My Macbook pro 2011 suddenly has a really slow bootup. What can I do? I did install a cannon printer upgrade and security upgrade. Not sure if it was something to do with that. Also I tried the disk utility repair and didn't improve anything. I also reset PRAM and SMC.
1. Try booting in e Verbose mode - press and hold [cmd] + [v] keys just right after the boot chord sounds till you get a black screen and white letters.
if there are some delays in the boot process - you should see where the system is stuck.
this mode is not permanent - the next [re-] boot will be normal.
2. repair permissions. disk utility does fine. Disk Warrior is better.
sometimes after half done updates (it may happen though should not) there are items that are "belonging to someone else"
3. try cache cleaner (or there are some other utilities as well - I just like SlCC more) http://www.northernsoftworks.com/snowleopardcachecleaner.html - it's shareware though the basic functionality is free for you to use.
Try caches -> deep cleaning (please read the developers site what it does) and select checkmark at all options - reply yes to the requests and after a reboot the next reboot should be as it is intended.
p.s be sure you do have backup -

It is hardly Apple's fault that Epson can't/won't update their driver, but at least Epson suggest that you use the Gutenprint driver, which in any case is far better that what Epson offer.

If you are wondering why you are not getting any responses, it is because you have vented a complaint without any details that make any sense or give anyone something to work on.
If you want help, I suggest actually detailing what has happened, with versions of software etc. Anything that would let us assist.
As a start I am guessing that you have not really got the hang of "How it all works". Firstly download the Pages09_UserGuide.pdf from under the Help menu. Read that and view the Video Tutorials in the same place. A good addition would be the iWork 09 Missing manual book and something to help you learn how to use your Mac.

I'm trying to send photos from my laptop (Macbook Pro 13") that aren't in my iphoto, to my iPod Touch 5g via airdrop, but when i know i have the bluetooth and airdrop turned on, neither show up on either device. They're both signed into the same icloud (and apple id). The other solutions I thought of are emailing them... over a hundred, five 1080x1920 (or something like that) pictures per email, and then take the time to save each one, send them through iphoto (which i'm sure costs a few dollars in the app store, or send them through another internet based app (like dropbox).
Are photos (and documents and stuff) able to send through airdrop if the two devices are logged into the same icloud? -thanks- AirDrop only work between iOS devices and between later Mac omputer, Not between an iOS device and a Mac computer. Do not ask why.

Ok so my wireless is really slow. So i took it to the apple store to get it looked at by they said my wireless card is in perfect working order. So this leads me to believe that it might be my router. I have a Belkin wireless N router Modle number F6D4230-4 v1. I have time warner cable as my ISP. The problem is that my computer is very slow while the PC's in the house are alot faster. I have a Macbook Pro Unibody 13 inch. Any suggestions or tips on how to configure my router to work best would be a great help.
I know torrents can slow down the network speeds! But even when im not running any torrents and im the only one on the network i still get slow speeds. Was wondering if it would help if i got a Airport extreme base station.

My Macbook Pro suddenly became really slow
3 Days ago my Macbook Pro suddenly became really slow. I can't run anything without my computer freezing. I've had my Macbook Pro since mid-2012 (21 months). The first thing i did was check my activity monitor, which said that I was apparently using 4 GB (half) of my Macbook Pro's RAM, even though nothing was running. The process that was using the most RAM was kernal.task, which was only around 600mb of RAM. All the processes RAM amounts only added up to around 1 GB, not four. I can't even open safari without my computer freezing. The amount of RAM being "used" on my computer slowly started to increase, even though nothing was running, until it got to all 8 GB being used. When i restart my computer, it goes back to 4 GB and starts to rise again. My processor, on the other hand, is doing nothing. Its acting normally. How do i get my computer back to its usual performance?

OS X 10.9.2Since you are using Mavericks OS, the amount of RAM being used is inconsequential but the 'pressure' is. If green is showing then the RAM usage is normal. This is a change fro prior OSX's.
The usual problem will lie with the HDD, It may be too full or needs to be repaired or replaced. Go into OSX recovery and select from the 4 option menu Disk Utility. Choose First Aid and run Verify and Repair.
(Start the MBP with the OPTION key down and select the recovery partition)
If that does not solve the problem, try a safe boot:

If the MBP responds 'normally' that usually indicates that there is a third part application that is causing the problem. They have to bedeleted and reinstalled in a systematic way so that you can identify the culprit.

FF4 is really slow all of a sudden
I get on a site and FF 4.0 goes really slow. I see that it is trying to use 10000000000000000000000000000% of the processor and I have no idea why (task manager is at 100% when FF4.0 is running). It seems to be on every site now. I have an old computer but I have no money also.
Just an obvious thought . . . make sure you check your software updates. Maybe quicktime isn't updated? Or the rest of the suite?

Airport Extreme Airdisk's REALLY SLOW all of a sudden
I have my media hard drive connected via USB to my Airport Extreme. It serves all the media for my iTunes libraries etc. It's been working flawlessly for months, but now all of a sudden, it's cripplingly slow.
I've been trying to transfer one 800mb video file all night and it keeps saying "21 hours" and only transfers a few kb every minute or two.
I've restarted my Airport Extreme, disconnected and reconnected the USB HD and restarted the ADSL modem the AE connects to the internet through. I've also tried a variety of different files.
No difference.
Any thoughts? I know I could completely reset my AE, but if a restart won't fix it, then I doubt a reset will.chirhodesign, any update on the situation?
i'm helping my friend overseas with this exact same problem. she just bought a new hdd and as a shared network drive via airport extreme it's EXTREMELY SLOW, maybe around 100kbps transfer rate. we're pulling our hair out trying to troubleshoot this.
does anybody have a possible solution? -
System suddenly running really slow
I use the same programs every day. My system works at an acceptable speed in general, unless of course if I open too many apps in the same time, but this is something I don't usually do.
Today using the same and even less apps as before, my system runs really slow. Switching between apps takes forever, every click takes its time, and I see nothing strange in the activity monitor.
Does anyone have any ideas about this?
Thank you for your help.One thing to check: Amount of free space on your hard drive. You should have at least 15% free for the OS to do its thing.

Suddenly really slow broadband
Hi,
since a couple of days I got really slow broadband and cant figure out why, called support and they said they call back today but noone did so I thought I try here.
I swapped microfilters, double checked pcs for any spyware/virus etc, tried my work laptop, using the mastersocket for 24 hrs as requested by the engineer on the phone which didnt make a difference and screwed the frontplate back on and ran another speed test
below is some infos from my router, just 20 mins connected now but already showing some errors not sure how significant they are as I never checked that when all was working fine.

MacBook Pro suddenly runs really slow
I have a mid-2012 13" non-retina macbook pro that I bought September 22, 2013 and Friday it started running really slow, like it takes 5 minutes for it to startup and two minutes to log in. I opened up the console and I get all these errors and I've reset the SMC and PRAM and I've also restored from time capsule backup and still no use. What do I do? I don't care if I have to wipe my hard drive since all my stuff is backed up to iCloud and my Time Capsule. And they're a continuous string of errors. I've also performed a disk utility and nothing came up in red.Well you're helpful lol. I contacted them twice and they weren't of much help. I found out what was causing the issue. I had the program MacFanControl installed and when I went to uninstall it, I just dragged it to the trash can and emptied it. I went to the website where I got it and followed the instructions on how to remove it and now its running like it did before.

MacBook Pro suddenly really slow, hangs often
My MacBook Pro is about 2 years old. It had been slowing down and occasionally running out of memory, which I figured was due to the fact that my hard disk was kind of full (had about 100 Gig of space available, which I thought should be enough, but whatever). But in the past 2 days this has gotten really, really worse. It's almost unusable. It's running Snow Leopard.
It takes a full 5 mibutes to start.
When I open an application it takes really long to open, then evey few things I do it hangs for a couple of minutes with the rainbow wheel spinning. Occasionally an application completely stops responding, and has to be force quit.
This even happens if I have only one app open at a time.
What has changed recenttly:
• 2 weeks ago I switched from DSL to cable. I have a new cable modem and wireless router. There is some random software that Comcast sent me but I don't think it's even installed.Things were still running slow and frustrating but pasable after that.
• 5 days ago I bought a new Droid 3 cell phone, and installed The Missing Sync on my computer to sync music, photos and calendar. It still ran slow after that, but not crazy messed up like now. I don't remember if the speed seemed any worse -- I just know that it didn't hang often the way it does now.
• 2 days ago I bought a new MacBook Pro with a faster processor, runnign Lion. I started migration assistant, then realized it was going to take 14 hours and I had work to do, so I stopped the assistant. and decided to run it again later. I think it's since then things became a complete mess, and every day that passes seems worse.
• In the meantime, I may or may not have installed some software updates. I get update notices all the time, and generally install them right away without giving them much thought. In fact, now that I think of it, Firefox startded acting pretty slow after the last update (spinning wheel when opening new tabs, loading information, switching from one tab to the other), which I attributed to a buggy new release but it might be related. I don't know how long ago that was; I think about a week or two. There may have beensome OS udates too, I can't remember.
I did run migration assistant again late last night, after cleaning out my old hard disk (backing things up to DVDs and external drives) so it would have less data to transfer. But it transfered over everything, including old apps thatI don't need and don't know how to uninstall, and I am worried that I might have transeferred over whatever the problem was with the old computer. I can't easily test because the apps that I use every day (Microsoft Office 2008 and the Adobe Creative Suite CS4) don't run on Lion so I will have to buy upgrades for everythign before I can do any work on this computer, which is quite frustrating in itself but a different story. So I haven't been able to test whether my new laptop has the same problem; it does generally seem faster but not as much of a speed increase as I had hoped.
I ran disk utility on the old laptop, and it did find some directory issues, but I can't repair it because I don't have any discs to start up from. Why is it that Apple doesn't ship disks with its software? Granted, my new laptop runs a different operating system from the old one, but I didn't receive any system disks with it so I really don't have anything to start externally from if there ever are any problems.
I want to keep the old mac. I occasionally travel to countries where I don't feel comfortable bringing a new expensive computer, so I intend to use my old computer as a travel laptop and the new one as my primary work laptop in my home office. But that means that I don't want to have to throw out the old one, I need to get it working again.
(also, until I install the Microsoft and Adobe upgrades, I can't do any work on my new laptop and I have deadlines to meet that I will need to continue working on with the old laptop) (which, in fact, makes thisissue rather urgent -- I ned to keep working while it's being resolved)OK, so someine suggested I run AppleJack -- it did make some repairs and now Disk Utility doesn't see anything wrong with my directory, but still finds some permissions problems. Almost all of them seem to be in System/Library/CoreServices/Front Row.app. Says:
should be -rw-r--r--, they are lrw-r--r--
Do I need to fix these or can I leave as is? What is Front Row? Does it make any difference who has permissions on these if they are for a program I don't use?
Also:
stalling problems seem to have been resolved for now (I opened 3 different apps and they seemto work OK). But I still have a problem with the Microsoft Office applications -- I can't easily switch to/from Excel or Word from/to any other apps, I can't CTRL-TAB and select the app, I have to go to that app's window (means moving other windows around until I can see it) and click on it to switch to that app. It's doable but a nuisance. Can it be fixed?
Also - important:
Would the directory problems I had on my old hard disk have affected the information I ported over to the new laptop yesterday? Will I have the same problems on my new laptop? I can't check because I haven't downloaded the upgrades to Microsoft Office and to the Adobe CS Suite, so I pretty much can't open hardly any programs on my new machine right now. I thought maybe I should run Applejack on that too, just to check, but apparently it doesn't work with OSX 7 Lion.
