7.02 killed itunes

Just updated 5s and iTunes won't load. It's hangs/soft crash on blank screen in iTunes

Hi all,
This issue should be fixed by now. Just in case it isn't, I wanted to add a visual to the useful solutions provided other folks in all the threads about this problem.
If the iTunes Store is in the wrong language or the wrong currency, then...
1. go to the main page of the store (click the little Home icon up at the top if you need to get back there)
2. scroll all the way to the bottom
3. choose your own country from the "My Store" menu (which may be in a different language):
Special thanks to all the iTunes users that posted helpful solutions about this today! =)

So itunes what is the deal why is it that every time you send me an update something happens either it is on my mac pro or on my pc. Look I NEED MY IPAD every day ok and now for the past three-days it has killed me not to have it and work from it.... Bang Dead Please do not tell me that I need to start to look at droids!!!!!!!!! I am Apple
    So help me quick !!!!!!!!!

When I try to de-install it Bam I get i itunes miniplayer.resources is not a valid filename.
That's generally related to trouble with the iTunes.msi for your existing installation.
Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • Microsoft's Security Update kills iTunes if on a Domain Server!

Do You Use iTunes at work? Is your computer logged in to a Domain Server? Did you just update your computer with Microsoft’s latest Security Patch (as of 1/6/06)?
Then you might have a problem. I’m sure that Microsoft will probably figure out a way to fix this someday, but for now, iTunes will no longer function for you in this scenario. The problem is that iTunes needs to access your My Music Folder. If your domain server is set up like the one I use, then your My Music folder resides in you’re My Documents folder, which lives on a Domain Server, not on the computer in front of you. This was not a problem before this patch. Now, something that Microsoft’s security patch did has blocked iTunes from being able to access the folder on the Domain Server.
Now, if you were like me, you updated your Computer Friday with the new security patch and shut it down for the weekend to save out planet’s energy resources. Monday, you powered up your computer and started to work. At some point, you thought you might like to hear a tune. You clicked on the iTunes shortcut and BAM! You got a bad message:
No matter what you did, you could not launch iTunes. Don’t even try it, nothing will help, unless you follow the steps below. I should note that these steps were discovered by using Apple’s info at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302398. The problem with their steps is that you can’t even find you’re My Music folder with Tweak UI after the security update if it’s on a Domain Server.
This Discovery is attributed to one R. Crippen. His love for iTunes drove him away from his onus of real work so he could spend time breaking Microsoft’s attempted sabotage of iTunes.
    Here we go.
    1. Download and install Tweak UI from the Microsoft PowerToys website at http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx Note: This utility is for Windows XP only.
    2. Launch Tweak UI. In the column on the left, click on the plus symbol next to My Computer and select Special Folders. Look in the Folder list in the Right Pane. You will notice that My Music is not in the list. Close Tweak UI.
    3. Open Add/Remove Programs and check the box for “Show Updates.” Find the latest Security Update in the list. Select it and click Remove. Reboot after the update is removed.
    4. Create a new location where you would like the My Music folder to live. I made an iTunes folder at the root level of my C drive. Put it anywhere you like (not on the Domain Server).
    5. Go to your My Documents folder. Copy the My Music folder to the new location you picked for it.
    6. Launch Tweak UI. In the column on the left, click on the plus symbol next to My Computer and select Special Folders. Look in the Folder list in the Right Pane. You will notice that My Music is now in the list.
    7. Select My Music in the drop-down list. Click the Change Locations button. Select the new location and click OK.
    8. OK, now that Windows will be looking in a new location for the My Music folder, Launch iTunes. If everything went well, it works!
    9. You’re not done yet. That Security patch was probably put out there for a reason. Update your computer and reinstall the latest security patch again. You can probably find the Windows Update link at the top of your Programs list.
    10. Reboot the computer after the update.
    11. Launch itunes
    12. Everything works! You have an updated computer on the Domain Server and iTunes works again! Yay!

I'm still keeping an eye out for more cases like the 2 I've seen myself. I need a bigger testing audience, but I don't think the circumstances are very common.
So, your work computer is on a Domain. Is your "My Documents" folder on your Domain Server or is it on your local computer? That's where the problem arises, when itunes can't access the "My Music" where the itunes folder lives.
Since my "My Music" folder in the My Documents folder was living on a server and not my local computer, something prevented iTunes from communicating with it. I know that the security update was the culprit, because once I uninstalled the update, iTunes worked again.
Hopefully, I can find more cases of the problem just to verify. I just hope that is anyone else runs into the issue, this will help them. If it's a real issue.

  • How to kill iTunes timeout when a CD is bad??!?!

Ok, I have a really frustrating problem.
Was listening to a CD in iTunes when all of a sudden playback stops, the CD is scratched and the CD Drive is trying to search the CD.
Here's the problem, it NEVER successfully recovers from the CD scratch, which is fine, I don't expect iTunes to be able to play a damaged disc.
What is not fine is that it takes literally TEN MINUTES before I can do anything, eject the CD, quit iTunes, force quit iTunes, eject the cd with the finder, or just in general have iTunes respond to anything, AT ALL.
Why the **** would they program it like this? I literally waited TEN MINUTES for iTunes to decide to give me any control back, and I could eject the cd.
This is a HUGE frustration for me, is there somewhere I can lower the amount of time iTunes takes to decide a cd is bad, like for example 15 seconds instead of 600 seconds?

Have you tried to 'option' +  + 'esc' to Force Quit and relaunch the Finder?

  • ##Id_String service kills itunes

    Hey,
So things appear to be working now, but I am not comfortable with this situation, so any help would be appreciated. Here's the situation.
    1. Under XP, I was using itunes fine. Got an ipod (new nano) and when I connected it, itunes hung up and never worked again.
    2. reinstalled, cleared registry, etc. created new user, followed all suggested paths and could not fix it. Was told to reinstall my OS. Made me angry.
    3. Gave up and am now dual-booting Vista. Clean install. New drive. Knew it was coming anyway (was beta tester)
    4. itunes worked fine for a while and then suddenly WHAM, same problem as in XP.
    5. Now, having only like 3 programs installed, I figured I could solve it. Indeed, I did. If I disable the service labeled ##Id_String...(large number) from Apple Computer on startup, itunes now works and my ipod syncs!
    6. So the problem is not a compatibility problem with other software, as disabling / uninstalling EVERYTHING else does not solve it. However, disabling this Apple service does. I don't know what this service does or how itunes works without it. When this service IS running, itunes will open, but will not respond to any input. It does not stop responding, interestingly, but the window cannot even be moved. It is totally frozen.
    Any tips would be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    -Colin Theys

Yes, Yahoo! Music Unlimited has streaming music; you can either stream any track in the library, or use their radio service (LAUNCHcast Plus, the premium version of Yahoo! Music's free radio service). However, if you want it, act quickly; the price is going up November to $9.88. If you pay your $59.88 now (remember, no refunds), you'll have it at that price for a whole year.
If you don't want to jump right now, I'd suggest staying with Rhapsody To Go, since you're familiar with Rhapsody already. With RTG now set to become MSN's subscription service (part of the Microsoft-Real peace deal), and with price pressures from YMU easing, it's definitely here to stay.
There's two other "to go" subscription services in the US besides YMU, RTG, and Napster To Go: If you have Musicmatch 0. (officially for Dell DJ owners, but do a search here for instructions on how you can get it), its subscription service is "to go"; and FYE Download Zone (along with Napster, one of the music stores built into WMP 0) has a "to go" option as well. However, both use the same library as YMU (MusicNet) and thus have few advantages over YMU. (RTG and NTG each have their own libraries.)
At present, the only other countries with "to go" services AFAIK are Canada (NTG only), the UK (NTG, HMV Digital and Virgin Digital), and Ireland (HMV Digital only, thru UK site but available to UK & Ireland). I understand a German version of NTG is just around the corner, which would be the first subscription service in a predominately non-English-speaking country.

  • IOS 7.0.2 upgrade killed iTunes

After I upgraded my iPhone 5 64gb to iOS 7.0.2 i tried to open iTunes and it keeps crashing. I booted my phone with same results. Also, updated iPad mini 16gb, but the iTunes opend just fine. Any ideas?

I would suggest making sure you have a back up on either iTunes on you computer or on iCloud. From there, go into your Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings at the very top.  Now, resetting your phone does not erase your iPhone, it just resets all of the settings.  If that doesn't work, perform a "Hard Reset" by holding onto your Sleep/Wake and Home Button for about 30sec or until you see the phone turns off and shows the Apple Logo.  Once you see the Apple Logo, then you can let go and see if they issue persist.
The last resort is, Erasing All Content and Settings and setting the phone up as a new device and seeing if the issue persist.  If not, erase the phone again and restore from your backup, either iTunes on your computer or iCloud.
***Backing up your information is very important. Do not attempt the last step unless you have a back up or all else will be lost***
    Good luck!

Always itunes got accidentally stopped etc. etc.
Please if anyone know help me out on this.
    thank u very much

this question is asked a lot (it's always a good idea to use the search discussions box on the right of the screen --------> - you may get your answer a lot quicker). you can only transfer itunes purchases (either that have been bought on the ipod or on itunes on your computer) from ipod to itunes.
you will need 3rd party software to get everything else back to your computer, google 'ipod to computer'.

  • Itunes 6.0.1.3 is killing my network!

The last time I updated all my podcasts was 12-8-5. I had not run Itunes since then. I fired it up this past weekend and something really strange happened.
It was unable to update any podcasts. Also, my laptop had disconnected from my wireless network. I closed Itunes but my system still was unable to see any wireless network. I rebooted and was able to connect again. I then left the wireless properties open and started Itunes. My wireless connection began to drop in speed over the course of 1 minute from 54 -> 36 -> 24 -> 11 -> 1 -> 0 Mbps when it again disconnected and would not see wireless. I rebooted and started all over again. This time I closed Itunes before it killed the connection and within 1 minute my speed is back up to 54 Mbps.
This is also happening on my hardwired Desktop! As soon as I fire up Itunes, the lights on my switch and router and every AP start flashing like crazy! I am talking about three switches and a wireless bridge. The activity lights on all devices go crazy until I kill Itunes on my desktop. As soon as I do, the activity stops, but I am forced to reboot all my network devices to get the network up again.
No, I am not the only person in the world seeing this behavior. I just listened to Leo Laporte's KFI Tech Guy podcast from the first week of December and a caller was describing the exact same issue:
    http://leoville.tv/radio/ShowNotes/Show201#toc3
I have also found another reference to the same thing here:
    http://forums.macnn.com/archive/index.php/t-246946.html
    And another here:
    http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windowsxp.networkweb/browsethread/thread/12be291b47a65868/04144bc0accb23f8#04144bc0accb23f8
Basically, running Itunes kills my network!
I have turned off all automatic network functions in Itunes, like automatic podcast updates and search for shared music. Turning off search for shared music seems to have solved the need to reboot every network device in my house, but running Itunes still causes the death of my wireless connection on my notebook.
I can only postulate that this MUST be the result of a recent XP update since Itunes was working just fine a few weeks ago. To test this theory, I will be doing a parallel OS install of XP SP2 on my laptop with no additional updates and Itunes the only installed application. I might try doing this in Virtual PC first, but I am not sure I could trust its results.

    OK,
I just installed Itunes 6.0.1.3 on a fresh install of XP SP2 in Virtual PC.
Simply starting Itunes, No subscriptionsn no podcasts to update, and the same results.
Within 1 minute, the network connection on the VPC was dead and reported limited or no connectivity. Before it died, the wireless on my laptop began to decrease in speed. As soon as the network connection in VPC died, it began rising again. As with my desktop, my network devices activity lights lit up almost solid! The ethernet bridge that connects my ReplayTV to the network went solid on activity and my Replay was knocked off the network. It would appear the 6.0.1.3 is spewing a bunch of garbage on the network to the point that it is killing all my devices.
Whenever Itunes is open on any system on the network (In its default config), ALL devices lose network connectivity.
Now I will try an older version on the virtual PC and see what happens..

  • Activating itunes match kills my network

activating itunes match consistently brings my 15mb internet connection to a crawl. Packet loss etc.. kill itunes and my overall connection goes back to 15 mb. While iTunes Match is running and doing its thing connection is like 1 or 2mb and packet loss. This is a consistent repeatable problem.

You haven't said if the first iTunes Match session on your computer has been completed.  If it has not, then it's possible that's contributing to your troubles.
Even if it is not, the first suggestion I have is to go to the settings on your Music app and toggle the new setting that appears once you have match enabled.  Set it so show only the songs that are on your iPod Touch.  By default it will show you what is in the cloud, plus what is local on the iPod Touch.  So long as that music got on the iPod Touch from the computer you are using for iTunes Match, it should all still be there.
You may also want to power off the iPod Touch, wait a minute and power it back up.
If you want to submit feedback to Apple, you can do it at this link.
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html
I should have added that if you haven't had a chance to read up on how iTunes Match works, you can learn a lot at this link.  Be sure to check out the viewo at the top of the page.  Also the page has links to a lot of knowledge base documents, including some that deal specifically with iOS devices.

  • After upgrade to  9.1.0.79 iTunes freezes after importing CD

I've just upgraded this morning to iTunes 9.1.0.79 on my Windows 7 laptop.
After the upgrade, everything looked OK, except when loading a CD it seemed to be loaded by Windows Media player rather than iTunes (and didn't show up in the iTunes DEVICES) so reassociated iTunes when prompted and rebooted laptop
Still had the same issue, but found that if I didn't start iTunes first, then it would prompt me to import the CD. However then found that after loading the last track, iTunes would freeze up and show as "Not responding" in Taskmgr. The only way out was to kill iTunes process. All album tracks were imported, except the last one.
After a couple of reboots and checks, I was just doing a final re-run to make this post and everything suddenly seems to now be working... i.e. with iTunes running, if I put in my CD it now imports it for me and doesn't hang
I am a little nervous about this as I haven't done any changes since it didn't work...
Has anyone seem something like this before with this version ?

OK, so here's what is happening now....
The only way I can get CDs imported now is to
    1. load a CD without iTunes loaded, so it then launches iTunes for me and I can click the Import button
    2. After that, if I change the CD then iTunes will give me the prompt to import the CD
    3. After two or three CD changes, it stops prompting me, so I have to go back to step 1 again
Bizairely, even when it doesnt list the CD, it still allows me to eject the CD succesfully, so it seems to know it's there....
Seems like a bug in the latest update to me, as I had auto import of CDs working fine just a week ago.....

  • ITunes  11.1.1 (newest) is hanging at random times at least once a day. MAC 10.7.5

I have been forced to kill Itunes several time over the last 3 or 4 days. Itunes hangs, I usuall find this out when Apple TV will not connect (message is it can not load the Itunes Libtsty. My mac is a pro, and can not be upgraded past 10.7.5
Once I restart Ituens it works fine for a while (usually from 12 to 15 hours then it seem to hang again. Most of the time I am not on the computer and there is nothing I can idenfiy that would cause the problem.
Is any one else having such a problem?

Same here. Mac Mini is always on as media server, and not used for much else. I stream from iTunes to ATV at night, but when I get up the next morning and check the computer, iTunes hangs.
Recent updates seem to have made the problem worse.

  • Itunes artwork display issue and a fix for  'unknown error occured (-50)'

Too bad they dont have stickies. This would be a great one.
This is a thorough fix for art work and the -50 error.
If you see artwork in itunes, first verify that the artwork is in the mp3 tag using a program like "tag and rename" http://www.softdepia.com/tagrename_download1291.html
If the artwork shows up in tag and rename, then you added it correctly.
If the artwork isn't displaying on ipod, delete the song and retransfer to the ipod. Next make sure the "view artwork" check box is checked. To do this connect your iPod to iTunes and there will be a checkbox that should be checked to see if you want artwork to show up on your iPod.
If you get this message -
The ipod cannot be updated. An unknown error occured (-50).
And have no artwork at all in you IPOD , dont fret. I am getting there..
NO you DO NOT NEED to FORMAT YOUR IPOD YET as commonly posted. I have tested and retested the following fix-
    Eject IPOD. Kill ITUNES.
    Backup the following files
    iTunes Library.itl
    iTunes Music Library.xml
& anything in the Previous Itunes library folder
and delete them. More info on these at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93732
Dont worry, its much easier to recreate the database than to wipe your IPOD.
Next Start up ITUNES. Plug in IPOD. You now should have a empty database.
At this time, uncheck copy ARTWORK to IPOD, and when it's done deleting artwork, CHECK Copy ARTWORK to IPOD.
It now should sucessfully display ARTWORK and not get the -50 error!!
Now, goto you ITUNES Music folder and drag to the library and it will add you music back in, including your PODCASTS.
All you need to do is click the RESUBSCRIBE button and you are back in business!
IF this fails, which i cant DUPLICATE anymore, try this
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300248
Its the DREADED IPOD FORMAT article.
But you probably wont need it if you follow all these steps.
Post back if this doesnt work and if it does, give me some credit;)

Just as an fyi, to shorten this procedure instead of deleting the files i found out you and open the .itl files and delete all the lines in it so its an empty file.
Then open itunes, and it will rebuild the database with the files from the .xml file.
This saves you from having to rescan the songs..

  • Itunes goes not responding after add file or folder

After running itunes for several years on my computer, the programs becomes "not responding" when I try to add a file or folder or import. Upon selecting File Menu > Add file or add folder, I get the hour glass cursor and no other action (no windows open, no error messages). I have to go to task manager and kill itunes in order to get the program functioning. I have uninstalled itunes and re-installed it and continue to have the same issue. Any ideas on what I should try next?

Since upgrading to Lion and iTunes 10.4, cover flow is not displaying the currently playing song. It will simply display the first cover in the playlist. Also, the screen saver starts during playback, unlike Snow Leopard. Any ideas on how to fix? I have already repaired disk and permissions but problem persists.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!
I tried restarting my mac and my iphone a bunch of times, reinstalling iTunes after deleting dozens of files, and it didn't help at all.
I re-installed X-Code (had to use Activity Monitor to kill iTunes Helper in the middle of the install) and then my iPhone synced again!

  • ITunes 10.6.1.7 won't stay closed

Everytime I close iTunes is restarts itself.  I have followed instructions and removed iTunes from start up, and checked all my settings.  There is no reason for this to be happening that I can find.

I do, and I will give this a try...but use of my gaming software is more important than the nussance of having to kill iTunes with task manager.  But, at least then I will know what the problem is.
edit...well, this seems to have solved the problem.  I wish Apple and Logitech would get on the same page again.  It's like they had a divorce or something about a year ago and since then nothing works right between the two.  As soon as Logitech fixes the issues, Apple makes a new one. And neither company seems all to concerned at how it is affecting their customers.
