7.1 Missing Libary

Updated to 7.1 Today. Now all songs are missing from my Library. The file seams to be two small ie only 32 kb for Library File. Songs still on computer but Itunes shows empty library
Is their any way to recover Library or what is best option to get things back to normal?

I have a similar problem happen to me EVERY time I update itunes. It has gotten to be so frustrating I postponed updating to 7.0 until I absolutely had to. I was looking on here to see if anyone else has the same issues and it looks like I'm not the only one. I don't know about you but I keep my files on a separate hard drive and not the default location itunes uses. I don't know if this is the cause of the problem or not, but I am forced to drag and drop the library file from the external hard drive into itunes to get my library back. The main problem then is I sometimes get duplicated listings in itunes and I lose a song or two (neither of which is good). I hope someone else reads this and can helps us both out.

  • Missing libary content with iTunes 12

Ever since I updated to itunes 12 I am missing tons of my music library. I would say a good two thirds of it is gone from itunes. If I go into the finder and music library everything appears to be on my HD but not in itunes itself. Anyone else having this issue? any thoughts or ideas to get my complete library into itunes so I can make changes to my ipod and iphone?
I am very disappointed in this latest itunes update and now missing most of my music is a really bummer!

Thanks for the response but I have done all this already. Everything is in my Itunes media folder as it should be however nothing is appearing in my itunes library. It does not appear I actually lost any music(also backed up on timemachine) but nothing is in my itunes libary. It was perfectly fine before the update yet after updated and opening itunes 12 for the first time nothing is there. This also means all my of media on my ipod and iphone is not going to snyc correctly with itunes if I plug it in. I made zero changes from before the update to after either,

please can anyone help with a problem thats just happened to me. My computer has crashed after a power surge and now i can not get to my itunes libary,i downloaded the icloud and it appears that all the purchased music i aqquired as come back but all the cds i have burned have not.Is their anyway i can download my ipod touch itune libary on to another or new computerthanks

I can help you for the future.  Regularly back up your computer to an external hard drive (or cloud alternative).  If you have your library backed up, it could be reinstalled on your new computer.  In your current situation, you will have to reload all of your CDs as syncing of non-iTunes purchased music is only one way (Computer to iPod)

  • Itunes libary missing

Hi all, I have a problem with my comp as my complete libary has been wiped from itunes twice in the last ten days. Any ideas what might be causing this?

Are all your songs still in the usual folder(s) on your computer? Try holding down the Shift key in Windows when opening iTunes. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to an existing one. The default location for your iTunes library is in C:\Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\ (or C:\Username\Music\iTunes\ in Vista). Look in there and see if you have more than one library file (they have the extension .itl) If you have more than one try opening them in turn, you may find your original library is still intact: How to open an alternate iTunes Library file

  • Ipod music wiped..... itunes libary also not working and missing files.....

    hi,
my cousin, is having a problem.
all she can tell me is, she plugged her new ipod into pc....and she got some message saying "restore"......she clicked yes........
and now.... her ipod is cleaned out.....no music in it......she had thousands of songs in it......
also..... her itunes library in itunes on her pc...... when she clicks a song, it says unable to locate file.... so no music is playing in itunes.
i think she says most of the music is also wiped from her itunes library.
she checked her itunes location, in my documents etc... and the folder is empty she said.......
although thousands of songs were on her ipod only, and not on her itunes, as she put songs on from her mates libraries, and also her computer died recently and she lost her old library....
    sounds bad right?
system restore on windows xp wont help with it?
ive got her to shut down and reset ipod..... and still..... nothing in there.....
any ideas what shes done? or is anything recoverable?
random crash? or her own fault?
    cheers

I think you've misunderstood. What I mean was to drag a track from iTunes into a folder that is on your desktop as opposed to dragging directly to the desktop.
In any case, I guess you can try deleting your preferences from ~/Library/Preferences to see if that helps. There are three of them…
    com.apple.iTunes.eq.plist
    com.apple.iTunes.plist
    com.apple.iTunesHelper.plist
I would just drag them to your desktop so you can always put them back if it doesn't work. Saves having to redo your settings. Oh yes, don't foget to quit iTunes before moving/deleting/replacing anything.

  • My instant watch for netflixs is not working on my macbook pro. I just shows a black screen. I know that the problem is not Silverlight, so what other type of software or upgrades am I missing?

Go figure both Apple support and Netflixs support "have never seen a problem quite like mine" the same day my free trial has ended. And no the, problem is not with my Netflixs account because they charged my debit card just fine. I'm trying to play instant movies on my netflixs account and every time I click on a movie or show it just shows up a black screen with no play controls. According to Netflixs I'm either missing a peice of software or I need to uninstall and reinstall a program or plug-in or something. At first they thought it was Microsoft Silverlight, but I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling that several times and nothing has changed, plus since I had no play controls as well the problem is definetly not Silverlight. So I was wondering what other types of software or plug-ins are needed to play Netflixs movies or if anyones else has had the same issue and knew how to fix it. And I know that it is a problem with my Macbook Pro, because my netflixs accout still works on my sister's computers. I've tried restarting my computer, restarting Firefox, signing out and back in on Netflixs, praying to God, clearing my cookies and chache, saying nice things to my laptop, yelling at my laptop, and pretty much everything under the sun. Nothing I do is fixing it. Please someone help me figure this out.

MacBook Pro  / Mozilla Firefox / Netflix / Silverlight Update solved - DON'T DWNLOAD FROM NETFLIX
I solved this problem tonight. I have a MacBook Pro with 10.5.8. I know, it's old. But I love my Netflix and I recently noticed that Firefox plays Netflix much better.  Then I suddenly got this message that I needed to download the latest Silverlight - it only takes 30 seconds! - WRONG.   However, after much searching, I finally did the steps in order and it worked.
This was after repeatedly downloading Silverlight from the Netflix site without success.  So here's what I did:
    1. Went to http://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight/Get-Started/Install/Default.aspx
    2. Followed the directions. I felt like such an idiot for not doing it right before.
    3. Go to your hard drive and search for "Silverlight" to locate ANY existing Silverlight files: .dmg, etc.
[also check your Libary/ Internet Plug-ins, but the above search is faster]
    4. Drag it all to the trash and empty it.
    5. Go back to the Get  Silverlight page and click on the Install on that page, not the Netflix site.
    6. Note the steps for Safari or Mozilla Firefox - I wanted Firefox, so I follwed those instructions.
    7. Once it's installed, close all the browsers and Restart that bad boy. Right away.
    8. Open a browser, go to Netflix and proceed to joyfully rot your brain with Netflix content. Yay!

  • Now I'm just ****** off - original photos missing from iPhoto

    Ok.
So I had this problem the other day after upgrading to iPhoto 6 (see here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=406534&tstart=0)
That seemed to get solved from the information provided.
OK, great. So today, I'm flipping through some albums, and I discover, much to my chagrin, that some photos (all of which appear to be from 2000/2001) have thumbnails, but no longer have the photos attached.
And before you say, "hey, do you have the apple support framework 1.4?" why yes, I've already checked.
And before you say, "hey, did you try rotating/exporting/dragging the photos to your desktop?" Why yes, I've already tried.
As a matter of fact, when I try to go into the iphoto library file structure itself, and open some of these older photos (after searching around for them because ever since the upgrade, I appear to have about 800 different files in my iphoto folder), I get a message that the image either doesn't exist or is corrupt.
Speaking of the file structure, This is a list of what I get now when I open the pictures folder in finder:
    2000 (folder)
    2001 (folder)
    2002 (folder)
    2003 (folder)
    2004 (folder)
    2005 (folder)
    AlbumData.xml
    bdayfun.jpg
    Data (folder)
    Dir.data
    iPhoto.ipspot
    iPhotoLock.data
    iPod Photo Cache (folder)
    Library.cache
    Library.data
    Library.iPhoto
    Library6.iPhoto
Modified (folder - NOTE: THIS DOES HAVE AN INTERNAL FOLDER FOR 2006, BUT NONE FOR 2000 0R 2001)
Original (folder - same as "Modified")
    Thumb32Segment.data
    Thumb64Segment.data
    ThumbJPGSegment.data
All of the photos (so far) that appear to not open are from 2001 and earlier. They are also photos that were taken with an old digital camera, and have file names such as "3 - 141" rather than the more current file naming conventions (but I didn't name these photos - iPhoto did, based on the original roll imports.
I'm finding it extremely frustrating that iPhoto wasn't upgraded in a way that took into account how previous versions of iPhoto itself worked!.
Nevermind that I've submitted multiple bug reports about the fact that iPhoto continues to crash every time I try to empty the trash folder, and have heard not a peep out of Apple.
    iMac G5; PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    Hi Samantha,
I know it must be frustrating. there is some info in the iPhoto Help files for missing photos:
"What to do about a missing photo
When you import or edit photos in iPhoto, they are saved in the iPhoto Library folder, located in the Pictures folder on your computer.
If you move, delete, or otherwise change a photo in the iPhoto Library folder, and then open the iPhoto application and try to edit or use that photo, iPhoto may not be able to find it. You will see the missing photo indicator instead (shown below).
To find or replace a missing photo:
If you have the original photo file, either on a CD or on your computer, just import it again into iPhoto. For more information, see Related Topics below.
If you don't have the original photo, or you are trying to find an edited version, try one of the following options.
Click your computer's Trash icon (not iPhoto Trash) and see if the photo is still in there.
    Do a search.
To search within the iPhoto Library folder, open your Pictures folder and then open your iPhoto Library folder. From there, click Command-F, choose Images from the Any pop-up menu, and enter a search term.
To search all your files and folders, in the Finder, choose File > Find and enter a search term.
IMPORTANT: When you find the photo file, don't drag it directly into the iPhoto Libary folder. Save it to your desktop, then import it back into iPhoto from there.
If you don't know the file name, try going back to the original iPhoto Library folder and look at the other images. If one is missing in a numerical order, it may be the photo you're looking for and you can search for it. If that doesn't work, try searching on the date you think you moved the file, or the date you last edited it."
As far as your file structure, those loose year folders (if empty) can be deleted or dragged to the trash.
If the Year folders have photos in them that are missing from your library, drag them to the desktop and import the photos into iPhoto.
Here is how the library should look and what the folders contain.
iPhoto 6 Library folder in the Finder
As you can see the structure is now related to rolls. Rolls are created for each folder you import and each import session from a camera.
It is very easy to change the names of film rolls within iPhoto to make them easier to find images within. Open the info panel in iPhoto by clicking on the "i" icon. Once it is opened, click on the roll title in the viewing window.
Click on the word "title" in the info pane and type in your new title. I like to use a date and text format such as 12/25/05 Christmas at Mom's, 1/05/06 my birthday, etc. Once the roll names are changed within iPhoto, they are also changed within the Finder, making it easy to locate an image.
When importing from a camera, make sure you name the roll with a date and text before the import.
As far as the trash is concerned, move most of the photos back into the library and delete a few at a time, then empty iPhoto's trash.
Some people have found success on making sure the trash folder is highlighted then go to iPhoto>empty trash.

  • Need to get all the files, well music and video, from my ipod touch 5th gen to my itunes libary.

Need to get all the files, (well music and video), from my ipod touch 5th gen to my itunes libary. (So basically sync the other way to normal)
Laptop hard drive broke so had to buy a new one and obviously now need to sort out my itunes.
Did try downloading all my purchased stuff onto itunes but it has missed some things off, and there are some files I did not purchase from itunes so need a way of getting them back on there.
Sure this question has been asked a million times but can't find anything to help me on here so thought I'd ask.
-Did have a look at going onto the start menu and opening the hidden items thing but couldn't see any reference to ipod or device on it so wasn't sure how to do it that way.
-On itunes under my device when its connected, the section about manually restoring and backing up, would that help me? Because that says it will manually back up my ipod to my computer then could restore that back up, obviously I don't want to accidnetally get rid of everything on my ipod so didn't want to try that just in case without checking.
(And yes I have disabled auto sync to device when conncected!)
Can anyone help me please? Sorry if i've overcomplicated this!
    Thanks:)
    Chris

Backing up an iOS device will copy some data to a backup file within iTunes, but this excludes all media.  You can also transfer iTunes Store purchases from the iDevice to iTunes but, without using a third-party tool, nothing else.  As long as you do not sync the iPod with your new library, the media that's on it will remain ... for as long as it keeps functioning, is not lost, stolen, eaten by the dog, ...
You may also have an option to recover your previous library from your old laptop; as long as its hard drive isn't fried, a computer repair store or technician may be able to extract the drive, mount it in an external enclosure, and copy your data to another PC.  Whatever you choose, there is no real alternative to having all your media on your computer, managed by iTunes, and regularly backed up to another device/location.

  • Missing patches in standard GB 10 Library pane?

    Oddball question, maybe.
I bought a new Macbook Pro Retina last December, dragged my old files/settings/etc. from my old Macbook (running Lion) over to the new one. I downloaded the new Garageband 10.0.1 (plus the drummers in-app purchase). I kept using the old version of GB, but in January I started playing around with the new version. A bit of getting used to, but ye olde internet helped me figure it out.
Following a few tutorials online, I noticed that some folks had features in their Library panel at the left that I did not. I didn't think much of this at first, until I walked into my local Apple Store and saw the same patches on their standard store models.
So…..I went online to look up more about these "other" patches. Nada. Nix.
Can someone put me out of my misery and at the very least tell me what the **** these things are? And are they standard in GB 10.0.1 or not?
In my on my Libary panel on the far left if I open an new Audio track:
User Patches (I know what this is)
User Channel Strip Settings (this too)
    Voice
    Acoustic Guitar
    Electric Guitar and Bass
    Legacy (from my old GB)
On the GB 10.0.1 at the Apple Store and various places around the web:
    Voice
    Performance Patches (???)
    Studio Instruments (???)
    Acoustic Guitar
    Electric Guitar and Bass
    Experimental (???)

    Erm…uh…Am I missing something here?

  • Calendar missing after leopard upgrade

I have 7 different calendars in iCal, but after upgrading to Leopard I'm missing one. I can still see the name of this specific calendar as a .ics file under Libary-Calendars, but it doesn't show when I open iCal. I tried deleting the cache file but this hasn't fixed my problem. TX!

I got the same problem (one missing Calendar) when upgrading from 10.3 to 10.5.
To get it back again, open iCal and drag the calendar file into the "CALENDARS" list (left hand pane). That should do the trick.

  • Finding Missing Songs

    Hi,
I recently encoutered a problem with my iPod and had to reformat it. Before I did this, I copied all of the iPod files to a hard drive so I could transfer them back and keep all my songs, playlists, etc. When I did this I went through all the song folders I had copied and noticed 2 weren't the same file size they were on the iPod. So when I transfered everything back, everything shows up, but some of the songs from the 2 corrupted folders are missing. Is there a way to search my iPod for these "dead" songs, so I can update them with the songs saved on my computers hard drive?
Right now all I can do is play through each song and see if a "!" icon appears by it and it skips the song. I have about 4000 songs and don't really want to do that. Thanks for the help.

    Hi
I had this problem recently. I have a massive library and after moving and consolidating my iTunes folder onto a new hard drive, some 700 songs came up as 'missing'.
My tried opening up iTunes Music Libary.xml in BBEdit (it was over 100mb in size) and scrolling through the entries until i found a bunch of files with the wrong path. Its a good idea to make a copy of the .xml file before doing this, just in case.
Anyway, in BBEdit I could see they were referencing:
    <key>Location</key><string>file://localhost/Volumes/Windows/MP3s/artist/songname.mp3</string>
and they should have been referencing:
    <key>Location</key><string>file://localhost/Volumes/Music/MP3s/artist/songname.mp3</string>
God knows how this happened - somehow iTunes got confused and the library got partly corrupted suppose.
Anyway, I simply did a find and replace of the paths
    ie
    find: file://localhost/Volumes/Windows/
    replace with: file://localhost/Volumes/Music/
It took a few go's to change them all for some reason, but finally it found no more entries. I then saved the .xml file and launched iTunes, hoping it would have fixed all the missing tracks...
Alas, it didnt fix it - I suppose they are also referenced in the iTunes LIbrary file which I have no idea how to edit.
Can anyone else give any pointers on how to edit this file?
    Cheers

  • Finding missing tracks

I've just moved a large iTunes library from an eMac to a new MacBook Pro, and I've got problems with missing tracks (with the exclamation mark next to them). 566 of them to be precise - I've created a smart playlist so that i can see which ones they are, and generally when I double click to find them I can do so. But it's going to take ages to locate them all individually - is there any way round this that doesn't lose play counts / ratings etc for the whole library (which would be a disaster)? Most solutions i've googled seem to involve losing that info, or starting again (which I've already done once).
I suspect this problem may have come about because i didn't have enough free space on the eMac to consolidate the library before i moved it. Consequently the iTunes music folder is a bit of a mess...but having said that, it all works fine on the eMac.
I would be incredibly grateful for any pointers on this.

I have exactly the same problem just moved my libary from Windows laptop to Macbook pro (the music is stored on an external drive set up correctly) When I copied my ITL file and database files accross I got a whole load of missing or dear tracks not sure how many but I have to refind them all individually taking ages!!
There must ba an easy answer to this!?
