6th kernel panic in one month

Hi guys,
I've got a little problem with my Mac that's driving me nuts. Today, for the 6th time in a month it went on a kernel panic and I can't understand why it's happening. This is my Mac's configuration:
MacBook Pro 15" early 2011
2,2GHz
8GB RAM (upgraded from the basic 4GB)
128GB SSD
AMD Radeon HD 6750 1GB DDR5
My first guess was that the issue was brought by KeyRemap4MacBook, I deleted it but it wasn't successful. Then I tried removing Air Display and GoogleSketchup but still, it wasn't that.
Now I'm wondering: is it a bad RAM? Or any other hardware issue? Is there any way to determine if the problem is software related or hardware related?
Just in case they might help, I uploaded the logs of all the kernel panics I had in the last month.
Here's the link: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/s440ijfdsydo737/y6r_mWhoYf
I'm desperate
P.S. I upgraded my RAM on January and I runned every possible test (Apple Hardware Test, Memtest86, Rember etc...) and I didn't encounter any problem.

The Antecea driver is still present, but you started having panics before it was installed. Probably you have a hardware fault.
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested. Unfortunately, you may have to leave it there for several days.
Print the first page of the latest panic report and bring it with you.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to bare metal from any of them.) Don’t erase the Lion recovery partition, if present.

  • Multiple Kernel Panics in One Day

I've got a 12 day old MacBook Pro which has 1GB RAM and is the 3rd laptop in less than 2 months from Apple. This last one has been working like a champ until today. No new software was added and nothing unusual was being done on the system. In fact, the last Kernel Panic occured when it was left alone and on for over an hour.
    Here is the Panic.log
Can someone look it over and give me any advise? The Apple Technical Support people will not review the logs I've sent them if I'm not in front of the laptop.

Interpreting a kernel panic log is not one of my strengths but I suggest Resolving Kernel Panics which provides information on the causes and troubleshooting steps to take in the order provided to resolve.

not know why, I reinstalled the system, the hardware test done, and I can not avoid the kernel panic. Someone would know that it is interpreting the report, hit one for you to look.

    Ciao, Francesco.
    1. Your panic logs are flagging the M-Audio FireWire driver:
Kernel loadable modules in backtrace (with dependencies):
    com.m-audio.driver.firewire(1.7.2)@0x9a7000
Assure that you are using the latest version of whatever M-Audio product(s) you are using: check their M-Audio Website for updates. Likewise you may wish to send the panic log to them for further analysis.
    2. See also my "Resolving Kernel Panics" FAQ. This FAQ includes step-by-step instructions for identifying and resolving some of the most common causes of kernel panics. The FAQ is a roadmap: start at the beginning and work systematically through the end, i.e. the "If all else fails..." section.
    Good luck!

  • Kernel Panic at Startup

I recently got my first kernel panic, about one week ago. Never before had one occur. It happened immediately after startup. I had done nothing different prior to it happening. Since then, I have had 3-4 more, all of them at startup. I force shutdown, and then restart; I have not yet had them occur back to back.
I have an iMac G5 (without the iSight). I have 1GB RAM (2 512 DIMM cards), which I installed myself about 10 months ago. I have no apps that launch at startup. I have a Lacie FireWire Hard Drive, and an (older) USB hub. All my operating software is up to date.
Last night I ran Apple Hardware Test. It took one hour, and everything "passed." (My version of Apple Hardware Test did not allow the "looping" method, which I read is the better way to do it?)
I also ran Disk Utility (from the install disk) and repaired the disk; then verified and repaired permissions after restarting.
I also ran OnyX, clearing out all caches. And MacJanitor, for kicks.
At about 2:00 AM, I restarted again...all was OK.
Now I am at work, and worried that when I go home again tonight, and start my computer, that dreaded KP will rear its ugly head again.
One other thing is that I am running an air conditioner in the same room, and when the compressor kicks in, I notice the lights dim ever so slightly. I notice nothing on the computer, though - no dimming, no flashes, nothing. I am not sure if they are on the same circuit.
Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks everyone.
iMac G5 (PowerPC) without iSight   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Hi, Matthew.
    1. See my "Resolving Kernel Panics" FAQ. This FAQ includes step-by-step instructions for identifying and resolving some of the most common causes of kernel panics.
My FAQ is a roadmap: start at the beginning and work through to the end, following the instruction in the order specified, including the "If all else fails..." section if a cause or resolution is not found in an earlier troubleshooting step therein.
    2. As far as general iMac G5 troubleshooting goes:1. See if your computer's serial number is in the range specified in the "iMac G5 Repair Extension Program for Video and Power Issues" document.
    2. Rule out potential hardware problems. Run the Apple Hardware Test that came with the computer. Instructions for doing so will be found in the hardcopy manual that accompanied your computer. For additional details, see my "Apple Hardware Test" FAQ.
    3. Check the diagnostic LEDs, a feature of your iMac G5. See "About the iMac G5 diagnostic LEDs."
    4. If your iMac G5 will not turn on, see "iMac G5: Troubleshooting when your computer won't turn on."
    5. See also the iMac Service & Support site.
    6. Check the iMac G5 Discussions for similar reports from other users.
    7. As a general check, run the procedure specified in my "Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption" FAQ. Perform the steps therein in the order specified.
    8. If the computer is either under warranty or covered by an AppleCare Protection Plan, don't hesitate to take advantage of your warranty and contact AppleCare.3. Since you have a desktop Mac, it is a good idea to invest in an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS). See point 3 of my recent post here.
    Good luck!

  • Kernel panics - decipher

I've been ridden with Kernel panics the last month. Some logged. Some not. The computer might stay up 4 days or 40 seconds. Never quite know. Today the thing locked up and sent the fans into overdrive. I restarted and checked the panic log. No entry. Bam! Black screen of death this time. I restart and checked the panic log again. This is what I found.

I've tried repairing my disk. No problems found.
    I've repaired permissions.
    I've cleaned my cache
    I've run TechTool Pro.
    I've pulled my hair out.
The only thing I haven't done is wiped the drive clean and installed everything from scratch. I really don't think that will make a difference though.
    I am at witts end.

    Hi, Del.
You wrote: "Did the x-labs stuff short of re-installing the os."and"I've tried 3 different ram tests. Everything checks out.
I've tried repairing my disk. No problems found.
    I've repaired permissions.
    I've cleaned my cache
    I've run TechTool Pro.
I've pulled my hair out."That's not a complete list of troubleshooting steps per my FAQ. It's not even close.
Unless you've followed all the steps and omitted them from your list, I suggest you follow all of the steps in my "Resolving Kernel Panics FAQ."
The FAQ is a roadmap, so proceed step-by-step from start through "If all else fails..."
Pulling your hair out is optional, but undocumented and not recommended.
    Your panic logs tell me:
    1. Each of your panic logs begins with one of the following lines:
    Unresolved kernel trap(cpu 0): 0x300 - Data access
    or
    panic(cpu 0 caller 0xFFFF0003): 0x300 - Data access
These indicate an 0x300 trap (error). The 0x300 (Data Access) exception indicates the processor could not perform a data memory access. Potential causes, in general terms, include RAM problems, hard disk corruption, and programming errors. "Programming errors" in this case can include invalid instructions and violations of protected memory, however it is often difficult to differentiate a programming error from a RAM, virtual memory (VM), or hard disk problem since any of these issues can result in .
    2. The fact that the Backtrace could not be obtained, e.g.
backtrace terminated - frame not mapped or invalid: 0xBFFFECE0
further complicates interpretation since we cannot tell which, if any, kernel extensions were involved in the panic. This could further support the idea of a RAM problem or the possibility of a bad processor, especially if all of the other panics you have seen occur on CPU 0. Sometimes a single pass of the Extended version of the Apple Hardware Test may miss an intermittent problem. The backtrace may also contain an invalid address, e.g. due to a programming error or any of the other hardware-related errors discussed above. If the panics are always occurring when using the same application, that makes that application suspect.
Given the relative dearth of information in your panic log, there are no shortcuts to troubleshooting. Panic troubleshooting can be tedious and time-consuming, but the roadmap in my FAQ — from Step 1 through "If all else fails..." is the road you need to follow.
    Good luck!

  • Kernel Panics during startups - cannot boot anymore

First: Sorry for my bad english - i hope you still can understand...
    The facts:
    - MacBook 2,0Ghz - 2gb Ram.
    - After 8 weeks --> random shutdowns. In OSX, in Bootcamp, in any application, even during booting OSX
    - Replacement of the logic board, after suggested by AppleCare
    - After that: OSX instable. Totally. Safari, DVD Player, Firefox, Adium.... any application crashed almost every 5 minutes
    - Even sometimes: Kernel Panics. One time even at the login screen
    --> I tried a reinstall --> Archive & Install
    - DURING the installation of DVD 2 --> Kernel Panic.
    - Sucessfully installed OSX in the second try
    - OSX seems to run fine - I do the update to .7 trough SoftwareUpdate
    - During reboot --> Kernel Panic.
    - and now: during EVERY reboot (short after the apple on grey background) a Kernel Panic. I took a picture of that:
    http://tinyurl.co/jon89
And now? I am sad! Crying! I don't know what to do anymore.. I'm writing now in Bootcamp-Windows - this is still running...
    ANY suggestions?
    sniff,
    Hauldhagen

Hi, Hauldhagen. Welcome to the Discussions.
    Good luck!

  • HT4833 logic files on external hard drive and kernel panic

I was using 2 external HDs via the Sonnet sata pro express34 card in MaBookPro. One ext. HD had only Logic project files, the other had plugins. Logic 9.I.7 installed on the MBP i7 late 2010 (OS 10.6.8), with Motu 828 audio interface via FW400. All this worked for a number of projects (simple stereo masters). Then Kernel panic damaging one ext HD with plugins. Then with just the other extHD connected, problems began. Trying to bounce a song, it stopped and froze, kernel panic with damage to the ext HD.
Seemed Logic could no longer work with the files on the ext HD. Don't know if this began before or after the HD was damaged.
First HD couldn't mount so turned off journaling, mounted and enabled journaling again. Have been backing up all on that HD via FW800, then will erase and format it.
    Second HD had
    "...Keys out of order
    Rebuilding catalog B-tree.
The volume ONETB could not be repaired..."
I backed up the files, erased and reformatted it. Waiting to try the setup again until the problem is figured out.
    1) I see there is also a Logic folder on the MBP with 3 projects in it. Did this confuse the program to have this on the internal drive plus a Logic folder with projects on the external drive?
Can I set up the program so all projects always stay on the external drive, instead of a default which created these early projects on the MBP drive?
    2) Is this not the problem and the whole thing is a problem with the express/34 card esata drivers/kext files, or 32 bit vs 64 bit, or ...?
    Many thanks, chas

I don't see how to edit my post above. I did not intend to title it "HT4833", that was just a page I'd looked at in the learning about Logic stuff, and this showed up in my question title. Strange there seems not to be a way to edit posts.

  • Could Safari cause kernel panic?

I've had two kernel panics in two days, and both times I had Final Cut Pro running with Safari. The cause seems to be bad RAM ('Uncorrectable Fbd memory error detected' was in the log) but its an odd coincidence. FCP has been really stable and is a fresh install, but my Safari settings were migrated over from my G4 and it has about 4 years of bloated settings and bookmarks (it's nowhere near as snappy as the Safari in my clean account).
Even though it's probably bad RAM, could Safari be the culprit in actually setting off the kernel panic? Like a sharp spike in memory usage from opening a new page actually triggers it (like when Bill Bixby gets angry)?

    Mpro 2.66, G4 Dual 1g, 15" Powerbook 2.66, 3g iPod   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

One way of confirming bad RAM is to run the Apple Hardware Test from your Tiger Installer DVD. When you start-up from the DVD, you hold down the option key. Eventually, the Hardware Test icon appears. Select it. When fully loaded, select the "quick test". This will test the various components of your system, including the RAM.
I have doubts about Safari causing the kernel panics. Have you seen this Apple Knowledge Base article about Kernel Panics?
One way to speed up Safari, especially since you carried it over from another system, is to trash the Icon folder in your User Account>Library>Safari folder. This holds the site icons. Trashing it will reset the file. Initially, the small icons appearing in the address bar will revert to a blue dot. Over time, the favicons will start to appear as you visit various sites.
Another way to speed up Safari is to select "empty cache" in the Safari Menu.
Post back after you run the hardware test.

  • Bizarre repeating Kernel Panic

About a year ago, my good old iMac began to exhibit a strange display error, Green (sometimes blueish, or any any color really, but primarily blue-green) gradient blocks started to pop-up everwhere. Finder windows, Menu Bars, Desktop, heck, coming out of sleep once the entire screen was taken over.
Anyway, if nothing was done about this, the system would Kernel Panic, and one would have to restart. At first i thought this to be one of the elusive mac viruses, so i bought norton antivirus, and ran the program. Well, halfway through, the machine kernel paniced. i tried booting it off of the CD, and while the system didn't kernal panic, the display error was very prevalent.
i reinstalled the OS, i reformatted the hard drive, i even took it to the Mac Genius thing, but infuriatingly, the one time i want it to kernel panic, it doesnt, so they said it's probably a logic board error. nothing got rid of the error for more than a week or two at best.
Eventually, furious, i bought a macbook. So while this isn't the most pressing thing in the world, it would really help if you could tell me what to do to fix it. Here's the panic.log file for one of the errors... i think they're mostly the same. i don't have a screen shot of the display problem, sorry!

is there anything i can do to save to computer?

    Hello one:
    Welcome to Apple discussions:
Flat statement - there are NO documented viruses (elusive or otherwise) that affect a Mac running OS X. I strongly suggest you dump the Norton AV software. While their AV software seems to run OK, Norton stuff caused OS X users (including me) serious problems in the past. The software manufacturer has dropped support for most Mac software.
    Now then, to your issue.
I do not read kernel panics well. However, if you have reinstalled OS X, you have eliminated almost all software-related causes of kernel panics. That, of course, leaves hardware. I do not read crash logs well, unfortunately. I would, however, run the hardware checker that came with your Mac to see if it points to any problems. You can also check on the HD (unlikely cause, based on your post) by opening disk utility and highlighting the hD (not your files). At the bottom is something called S.M.A.R.T. If that says anything other than verified, you have a HD problem.

  • Having Problems with Kernel Panics and an External Hard Drive

I've been having Kernel Panics for a month now and have yet to resolve the issue. I know about Dr. Smokes guide to resolving them, but I'm working on a time-sensitive editing project in Final Cut Pro and therefore have not had time to fix my computer.
I am using an OWC external hard drive for the project, and today when I had a kernel panic and I rebooted my computer as I normally do. But, this time, my external hard drive icon was not on my desktop, and a message popped up that said, "The disc you inserted was not readable by this computer." Is there anyway to remedy this so that my computer reads my hard drive?

Have you tried using Disk Utility to repair your ext. hard drive as shown in Dr.Smokes Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption?
    Cheers!

  • One month old macbook pro got hang(freeze) once, and kernel panic once: should i need to take some actions or its ok??

my macbook pro 13.3 (OS XLion 10.7.4) is one month old, few days ago  it got freezed(hanged) at that time only 2 apps were running google chrome and xcode, i pressed power button (hold it for few seconds) to restrat.
Today when i opened the lid(as my mac was on sleep for last one hour- no apps except finder was running) i saw an error like this "mac encountered an error hold your power button for few seconds to restart......blah blah..something in other languages too", i think some where it used the word "kernel panic".
After restart mac said "your computer restarted because of a reason", below i have copy pasted the reason.
Please suggest me its(this behavior is) okie or should i take it to apple center?, also to note i have never played any game on my mac. Can any body suggest me why this kernel panic happened by seeing the reason below.
Now i am afraid to leave my mac at sleep with unsaved data and that was the exact reason i shifted from windows to mac.

I have had a 15" Late 2011 model MBP since December and have never had a kernel panic.
If I do I would take it in for a check up.

  • MacBook pro no longer starts after a month of kernel panics. What to do?

After about a month of kernel panics, my Mac crashed one more time and will no longer start. It sits at a black screen and just beeps, sometimes once, three times or more. I've been waiting for a friend to bring me an osx startup disk so I can fix it from the disk utility, but in the meantime I've been avoiding suspect programs as well as starting the computer holding command + s and typing /sbin/fcsk fy as many people have told me, and each time it said my hard drive was all right. My friend is coming back this week with the disk, but I am afraid it will be impossible even to boot from that. Does anyone have any suggestions? I don't have apple care or a warranty so going to the nearest apple store (one hour away) or the nearest servicer (a few minutes away) doesn't seem good. What should I do? I'm also slightly worried because I installed a firmware update not long before the panics started, to get around the region limitations of the DVD drive. I'm hoping this didn't cause any problems, since these panics seem to be related to RAM but the timing is just too convenient. Could this be a factor?

Thanks again BDAqua, and sorry for the long delay between reponses. The computer's been out of sight and out of mind for me the past few weeks, but my wife reminded meabiut it this morning.
So I tried the repair disk function within disk utility on the install disc, and everything seemed to be ok. I got a message in green that says "the volume Jeffs OW Mac appears to be ok." And then "Volume repair complete." I also noticed that the capicity of the drive appeared to be 119.69 GB and the available space 119.61 GB, which I guess meant the drive was completely empty but working.
So I tried once again to restore from my time machine backup, and wonder of all wonders, it worked this time! Two hours of restoration later, I'm writing to you now from the restored computer, and my wife is thrilled (and thinks I'm a genius!). So thank you thank you thank you for taking the time to walk me through the steps! I really appreciate it!
But now we're afraid to try again to upgrade to Snow Leopard. Do you think there's any reason trying again would throw the computer into another state of confusion, flux, and ultimately disaster, or should I just give it a shot? It's a 2009 Macbook Pro 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, with 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, running OS X 10.5.8. Perhaps it just can't handle the new software?
All the best, and thanks so much again!
    Jeff

  • I'm getting kernel panics each day as I shut down, the message of restarting by holding down the power button appears on the screen - it began about a month ago and. Do you have any ideas of how to solve the problem?

I'm getting kernel panics each day as I shut down, the message of restarting by holding down the power button appears on the screen - it began about a month ago and. Do you have any ideas of how to solve the problem? I've copied the logs that I found for each kernel panic that still have the message logged. Please help if you can, I have read some of the other comments and perhaps it has something to do with my anti-virus software being on at start up. I have copied the log here. Any advice will be welcome.

Immediate suspects are the additions you added to you rsystem that installed kexts (drivers).  From above,
    com.intego.iokit.VBX6NKE            1
    com.intego.iokit.BehavioralKext            1
    com.intego.kext.VirusBarrier.AppBarrierKPI            10.6.8

    com.globaldelight.driver.BoomDevice            1.1
    com.huawei.driver.HuaweiDataCardACMData            4.2
    Two experiments you can try.
    1.  Boot in safe mode and see if you can shut down normally.  All thise additions won't be running in safe mode so this test would indicate it is one of them causing the problem.
    2. Uninstall all the intego VirusBarrier stuff.  That's my first guess and the troublemaker.

  • Could my months-old kernel panic be related to overheating/fan troubles?

Greetings, all. At a certain point last year my computer's only functionality was a kernel panic. Startup and restart would yield either a crash in the middle of booting, or a KP after the computer was up and running for only a minute. All checks have been undertaken and all forms of trouble-shooting has been done: the hard drive was replaced, the hardware checks were done with the diagnostic disk that came with the unit, the AppleCare plan, and TechTool Pro (no hardware issues were detected; RAM was checked again and again and slots were switched, etc.).
And then it worked. The unit was working for a full day without hitches or glitches; it was like brand new. And then the next day the KP returned like before, and this is with a new hard drive and a whole new install of the OS (most recent one is Tiger). I live in Los Angeles, and my theory is that on the particular day it worked like a charm was a day on which the air conditioning made my home quite cool, and it was on for a full day previous to this. It is not uncommonly hot where I live, and I feel that the computer's heat management system has taken a turn for the worse, and the fact that it worked was aided by the cool air of my home.
This is the only logical issue that I can think that would remain. This is a dual 1 GHZ Quicksilver purchased in January of 2002, and the KP problem has been the <only> remotely serious issue I have encountered. If I am correct that I might have a usable computer if the heat issue is sorted out, what equipment do I need to buy? I have searched this forum for advice and some have told others to buy a new fan, but is that the extent of my needs? Is the motherboard becoming too hot and if so would just a new fan do the trick?
I would appreciate it if some of you kind users would tell me what is thought of my theory re: the air conditioning (and if you wonder why I just do not have the air on more often, it is not needed where I am except for the most scorching days of the year, which will not come again for months). And if heat is my worry, any advice on what to buy and from which manufacturer would be much appreciated.
I have tried what I believe to be every other obvious and not so obvious diagnostic check and the above is the only one that holds any water. It has become apparent that it cannot be attributed to software, as it froze upon either boot-up or not even using an application, and since the drive was replaced with a new OS, I can't see how it's OS or drive related (to test the theory that perhaps it's my install disk of Tiger, I went and did clean installs of previous revs of OS X and the KP is there, regardless).
    Thank you!
    Vince
