7.1 & my iPod *spontaneously combusts*

I've had a good couple of days of complete and utter BS with the new iTunes update and am still left with a major problem!
Initially, instead of syncing my iPod with three new albums and podcasts it decided to deleted everything on the iPod, as if my library was blank.
3 restores and resyncs solved that... then I got the lovely (-48) error, so I set my time and date location to Cupertino, restored (again) then it everything synced properly... once.
Now this morning, regardless of wether I select 'manually manage songs' or 'only sync checked items' - iTunes always sets about deleting everything off my iPod as if my library was blank.
cries
Can anybody offer any advice or input. If I have to restore and resync every time I want to add new matieral or podcasts - I may head may explode!

Hi Dana, thanks for the reply.
I've the 5.5G iPod, iBook G4, OS X 10.4.8 and the sodding new version of iTunes. No 3rd party apps.
I thought I solved the problem the other day by letting the iPod deleting everything in the hope that it resynced everything... which it did.
But having just reconnected my iPod, and even enabling the option of 'only sync checked items' - it's still deleting everything from my iPod.
How do you reset the 5th gen iPod? You know, by the sliding of the hold switch etc etc.
Oh I see they've released 7.1.1. - will download and report back.

  • Spontaneous Combustion

A little while ago, i had my iPod plugged into my computer, wasn't listening to music or anything, but it was charging. I was gonna go grab some food, then I noticed, in the corner of my eye, a little orange glow. Looking down, there was a small flame randomly on my USB cable. It was small enough for me to blow it out and the cable smoked for a moment before my iPod disconnected and the cable stopped working. If I wasn't I the room it could have set more stuff on fire.
Now, my warranty may be up, but an Apple product spontaneously combusted and could have caused some major damages and I thought maybe that was worth something.

In that case, you may want to contact Apple. There is a link to the contact information at the lower right of each page. Or, you might just want to take it to your nearest Apple Store.

  • How do I obtain a replacement for a spontaneously combusting MageSafe Adapter?

A few weeks ago, my MagSafe adapter decided to set itself on fire. I bought my MacBook in 2008, but still, despite that I'm sure there are many who would try to convince me that this is a "feature", I don't think properly built components are supposed to spontaneously combust. Is there a way to get a replacement or at least speak to someone at Apple? My nearest Apple Store is 2 hours away, so it's not really an option, and I could find no customer service or phone contact that didn't require payment.

I had the same thing happen a few years back. No refund or replacement, I'm afraid. Wear and tear over the years. Have since learnt to be more careful with adapters, not kink when rolling up etc. It may have been faulty but it took six years to show the fault. I have had toasters blow up within six months, but after warranty, so still no repair or replacement. My advice? Bite the bullet and purchase a replacement.
Sorry to hear and best of luck

  • IPod spontaneously dumped everything on my iPod except my games and won't sync anything when I plug it in. What do?

Basically, what happened above is what happened. My iPod wasn't connected to anything, and it spontaneously dumped everything except the games: videos, songs, etc.
When I tried to sync it to my computer, it wouldn't hook up, and I'm not entirely sure why. It has an error code, I believe, but I can't remember what it is. I brought it in to a Mac store to see if they could get it fixed up for me, but they had no idea what the error code meant. I'll try to look it up as soon as I can.
Not sure if it matters, but it's the 120G silver iPod classic. Assistance would be awesome

  • IPOD spontaneously formatted to Windows and now I can't retore it with Mac

My IPOD somehow is now formated for Windows. My Itunes doesn't recognize my IPOD and won't let me restore it in the summary tab (IPOD not supported etc...). My Ipod still has data on it (Capacity/Available as shown on the IPOD in the "about" menu in settings) but I can't access any music.
I don't have internet on my Mac so I downloaded the restore and lastest Itunes programs from a different computer and put them on my Mac but to no avail.
How do I convert my IPOD's format back to Mac?
Why did it come out of the closet like this?

I had previously tried to format the disk with the utility but couldn't get it to work (my own ignorance I'm sure).
But using the utility I erased the disk and re-created the single partition. Of course, I was back to the same issue of having Itunes not allowing me to restore the Ipod unless it connects to the internet to check for updates first. The Ipod restore utility stated that the Ipod type is not supported and showed that the Ipod format is still windows.
My plan now is to go to the Apple store where hopefully a sales associate will kindly let me restore my Ipod on a store computer with internet.
It would sure be nice to know why the Ipod just reverted to a windows format.
Thank you for your help thus far.

  • Spontaneously Combusted Internet

This morning my internet was working fine at normal speed. Then this afternoon everything died. I didn't change any settings. I use my mac under a 802.11g Wi-fi connection, and it is dead. My Dell, (Win. XP Pro SP3) is hooked up under an ethernet cable and is also dead. They are on the same modem; that is, the wireless router is connected to the modem, not another line. Both Safari & Firefox don't respond; Firefox says that it just can't find the server, as if I'm simply offline. On the Dell I get a message saying that there's an IP address conflict, a message taht I have not seen before since setting up my Mac. Is there a reason why this connection just died? Now I can't access the internet at all. I have not yet tried it under my Boot Camp partition of Win XP Pro SP3 (neither virtualization or reboot). Any help, suggestions, or ideas will be appreciated. You may email me directly at ********@****.com. Thanks.

Firstly, I don't get spam. I have a standard spam filter, and if any spam comes my way I can test my own smart filter. I'm not worried about spam.
I have rebooted the router, to no avail. I tried several times, under different settings (secure, open, etc.) and nothing happens. I initially found the problem on just mine, with the Dell off. So it's not a problem with the other on. And my computer is too far away from the modem for a direct ethernet connection, so I can't try that. I doubt that'll do anything good anyway. Any other suggestions?

  • Keychain spontaneously combusted

Installed Leopard on day one and have had issues of various sorts but Keychain hadn't played up until just recently.
So I had this one reboot about a week ago where I tried to reboot and an hour later it was still at the blue screen. I powered off and back on, and when I got back in, my login keychain didn't work.
Calmly I moved it aside, created a new one and things worked again.
OK, I thought, let's restore from backup to get back my passwords. I take my backups manually at points when I know I've done something worth saving -- my most recent one was no exception, and at the time I backed up I know my keychain was fine. So I copied my old login.keychain into a login-old.keychain file and opened it up, and it's still "corrupt."
Keychain First Aid is useless, all it does is deletes the keychain from the list. I don't know how that could even be described as "first aid." It's like calling an ambulance because your foot is bleeding, and then when the paramedics come they just cut off your leg and drive off.
So anyway, to summarise, I have a login keychain backup taken at a time when the system was healthy. How can I get the password information out of this keychain and back into a working one?

  • IPod formatted for windows, connected to mac accidentally

I have an iPod video, 30GB. I formatted it for use with my windows laptop.
Then, my mother hooked it up to her macbook pro. No syncing took place and it didn't show up in iTunes. However, now neither machine will show the iPod in iTunes. The windows machine, on connection to the iPod, brings up an error message saying the iPod is corrupted. When connected to the Mac, the iPod spontaneously crashes iTunes even before it opens.
Through a series of unfortunate events, much of my music is not on hard drives aside from my iPod, so any help resolving this issue without restoring the iPod would be greatly appreciated.

Mac Os X will read Fat 16, Fat32(the windows default for iPod) .
I believe it will read, but not write to NTFS.
Windows can not read or write to HFS(Mac OS X format and iPod for Macs) drives.

  • TS2755 iphone 5 deleted all texts spontaneously

Whilst sending a text message, text seemed 'jammed', then all my texts on phone both SMS & imessage completely spontaneously combusted!  All completely wiped.  I rebooted my phone, synced it with computer, updated to IOS 7.0.4, no luck.  I have 2.7GB capacity available (10.8GB used)  Any help on retrieval appreciated thanks!

In addition to the above, I have found that many of my notification settings have changed a lot.   I had almost zero notifications showing on a lock screen.  Now emails pop up in preview mode, calendar invitation responses pop up, etc.

  • Spontaneous eject

A few weeks ago I had to restore my jam-packed iPod (160GB, about 1 yr old) as iTunes claimed to be unable to read it, yet my virus scan was plowing through it just fine. A few days later, in the middle of refilling the bugger, "unable to sync" messages kept popping up. So, I quit everything and restarted the computer. Now the iPod spontaneously ejects as soon as it appears on the desktop. A manual reset has no effect. How can I convince it to stay connected?

No idea off the top of my head of anything specific, but a few questions which might help someone think of something.
Have you tried a different Sync cord?
Have you noticed this happens when you are holding or otherwise moving the iPod? Or does it happen when the iPod and cord are laying untouched on the desk?
Are you plugging in directly to your computer or via a USB hub? I have had bad hubs spontaneously disconnect external hard drives before.

  • No longer works with wall charger

I have a Logic3 wall charger and it used to work fine with my 3rd gen iPod nano. However, right after installing an update around Oct/Sep I believe, it stopped working. Everytime I plug it in, the screen freezes and it doesn't charge; I know because I assumed it was charging and it had no more battery.
It isn't the charger because it works fine with friend's iPod (though they bought theirs just recently). I'm not sure if the update caused this, but I'm not sure. Please help if you have any info. Thank you.

Sorry- I would have replied sooner but for some reason it wouldn't let me log in.
I realize that my warranty wouldn't have covered it, just sometimes I wonder if it's really a coincidence that everything I own spontaneously combusts days after the warranty runs out.
But thanks for your response. At first I left it for a couple of hours, and then tried another four days. It was okay for about two days, but came back.
Then it went away by itself again for a while, but now it's back and worse than ever. A lot of times I can't even get the error off the screen. And if I try to play any songs, the song starts skipping.
There isn't anything else I can try, is there?
At this point I'm starting to think I'd be better off with a new one. In my experience, sending things in only ends up costing more than the thing itself and half the time it returns still broken.
It's too bad, I much prefer the lst generation Nanos to the 2nd.

  • Help! I don't know what to do!

My ipod 5th generation 20GB will just randomly stop working. It just freezes. But the thing is it doesn't turn off, it still has the backlight on and everything. I can't reset it or turn it off. Once the battery runs out, i plug it back into the wall and it starts working! Except some of the songs are gone, or they're there but they won't play and just freeze the song up again. Also when it's being plugged into the computer, it's not regconized and it says "do not disconnect". After fiddleing with it (disconnecting and reconnecting), it shows up on itunes and i can put my songs onto the ipod. But some of them still won't play even tho they show up and they freeze the ipod again! I want to just return it or get a refund, but i don't know how or if theres something i need to do before shipping it out. And if there is an easy way to fix this, i'd like to know!! Thank-you!!

    Hello!
Try putting your iPod manually into disk mode (click here for details), so you can then restore your iPod. This may clear up your problems with the iPod spontaneously not working.

  • Photo Albums not working with iPhone/iWeb/MobileMe combination

OK, I find this surprising given this is an all Apple deal here...
When I create Photo Albums and photo pages the pages don't display any of the images on my iPhone... Works OK on my Mac's Safari, works OK on Firefox... iPhone, nothing, it's like the Javascript they use to create the photo albums doesn't do it's thing on the iPhone version of Safari.
And apparently if I leave my iPhone on my desk while I type this message with the browser window open to the page with no images it spontaneously combusts... er... I mean it reboots the iPhone (not just a Safari crash).
Apple... How do I see my Mobile Me Web Site on my iPhone?
    OS X 10.5.5, iPhone 2.1, iWeb 08 2.0.4, MobileMe 1.whatever.apple.is.using.to.host.the.thing
    Best Regards, Bruce

The photo pages and MMe albums require java script support to view and iPhoto doesn't have that as yet as far as I know.

  • Odd timeout problem (I think)

So, off the bat, I'm running Apex 3.0.1.00.07. We're due for an upgrade, I know ;-)
Anyway, in our production environment we are running into this weird issue where our users will be running a report, then go do something else in another browser window for anywhere from 15 to 25 minutes. They come back, and the report won't load any data anymore. All the LOV's are still populating, application items and computations seem to be set correctly - APP_USER, language settings, it's all there, and they haven't been bounced by our SSO login process. But it's as though something timed out, they only get No data found type messages on this one report. The other reports seem to work just fine.
In addition, there's no time-based criteria on this errant report. It's like it just goes bad after a certain amount of inactivity and the user has to completely log out of our portal and get a new SSO session to get back to normal and get the report to work.
It's really fishy, only seems to happen in our prod env. I'm wondering if something cached by apex (like session stuff) is going stale?

Apple never bopthered to explain that this would happen
Your iDisk is still accessible after moving to iCloud in exactly the same way as before. Nothing is deleted until June 30th 2012.
, so I could easily have lost ALL of the files I kept on iDisk.
No, you couldn't. Firstly, nothing was deleted from your iDisk. Secondly, any files stored on your iDisk should never be your only copy. Even if your iDisk spontaneously combusted, you should keep local backups elsewhere.
Does Apple WANT people to move their storage elsewhere and stop paying Apple for it?
Yes. Apple doesn't provide such a service anymore, nor are you paying them for it.
Apple has made no effort to suggest remedies for the problem it has given iDisk users
They've provided instructions on how to download your files from your iDisk. What you do with them after that is your choice.
