7.1.2 upgrade/restore error

Ok, the update forced me to restore.  No problem.  But when chosing to restore from the cloud there were no cloud updates for this phone I have had for 14 months.  However, I know pictures have appeared in the cloud on the iPad even though not consistent.  Fine, chose a restore as new.
My apps had to be manually selected and placed on the phone.  Pictures returned from June1st to current (July 3rd) and a few ransoms from May 2012. I can only get 202 of my 1500 photos.
Here's red the odd part: my safari shows pages open on iPad, as well as those open on the phone before my reset.  ?! So it appears my phone is in space from before the reset, so how do I get it back?!?!  I mostly just want pictures of my son since his birth.
(And no, I guess I haven't plugged it into iTunes at all in the last 14 months. I didn't think I had to with the cloud back up)

It could be corrupted from the update. I'm guessing you did an OTA update?
If you did an OTA update, I might suggest you to backup via iTunes. You can use a separate app if you want to backup only contacts called My Contacts Backup (email backup to yourself or upload to drop box). If you have to backup account passwords as well, you can tick encrypt iphone backup on Itunes. It is better if you remember all your email password then you don't need to to that. Copy photos to computer and save notes.
After a fresh restore via iTunes, you can add everything back. To avoid more inconveniences I would avoid restoring backups from iTunes. Backups can get corrupted as well.

  • IPhone shuts off when I use the internet on the 3G network & I can't upgrade/restore because of network connection error. Any Help?

A few months ago, while on the 3G network, my iPhone 3GS starting turning off randomly when I was using safari or an online app and the battery was somewhere around 5-20%. When this happened the only way to get the phone back on was by fully charging it which sometimes took a few hours even. It wasn't a big deal at the time because it was infrequent and while the phone was at a low battery %. However, in the past few months, around the time I upgraded to iOS 5.1 it started happened more and more often and at higher and higher battery percentages. It is now at a point where my phone shuts off every time I connect to the 3G network regardless of what my battery life is. I have called Rogers several times to complain about this and I have been told it is because of the battery for the most part but I don’t buy it; the problem has got to be more significant than the battery alone because I can listen to music and send texts at anytime and fully use the internet when I am connected to Wi-Fi. I more recently talked to someone in tech support from Rogers who said my phone cannot support the iOS 5.1 software and that is why it is crashing. They also asked if my phone was heating up more now than in the past and it is. They said this was further evidence that my phone was couldn't handle the new software and was basically on overload.  I was told to the best solution was to "Back Up" my iPhone then do a full "Restore". Here is where my next problem comes along. I cannot "Restore" my iPhone without doing an upgrade and every time I attempt to "Upgrade & Restore" an error message pops up that says "There was a problem downloading the software for the iPhone "...". The network connection timed out/was reset. -Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later". I have followed all of the protocol that is readily available online to address this problem but still no success. I disabled my firewall and anti-virus programs, I have ensured my connection is active and stable, I have upgraded to the newest iTunes, I have uninstalled iTunes and all apple programs in the correct order then reinstalled iTunes, I have disabled my DNS cache. Nothing works.
If you have any advise whatsoever please share as it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

I was actually able to upgrade to the newest software, iOS 5.1.1 without connecting to my computer/iTunes but rather directly through my phone when I was home on Wi-Fi. After the upgrade I plugged my phone into a different USB port at the back of my computer and was able to do a full restore. I really don't think the USB port had anything to do with it because I use the same front USB port all the time with my external hard drive and other devices wuth no problems at all; regardless of what the actual solution was, I am now able to connect to iTunes and upgrade/restore without any problems so that half of my problem is resolved.
I have yet to leave my house since doing the upgrade/restore so I am not sure if the problem with my phone crashing when I use the interent on the 3G is still an issue. I will test it today and tomorrow and give you an update.
    Thanks

  • Upgrade and restore error

when i try to restore and upgrade to a new version, i get an unknown error. it says something like "unknown error. iphone can not be restored: error 1015" now i cant use the phone at all. does anyone know how to fix this? thanks in advance!

Try Re-Restarting the phone or turning it off and back on again.
Another thing to try is to hook it up on iTunes and click the "Restart" button on your computer. If that doesn't work I would maybe try press and holding the on/off button and the home button on your phone at the same time until the silver apple symbol comes up.
If none of these things work, I would contact apple or see the Genius Bar.

  • MAIL: The upgrade failed - error occurred during upgrade. launching Mail Import assistant  to repair damaged index did not work

After installing Yosemite, the Mail required an upgrade. the upgrade was completed but resulted in a message: The upgrade failed. error occurred during the upgrade, check continue to launch Mail Import Assistant.
This resulted in an instruction: Your mail index has been damaged. To repair it quit mail. Mail will repair index next time you open mail.
Following this instruction resulted in the same failure message being repeated continuously.
How do I proceed to upgrade the Mail app.?

If doing as the alert directs (relaunching Mail) has no effect, see below.
The new version of Mail stores its database in a different format than the old one, so the database has to be converted before Mail can use it. Sometimes the conversion fails because the old database is corrupt. The easy way to recover is to discard the old database and start afresh. You can do that without losing any messages, provided that:
☞ All your incoming mail accounts are on an IMAP or Exchange server
☞ You store sent messages on the server
☞ You don't have any "On My Mac" mailboxes
Most well-known independent mail services such as iCloud and Gmail are based on IMAP. On the other hand, ISP-hosted mail services almost always use POP. If your ISP is one of your mail service providers (or the only one), you probably can't use this procedure. Ask for further instructions in that case.
If you know that the conditions above are satisfied, continue as follows.
Quit Mail if it's running. Back up all data.
Open the Library folder in your home folder by holding down the option key and selecting
              Go ▹ Library
from the Finder menu bar. Inside it is a subfolder named "Mail." Move that folder to the Desktop. You're not moving the Mail application; you're moving a folder named "Mail."
Open the Internet Accounts pane in System Preferences and recreate your mail accounts other than iCloud with the same settings as before. To recreate an iCloud mail account, all you have to do is open the iCloud preference pane and check the box marked Mail.
Launch Mail. If all goes well, your mailboxes should be restored automatically. The messages will be downloaded from the servers, so it may take a long time if you have very large mailboxes. Some people have mailboxes in the gigabyte range, and that may be a problem if your bandwidth usage is metered.
If the mailboxes are created successfully, you can delete the folder you moved to the Desktop. You may have to recreate your Mail rules, signatures, and custom stationery. If it's very important to you not to have to do all that, ask for instructions before deleting the folder.

  • Hello, When upgrading Iphone4 error-1.How to remove it? thank you

Hello, When upgrading Iphone4 error-1.How to remove it?
    thank you

This is a bad Hardware Error, most often means Baseband Problem. Maybe try to Restore Firmware with SIM Card removed. If you still have Warranty or AppleCare Coverage take iPhone to Apple for resolution.

    Hey jestinsinclairr,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
After reviewing your post, it sounds like you had one issue and then got a second trying to resolve the first. A frustrating situation for sure. The first article linked has what to do if it is not powering on unless plugged in. The second article addresses the error you are receiving when trying to restore.

  • Iphone4 would not restore Error -50. I have tried to restore and it restored it to the point that it created after 5.0 was installed. How can I get it an older restore point from my backups and restore it on another computer? The phone has been wiped out.

Iphone would not restore---- Error -50. I have tried to restore, and it restored it to the new point that it created after 5.0 was installed. How can I get it an older restore point from my backups and restore it on another computer? The phone has been wiped out. I can see earlier backups in my C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup folder. There are four subfolders in this address. I need my contacts, photos, and messages back. I know this is a common error but I can not figure it out. I have ran the other troublshoot items in the error steps for 13 and 14 like apple says. Is there a way to call apple and get a step by step of how to restore from another restore point? Does anybody have a solution????

It tells you to go to Error 13 and 14 if you receive error (-50).
Here is what I have tried...
Error 13 and 14: These errors are typically resolved by performing one or more of the steps listed below:
Perform USB isolation troubleshooting, including trying a different USB port directly on the computer. See the advanced steps below for USB troubleshooting. I have moved it around to different ports.
Put a USB 2.0 hub between the device and the computer. Didn't change anything.
    Try a different USB 30-pin dock-connector cable.
Eliminate third-party security software conflicts. Removed all virus protection and firewall.
There may be third-party software installed that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting one or more TcpWindowSize entries into your registry. Your default packet size being set incorrectly can cause this error. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet-size modification for assistance. Or, follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) to reset the packet size back to the default for Windows.Used the Microsoft fix it.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, bypassing any routers, hubs, or switches. You may need to restart your computer and modem to get online. Doesn't matter.
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network. I do not know how to do this or how to find the correct/full/complete restore point. There should be more information for this.

  • Ipod Restore Error

    Hi all,
Sorry to make my first post here a cry for help, but desperate times call for desperate measures.
For the past day or 2, my iPod has been stuck on the loading screen (apple logo) when turned on, and it is not being picked up by iTunes. From reading other threads, I decided to put it into restore mode and reinstall the firmware.
The problem arises now, during the restore, the iPod seems to leave restore mode and go back to the loading screen. Windows indicates that a usb device has disconnected.
At this point the restore will fail with Error: 6, and in one occasion Error:13.
I'm at my wits end with this one and cannot think of a solution thus far. Any help any of you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
    Using: Windows XP
    iTunes: 8.0.2.20
    Firmware: 1.2.1
    Cheers,
    Rodg3

Then, i tried to do the 5 R's, then i finally restored my ipod, with the restore function on my ipod, and completely restored my itunes. But now, i must restore and update to use my ipod on my computer. When i try to do that, i get this unknown error (1611). Please help!

  • IPod restore error 1604

iPod Touch 1.1.3 restore error in iTunes 7.6 -- Windows XP Pro
I,ahem... JB'd... my iTouch, and I "DID NOT LIKE IT" so I tried restoring it. Now I get the error 1604 right after it is "Preparing iPod for restore..." screen, saying, "The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error ocurred (1604)"
I have looked on Apple.com and even Googled it for hours. I tried rebooting, trying another USB port, trying another user on the computer, and draining the iPod's batttery. Also, when it is restoring, the "Connect to iTunes screen" is still active and the white cord has the circle progress thingy. Is this normal? I have restored it before and it used to show the Apple logo with the circle thingy. Also, when I connect the iPod when it is booted to the "SpringBoard" iTunes says that "The iPod could not be synced because the Apple Mobile Device Service is not active" even after I located the "AppleMobileDeviceService.exe" and opened it. After the error message goes away when I click "OK" the iPod reboots into "DFU Mode" (as I think it is called). Also, I can only reboot it to the SpringBoard if I use Zibri's ZiPhone 2.0 utility to "Verbose Boot."

For those of you who ask...
JB is an acronym for JailBreak. I didn't want to spell it out directly in an Apple hosted Help Discussion, seeing as I don't want to deal with the consequences. If you still don't know what the above term means or refers to, go ahead and google it.
DFU Mode: I suppose it stand for "Download Firmware Update" seeing as when I connect it during this mode that it has the error "Could not contact the iPod update server. Try again later" or something to that effect(my internet is not working, it is unrelated and the internet company is trying to solve the problem right now, but I am getting very impatient with them). I don't have any clue myself what it really stands for, and I can't find it anywhere on Apple.com. What exactly is DFU mode? I suppose it doesn't help even now, except for you to experience it for yourself:
To get into "DFU Mode" hold down the home and power buttons until the iPod is shut off. At this point, keep holding the home button, but release the power button until iTunes detects it in that mode. The screen should remain black after it is shut off. If it reboots, or ends up in "Connect to iTunes Restore Mode" with a picture of the cable and iTunes logo, please try again.
To get into restore mode with the iTunes logo and iPod cable, push AND hold the Home and power buttons until ou see the Apple logo. At the exact same moment you see the Apple logo, release the power button but keep holding the Home button until the above described screen is shown.
My question: What is the difference between the two modes, and would DFU mode fix the 1604 error I receive when I try to restore it in "Connect to iTunes mode"?
