No, because your 128 kbps song will not suddenly sound better if you re-import it at 256 kbps; it will still sound like a 128 kbps song. In fact, it will sound worse than a normal 128 kbps file, because you'll have compressed it twice, like a photocopy of a photocopy.
You'll also be saved the hassle of buying a blank CD, burning it, and re-importing it, which would probably be worth $0.30 per song to me anyway. But that option is still open to everyone, of course.

I too am VERY interested in this support.  We shoot quite a bit in AVC-Intra 100 and I was counting the days until the 4.1 update because from what I understood from NAB that codec would be supported in the update.
Adobe gurus...any update or timeframe?? As this is an important part of our workflow I would appreciate any feedback possible.

  • Smoke and mirrors...or how are photos stored?

I am sort of new to the MAC world, so forgive(please) my lack of MACness. I have copied a bunch of photos into PICTURES\iPHOTO\Originals directory. They show up in the iPHOTO application, but I am confused... in the PICTURES\iPHOTO\Originals directory I have sub directories for organization but I can not seem to find or make use of these in iPhoto to control a slide show. In addition, some photos show up in the thumb-nail sketch, but do not show up in the slide show...what gives?, and lastly, rotation...I have 'rotated' some photos, but they remain unrotated in the slide show?

    uffdaa,
You've made the biggest iPhoto "newbie" mistake: trying to handle photos with the Finder, rather than within iPhoto.
All of your photos should be imported into iPhoto using iPhoto, not dragged to any location in the Finder. Once you have properly imported the photos, they will remain in iPhoto's main "Library." These are your originals, and iPhoto will not touch them, regardless of what else you do with them.
Now that they are in your library, you can drag them within the iPhoto application to "albums" that you create. These albums are simply "place holders" that point to the originals, and iPhoto does not actually copy the photos. Select an album, with no included photos selected, then click the "slideshow" button, and you get a slideshow that includes everything in the album; select individual photos within that album, and you get a slideshow of just the selected photos. Got it?
As you edit your photos, iPhoto creates new versions, without touching the originals. Any changes that you have made, including rotations, will be reflected in all iterations of the photo across albums, including within slideshows (again, slideshows, albums, etc. are all comprised of "place holders" that point to the actual photo). At any time, you can use "revert to original" to backtrack on any changes you have made to a photo, returning it to the original version as imported.
To move photos out of iPhoto, simply drag them out of the application window to a location in the Finder. Copies will be "WYSIWYG." At no time should you navigate into the iPhoto library using the Finder, at least not to change anything. Allow iPhoto to manage your photos within its library, and all will be well.
Given that you probably have a seriously messed-up iPhoto library now, you might want to start from scratch. Copy your entire iPhoto library to an external drive, or some other media (yes, using the Finder for now). Delete the original in your HOME folder, then launch iPhoto. Have it create a new library. Now, you can import photos from the old messed-up library, and iPhoto will manage the new one properly.

  • What is the difference between Video-out and mirroring?

What is the difference between Video-out and mirroring? I can't get iPhone 4 video to work on my TV screen
I have just bought an MD098ZM/A (Apple 30-pin Digital AV Adapter). I am struggling to get it to show a picture on my TV. I know I'm doing something right because the audio is coming out of my TV speakers but no picture on the TV screen.
I have used the same HDMI channel (on the TV side) with the same cable and my thunderbolt port (MacBook Air) without any trouble - and on the same app (BBC iPlayer download then full-screen mode).
Now I note that the packaging for the MD098ZM/A says video-out on iPhone 4 but mirroring only on iPhone 4S. I only have an iPhone 4 (not the 4S). Now if the lack of iPhone 4 support for mirroring means that I can't play video material out to my TV, then in what sense is there any video-out capability at all?
There is only safety and warranty paperwork in the Apple adapter packaging - no help information. And I haven't found further guidance online either.
I do note somewhere online that it suggests that basic non-mirroring video-out (for this adapter) only works with some external TV sets. Any way of finding out which? I'm using a Sanyo CE32LD90-B LCD TV if it helps.
So far not doing very well.

Now found these but have had to give up on this adapter!

  • Can I use my iPad (1st gen) with apple tv (2nd gen) for things such as air play and mirroring?

Can I use my iPad 1st generation on a apple tv 2 generation for things such as AirPlay and mirroring
I'm thinking about getting a new apple tv but it's pointless if iPad doesn't mirror or AirPlay, cheers guys.
I understand the 2nd generation works.

No. There are some apps that allow you to control the laptop remotely from an iPad, however, but that doesn't sound like what you need.

  • DataBase unavailable and Mirrored Db role has chnaged.

    Hello All,
We got below errors in our principal and Mirror db servers.
    1) The mirroring connection to "TCP://servername.domain.com:5022" has timed out for database "Db name" after 10 seconds without a response.  Check the service and network connections.(Mirror Server).
    2) Database mirroring is inactive for database 'DB Name'. This is an informational message only. No user action is required.(Pricipal)
    2) The command failed because the database mirror is busy. Reissue the command later. .(Pricipal)
    3) The mirrored database "Db" is changing roles from "PRINCIPAL" to "MIRROR" because the mirroring session or availability group failed over due to role synchronization. This is an informational message only. No user action
    is required. .(Pricipal)
Before the first error we got an alert that db is unavailable. After 1 min of this alert the issue has started.
After a successful fail-over of that particular db to mirror again it was rolled back to principle automatically. After that I can see a server shut down with below errors.and mirroring failed on all the dbs.
Database mirroring connection error 4 'The connection was closed by the remote end, or an error occurred while receiving data: 55(The specified network name is no longer available.)'' for 'TCP://Server Name.Domain.com:5022'.(Mirror)
Database mirroring connection error 4 'An error occurred while receiving data: '1054(An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.)'.' 'TCP://Server Name.Domain.com:5022'. .(Mirror)

SQL Server cannot accept new connections, because it is shutting down. The connection has been closed. [CLIENT: IP. (Pricipal)
I am very confused that why this db unavailable before the issue. I don’t have any information about this.
Can some body help me to find out the root cause why this unexpected fail over and
     sql shutdown.

    Hello,
It looks like something was updated or done to the end system as:
'An error occurred while receiving data: '1054(An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.)'
Is generally caused by a firewall. Please double check software and hardware firewalls (including endpoint protection software) and make sure the exceptions for port 5022 tcp exist.

  • Different Drive Structure Between Principal and Mirror

We havea 2-node (active/active) cluster with four failover instances installed. We use a dedicated drive for data files, one for log files and one for tempdb per instance .Predicting that we will be adding more instances in the future, we realized that we
would run out of drive letters to set up. We intend to switch over and use mounted volumes instead that way we only use 1 drive letter per instance and will be able to add many more failover instances in the future. However, seen as we have over 150 databases
across all current instances, reconfiguring the cluster drive setup will require a lot of time and work and is not in the immediate plans for our team (me :( ). I need to mirror as many databases as possible, based on priority, to a DR server on a geographically
remote location. Since this server isn't setup with SQLServer yet, I was wondering if it would be a good idea to have the DR server set up with mount volumes now and establish mirroring between our production environment and the DR server that way so that
at least half the battle is won. I am aware that the best practice for mirroring is to have the same drive structure between the principal and mirror server, however it is not a requirement. The only example issue I have seen with this set up is when you add
a data file to a database and the DDL statements get sent over to the mirror and will fail since the drive setup will not be the same. This is something I am willing to deal with since adding data files to our databases is not something we do often, or at
all. As new databases are added and mirrored, the WITH MOVE clause of the RESTORE statement can be used to place the files in their correct location in the mirror server.
Other than this, are there any other things to consider for this kind of mirroring set up?
    Leroy G. Brown

    Hi Leroy G,
According to my knowledge, you can deploy database mirroring with different drive structure. And the known issue is that if you add a file to the Principal, the DDL commands get applied across the Mirror, then your database will go into a suspended
status until you duplicate the path on the mirror.
However, as your post, you can use WITH MOVE option to create database on Mirror server. For more details, please follow the steps in this
    blog.
Meanwhile, about setting up database mirroring, I recommend you review this online
    article.

  • Unbreakable Linux on a Stripe and Mirror Raid

    Hi all
I was wondering if there is any best practice with respect to the placement of the Linux OS executables on Raid storage.
We have a 12 x 500gb disk storage unit and intend to stripe and mirror everything giving a total of 3 terrbytes.
I was considering placing the Linux executables on the raid along with the DB files etc and would be keen to know if anyone would anticipate any problems with this configuration.
    Thanks in advance.
    Cheers
    Glyn.

    Tom
    Thanks for your reply.
Under normal circumstances I would also put the Unix OS on local drives.
However, as we will be running a number of Virtual servers spread over a couple of physical servers under the control of Virtual Iron, the Unix OS has to sit on the SAN.
I was wondering if perfformance of the Unix and Oracle executables sitting on the Striped and Mirrored disks would be bad enough to dictate that I should dedicate 2 out of the 12 disks as a mirrored pair for the Unix and Oracle executables.
    Thanks for any further input.
    Regards
    Glyn.

SVC video decoding upside down and mirrored - AIR version 3.2.0.270
    Everything was ok before update.
    Problem Description:
In AIR desktop version there is a big problem with decoding video image with SVC codec.
    Earlier versions were ok.
Problem doesn't happen in Flash Palyer 11.2.202.228 - here it is ok.
Please check and repait as soon as possible.

    Hi
I agree with the Mores. Toshiba is not responsible for any 3rd party applications and you should contact the support of the software manufacturers.
Furthermore if you have some problems with this software you should try to use any other programs. There are a many other DVD playing programs like WinDVD, PowerDVD which works properly.

  • Benefits Declaring Smoker Non Smoker and Rates Based on Choice

We have requirements from out Benefits department as follows: have an affidavit on the Open Enrollment page on which an employee declares non-tobacco user, tobacco user, or tobacco user but signing up for cessation program. There will be one set of rates for non-user and signing up for a cessation program, and another set of rates for tobacco use. Has anyone configured the system for the same or similar requirements? How did you do it? We use Self Service for Open Enrollment. We have no problem configuring different rates, but want to know options for configuring something to use to declare smoker and non-smoker and the mechanism for displaying only the correct set of rates depending on the choice. Thanks in advance for any ideas.
    Gay

We can set up different rates based on this criteria and if the business agrees to provide the data before we process Opne we have no problem. But, this is not ideal for them. My question is has anyone set up a field (what field if you have?), put it on a self service page before the enrollments page and then triggered the Open life event to reprocess based on updating this field? If so, how have you done this? Are there any other ways of allowing employees to choose smoker/non smoker before they get to the enrollment page but during the self service window for Open, and then having the enrollment page reflect only the rates based on their choice? Thanks again for your help.

  • Despite smoke and sparks, it seems to work...

Earlier today I was servicing my Powerbook (Ti, 1GHz), and while disconnecting the backup battery cable from the logic board I bumped the adjacent capacitor with a ring. There was a sprark, a wisp of smoke, and a funny smell (also some pain in my finger).
However, upon reassembling the powerbook it started up without a problem. I didn't leave it on for longer than it took to start up as I was eager to test it (I was installing a new display) and neglected to apply a new coat of thermal transfer material to the heat exchanger (because I don't have any and which I intend to get Friday)
Though it seems to be working, is there anything I should do/avoid doing to prevent any possible problems (besides replacing the logic board)?

    Hi Peter,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
If any damage has already occurred, I can think of nothing preventative to be done about it; you'll just have to wait and see how things work when repair is complete and you're able to put the PB through its paces. I can't imagine any further damage to other components due to using the PB after the mishap could be foreseen, nor is it likely.
Glad to hear you're taking care of the heat paste; I've wondered if some of the heat issues I've read about here after logic board replacements might be due to lack of heat paste or applying it improperly.
