7.1 on Audigy 2 ZS Plati

Hey guys I have an Audigy 2 ZS Platinum card I've owned for years with a 5. speaker setup. I just bought a 2.0 speaker system and can't seem to get 7. going. The first 3 inputs are working fine for Front L/R, Center and Rear L/R outputs but none of the other connections output Surround L/R. I have the latest drivers for the card and have it set to 7. Surround in sound properties. What am I missing here? Any help would be much appreciated. My specs are:? Athlon 64 X2 4000+, 4GB Ram, Windows XP Pro 64x. Thanks.

Nevermind guys, found out this piece of garbage company makes proprietary connectors for 7. systems. Thanks a lot soundblaster you bunch of moneygrubbing SOB's.

After uninstall & reinstalling with a step-by-step procedure supplied by Pinnacle tech, I'm trying to find someone that had/has the same problem. Everything works fine except in <EM>Set-Up </EM>my sound card is recognized only in the <EM>"CD, Voice Over & Surround"</EM> drop down list, and not recognized in the <EM>Capture Source > Audio (Capture Devices) </EM>drop down list. Can YOU Help ?

    Thx CTMan,
    A few things:
You said to disable the realtek onboard sound via the bios of the motherboard; restart and see if it works but how do I do this?
You also said "make sure you have selected the Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS as the device for recording (not only for playback" but surely if I disable RealTekl then thew Soundblaster will take over? If not, I normally select it via Windows sound control is that the way you reccommend also?
Also, "in your case when the Realtek onboard soundchip is enable, the Realtek onboard sound may be configured as the default device for recording instead of the Audigy 2 ZS)" but all I know is that I currently have the SB selected for both rec and playback - though there are no LINE IN or MIC options available.
I have just double checked by going into sound devices in Control Panel and the Plat Pro is already pre selected for record and playback.
    Thx

  • DVD-Player SPDIF output to Audigy 2 Plati

    Hello together !
Because of the bad sound of my TV speakers I want to connect my DVD-player via SPDIF-Out to my Audigy (the player has no optical out).
But I only get some sound when I set the Player's output to "PCM". And then there's only stereo sound, no surround :-(
I can also set the output to "Data Output", what means that the player passes the signals without any changes.
But then there is no sound ! Is the Audigy unable to interpret this form of input ?
Can anyone tell me what's the right way to get surround sound via PC ?
    Bye,
ChrisMessage Edited by trinitaucher on 0-8-2004 04:56 PM

I'm not sure if this is correct but..
Does the audigy 2 have a dolby prologic decoder? I know it has the dolby digital and dts. So if it doesnt, and I cant find where it does, then the sound blaster would process the audio just like standard stereo. The output from the TV line out jacks is probably prologic (analog) like mine. I have to run it through the home theater receiver which has a prologic decoder to give me the surround from TV shows.

Only sound from the external speakers. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If you getting sound from the external speakers....are we talking the ones on the laptop?
Means you still have the onboard sound turned on at a guess.

  • Popping sound from Audigy 2 Plati

I am receiving a lot of popping through the speakers. I also receive popping through my headphones hooked through either the front panel or the back of the sound card. I have recently installed a new video card, and everything was fine until then. The new video card is a Radeon 9800 Pro. I am running the current drivers for both my sound and my video card.
I tried all of the steps listed in the essential troubleshooting guide from the web site. I moved the card in the case to the bottom PCI slot, as far away from other hardware as possible. I made sure the wires were clean so there was no electrical interference. I disable "plug & play OS" in BIOS as well as the other suggestions such as AGP aperture size, etc. I disabled DMA writing for my dri'ves.
Nothing has worked. The sound is fine if I uninstall the Audigy card and re-enable thr onboard audio.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Again, I have already tried the steps listed in the essential troubleshooting guide from the web site.
    Thanks,
    Elader

I am having the same problem. I have an OEM Audigy 2 that came with my Dell Dimension 4600 PC. I just bought it in September 2004 It also has a ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, just like above.
I get occasional pops in Halo. I use hardware accelerated sound and EAX enabled. In Tribes 2, I there aren't any pops, but there is another shrill, shrieking type sound that plays very loudly. It occurs randomly. It doesn't affect game, its not that frequent, but its very annoying none the less
    My Specs
    Dell Dimension 4600
    CPU 2.8Ghz Pentium 4 800Mhz FSB
    52MB dual channel DDR 400Mhz
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 28MB DDR
    Audigy 2
    Dell 5650 00 watt 5. Speakers
I have tried using several drivers, the ones from the Dell CD, the latest ones from this website.
I tried using these drivers http://kxproject.lugosoft.com/index.php?skip=
They work pretty good, I didn't get any sound glitches, but they lack EAX support.
Long story short, I went back and forth between drivers testing them out and am currently just using the original OEM drivers from the CD, they work the best. There are slight annoyances with the updated drivers that I could deal with, but they don't fix the sound quality problems in my games.

The driver on the Dell site is: Creative Labs SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS: R92022.exe Thanks! Tony.
    Hi
You may first need to patch the driver package by using ctcomp.exe to get std. drivers (eg. not Dell specific) installed to your Dell PC. Search this forum after ctcomp.exe --> there you'll find some instructions too.
You can also find a link to the latest drivers available (I personally use Audigy 4 drivers from november 2005 --> can be found from creative support pages) by searching this forum (I think the latest WHQL version is .~62 for the original version).

  • Logitech 5500's and Audigy 2 Plat/

Man, my head is spinning trying to figure out how to make my Logitech 5500's work with my Audigy Platinum Professional. Had I known it was going to be this much fun I would have done more research and purchased different speakers or a different sound card.
Anyway... I need to know if I've got this thing hooked up right...
I've got the analog connections - that's easy.
On the digital side I've got a coax cable plugged into the control unit and on the other end I've got a coax cable plugged into an adapter that reduces size enough to fit in the digital out socket on the back of the box. Music comes out of all four speakers and it sounds ok.
    Is this better than analog?
And, from this point what do I have to do to get surround sound?
One final question - would it make life a lot easier if I just got a set of Creative speakers?
    Many thanks,
    Thomas

FWIW, I can't get an optical connection out of this setup to save my life. I've got every kind of optical cable and connector you can imagine and I've plugged every combination into ever available port on the SB. No joy...
And here's a question that may reveal my ignorance... How can you tell for sure DTS / surround sound is being outputted?
    But anyway...
Yes, I get sound out of all speakers with 6 channel direct using the creative speaker tests. With the coax connection I only get sound out of front left and front right but as I understand it that's correct.
Playing movies with the coax connection and the analog disconnected the pod says:
    Input: Coax
    Effect: Digital
If I go into AudioHQ, and turn off the Audigy encoder and then go to Speaker settings and change it to Digital output the sound is pretty good.
I guess it's hooked up properly..wish I knew for sure..

    Hey,
A week ago i bought a Audigy 2 Platinum EX soundcard. I tested the card and it seemed 00% ok. But thing doesnt work. The "Master" volume knob on the external case. When i turn it around nothing happens. If i turn it to the other side (to turn the volume down) the volume bar in windows goes down a little tiny bit (after turning around the knob about minute!). Is the knob broken? or is there some driver i need to install?
Thanks in advance, and sorry for my bad English.

Anyone has a solution? I really hope my soundcard isnt broke

  • I need drivers (not upgrades) and apps for Audigy 2 Plati

I have: Fresh install, WinXP SP2, SOYO Mobo (P4X400), Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2 Platinum (driver: 5.2..443)
After installing the drivers from Creatives Website I thought I'd start installing the ap
    ps.
However I have not been able to install any of them, no matter the sequence. I receive a "setup did not detect the required components." I have sound, I see the device and drivers in Device Manager.
Please tell me how to get around this "loud" stop error so I may complete the re-installation of my Audigy 2 Platinum card.

) make sure your sound card is snugly in the PCI slot and didn't pop out
    2) using the dxdiag utility (Start>Run>dxdiag), use the DirectSound test to test if the sound you're getting is from a software buffer. If it is, you may need to physically reinstall your sound card.
    3) make sure that the apps are for your sound card. MediaSource updates sometimes refuse to install if you do not use Creative's update detection utility to find the correct one for your card.

  • Snap crackle pop issue....fixed - audigy 2 plat/

My first post, Hope the title doesn't mislead/anger anyone, but i truly believe these solutions
are uni'versal and can be applied with just about everyone.
My card is almost 5 years old now or so... I've seen the frustration on this board about this
nasty issue.... i felt SO bad for some of you guys that i just had to sign up and share my
knowledge (or lack of!) for the multiple, possible 'fixes' to this. its not entirely CREATIVE's
fault and there is ways to fix it, you just need a bit of Patience and the willingness to learn
a bit more about your hardware if you arent too savy with tweaking it. this might of all been
said before, but i really hope this helps some of you.
Lets get the blahblahblah's outta the way just to be safe, shall we? Obviously, make sure your
card isn't sharing an IRQ with a cd/dvd device, or any kind of hardware that transfers a lot of
data constantly or uses a lot of power like a hard-dri've, maybe even certain gpu's. In my case,
my bottom PCI-slot (3/3) only shares an irq with a USB port and as corny as it sounds it did
improve the issue (i disabled that USB, but that isn't necessary its overkill/fail-safe
precaution, probably doesn't even help at all, paranoia setting). download Si-Software Sandra to
see exactly what belongs to where and what irq is being shared with what. Also before i forget,
clean out your dri'ves with bleach/acid/napalm with a program such as Drivercleaner, just to be
    safe, right?
If you have anything on your Motherboard that's VIA/raid related, its imperati've you upgrade the
drivers for it, it could very well be your single solution, for example the latest via_hyperion
pro_v5a.zip did it for me and my particular setup just recently after a small hardware upgrade.
this fixed the MAJORITY of the pops in several different machines with these motherboards as well
i might add. Also make sure the Cable is newer than 2 years old, dirty worn cables can
cripple/weird out any piece of hardware, that goes for HD's, CD roms, ...anything that uses
IDE/serial cables etc. lots of people toss their dvd/cd roms out thinking they've used its
life-span, when a brand new ide cable is all it really needed. but... this VIA/raid driver
problem seems to be a pretty common fix in my experiences.
Gamers who suffer from "sudden" or "random" pops here and there while gaming......... with time
will notice this occurs usually when the HD is seeking a lot of info and is under a decent amount
of stress, OBLIVION is a good example of the HD being as important as ram/cpu/gpu IMO. that's
why....... "it seems to do it more (pops/cracks) with certain games than others". ACOUSTIC
MANAGEMENT is Often to blame for this in My opinion, and some maxtor dri'ves come with this
enabled from the factory (why, why why?!! ...die die die!!!). Imagine setting the In-game HD
cache setting Tweak for obilivion enabled to , + Acoustic managementenabled....it turns
preformance into a bloody mess, and will (possibly, most likely?) crack annoyingly often whenever
a new area is being loaded and sufficient data is being called, not to mention make a less
experienced gamer think his machine is completely screwed for no reason. Acousitc Mangemtn
enabled on a hard-dri've can be suicidal for certain games and will almost guarantee preformance
issues, cracks, burns, bruises, broken bones, stab wounds.....and most likely the lovely POPS...
the nasty loud firecracker ones...it can be so bad to the point where many of us will not even
play anymore out of frustration, especially for you audiophiles... leaving us angry and desperate
for a fix. Acoustic management CRIPPLES performance and destroys seek-time, that i AM sure of,
so fix it anyway for your own good, unless you don't care for performance. Please, get rid of
this nasty, possibly/commonly built in feature that turns a 7200rpm dri've into a 5400rpm (ouch),
make SURE this is disabled for you maxtor/seagate HD owners who play games or just want better
performance period. You'll have to google those instructions, I wouldnt dare say more.
On a separate machine, "tad in" and "cd audio" had to be muted to stop a lot of it, as well as EAX
effects (i know you love eax, but its worth the sacrifice) slider turned DOWN to 0% even when disabled.
this may not be necessary for everyone, but a lot of us suffer from those soft "echoey crackles"
and its a quick fix. im sure you've all read this "solution" 5 billion times, but it doesnt hurt
to put it out there. that, or dxdiag or control panel audio properties the slider to Standard acceleration, better to lose eax IMO.
there is no support or guarantee with this patch, and it supposedly doesn't support/work properly
with XP Servicepack 2, however this worked on my dads machine and a friends' as well. GOOGLE
"down vlatency", (not "download" vlatency) and click on the "georgebreese.com" link and try his
vlatency_v020_beta2.exe. this simply overrides some BIOS settings that many of us cant access
easily or at all, and boosts IDE latency and on a lot of different PC setups and gives more
juice to the PCI bus by editing how much the CPU will control the pci bus for, or something like
that. point is, its a redbull for your PC's pci related bandwidth/juice management and it cant
hurt to try (lets hope not j/k).
i don't recommend messing with IRQ assignments in bios or pci latency utilities unless you really
know what you're doing and consider yourself a power user, just a personal opinion, 32 is fine
and a lot of people end up regretting messing with these settings.
there is also the "turbo off" setting (think there's a "patch" for that registry setting too),
but i seriously doubt it will resolve a users problem who suffers Heavily from this syndrome, but
i guess you could try it.
Last but not least, another "ghetto" fix that could improve your issue is killing your CMSS
feature. i have no idea why that setting always acts up (at least for my machine it does) and
causes rice crispies to go off.
Its 2am on a Friday, I've been writing for a while, and i really don't know if i was clear enough
with what i said, but no way im going back to read/correct cause ill be here forever. if you've all tried this before with no luck, sorry. i'm just trying to help if
i can, and if 2 single words out of this post can even spark an idea to help fix somebodies rig, its worth it, right?
Remember to never trust anyone with anything (especially advice) or put your hopes and dreams
into a randomer's advice (such as mine!), keep in mind I'm just an average guy with no
qualifications or credentials that could be wrong about EVERY single thing i just said, i could
be completely out of my mind for all we know, listening to me could very well make your PC

  • Software and drivers for Audigy 2 Plati

    Hello
I'm reinstalling my audio card and the installation disc has become damaged (scratch)
I went to the downloads area and got confused by all the updates and patches
where do I go to get the basic software and drivers that are the basis of what is getting updated and patched?
    Thank you
    nic

I'm in the same boat. (but have the Platinum 2 EX) I switched computers and can't find my driver installation disk.
I thought I figured out which was the correct one on the site, but when I attempted to install the latest drivers from the board, it said that is couldn't find the hardware or software necessary... something like that.
For what it's worth, the 2nd to last driver updates did seem to install without problems though; so, you may want to try that one.
At the moment, I'm only getting sound from my front 2 speakers, but this may be because I need the additional Creative software to get the CMSS working and adjust the surround balance.
Has anyone received the message I mentioned when trying to install the latest drivers?

  • Audio stream recorder with Audigy 2 Plati

I have never been able to get the audio stream recorder to work. I've used creative's online update, so everything is current, but when I tell the stream recorder to update the content directory, it just tells me the update failed. I've never been able to use this thing as it's never downloaded any content. I've also pasted in the URL to the stream I'm trying to record, but it doesn't work. Any advice?

I found the information I was looking for, apparently the server service Creative was using shut down, and though the stream recorder was a component advertised with this line, they never came up with a replacement. It is unfortunate that this is the kind of support I've come to expect from Creative.

It seems like this type of card has been supplied as a "clean" version with no aux input, and a version as you describe. The manual following my card includes a sketch where the aux is not shown. I am quite puzzeled. Is there any other way of solving this? I am reluctant to by a new sound card.
If there are no 4-pin input connectors onboard, then you need to use one of the line-ins on I/O Console. You mentioned that the sound becomes distorted when connected through line-in (which one have you tried?)
--> can you control the output level from VCR ?
--> have you tried to set input level in Surround Mixer (Wave and Line-In sliders, .rec (AnalogMix(), Line-In n when recording))?
--> have you tried usie Line-in 3 (Aux-In, back of the I/O Console) or Line-In 2 instead of Line-In which is a 'FlexiJack' type jack connector (holds both, mic-in/line-in sources)?
