7.1 Multitouch home screen gesture slower.

Ever since updating to 7.1 on my iPad, I've noticed that the five finger gesture to get to the home screen, is significantly slower because the icons animation now happens AFTER the closing app animation resulting in a twice as long app closing process. This seems like it is most likely an unintentional bug.
I use the multitouch home screen gesture ALL the time because it is generally faster, but now the home screen button is faster.
Hope this can get fixed

I have exactly the same problem, i have tryed restart, reset, restore... Nothing helps.. Some times when i type a message the erase button dosen't work and it selects all and wants to insert something insted...
It sometimes helps to lock the phone and unlock it again or swipe my finger over all the letters.. But not always..

    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device via iTunes if you only restored from backup.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • ALL the Icons disappear for seconds after using five-finger-gesture and swipe to another page in the home screen

    Hello,
    iPad Air, 8.1.2
This issue has been making me annoyed for a long time...
You can find the bug by following steps:
    1). Go to Settings APP.
2). Use five-finger-gesture to close this APP, and quickly swipe to another page of home screen before the icons in the current page haven't dropped down.( I mean...The animation that likes icons dropping down)
3). You can see ALL the icons will disappear for seconds.
I've restored the firmware again and again, but it doesn't helped at all...
And if I turn on the "reduce motion" option, the icons won't disappear.
    And...Some little bugs:
    1) In APP switcher, when swiping up to close APPs, the icon's animation is lost. (I mean...The icons shouldn't disappear without any animations. In iOS7, the icons should have a "closing animation"
2)In lock screen, press the power button with a very high speed, and you will see the "time" in the lock screen is being appeared and disappeared, appeared and disappeared, appeared and disappeared...
I hope you can understand me, I'm sorry for my bad English, I'm a middle school student in China, and I have to report these bugs.

I am not seeing that problem, however, this is a user forum. You aren't talking to Apple here.

  • Screen is slow to wake up from black when pressing Home or Power button

My iPhone 3GGS has been working great since the upgrade to iOS 4, with the exception of a couple of small bugs. I have since upgraded to version 4.0.1 and the bugs are still present. I am posting the bugs here to see if anyone else has run into these, or if there are known fixes.
    1. Slow to wake from black screen - Most of the time my phone now takes its sweet time to wake from sleep or a black screen when I press the Home or Power button. It does not always do this, sometimes it wakes right up, but I woul sya that it does this at least half the time.
    2. Screen is slow to update and display caller details when ringing. I have noticed that since the update to version 4 my phone will light up, then start ringing/vibrating at least 3 seconds before it will display that there is an incoming call. There also is a delay of another coupld of seconds before it will display the caller details.
    3. Similarly, I have noticed that if I have the apple headset in I will feel the phone start to vibrate in my pocket at least 2-3 seconds before the the appropriate ring tone starts to play. Essentially I can answer the call using the button on the headset before it actually "rings".
Again, these are not huge issues, but they are pretty annoying. Does anyone have any thoughts?

While it is unfortunate that you have this problem, I am glad that I am not the only one.
Have you performed a hard restore of the firmware to factory settings without also restoring backup? In the past apple support as recomended that procedure for odd issues. It is not fun since you have to reconfigure by hand and lose all of your settings and application data, but it has worked for other issues.
I have not tried this yet - I have full three stars in angry birds and do not want to lose the status. Sad, i know.

  • Will iOS 5 support more than 11 home screen pages ?? Because folders made my phone slower

Will iOS 5 support more than 11 home screen pages ??
Hope to see that in the new iOS

As we're all users like you, we have no more way of knowing the features than you.  All we know is what's been released thus far on Apple's website.

  • Scrollling in home screen is really slow, stalling out, why would it do this?

While I was putting apps into folders, my Ipad 2 started scrolling slowly.  As I change between home pages, the animation takes a long time to complete, and even stalls out altogether, so that it is halfway between one screen and the next.  I rebooted a few times, it is still doing this.  It is hard to select apps to open, as the apps do not open in most cases when clicked on.  If an app is opened, the app itself functions correctly, and at the proper speed.  I can close to the home screen quickly, but as soon as I start trying to swip and scroll, that's when it does it slowly.
So it only really seems to be a problem with the home screen swiping animations, but I have no idea how to correct this.
I am at the point of restoring, but I wanted to see if there was a solution before I had to do this.  Or at least an idea why it might happen.
I have 500 mb free on the Ipad.  I tried freeing up some more space, but this doesn't seem to fix it.

I had the same problem with a 3rd gen iPod running IOS 4.2.1 - when finger-swiping to slide from one home screen page to the next, it would look like it was getting part way there and then stall ... forever. If I waited long enough, and then clicked the Sleep button, the screen would go blank (as per normal), and then I could click it again and go through the wipe-to-unlock sequence (as per normal), and the home screen page that would be displayed would be the one that it looked like it didn't quite make it to when it stalled. But any scrolling from there resulted in the same thing ... but I could use the same work-around (wait, sleep, unlock). If I finally did make it into an app, all swiping and scrolling worked flawlessly within the app ... but the home screen would still freeze every time I got back to the home screen.
Neither freeing up space on the device (deleting movies), nor hard rebooting (several times), helped at all. Even Settings->General->Reset->Reset Home Screen Layout didn't help.
What finally fixed it was Settings->General->Reset->Reset All Settings. All home screen swiping and scrolling instantly became normal again. I can now move smoothly between home screen pages again !
Of course my groupings of home screen icons were lost, and I had to re-enter my WiFi password, but that's a small price to pay. So maybe that will help for your IPad as well. Just a guess, but I think that maybe one of the config files containing home screen layout & icons got corrupted, and the device stalls while having to parse it. So resetting all settings erases that config file and puts a fresh one in its place.

  • I find myself unable to pinch to home screen while using iPad Air..it  hapenned twice

While I was opening some applications and then I wanted to pinch to home screen but I found it doesn't work then I tried closing the opened applications then I tried pinching ..finally it works.. This happened twice ..is it just an incident or there is something wrong in my ipad

As Bob said Newsstand doesn't always pinch to close.  In my limited experience it has behaved differently in different versions of the iOS, and behaves differently for different magazines.
Otherwise, were you using all 5 fingers?
You don't have a practical joker friend who may have turned multitasking gestures off in Settings?

  • When using Safari, my iPad 1 will end Safari and return to the home screen for no apparent reason, any ideas as to cause and solution?

When using Safari, my iPad 1 will end Safari and return to the home screen for no apparent reason, any ideas as to cause and solution?

    See if the following help.
Try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cookies And Data and also Clear History
If that doesn't work then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
Turning off iCloud and multitasking gestures on the iPad might also help.

  • Home screen Safari bookmarks don't open in Safari

    Hi,
So. I found a problem, that I've never encountered before and began to wonder, if there's any kind of solution for this. I recently bookmarked the mobile version of TrueAchievements.com (http://m.trueachievements.com/) from Safari to my home screen. The problem is, that when I open the link from my home screen, it doesn't run in Safari, but instead in some kind of other "browser". In this "browser", the normal gestures (mainly swiping your finger across the screen to make the browser to go 'back' one page) don't work. In the mobile version of the TA.com page you don't get a back button when you for example browse achievements from a certain game. The only way to return to the previous page is to return back to home screen and click on the link again. If you go to the mobile site via Safari, the gestures work, so the problem occurs only when accessing the site via home screen bookmark. Also, the address bar and other 'regular' Safari buttons aren't visible when accessing the site via home screen bookmark. This is the only mobile site I've encountered the problem with, but it got me curious. What is this 'not-so-safari' -browser where the bookmark opens and what might be the solution to this, other than bookmarking the site inside Safari ofcourse. Tested on iPhone 4 and iPhone 5S, both running the latest iOS7 version (7.0.6).

    Hey laorj,
Thanks for the question. This is expected behavior, should the designer of the website choose to have the site optimized as a “web application”. The designer of the website has included a string of code, which executes the website in “standalone mode” (I can confirm that the website you have referenced is using this method).
For more information, see the following excerpt from our developer library:
    Hiding Safari User Interface Components
On iOS, as part of optimizing your web application, have it use the standalone mode to look more like a native application. When you use this standalone mode, Safari is not used to display the web content—specifically, there is no browser URL text field at the top of the screen or button bar at the bottom of the screen. Only a status bar appears at the top of the screen. Read “Changing the Status Bar Appearance” for how to minimize the status bar.
Set the apple-mobile-web-app-capable meta tag to yes to turn on standalone mode. For example, the following HTML displays web content using standalone mode.
    <meta name="apple-mobile-web-app-capable" content="yes">
You can determine whether a webpage is displaying in standalone mode using the window.navigator.standalone read-only Boolean JavaScript property. For more on standalone mode, see “apple-mobile-web-app-capable” in Safari HTML Reference.

    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • 3Gs on iOS4.0.1, home screen spacing all messed up

Has anyone seen this? Even before I installed my jailbreak apps, the screen formatting was messed up. There is nearly no spacing between the first row apps names and the app icons on the second row. This goes all the way down, and leaves about an inch of space BELOW the dock bar (and thus it is no longer my DOCK bar) and the bottom of the screen. Also, the spacing between the home screen dots and bottom line of the apps names on line 4 and the dock screen is almost non-existent.
    AGGGh

If other apps slow to a crawl and even phone use and keyboard entry gets erratic, double click the home button, tap and hold on one of the icons now revealed in multitasking mode until they jiggle. Then close the apps one by one to free up memory.
This is a kludge caused by the apps not cleaning up after themselves, and I dislike having do it multiple times a day, but without it I would waste even more time bringing the device back to Apple for a permanent fix. One can only hope.
Currently raging mad at Apple iOS4.02 for breaking the iPod playback of the 3GS via AV amp (Pioneer VSX-23TXH in U.S.). Trust totally lost. Never "upgrade" without a way back. Jailbreak suddenly looks desirable.
Just yesterday wife bought an iPad for me, still unopened. Feel like returning it as-is in the box and wait for the German designed WeTab (started as WePad earlier).

  • 3 problems With: Accelometer, Safari, And Home Screen Sliding, Update??

Hey Guys, i just got a 16GB iPhone today, and i noticed that sliding from one home screen to the other is like 1/8 slower than other iphones i tried, its a small fraction, but i want to enjoy my iphone to the fullest.
The second problem is concerning the accelometer, sometimes it takes about 10 seconds for it to change landscapes, and when it actually works right, its moves not in the same smooth way ive tried on other iphones too.
The final problem is concerning safari browser, whenever i have 3 pages or more, sometimes it closes by its own, and there's that accelometer problem again, screen changes differently every time.
I absloutly love it, no doubt about that, but i really want to enjoy it to the fullest, without any problems, so what do you think guys, should i update to 1.1.4, or is it all in my head??
Thanks for any help you give
    Godfather

Thanks for the info Kevin, next time I reset I will clear the cache too and see if it works better for me than just the reset.
Also to the OP. Like Kevin said, the iphone must be nearly totally vertical for the accelerometer to register the change quickly. I was just testing and if I was holding the phone on a slant towards being horizontal and then rotate into landscape it takes several seconds to rotate. If I hold it vertical and then rotate its nearly instant. If you lay down on a table and then rotate it doesn't move at all.
I'm not sure why your settings screen would be lagging. Make sure your finger movements are smooth I suppose. And also safari will lag in doing anything while it is actively loading data from the net.
Edit - with further investigation it looks like it needs to be no more than at a 45 degree angel from vertical position for the accelerometer to pick up the change in orientation.

  • IPhone 3G - Applications Exit to Home Screen

I've got a brand new 3G iPhone. In the course of using many different apps (from Apple and others from the app store) the apps will often exit after a few seconds of use, returning to the home screen. The system software is up to date.
Any idea what might be causing this? Has anyone else experienced this?

    Try a reboot (described below).
Think of it this way, the iPhone is more of a computer than a phone. It suffers from being a new OS and nobody can deny there are not bugs and memory leaks. The longer left running, the more things start to fail or slow down (I have had the iPhone since day one of original phone and I am just speaking from my experience). Thus I equate it to like when Windows95 came out...not sure of your age or if you remember those days...but back then it was a running joke of how many days you can keep Windows 95 running before you had to reboot. I am sorry to say but the iPhone is the same way right now (but getting better with a few hiccups back during the 2.0 release). So for me, I reboot daily when I leave in the morning and take it off the charger. By doing so I rarely see any lag or problems.
    A reset/reboot is:
    Go to Home Screen
    Press and Hold Home Button
Keep holding and press and hold Lock Button
    Keep holding Both
You will see Slide to Turn Off (Don't let go to slide, just keep holding)
The phone will turn off (in time, but screen will look like it has some white lines)
    Keep Holding
When you see the Apple Logo, you can let go.
Turning off via the Slide to Turn off while good and fine to turn off, is more like the Sleep Mode on a computer. Thus any locked up issues in memory remain when you turn back on. A reboot as described is like doing a real Turn off and Turn On on a computer.
