7.5 Upgrade Created Itunes Black Hole

*Thank you Apple!* Your 7.5 ituens has killed ITunes on my computer and you offer no support.
I absentmindedly clicked on Upgrade to 7.5 which loaded but when it was rebooting - it somehow created a obnoxious noise through the speakers and froze my computer requiring me to hard crash. When I rebooted - Itunes no longer works. Problem is - it created an endless loop of deadends to fix.
When I re-download 7.5 - it loads and posts a meaningless message" Feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable." Options offered: Click OK = nothing. Second option "Browse for itunes.msi" One finds many of these files and I can even find the ".msi" in the 7.5 download. None work. New message says the "itunes.msi is not a valid installation package."
Thinking that I must remove the older version and start fresh - one uses the control panle / remove ITunes = one gets sent back into loop looking for "itunes.msi which is then reported "invalid."
Hoping to somehow get rid of old itunes and not lose music and computer limit.
With the amount of money Apple makes off of itunes - they should offer some free support!

This isn't an iTunes 7.5 thing. All those messages are familiar from earlier versions of itunes.
Let's try the following procedure.
First, head into your Add/Remove programs and uninstall your QuickTime. If it goes, good. If it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to iTunes.
Next, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Now launch Windows Installer CleanUp ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"), find any iTunes and/or QuickTime entries in the list of programs in CleanUp, select those entries, and click “remove”.
Next, we'll manually remove any leftover iTunes or QuickTime program files:
(1) Open Local Disk (C:) in Computer or whichever disk programs are installed on.
(2) Open the Program Files folder.
(3) Right-click the iTunes folder and select Delete and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion.
(4) Right-click the QuickTime folder and select Delete and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. (Note: This folder may have already been deleted if QuickTime was successfully removed using Add/Remove Programs earlier.)
(5) Delete the QuickTime and QuicktimeVR files located in the C:\Windows\system32\ folder. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue. (Note: These files may have already been deleted if QuickTime was successfully removed using Add/Remove Programs earlier.)
(6) Right-click on the Recycle Bin and on the shortcut menu, click Empty Recycle Bin.
(7) Restart your computer.
Now try another iTunes 7.5 update. Does it go through properly? If so, does iTunes launch properly again?

  • Recently upgraded to iTunes 6 --- previously purchased music not found

FYI - I did have "copy files to iTunes folder when adding to library" selected in iTunes preferences.
Is this just a quircky deal that will make me move to iSongs? Or has anybody run into this and solved it? I'm not new to macs or OSX, but I am new to iTunes music store (such an honest downloader!). Any help out there? It would be greatly appreciated ... and possibly save me the loss of $100 or so to the iTunes black-hole. Thanks in advance ...

  • I am having trouble printing cd inserts since i upgraded to iTunes 10.2.1.1, I get a black block where the artwork is supposed to print... help!

Anyone have an answer for why since I upgraded to iTunes 10.2.1.1 I can no longer print artwork on my CD inserts - the text prints fine, but I get a black block of ink where the artwork should be...

This problem disappeared with a later version BUT it has reappeared with 11.02.26 again. Maybe they put the old code back! This really is getting quite ridiculous where iterations are not fully tested before they are released. Very poor professionalism indeed.

  • Will we get The Black Hole soundtrack that is on the US Itunes in the UK???

As usual the UK version of Itunes is way behind the US one. They seem to have a far better database of film music than the UK one. Will we be getting the Black Hole soundtrack that has recently been posted on the US store?

Sorry, but we're all just your fellow users here and have no way of knowing what may or may not appear in an given country's iTunes Store. You can submit suggestions for the iTunes Music Store through the feedback page (make sure you clearly specify which country's iTunes Store you're referring to). Whether or not your suggestion will ever be acted upon will depend on a number of factors, some out of Apple's control (to start with, the artists and record companies have to be willing to license the tracks to Apple for your country), so don't expect instant action.
Forum Tip: Since you're new here, you've probably not discovered the Search feature available on every Discussions page, but next time, it might save you time (and everyone else from having to answer the same question multiple times) if you search a couple of ways for a topic, both in the relevant forums, in the User Tips Library and in the Apple Knowledge Base before you post a question.

  • Problems since upgrading to Itunes 6.0.1.3

Ever since upgrading to Itunes 6.0.1.3, songs will not update to my Ipod. Called Tech Support twice on this and they suggested: Uninstalling/reinstalling Itunes (done three times so far); Reformatting the Ipod back to factory default (done twice); disabling anti-virus. NONE of this has worked. Also found out that Apple Tech Support is VERY weak on Itunes support. Songs show in my Library, but will not update to Ipod. Any suggestions?

Ever since upgrading to Itunes 6.0.1.3, songs will
not update to my Ipod. Called Tech Support twice on
    this and they suggested: Uninstalling/reinstalling
Itunes (done three times so far); Reformatting the
Ipod back to factory default (done twice); disabling
anti-virus. NONE of this has worked. Also found out
that Apple Tech Support is VERY weak on Itunes
support. Songs show in my Library, but will not
    update to Ipod. Any suggestions?
Found my solution after spending 1 hour/10 min on phone. Tech referred me to article 93716 (removing Itunes, Empty Temp Directory). I still had the same issue (not all songs updating). I checked Windows Explorer and the files that were NOT updating were located in backup folder I had created at some point during the two-week troubleshooting process. When I moved these folders into the Itunes directory, EVERYTHING started working again (creating playlists, burning CD's, moving music to my Ipod).
I learned that even though Itunes shows everything in your Library broken down by playlist, purchased music, etc.--they could be ANYWHERE on your hard drive. However, to update the Ipod, it appears they need to be in the Itunes directory.
I'm not sure why all this broke in the first place, but here is a list of the articles that I followed:
Article #93698, #32222, 93716. I also learned that the Apple Tech Lady, although very nice, could NOT tell me anything about the directory structure of Itunes, where the songs should be, or much about Itunes in general.

  • I upgraded to iTunes 8 and now it wont open at all

Ok so I upgraded to iTunes 8 and now every time I try to open my iTunes it says that iTunes has unexpectedly quit and it asks me if I want to relaunch it so I click relaunch and the same thing happens. iTunes is like my second life so can somebody pllleeeeaaaaassseeee help me!!

I would first see if you can open iTunes in a test user. This will give us some direction in troubleshooting the issue.
    To create a test user:
    1. Open System Preferences from your Apple menu
    2. Click on the Accounts icon
    3. If you see a closed padlock in the lower left hand corner, click on it and enter your admin password to allow changes
    4. Then, click the + button
    5. Enter the information you are prompted for, and then click "Create Account"
    6. Restart the computer and log in to the new account
Once logged in, see if you can open iTunes. If not, I'd recommend reinstalling iTunes:
    Go to your Applications folder
    Drag iTunes.app to the Trash
    Restart the Mac
    Empty the Trash
    Download & install from http://www.apple.com/itunes/download
If you can open it in the test account, return to your original account and try removing your iTunes preferences file.
Quit iTunes if it is running.
    Navigate to /User/Library/Preferences/
    Drag com.apple.itunes.plist to the trash
    Restart the Mac
    Launch iTunes again
If it still isn't working, try recreating the library per these steps:

  • Ipod Classic will no longer play video podcasts after upgrade to iTunes 10.

I have a 120GB Classic. I used to be able to play video podcasts just fine. Since upgrading to iTunes 10.0 in September I can see Podcasts with a little video symbol next to them on the iPod, but when I click on them the screen goes black for a couple of seconds, then flips back to the menu. If I copy the Podcast to a playlist, I get audio but no video, as always. The video podcast plays fine on the PC. I've tried "converting to iPod or iPhone version" with no success. I've Googled this problem and found many others with this issue, none with their question answered. Does anyone know if this is an issue acknowledged by Apple, and if so, do they plan to fix it? Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
    Thanks.

am having the same problem with hannah montana episodes, anyone have a solution? apple?

  • I just upgraded to iTunes 10.6.1 and now my library is not loaded, how do I get it back?

I upgraded to iTunes 10.6.1 overnight and when I start it now
there is no media loaded, no songs, no films and no TV Shows.
I have tried starting using the shift key to point iTunes back to my library location,
    but still no luck.
    Has anyone got any ideas??

So, I have managed to fix the problem.
I found that the upgrade had replaced my library files with empty ones.
So I restored the backup I made of them before the upgrade and
now all my media is back.
    Great..
For those who run across this therad and haven't taken the effort to make a backup here is another approach that should work.
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • Some mp3 files do not play after upgrading to iTunes 8.0

some mp3 files do not play after upgrading to iTunes 8.0
have upgraded and some songs which used to play on iTunes 7 no longer play. album art is missing. when trying to play on of these songs, nothing appears in the playbar at the top of the window.
it seems the same problem exists in the mac os environment.

The solution I discovered to fix this problem was to create a smart playlist with all song of a kind containing MPEG. Then I went through album by album, and coverted ID3 tags using the value of NONE. This then enabled me to play the songs in iTunes 8.0 and in many cases restored the Album Art.
    Thanks!

  • 'Sync conflicts' with Outlook after upgrading to iTunes 7.4

Since upgrading to iTunes 7.4 2 days ago I now receive a 'sync conflict' error with entries on Outlook calendar when syncing the iPhone. It allows me to view each conflict but I cannot see any differences between the entries that are apparently conflicting.
I can continue and all seems fine, but it happens every time I sync.
    Has anyone else seen this?
    Thanks
    Rixta

It is possible to get iTunes 7.4 working with Outlook 2002, in spite of Apple saying that they don't support it. I posted it as Solution to Syncing with Outlook XP (Outlook 2002.)
Just save the following file from your current installation of iTunes 7.3 (you can copy and paste it to your Windows desktop):
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\SyncServices\Clients\com.apple.Outlook\Contents\Windows\
    com.apple.Outlook
Then be sure you have a current backup of your Outlook.pst file.
Upgrade to iTunes 7.4.3.1, and connect the iPhone. Open the Info tab in iTunes, and check the boxes and use the pull down menus to select Outlook for contacts, calendar and mail. You should then have no problem syncing to the iPhone.
Too bad about the loss of the music you purchased, I would suggest you call Apple and have them give you a credit, as they created the loss through their either accidental or intentional modification of iTunes (actually Apple Mobile Device Support.)

  • Audio skipping distortions after upgrading to iTunes 7.5

Since I downloaded iTunes 7.5 all of my audio on my laptop has random distortions in it (sounds exactly like a prcessor glitch but isnt caused by that). It isn't corrected when I play media through other programs leading me to think that it wasnt iTunes at first. But after many hours of trying to see what else it could be (and that fact that this happened just after I had upgraded to itunes 7.5) I'm now sure that it must be the new iTunes.I found that if i converted my music to ACC through iTunes then it played correctly but this doesnt solve it messing up the sound on my DVD or windows media player and I can't convert any songs purchased through the music store.
(Have checked it's not my soundcard or CPU usage that's the problem)
    Any suggestions?
    Dexian

I had the same horrible skipping problem. Here's what I did to correct it. You need to get itunes ver 6.0.5. My problem started when I upgraded to ver 7 and every version thereafter. First, backup your iTunes library of purchased songs. Get rid of all traces of iTunes ver 7 installation off your hard drive. Install iTunes ver 6.0.5 - then import your iTunes music (I found I had to also delete the two small library files that were created by the later versions of iTunes to be able to import and create the library for ver 6.0.5). After creating the library, all my purchased iTunes songs then appeared in iTunes. The first time I clicked on a song to play it a pop-up window appeared asking to authorize the song on this machine(my PC). I used the same ID and password that I always had used to purchase the iTunes originally. Then everything was great again. It took me a long time to figure out that an earlier version (pre ver 7) was the fix. By the way, prior to doing all the above, I had just re-installed WinXP on a blank hard drive. Hope this works for you - if it does don't ever click yes when the pop-up shows up in iTunes saying that a newer version is available.
