7.4 on Vista, iPhone gone

Well, just upgraded to 7.4. No hangs with iTunes for now. However.
It doesn't recognize my iPhone, I get some USB driver thing that comes up, 1st time it was searching for the driver, then said it succeeded. Now starting up iTunes with phone connected, no phone on tunes.
adding phone after tunes up get a message that driver is successfully installed, yet no iphone in tunes.
COME ON APPLE.. LETS GET THIS RIGHT. It's annoying that you knock the price down a couple of months after purchase. It's nice you give us a $100 credit. It *** that iTunes won't run on Vista. IT REALLY *** THAT ITUNES NO LONGER WORKS WITH MY IPHONE.

Same thing happened to me under XP. The problem was the driver that Windows installed when I plugged the iPhone for the first time after reinstalling iTunes. This was a Windows driver and not the Apple mobile device driver.
Here is how I fixed it under XP (YMMV for Vista):
- Right click on My Computer -> Properties
- Hardware tab
- Click on "Device manager"
- Expand Imaging devices
- Right click in Apple iPhone -> Properties
- Driver tab
- Click on "Update driver"
- Don't let it connect to Windows Update and click Next
- Select "Install from a list or specfici location" and click Next
- Select "Don't search ..." and click Next
- Click on "Have disk"
- Click on "Browse" (finally)
- Navigate to Program Files -> Common Files -> Apple ->Mobile Device Support -> Drivers
- Select usbaapl
This fixed it. The way to get there might be different under Vista (don't know) but you should check which driver the iPhone is using.

ITunes 7.7-Win Vista-iPhone 3G

When I hooked up my new iPhone for the first time, and during 2 subsequent restores, my PC will get something like 40 songs into the transfer of files to the iPhone and lock up completely. Nothing works at all, I have to undock the phone and use the reset button on the PC to restart. I'll do that and plug the iPhone in, the transfer starts up again, and locks up again at some unpredictable point. This will happen 5 or 6 times until I finally manage to get all the files transferred from iTunes to the iPhone. It seems like this PC is fine in all other ways, including normal every day syncs. The problem happens when I have a huge amount of data to bring over, such as in a restore. There are no significant events in the system logs. I've tried disabling the antivirus software before starting the transfer, and that doesn't help. Any suggestions as to what I could try to stop this? I hope to be done with restores, but you never know, and I dread the thought of it now.

This issue isn't limited to Vista. I run XP SP2 on my home machine. I am an admin and my wife is in the Power User group. We have individual library lists which point to a common iTunes Music folder. She can't edit. I suspected an issue with ACL's. Apparently iTunes 7.5 is setting permissions for the creator/owner without regard to the inheritance of permissions from the parent folder. Ordinary users (and Power Users) get only read/execute permissions, unless they were also the creator of the directory. I used a Microsoft ACL tool (XCACLS) to fix this, but I don't recommend it for any but advanced users. If you are able (as Admin), then just add permissions (full control) for the affected users by using the properties UI available. Apple needs to fix this problem.

Is Packager for iPhone gone?

64Bit Vista iPhone recovery Drivers not Found Help

Hi, I'm trying to update my iPhone to 2.02 but the iPhone has been put in recovery mode and Vista (64bit) its complaining that it cant find the drivers. I have tried linking it to the drivers in the apple folder but it still cant find them. Any one know what to do? as I cant use the phone until I fix it being in recovery mode

3.1.3 update for iphone gone wrong.

A few days ago I updated my iphone with the new update. I'm now regretting I ever did. It was working perfectly before.
After the update, everything seemed normal until the next day when I went to send an SMS and found I couldn't. I saw that instead of showing my network signal, the words "locked sim" appeared, which wasn't really a surprise as my SIM is locked to T-Mobile. I then tried to make a call and found that I couldn't call either. When I got to work I did find that I could access internet using the Wireless, but could not make calls or do anything involving my Network.
I have since then; restored, backed up, rebooted, many times. I also backed up all the applications I had onto iTunes so I could retrieve them later.
I have found that if I restore I am able to get a network. So I can make calls, send SMS. However, if I turn the phone off and on again, the signal is lost again and the words "Locked Sim" appears.
Also, after a successful restore, I have reloaded all the applications back on and the same thing happens, "Locked sim".
I know this is an iphone problem as I've tried my sim in another handset and it worked perfectly.
I'd appreciate any help fixing this. I did wonder whether setting up the phone on iTunes as a new phone would help, but also whether that would mean I couldn't put my applications back on the phone.

I've done this, many times.
I've now turned off the sim pin and tried restoring again. the restore went well, so I've loaded the apps on again. To my surprise that's also gone well, so I loaded my music back on.
I have full signal, wifi is working, my apps are back on. Only thing I haven't tried yet is turning the iphone off and on again. I won't try it just now as I'm happy to have it all just working. The only change I've made is turning the sim pin off. I don't know if that has been the resolving factor here.

Have you tried to power off and on? If that doesn't work and the reset didn't work, have you tried connecting to iTunes to see if it is recognized?
If none of this works you probably need to visit an Apple genius bar and have it checked out by the techs.

WINDOWS VISTA & iPHONE PICTURES

SOLUTION: SYNC PICTURES TO iPHONE WITH WINDOWS VISTA
** You will need a USB plug and play drive.
First, right click the drive and choose format. Choose FAT32. When finished, add pictures (in folders if you wish) to the usb drive.
Second, go to itunes and the pictures sync tab. Choose the USB drive as the sync folder, and apply.
Last, sync your iphone.
* TODAY, Vista updated a driver when I plugged in my iphone. Vista now shows the iphone on the "COMPUTER" tab with an import pictures selection. Perhaps it will work the normal way to sync pictures? I will give it a shot!

Make sure you phone is unlock, enter your passcode when you sync your phone to your computer.

Old iPhone Gonna End Up Costing Me Somehow?

I just got a new iPhone and gave my old one to my dad. There's no SIM in the old one yet, but it still gets internet access, iTunes, App Store, etc. Does this mean that my old iPhone is basically like an iPod Touch right now? Or, am I gonna get blindsided with charges somehow on my next bill (assuming my dad doesn't make a purchse on iTunes or the App Store)? Right now he's only using it for the apps I have on there.

Not possible to place or recieve any calls, the same for SMS, or access the internet via the cellular data or internet network without an active SIM card inserted in the iPhone. The same applies to a no longer activated iPhone with the no longer activated SIM card inserted in the iPhone. Internet access via an available wi-fi network is completely seperate from internet access via the cellular network with an activated iPhone. If the iPhone is no longer activated, there can be no charges via the cellular network.

Your issue sounds similar to the device not being recognized in iTunes while in recovery mode. It may be good to attempt the troubleshooting in the following article:

Is the info on iPhone gone forever?

So my husband has had an iPhone 4 for a couple months. It had never been synced with a computer or iTunes until today; he asked me to put some of the music from my iTines library on his phone because he didn't have any. So I plugged it into my laptop and it gave me the choice to sync it as a new iPhone or with the info from my old iPhone. Well apparently it didn't register that I clicked the "new phone" option... So now his phone has all my old crap on it. His contacts, calender events, texts, etc. are all gone and replaced with mine. Is there any way for me to undo this? Or to at least get his stuff back in addition to mine? Any help would be amazing. Thanks.

Downloads to iPhone gone after sync with iTunes 9 and shared libraries

I have songs that I downloaded directly to my iPhone 3g-s. After the first time I synched the iPhone to my laptop after installing iTunes 9 and sharing songs with my desktop, songs have disappeared from my iPhone. When I search the song, the title is there but when I click the song, it says to purchase the song from iTunes. The songs are on neither of the 2 computers sharing songs. However, only some of the songs that I had downloaded directly to the iPhone from iTunes have disappeared.

I read another post here and the solution is simple: goto file and select 'Transfer Purchases from iPod". It works perfectly!

Please help! iPhone gone into recovery mode

Hoping someone can help me, getting worried!! I just plugged my iPhone 4s into my Windows computer to update and sync etc as I hadn't for a while. During the updating and backup process, my phone just went into recovery mode, it disappeared from the devices menu and a message box came up saying 'iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes.' My phone screen is stuck on the iTunes logo with the usb picture. I have tried restarting my computer, holding down both buttons on the phone etc but it just stays the same....any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

Turn your wifi router off for a minute or two, then back on. Then go to settings on your phone, wifi, tap on the arrow to the right of your wifi name, and a screen will come up that says forget this network, tap it to forget it. Then go out of settings, Then hold the home and off button down until the apple symbol comes up. Once it comes back online go back into settings, wifi, and tap your wifi , and enter your passcode to get into wifi if you have one. Then see if all is good now.
