7.5 breaks playback of QT files

Ever since upgrading to leopard I've had trouble with QT -- mostly with fullscreen playback of files. Now with 7.5 out I decided to see how things were going: they've gotten worse. Fullscreen playback appears to be working just fine with divx files (this wasn't the case before - however after a tip I uninstalled Perian and this seems to have solved that problem) but now actual Quicktime files (.mov, .m4v etc) playback is even worse. It is so choppy that it essentially is showing 1 frame for about 5 seconds and then jumps ahead to a new frame which it will show for five seconds, etc.
Before I was only having issues with .mov files exported from final cut, but now even the iPod ready files I've created playback at an incredibly limited framerate.
This occurs in both QT itself along with iTunes (iTunes is choppy in regular, frozen in fullscreen) but things work just fine in VLC and Frontrow.
Just one more reason for me to absolutely hate Quicktime.

I got that with an encoded H.264 file once, look @ cpu usage and it was through the roof! maxxing everything out. Tried the same file with VLC, no issue whatsoever.
ac3 surround is still broken too. Looks like after the triumph of the new iPhone, QT is yet another defeat I hate to say it. Why can't they get it right?
I hope this helps in diagnosing the issue for you somewhat

  • Quicktime playback of .TOD files with Perian installed

I recently purchased a JVC GZHD3 camcorder, and have had no problems playing the .TOD files in quicktime until I installed Perian 0.5 which I got from the apple website. Why did does it now say, the movie could not be opened, the movie contains and incorrect duration? Like I said, I never had any issues with playback of my recorded video until I installed Perian. What's the deal here with these HD files?
    TJ

JVC says this:T here seems to be a TOD component/codec one requires, it's free and there's a link (and apaprently on the CD that came with the camera, too)
Can I use GZ-HD7/GZ-HD3 with Mac?
Yes, for playback of TOD file QuickTime can be used if the QuickTime component is installed from CD ROM supplied with the camera. Editing of HD video is possible with iMovie HD or Final Cut Pro. Both of these work with TOD file extension. Also the contents can be down converted from High Definition to DV standard thru firewire (1394) to be edited with older versions of editing software.
Can Final Cut Pro software be used to edit and create a movie (MAC)?
YES. Final Cut Pro can work with a .TOD file. But it is necessary to first install QuickTime Component, this file is located on CD ROM provided with the camera. Then from the following website:
    http://software.transdigital.co.jp/products/cbsev/qceng/index.htm
Setup files for Final Cut Pro for 60i (for USA) needs to be downloaded and installed On the same page there is a tutorial link with individual sections for recordings made in FHD or SP/1440CBR modes. It shows you how to convert the file to either AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec), YUV (uncompressed) format or HDV1080i
Also the Google Gods reveal this: TOD seems to be like QT, or AVi , a container with MPEG-2 inside it:
If you are using Final Cut Pro or other professional non-linear editing programs on the Mac, you cannot use the camera's native .TOD format, which is basically an MPEG inside the .TOD container.
Forget about following JVC's instructions: they are too time-consuming and don't allow batch processing. The easiest conversion method I've found requires two freeware programs: The VLC media player, and MPEG Streamclip, both available on the Apple Website (and elsewhere).
You'll first need to use the VLC player to convert the .TOD into a .TS file, which takes seconds (you are only changing the container format to MPEG TS, not actually changing compression). Once you've changed the .TOD file to a .TS file, you can use MPEG Streamclip to change to a variety of file formats that Final Cut Pro can recognize. Of course since you are recompressing the file at this point, expect this to take far longer than the first step.
Note - MPEG Streamclip requires Apple's MPEG-2 component to edit the video.

  • Reinstalled drivers Recording is distorted. Playback of existing files fine. SoundBlaster Live

I got a new motherboard an ABIT Socket A with an AMD 3000+ processor and gig of memory. After installing drivers 'Li'veDrvUni-Pack(ENG).exe' and also after installing patch 'Li'veDrvPack_Patch.exe' recording is distorted. The input level is not clipping but the playback of the new recording is horribly distorted. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers over and over and it just won't work. The playback of existing files is fine. Have duplicated problem with both ACID 4 , ACID 5, and microsoft sound reocorder, so I would assume it can't be an issue with recording software. I have the problem with a guitar plugged into the Mic and Aux2 inputs of the li've dri've as well as when recording 'What you Hear' with Winamp playing, so that rules out the li've dri've inputs. Has anyone had this same issue? I am going insane with this one. I had installed the KX drivers previously but found the interface awkward so I uninstalled them. I dont think that is the issue, since I have uninstalled them, as well as uninstalled and reinstalled the Creative drivers a few times since. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Yes exactly as you mentioned. I have SoundBlaster Li've! 24-Bit Internal and facing the same problem. All is working very good, but only sound in WOW is terrible: it's muffled, degraded and seems to runs only in 22khz.
It is a big irony because i bought this card only for WoW to replace my onboard card and now the old one sounds much better in WoW as the new SB
    Anyone with help?
Now it seems that I return my card like you... and people from creative, think about it! WoW is most played game ever!Message Edited by magnetique on 0-06-2006 :24 AM

The QT player is programmed to drop frames during playback if needed in an effort to maintain the target frame rate. If you want all frames to be played, the turn on the "Play all frames" viewing option but be advised that the playback frame rate may then vary drastically.

'JohnTSmith' Thanks for the links.  I'll be sure to add more details for future requests!
The computer is an iMac late 2013
Processor  3.2 GHz Intel Core i5

Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce GT 755M 1024 MB
The video file was a .mov file from a Canon 7D.  Essentially I downloaded Adobe Premiere CC 2014, downloaded the update because I tried to open up an older project and then imported one movie file.
Playback from all windows didn't work.  But after I tried to change settings in the preferences as 'RoninEdits' suggested but I ended up just searching around and didn't change anything.  I stepped away for a second to check on my cookies in the oven and when I came back press play and the video now works.  Any idea what happen?

  • No thumbnails or playback of MOV files in Adobe Bridge CC

    Hi
I recently downloaded and installed the latest version of Bridge from the Creative Cloud and I am unable to view thumbnails of .MOV files taken with an Apple iPhone5. I am able to open the file but there is no audio or video in the playback. Anyone else have similar issues? I am able to view these same files in Lightroom CC fine. I am using Windows 7 64-bit. Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Only thing I can think of is there must have been some kind of mixup in
the transfer process. Here's what I did: I plugged her phone into our
Macbook Air at home and transferred her stills and movies off from her
camera (using iPhoto) to a connected portable hard drive. From there I
copied and pasted the files onto a removable thumb drive. From there I
brought them to work on my PC and copied them off to a portable hard drive
there. Seems to me the MOV files got lost in translation somehow. It's
possible I didn't do this correctly? I know with MY iPhone images and
movies I copied them directly from my phone onto my computer (PC) when it
showed up as a device in my device listing. It wanted to use iTunes for
this but I bypassed iTunes and did it the old fashioned way. These are the
files that I am able to view correctly on my PC at work in Bridge. So I
guess I need to recheck my workflow here.

  • Java Programming: Any Ideas for breaking a huge class file into smaller ?

    Hello Java pros,
I have some very huge class files, some with dozens of methods; each method containing an average of a screen-page full of code.
Obviously, such huge class files are difficult to maintain inspite of using an IDE, especially when changes have to be made to a bunch of a category of methods scattered all over the class.
I am wondering if there are ways/best-practices out there to make the core class file smaller/smarter - fr eg.
<a> by retaining the real core definitions within the core class and moving the detailed implementation outside the core class
<b> by breaking down the file into more manageable pieces - something to the effect of using 'include' files that some languages support
    etc.
Thanks for your help in advance.

If you have huge class files with dozens of methods, maybe the design of your application is not so sound. You could use all kinds of OO design techniques to design your application so that it is easier to maintain.
Start by learning about design patterns. The most famous book about design patterns is this one: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0201633612/qid=1029971487/sr=2-1/ref=sr_2_1/102-4299125-5141710

  • Jerky playback of 1080p files

When trying to play back HD video captured with my Canon S1X, playback through QT is subtly jerky at actual size. When I decrease the window size, or strangely enter full screen, playback becomes smooth. Processors are barely working. Frame rate says 30 in inspector, but looks more like 10 or 15 on the screen.
    System: '07 2 dual-core 2.66 Mac Pro w/ 5G memory. OS 10.6.2. QT 10. The files generated by the camera are 1080P .mov (h.264).
I've tried converting them to M4P in handbrake, but no improvement. A friend of mine has the same Mac Pro, but with 8G ram, and he has the same problem. Playback on my Macbook Pro is even worse (very jerky). This is kind of annoying, my tower should be able to handle this. Or do I need to step up to a new system to be able to play 1080P at actual size?

An update: I've had better luck playing 1080P with VLC (ffmpeg skip loop set to Non-ref), and MPlayer OSX extended. While both apps will play the file smoothly, neither offer the control of Quicktime. QT scrubs more smoothly & offers smooth forward & back increment.

  • Quicktime will not allow playback of .mov files (format DVCPRO HD)

    hi
i'm unable to play .mov files with quicktime application. i am using mac 10.4.11 and have the latest version of quicktime 7.4.5.
when i click the files the screen shows only white, and sometimes only audio, no images.
i am unsure if upgrading to quicktime pro would solve this, or if i need to download additional plug ins to support .mov playback.
i have opened to the movie inspector page and it does not tell me what plug in is needed - it lists the source, format, fps, playing fps (when available), data size, data rate, current time, duration and normal size.
how do i find which plug in i need?
    thanks for hopefully helping. sara

I actually found a link to download the missing components that you listed. i installed the package and it now shows under hard drive / library / quicktime but the HD files will still not play in Quicktime.
could this be because i do not have FCP?
I do not need to edit with the clips - merely to be able to playback to review.
    thanks sara

  • Choppy playback with mxf files...

Hello.  I have been working with Premiere Pro CS3 for quite sometime until just recently.  Then last week I installed Windows 7, then Premiere Pro CS5.5 along with various updates.  I usually work with DVCProHD (Panasonic), 720p, 60p.  I just started working on a new project and playback is very choppy, whether the footage is rendered or not.  Everything else works fine.  My computer (purchased in 2008) has Dual Intel Xeon 5150 (10.64 Ghz total), 4GB DDR2-667 FBDIMM RAM (4x1GB), and an ATI FireGL V3350 256MB PCIe Video Card.  I am using a dual monitor set up as I used to do with Premiere Pro CS3 and Windows XP (with no problem before I went to CS5.5).   I checked the settings for the Mecury Playback and it seems to show that it is selected but also grayed out (can't be changed to anything else).  Anyone have thoughts on why the choppy playback?  Even Premiere 6.0 never gave me choppy playback  like this.  Thanks in advance.

    > Exactly how much RAM is Premiere Pro CS5.5 able to use at maximum?
All of it. That's one of the reasons that we ported Premiere Pro to be 64-bit.
Are all files of all types giving you choppy playback, or just some? If it's only some files, then tell us as much as you can about those files.

  • Encoding and playback problem HD files

    Hi all,
Currently, I'm using a new HD camcorder and have no problem with importing and playing these files is premiere cs4 pro. However, when I'm using six video track at the same time I experience some playback problems. After rendering, the video's play, but not smooth, they  skip frames and playing a few frames back. In other words, it seems that the video playback stutters. The problem still excists when I encode the project to any file (mpeg2-blu ray, avi, etc). When using two video tracks (with two HD video) this problem is not present, even when these video's are in slowmotion. Installing the new update (4.2) did not solve the problem.
    Specs of my system:
    Quad core Q6600 @3.0GHz (overclocked)
    8gb RAM
    >200gb free disk space
    windows 7, 64-bit
Does anyone have some suggestions to solve this problem? Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Jeffrey

    Harm,
Sorry for not responing for a few days, but I runned the benchmark you'll send me. The main results (dee details attached file):
    53,6,  secs Total Benchmark Time
    6,4,  secs AVI  Encoding Time
    14,2,  secs MPEG Elapsed Time
    33,  secs Rendering Time
Since the potential problem is my hard disk, inaddition, I runned HDtune (hopefully it will help pinpionting the problem):
disk1: avarage transfer rate: 94MB/s, acces time 13.8ms, burst rate 185MB/s
disk2: avarage transfer rate: 85MB/s, acces time 14ms, burst rate 157MB/s
disk3: avarage transfer rate: 73MB/s, acces time 13.9ms, burst rate 183MB/s
Analyzing these results, could the current hard disk configuration cause the problem I have, or is my system to slow anyway to edit AVCHD material?
If the hard disk configuration is the problem, could it be solved by applying your suggestion by removing all partitions? Since, I'm not looking forward of removing all partions(re-installing windows (dual boot win7 and vista), shifting a huge amount of data, etc), but if it would help I will do it.
    Thanks inadvance,
    Jeffrey

I am trying to convert this word document to multiple pdf files seperated by the section breaks in the Microsoft word. How can I convert the single microsoft word document with section breaks to multiple seperate pdf files?

Acrobat (Adobe PDF Printer and PDFMaker ) doesn't recognize the Section breaks.  It never has as far as I am aware.  The easiest thing to do is to manually break up a copy of the MS Word Document into the Sections you need and then create the PDFs from those MS Word documents.
