.  Or you can call them and ask.
