7.0.2 quits when ipod plugged in....???

I just purchased a new shuffle, since my old one died a quick death. Upon mounting it, it forced me to download the new 7.0.2 version of itunes. I did. Now, when I open itunes, it prompts me EVERY TIME to agree with the licensing agreement AND the entire program quits when I mount the ipod and attempt to do anything to it. (for example, if I click on the shuffle, then click on the library, itunes just quits).
Anyone?

I think it's fixed. I followed the instructions on this thread:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=717600&tstart=0
and reinstalled 7.0. First I put iTunesX.pkg and iTunes 7.0.2 in the trash, then I ran the installer. iTunes still behaved badly until I emptied the trash. Now iTunes and my iPod play nicely together unless I click on the iPod while it's still loading, in which case iTunes crashes again.

  • ITunes "unexpected quit" when ipod plugged in?

Hello! I've never had this problem before. I apologize if this topic seems similar to others, but I noticed there were a few differences in problems. Whenever I plug in my ipod (version 1.2 of the photo ipod) to my ibook, iTunes (4.8) will crash (i.e. "unexpected application quit" msg pops). My ipod will look like it's charging along w/ the msg "Do Not Disconnect" but it no longer shows "Ipod is Updating". If I don't plug in my ipod, itunes will work and none of my music has been deleted. So as of now - my ipod actually shows no music in it at all (all my photos and files that I store are still in it though). Please tell me how to fix this problem. Thank you in advance.

    hi allimal!
iTunes works alright until I plug in my iPod, then it shuts down saying something about iTunes has unexpectedly encountered an error and must shut down.
what version of itunes do you have? to check, go "help > about itunes", and wait for the version number to scroll up from the bottom. for example, i have a 6.0.4.2.
    if you've got a 6.0.2.23, see:

  • Itunes quits when I plug-in my ipod

    Hello,
After I did the software upgrade for itunes it quits when I plug-in my ipod. When the ipod is not connected, itunes works fine. As soon as I try to connect the ipod, itunes quits. Any suggestions?

I'm having the exact same problem. My Itunes works for about a minute and about 15-20 songs get downloaded onto my Ipod and then itunes quits unexpectedly. And just like you, all of my problems have started with the upgrade to Itunes 8.
I hope someone can help us with this problem! It's becoming really frustrating.

  • ITunes quits when I plug in my iPod Nano

    Good day,
When I plug in my iPod nano, iTunes opens and starts to sync my iPod and then after about 6 secs iTunes closes unexpectedly. My iPod is no longer visible on my desktop even though it is still plug into my computer via a USB port.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and am still having the same problem.
I also tried to restore my iPod, but can't figure out how to do this without iTunes and I can't restore using iTunes because it keeps closing unexpectedly before I can complete the operation.
Any help would really be appreciated.
    thank you,
    Cedartable

Someone told me how to prevent my iPod from syncing when I plugged it into my iMac: go into Preferences in iTunes. Click on Devices. Tick the Prevent ipods ... from syncing automatically. Open iTunes. Plug in your ipod. Click on your iPod. Choose Restore.
I did a Restore and now my iPod is syncing just fine and iTunes is not closing unexpectedly. Yay.

  • ITunes 8 shuts down (error pop-up) when iPod plugged in.

I recently updated to itunes 8 on a Windows XP. I can run iTunes and play music, except when I plug in my iPod. When I plug it in iTunes freezes and comes up with "iTunes has encountered an error and needs to shut down". Conversely, my iPod is recognised by Windows - it does the little sound when its plugged in; and its charging while its connected to the USB. Therefore the problem seems to be in syncing?
I have tried so many things. I have restarted my computer, tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes (x2), I have restarted my iPod several times, and I have tried installing QuickTime separately (I read it might have been a glitch with QuickTime). I'm so frustrated, hopefully you guys will be able to guide me in the right direction
    Cheers.

  • ITunes quits when iPod attached

OK, My mac crashed this morning and since then, when I plug in my iPod with iTunes running, it quits. I can get it to work from an alternate login, so I have tried trashing all the itunes and ipod plist files on my main login and replacing them with the ones on my alternate login. I also moved all the folders named "sync service" and "sync services" onto the desktop. Repaired permissions, ran disk warrior. Nothing works! I know I had this problem several months ago and forgot to save the solution!
Anyone remember the solution to this?

Update: I tried everything I could find on here and finally itunes recognized the ipod. That was yesterday.
Today, the ipod won't power up, won't charge, won't do anything. It's about a year old.
    Help! What's wrong now!!!!!!

  • ITunes 10.3.1.55 opens when iPod plugged in

    Hello,
I have iTunes configured to not open automatically when I plug my iPod touch 4G in, but it still opens automatically when I plug it in.
I am unable to enable or disable the checkbox to Open iTunes when this iPod is connected.
Has anyone else been able to stop iTunes from opening when plugging their iPod or iPhone in?
    Thanks,
    Dave

Thank you for your answer, but it's not really helpful since I need to manually manage my music because I don't use iTunes as my music program.  I was able to solve my problem by disabling the iTunesHelper process.

  • Computer goes to blue screen when ipod plugged in.

I have tried all angles on this and still haven't been able to figure out.  Can somebody please offer some new knowledge?  I have tried some older suggestions awithout resolution.  Here is what is happening using Windows 7/lastest updated itunes and ipod 80g classic:
My ipod was completely erased after trying to update through itunes as i normally do.  Now when i plug ipod into the itunes, it will not be recognized in the left column and after about 3 minutes my entire computer will go to blue screen and reboot itself.  I have tried restoring, checked diagnostics on ipod.  I think I may need some more info on opening itunes in safe mode and beginning from there, however I'm open for any other suggestions/links.  Thank You

First off, have you made sure your Windows OS is up to date with all the latest patches and updates?  Have you also checked with your PC's manufacturer (such as Dell, Toshiba, etc) to make sure you have all the latest drivers, firmware and BIOS installed?
Does the PC ever blue screen when the iPod is NOT connected?

  • "USB device not recognized" when ipod plugged in???

    (ipod mini 4gb)
When I plug my ipod into my laptop I get the message: "USB device not recognized." It says the device has malfunctioned!!! If I click on this error message it says my ipod is an unknown device and no drivers are installed for it???
It was working fine until a few days ago. If i reset it I can charge it up but that's all, it still does not appear in itunes or on my computer.
I've tried eveything on the help website but nothing works! Can anyone help?!
    patriot 3050   Windows XP

ok my question is do you have a mac or windows based laptop
here is why and what happened to my ipod mini
my ipod mini was connected to my macintosh charging while i was using my imac and it came up with a system update 10.4.3 i installed it and finished installing it and afterwards my apple wouldn't recongnize my ipod mini or even display it one the screen i found out by myself that when the apple update got to the end of the update it installed new hard drive drivers but also installed the drivers on the ipod mini which locked out the mini's internal hard drive and my mini then stop responding it would play music and charge but wouldn't connect to the computer
so what i did to fix it was this
i went into utilites in mac os x tiger or any version of os x has this and selected disk utility you will notice that the ipod will appesr in disk utility but not on the desktop this is due to a recent system update driver that isn't compatible with the internal drive on the ipod mini so in disk utility just select format the drive in a mac os partition standard works the best it will then format the ipod and the ipod will apear in the desktop again but not as a ipod let me explain when you format the ipod using the disk utility it formats and even erases the firmware of of the hard drive on the mini so when you are done formating the ipod run the ipod updater to reinstall the ipod's operating system and presto your ipod will now work again
warning: i don't know how to fix this on a ipod in windows so if this is a windows based laptop you need to find someone witha macintosh to do this with sorry

  • ITunes Un-expectantly quits when iPod touch 1st generation is connected.

Okay so I think that I have tried everything possible for this but I am not sure. My iPod touch started killing iTunes on wednesday for no reason at all. I got the classic, "iTunes Un-Expectantly Quit". For the first time I thought it must have been a bug , but It keeps happening. I have reinstalled iTunes, and restored my iPod to factory settings to no avail. Is there something I am missing?

    Hi There
You may be one of the few customers who has been affected by the 2.2.1 upgrade causing crashes in iTunes Problem.
I came across this article on macrumors today
After the iPhone 2.2.1 firmware update, some users found they had persistent problems with iTunes crashing with both iPhones and even iPods. Apple has issued the following email to some of the affected customers:
    Dear Customer,
Recently, we uncovered an issue which was causing iTunes to unexpectedly quit when synced with an iPod or an iPhone. This issue impacted a small number of users, and we have identified your account as potentially being affected.
If you have experienced this issue, please follow these steps in order to sync your iPod or iPhone with iTunes:
    1. Launch iTunes
    2. Select "Deauthorize Computer" from the Store menu
    3. Enter your iTunes Store Account ID and Password, then click the Deauthorize button
    4. Next, choose "Authorize Computer" from the Store menu
    5. Enter your iTunes Store Account ID and Password, then click the Authorize button
Once you have successfully deauthorized and reauthorized your computer, you should be able to >>sync your iPod or iPhone to iTunes.
I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience that you may have experienced as a result of this issue.
Thank you for being an iTunes Store customer.
    iTunes Store Team
The fix has been circulating on the internet for a number of days and many readers have reported that this procedure corrects the problem. Some, however, have to take the additional step of "purchasing" a Free iTunes App after following the steps before syncing will work again.
    Hope this helps

  • Slow when iPod plugged in, fine when syncing

When I plug my iPod (5G Video, 30GB) into my PC, iTunes suffers a major slowdown, using almost 100% of my CPU. As soon as it starts syncing files, everything goes back to normal. Any ideas/suggestions?

  • ITunes shuts down when iPod plugged in?  iPod corrupt?

I'm sorry if this was posted before...but I looked through a few pages of this board and didn't find it so I'm posting it....
When I plug in my iPod to update it, it says that my iPod file or whatever is corrupt...and the iTunes says it has encountered an error and needs to close. If I start iTunes again, it says it needs to close as soon as it starts up. So, there is no way my iPod is updating.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
    please help!
    thanks if you do

okay, let's try getting a crash log to the Discussions Hosts, so they can throw it over the fence to the Apple engineers, so they can have a look at it.
Typically, you'll need to configure Dr. Watson on your PC in order to generate crash logs. Windows start menu -> Run. Type in "cmd". Hit return. At the prompt in the command line window that comes up, type in
    drwtsn32 -i
    And hit return.
This will create crash logs in Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson\. There'll usually be a file in here called "drwtsn32.log"
prior to collecting the itunes crash log, delete any existing crash logs in there. (we want to make sure we send the correct crash log.)
plug the ipod in, collect the crash log, and send it to a discussions host
    in the email:
    (1) let them know the precise version number of itunes that you're using. (go into your "Help > About iTunes" to doublecheck.)
    (2) let them know the precise version of the ipod updater you're using.
    (3) include the URL to this thread so that whoever gets the email has some context, but also explicitly mention that you're getting this when you plug in the ipod.

  • I tunes reads laptop memory when ipod plugged in

I have abn i pod nano which until today has worked fine... but from today when i plug my nano onto sync lead.. i tunes operns as normanl but then askes me to register nano... in the left field it seems to read the laptop memory when the ipod is higlighted.... i.e telling me i hav 40 gig of free memory
    Any idea?? please help!!!!

Do you have any other networked drives or external drives? I have experienced the problem with a Shuffle on a PC that is connected to network drives.
The solution is fairly simple yet not obvious. You need to force a drive letter for the Nano because XP is getting confused. It is trying to assign the same drive letter as something else (your 40GB drive) and reporting the wrong info.
    1. Go to Control Panel and open Administrative tools.
    2. Click on Computer Management
    3. In Computer Management highlight Disk Management at the bottom of the list.
    4. Now you should see all of your drives, including the Nano. The Nano should have the short name you gave it. Click on the drive representing your Nano and right click. Select Change Drive Letter and Paths...
    5. You will see a window listing your drive and the buttons, Add, Change, Remove, OK, and Cancel. Click Change.
    6. Now there is a new window. Make sure Assign the following drive letter: is checked and use the drop down box on the right side to select your new drive letter. Select something far way from the rest of your drives - I, J, K etc...
    7. Click OK.
    8. You will see a notice about changing a drive letter. Click Yes.
    9. Your drive should now have a new letter and iTunes will be able to read it properly.
You may have to do this twice before XP remembers to set that drive letter from then on. After that you should no longer have any problems.
    Take care.
