7.1.1 update ruined my earbuds!

Updated to 7.1.1...
Tried 3 different pairs...
earbuds no longer work!
Sound without earbuds works fine.
HELP!

- Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
If not under warranty Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours.

  • IOS 6 Update ruined my 4s.

I bought my iphone 4s on December 25th 2011. It worked perfectly, I absolutely love my phone.
Although, ever since I downloaded the IOS6 Update, it has been glitching, crashing, and I've had to reboot it about 5X a day.
It's not fair.. I payed 700$ for my phone, it should work.
I don't have a lot of memory used on my phone so its not over loaded. Cookies are deleted and everything.
I've had my mac for two years and it works great and no update ruined it. I don't know why this is happening!?
I have a warranty with Best Buy here that i pay 12.99 a month for, but I'm not sure if that would be enough for them to see if I tell them that its been glitching.
I don't even care if I get the Iphone 5, I just want my phone to work properly !
Any tips or suggestions ? Thank you !

As bhazel suggests.  I've had Macs for 28 years and no update ruined any of them.

  • Did OS update ruin my iPod Touch?

Since updating the OS on his iPodTouch last night, the iPod is no longer recognized by any computer and only shows the screen showing it needs to be plugged into iTunes. I did that but iTunes and my PC never recognized that the iPod was plugged in. Did the update ruin my iPod???? Does Apple repair/replace in these instances?

    Hello,
I`m sorry to hear that your Ipod has been wrecked and needs to be plugged into Itunes. I will try my best to help with your problem!
    Try the following things:
-Hold down the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 sec. or until Apple Logo appears
-Did you try connecting it to a different computer? Maybe the computer doesnt recognize it, but maybe another computer might?
-Restart the computer. Sometimes this happens to me, it says plug it into Itunes, and then I do, but it pops up an error message. I just restart the computer, then it works again.
    Hope that helps!
If the above things do not work, can you please respond back ASAP as I will try to find another solution.
    Thanks,
    Pizza98704
P.S. I updated my Ipod Touch, 4th generation to IOS 6.0.1 on Wednesday January 30th,2013.
No problems have happened yet, since the update.

  • Imovie '08 update ruined my movie (i think)!!!

I just recently updated imovie '08 and before I had done so my videos looked fine on imovie, Quicktime, and on YouTube.  As soon as I started imovie up again, the footage in my movies are pixilated, rasterized... they just look awful!  I think the update ruined my movie because previous movies I've uploaded to YouTube using imovie '08 look fine!  I've tried re-importing the footage into imovie again and posting it on YouTube but it still looks like a wreck.  But when I open the footage files in Quicktime, everything looks ok.  Is there a way this can be fixed so that I can edit my movies on imovie '08?  If not how do i undo the update?

I have problems with both the sound and visuals in the viewer. Pressing the space bar on thumbnails in my project library sometimes plays them in the viewer but either with sound from a different project (bizarre) and/or horribly pixelated, unrecognisable images. The bottom line is that I can't use iMovie 08 either for new projects or old ones. I like the application, despite the criticisms leveled at it, and have been recommending it to friends and colleagues. Alas, my faith has not been rewarded by Apple. If anyone knows how to fix this, I'd appreciate some help.

  • May 30 update ruined my TV resolution

The software update on May 30 ruined my TV resolution. The screen is too dark and none of the HD channels are HD. The guide is nearly impossible to see. Anyone else in Virginia experiencing this?

This is not a complaint we have received from the numerous others who have received it. First start by checking all the different video settings in the boxes menu. Second you will want to adjust the TV's picture settings. As far as the HD channels not being HD, none of the changed would have effected this. Make sure your TV is on the correct HD input it needs to be on.

  • Warning QT 7.3 update ruins Quicktime Pro features

Don't install this update, if you own Final Cut Studio 5 and use Quicktime Pro it will ruin your registration. Thanks a lot Apple, way to make my production machine temporarily useless! I'm going to consider buying Premiere before updating to FCP 6 now. I was going to in January, but I'm so disappointed right now you don't even understand. I bet they won't release a fix for this in a timely fashion either.
    Ridiculous!

The fix : I installed Leopard, and it fixed my Quicktime Pro registration. Horray. I'm glad I wasn't forced to purchase/ upgrade to Final Cut Pro 6 before 2008.
The oddity : This quicktime pro registration issue only affected 1 of my macs.
The saving grace : While I was ranting and confused by why compressor kept exporting video @ 320x240 and figuring out that Quicktime Pro had been disabled I was able to export the quicktime videos on the laptop with leopard and Quicktime 7.3 suprisingly. Video was done on time, no biggie.
I checked at work today and noticed that 4 of our macs (ppc, intel) had the 7.3 update and Tiger and they were not affected.
Sorry for posting before doing extensive research, I was nervous because I needed the videos exported. My complaining is over, beware ye updaters. I'd avoid the Quicktime 7.3 update.
    Thanks

  • 2.2 update RUINS PHONES

I was just in the process of looking to buy a macbook because I have been so thrilled with my mac products and now this.
I went to update my iPhone 3G with the new 2.2 software. First I got an error message. Then, it tells me I have to restore the phone! The kicker: The phone won't restore. In the middle of all this, a co-worker says OMG don't update your phone! It ruined mine!
    Same thing happened to him.
    What's going on here????
    My phone is toast.

    Hi Blaz311,
What exactly does iTunes say when the restore fails?
Are you restoring the iPhone from a Mac or PC?
Make sure the computer has the latest version of iTunes and the iPhone is directly connect to a high speed USB port.
The tips in this article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=307219 will resolve most restore issues.

You should copy your iTunes library from the older computer to your new laptop using one of the methods described in this Apple support document.

  • IPhoto Facebook Update ruined app

I downloaded the Facebook update for iPhoto, but since my Mac OS X Package installer has never worked on my computer (for unknown reasons it always says my destination install dir. is "(null)" and I must free space), I had to use Pacifist to install the package.
After installing, the iPhoto icon went away, and i can no longer start it. I'm currently in Paris and need iPhoto to get pictures off of my camera so I can take more...any help suggestions would be excellently appreciated

    CptGabok
You can use Image Capture (Applications Folder) to get the pics onto your Mac and just store them in a folder.
If the FaceBook update is an export plug-in, try selecting the iPhoto icon in the Applications Folder and go File -> Get Info, and use the Plug-in pane to disable it.

  • A serious error has occurred or how the 7.1 update ruined my life.

Ever since the 7.1 update to Premiere, I've had nothing but problems. The desktop app fails to update for every update, and appears to think it's out of date when it's not and then the icon in the menu bar will be grayed out until I reboot 3-4 times. The "workaround for that seems to be to force quit and uninstall the "previous" version and then download the "new" version from the creative cloud web portal. This wouldn't be that large of an issue, but it happens almost every other day.
Then once I can actually open Premiere, the real fun with errors begins. I have received the "A Serious Error has occurred" screen on 30-40 (not exagerating) delightful occasions in the past couple of weeks, with no real details of what is actually wrong. It usually occurs while trying to fix an issue where my multi-clips aren't showing the audio waveforms in the sequence, but it has happened plenty of other mysterious ways. This is even more complicated, because it's happening on multiple systems and one of them isn't even using the 7.1 update and another is offsite and using different hardware. The same annoying error occurs across them all.
Another super cool "feature" is that Mercury Playback Engine capabilities come and go as they please. Sometimes they work for Premiere or Media Encoder or After Effects, but sometimes they just pick one for that given day and don't let the other apps playback. All of the systems GPU were working just fine in 7.0.1, but now wtf Adobe?
My system specs are varied, but the general idea is this:
    Mac Pro systems (4,1-5,1) 2.3GHz - 2.93GHz
    16-24GB RAM
Nvidia QuadroFX 4800, Nvidia QuadroFX 4000, Nvidia GeForce 9800
    OS X 10.7.4 and 10.7.5
A few of the systems have AJA Kona 3 and Kona 3G
Most of the media is being accessed across 10gigE to a ProMax Platform, and the project files are local on SSD's.
I have the bug report from Apple, so if that helps let me know so I can get that info to someone who cares.

    Hi Kevin,
I'm still planning on attempting the 10.8.5 install on one of the affected systems. In the process, I have uncovered a new issue related to the CUDA acceleration not being there at all on a system that used to have it. That particular Mac Pro system only has a GeForce GT120, but the point is that in CS6 and CC, the CUDA was working until this latest update. The other systems have QuadroFX 4000 and 4800 cards, so those seem to be getting CUDA playback, however it is intermittent.
As for the OS X 10.7.4 not allowing me to install 7.1... That is correct. The Creative Cloud Desktop app was failing updating itself (as it still does on every "update") quite a bit, I don't remember any specific messages, but I did see somewhere along the process that I wasn't able to install the Premiere 7.1 update with my 10.7.4. One of the systems here is have a ton of issues with AE, but that's a whole new thread I think. I will attach some of those errors for kicks, but all of these problems occured with the introduction of the virus that is Creative Cloud into our working environment.
I am working with a wide variety of media: R3D, 5D, F55 4K XAVC, Canon C-300, XDCAM EX, FS-100, ProRes. The projects that I've been having the most issues with lately has the Canon C-300 .MXF media mixed with 5D h.264 as a 2 camera multi-cam set up. The other project that was giving me a lot of trouble right when I installed the Premiere 7.1 update was R3D and F55 4K XAVC. Both issues were the "A Serious Error has occurred. Premiere will try and save your project" vague warning. I usually only lost work since the last Autosave 20 minute interval, but sometimes that is a lot of work and when it happens 10 times in one day, that is unacceptable.
Here are some answers to some more of those questions:
What other software are you running?
These are all possible conflicting software (IMO) that are installed:
    Final Cut Studio 3
    Avid Symphony 6.0.3
    Cinema 4D R14
    RED CineX
    Davinci Resolve
    Nuke7
Adobe CS5.5 and CS6 are still installed
Do you have any third-party effects or codecs installed?
Yes. Trapcode Suite, Primatte, lots of scripts in After Effects. Lots of codecs installed from Sony, Avid, RED, Canon, etc.
I think I've answered most of the other questions in this thread, but hopefully that helps. I will update when I'm able to get 10.8.5 installed. I suppose a clean install of 10.7.5 perhaps might have the same chances of fixing this as well.
    Here is the Premiere Error:
Here are a series of AE errors, that might need their own thread:

  • 10.4.6 update ruined my wireless connection. Please help!

    Hi everyone,
After updating my Powerbook to 10.4.6 the signal level in the airport status indicator dropped for the first time since 2 years. Up till now it has been always on full reception, afterall I am in the same room as the Wifi router. What's much worse though is that now I get frequent (every 2 minutes or so) disconnects and the connection is incredibly slow (even loading something like google.com).
I'm very frustrated, this is the first time my Mac has let me down on something this essential.
I've tried switching to 'use preferred' from the default 'automatic' in the network settings, which someone suggested here, but it didn't help. Moreover, I've never needed to use this setting, it always 'just worked'. I've also tried removing the preferred network, then flushing the cache from the terminal, restarting, adding the preferred network again. No help!!
    Thanks,
    Roman

    Hi dunkelblau!
Thank you!! No idea why, but changing the channel worked, so far.
Why in the world should a system update, and no additional neighbours' wifi stations knock existing channel useless is beyond my comprehension. I will keep testing this, but I've been online for about 10 minutes now with no interruption. Your tip, although very puzzling, worked.
Have a nice evening and thanks again, you saved me a lot of hassle if this keeps on working.

  • Update RUINED iTunes!!!

Ever since I updated to iTunes 7.4.2, my iTunes has been going nuts. Or, not doing anything at all. When I open it, it won't play songs or close, so I have to close it and open it several times before it will play. Then it loses all my album art, ocassionally bringing some of it back, then loses it again.
Acess to the store is iffy-- it keeps giving me errors about opening, playing, buying songs, searching--everything! Then, sometimes when the store loads, all I get are broken links all over.
Just recently, it stopped synching to my iPod. (I have a 2nd gen Nano) This is REALLY cause for concern. I must have my iTunes in working shape again! Can I uninstall the update and go back to my old version? (I think it was version 7.3 for Mac) I knew I shouldn't have updated...

Windows XP will not play the new version of iTunes for some reason, unless you download iTunes and Quicken with almost every other program turned off. Follow these suggestions that worked for me:
    1) Remove Quicktime and iTunes from your computer (via add/remove program link at Start/Control Panel).
    2) Go to Start, Run, and then type msconfig and hit ok.
    3) Under the general tab, click on "selective startup," uncheck "load system services."
    4) Go to the services tab, check "hide all MS Services," uncheck all, thek click only "ipodservice."
    5) Reboot your computer.
    6) Download quicktime from www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone - Save this to your desktop for convenience.
    7) Download iTunes from www.apple.com/itunes/download -Save this to your desktop for convenience
    8) From your desktop, install Quicktime
    9) From your desktop, install iTunes
    10) Go to start, run, type in msconfig, hit ok
    11) At the general tab, select "normal startup," click ok.
    12) Enjoy iTunes once again!!!

  • Updates ruin my system

I had 10.4.3 and I updated all the way to 10.4.10 (PPC). Then I tried to download Safari 3 (beta) after that regular safari disappeared! I cannot download anything, but every time I try to install a new download it flashes in the doc and then does nothing. Software update does not work now.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to help me?
I have lost Safari and must now use an old Internet Explorer.
How do I get Safari back and get my software updater to run?
    Thanks!

Here is what the installer package says in paragraph two of the "License" section of the install:
IMPORTANT NOTE: THIS IS “BETA”, PRE-RELEASE, TIME-LIMITED SOFTWARE MEANT FOR EVALUATION AND DEVELOPMENT PURPOSES ONLY. THIS SOFTWARE SHOULD NOT BE USED IN A COMMERCIAL OPERATING ENVIRONMENT OR WITH IMPORTANT DATA. BEFORE INSTALLING THIS APPLE SOFTWARE, YOU SHOULD BACK UP ALL OF YOUR DATA AND REGULARLY BACK UP DATA WHILE USING THIS APPLE SOFTWARE.
Shouldn't the concern be that too many users don't read this & just automatically click the "Accept" button because the software is from Apple? It isn't as if this is buried in fine print somewhere -- it appears as you see it here, in all caps & bold. Aside from putting this in a 30 point, red font, what do you want Apple do to get people to read & heed it?
Face it. Even if Apple put giant, red "RTFM" stickers on every one of its products (using either the sanitized "Read the Fine Manual" version or the more attention getting, ruder one), some users would not only ignore its message, they would insist it is somehow Apple's fault that they did so.
The focus of this forum is to help other users solve technical problems. IMO, an important part of that is getting the word out that reading this stuff is a great way to prevent problems before they occur.
