7" to 10" inches monitor suggestion (must be nice!)

Hi there, I plan to buy a Mac Mini as a media center but would like to know if small and nice monitors exist on the market? I found the Philips Digital Picture Frame quite nice but it could not be use as a monitor. Any idea? Should be in the range 7" to 10" and be really nice (no buttons, thin, clean). Any suggestions?

If you're in an area that has Craig's list or something similar, I've found that to be a good source of cheap older MacBooks.
10.7 is Lion and the minimum requirements are here:
System requirements for OS X Lion and Mac OS X v10.6
"OS X Lion system requirements
To use Lion, make sure your computer has the following:
An Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
Mac OS X v10.6.6 or later to install via the Mac App Store (v10.6.8 recommended); you can install without Mac OS X v10.6 by using an OS X Lion USB Thumb Drive, available on the Apple Online Store
7 GB of available disk space
2 GB of RAM"
So just about any Intel Mac except the Core Solos and the Core Duos
This site is a good resource for which machines are compatible with Lion:

We have five faulty Lenovo ThinkVision 19 inches monitor -L194WD.
Quota of upper part of the monitor is washed-out  or fuzzy and three quotas of the lower part of the monitor appear to be OK. Any idea, advice or solution will be extremely appreciated. Please help me to solve this problem.

    Huskka,
    Welcome to the forum...
Can you tell us a bit more about the situation?    How many of these displays do you have in total?  Just these five?    And all five of them do exactly the same thing, when connected to the same computer?
How long have you had these?   Have they ever worked properly, and this condition developed over time, or have they never worked in this configuration?
What system are you connecting them to?   Are you using an analog or digital connection?
    Thanks

  • External Monitor Suggestions (19"-22") for MacBook (Santa Rosa,GMA X3100)

Man! I am loving this new macbook, working with Logic Studio.
    Any External Monitor Suggestions (19"-22")?
Looking for a reliable monitor at a good price.
    thanks in advance!

I'm using a Samsung 19 inch SyncMaster 940BW digital/analog wide screen monitor. It comes with both a DVI and a VGA cable. I am using it with a Mini DVI to DVI cable and getting a great digital picture out. It also was good price.

  • Working with 30 inches monitors and speed degradation

Hi! I'm working in Windows with a 30 inches monitor, using a Quadro FX 5800 so have a lot of GL power. I observed that there is a significant speed degradation on the refresh rate of mask editing and layer moving when I maximize AE to the 30 inches monito on a resolution of 2560x1600 even when the project I'm working on it is just NTSC, apparently this is cause for the big area on the camera view, if I detach the view from the interface and trim it to the NTSC size, so I do not see any gray space on the sides, the the speed gets much better. It seems that AE is refreshing the whole view, even the gray areas outside of the NTSC size. This looks to me like a bad optimization of the view, I hope to see this better optimized for CS5, and I was able to reproduce this on any machine I tried with a 30 inches monitor.
    Thanks

    Dear Apple,
Apparently you aren't taking the dual link monitor issue seriously enough. I will therefore not be spending $3000 on your current line of products, but will upgrade my existing MPB. If you want my money, be SURE to support power users who use 30 inch monitors externally (DELL monitors, not Apple's offerings). I bided my time, sure that reports that the dual link adapters (which I shouldn't have to buy anyway, as my monitor has regular DisplayPort on it) was fixed would surface. As they have not, I will not be buying at this time.

  • Monitor suggestion

    Hi
I am struggeling with a question.
I want somwhere to view discs when I burn DVD's and BR's
At the moment I have a Sony BR player and a 22" samsung TV, which basicly is ok, but not that big, compared to that my clients watch the same discs on 32+ inch screens.
I have a 24" Dell monitor capable of 1920 x 1080, that I use to preview my timeline via a Matrox MXO2 mini, that I could use with an HDMI auto-switch. It's "only" 24", but it is excellent quality.
I could use that or get a 32" flatscreen TV cabable of 1920 x 1080.
I am not 100% sure what I should do.
    Thanks for any input :)
    Ulf

  • LCD Monitor Suggestion

My 19" monitor is looking like it's on it's last legs and I'm looking to replace it with an 18" or 19" LCD.  Does anyone here have an suggestions on a good LCD monitor that will work well with games?  From what I can tell I think I need something with sub 20ms response times but if any of you has actual real world experience with one, let me know?

  • Monitor Suggestions PS and Premeiere

    Hi,
Looking for suggestions for a 24-26'' monitor to use in both PS work and Premiere. I have a few that I am considering.
    NEC Multisync P221W-BK
    HP ZR24w
    HP LP2475w
I know that the IPS are better, I guess my concern is one that will work well for both video editing ( not super fat graphics intense at all) and photo editing, both from a color and a performance standpoint.
    thanks

  • Network and Bandwidth Monitor Suggestion?

I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion for a network monitor application that runs well on Leopard Server. I would hope it could provide statistics on different ethernet interfaces as well as filter down to ip addresses. I've used Network Monitor (but it doesn't seem to filter down to monitoring ip addresses) and ntop but I don't know if runs on Leopard. It would be used to check for bottlenecks as well as monitor bandwidth usage for individual ip's. Thanks for any suggestions.

Solarwinds is one of the best tools our clients purchased for pinpointing issues on their LAN. All too often a tech points to the network as a problem, only to find through Solarwinds that the problem is related to CPU or memory or disk space, etc. Solarwinds is easy to use and the amount of time and trouble it saved payed for itself many times over in a very short amount of time.

  • HD monitor suggestion for use with Mac Mini.

    Hello Group,
Can anyone suggest the best (or good, compatible) HD monitor to use with my new mac mini just purchased (late 2009 model). Can't afford the apple cinema's so I'm looking for a cheaper option to still have HD using HDMI inputs, looking to spend around $200-$300..also do I need to purchase an adapter of some kind?. Thanks so much for any suggestions!

Although I have no specifics, from various articles I have read
about the condition, a few things stand out.
What seems the most prevelant and makes a lot of sense is
to use a monitor that has a matte finish screen.  Glossy screens
regardless how you tweek lighting and viewing positions will always
have some amount background reflection.  It can be so low as to
not be conciously perceptible, but the eye is still detecting it and
is trying to correct for it and what is viewed on the screen.
On the subject of lighting, with the wider spread use of CFL
lights could be adding more people to the list with this problem.
The "cycle times" of these can conflict with display refresh times
causing the susceptable persons eyes to get confused.  The old
incandescent bulbs had much less of this effect.
Screen refresh rate can also be an issue.  With the iMacs and
the Thunderbolt displays as well, these are fixed and cannot be
tweeked, atleast not without third party intervention.  With a
Mini and some other third party monitor, adjusting refresh rates
    can help.
Environment in general is a major contributor as well.
So, resolving the issue may not be as simple as just getting
a different monitor, although matte screens seem to be a
    major help.

  • Monitor suggestion for HD 16:9 4:3 NTSC and PAL

Great place you all have. Loads and loads of useful information and the occasional heated argument/disscusion keeps me logged on.
I work in the corporate world and the company is making the logical move from print advertising to broadcast advertising and I convinced the boss that we start shooting everything in HD, even though the projects will probably be down-converted to SD for broadcast. I firmly believe that our moving images archive should contain as much HD as possible because soon everyone will be viewing in HD and I don't want our stuff to standout in a negative way.
Since we will, very soon, be doing nearly everything in-house, I'm getting our post-production editing suite together (along with continuing my FCP education) and I need to a get a production monitor installed. We are an international company so some of our projects will need to be in PAL and the flexability of switching from 4:3 to 16:9 is imparative.
I did some searching and reading, in this section, about what some of you are using as monitors but I didn't catch any mention of HD monitors. The budget is tight (naturally) and 9" will be sufficient with portability being a bonus feature but not a necessity.
If you think I might get more responses in the hardware section of the forum I'll ask there but it seems more applicable here.
    Suggestions?
    Cheers,

  • Monitor suggestions for Christmas list

I have been using a pair of JBL2600 bookshelf speakers for my monitors. They are OK, but I'd like to get some nice studio monitors in the under $500 range, preferably in the $350-400 range. I am looking for a nice tight bass response. The JBLs I have offer 60Hz - 23kHz. I am told the listed Frequency Response for monitors is not always across the board, so I am now confused. I see the Alesis M1 Active 620 boasts 38Hz - 23.5kHz, but the sales associate assigned to me at Sweetwater suggests the Event ALP 5 which shows 53Hz - 20kHz. I have nowhere locally that I can go and check them out for myself. Can anyone here offer some advice to pander?

I wouldn't pay any attention to specs in this spectrum of the marketplace, as I don't think (given your budget) that you'll get anything that'll deliver real low-ish bass response.
Maybe wait until you could afford some Mackie HR 624 or (even better) HR 824's. Both have great, tight, bass IMO, but I listen and work with rock music, so your mileage may vary, depending on the music you work with.
Within your budget, I have heard KRK Rokits and Wharfedale 5" Diamonds which were nice.
    This might help:
    http://www.tweakheadz.com/studio_monitors.htm
which contains one of my favorite lines: ...This brings us to Tweak's Law, which says, whatever your monitors are good at is exactly what your mix will be bad at...
Finally, can't you spend some time auditioning monitors somewhere near you with your own material? Monitors are such a personal choice that it's really hard to decide without listening to a bunch of them. If you're located too far from a dealer, at least Sweetwater probably gives you a 30-day return, so you could order 3 or 4 different models and send the least impressive back before you have to pay your credit card bill!

  • Affordable Display/Monitor Suggestions for G5?

I'm currently shopping around for an affordable 19" display for my Powermac G5. I would love to own one of the immaculate Apple displays but they're way beyond my budget.
Can you shoot over some suggestions for 19" LCD Flat panel displays that are affordable? ($250 max)
*Is there anything I need to keep in mind "specs-wise" while shopping for a display? Are there compatability factors I need to be aware of since this is for a G5? Any info/tips would greatly be appreciated!
    Thanks much!

  • New Router Hub 3 & Broadband Monitor Suggests High...

I have just replaced my ADSL Voyager router with a BT Hub type 3.
I am a low Broadband user, about, 0.25/day but checking the usage monitor today my usage per day for July has increased to 0.3/ day
Has the hub caused this or have BT a problem?
    How do I evaluate?

Im reviving this thread, so far from the phone box upstairs Ive shortened the cable, It still goes into my room but now instead of having a ridiculous 15m amount of calbing unused Its a straight 3m from the other room to mine.
    This has slightly improoved things.
However the hub still suffers and drops the broadband connection when under "stress" when the phone rings it sometimes drops, and when downloading files it drops halfway through if the file is large which is a massive pain.
On the downstairs master socket I removed the facia and did a quiet line test on the inside socket, there was no noise. I used a corded phone. I wasnt sure if it mattered but I tested all other sockets using this method and none had any noise.
I phoned BT and was advised to take the hub closest to the master socket, but if i do this I have no wireless card in my PC so cannot connect, The obvious option is to get a wireless card but that will cost money. As will buying the power lines.
Any suggestions? I guess plugging the hub in downstairs and trying to connect to something is the best option.
    Any advice please?

  • LCD monitor suggestions?

I hope I'm not too off-topic. I need a bit more monitor 'real estate' but I really don't have much in the way of resources at the moment. Does anyone have any suggestions/caveats about displays. (note: I'm not using HD) but another 17-20'' would really facilitate my FCP/Motion efforts.

  • MacPro- monitor suggestion

hello, i just got my new macpro and want to hook up my 2 older dell monitors with dual-link DVI connections. they work fine so i'd rather not get new monitors if possible. the question is since the macpro comes with 1 dual-link DVI and 2 Mini DisplayPort outputs. what is the best way to set up these monitors, given i have only 1 dual-link DVI port? if i get an adapter will it be as good as going with 2 new monitors that have mini-display ports? what set up do others have? thanks much.

    Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter
VGA monitors are analog. The image quality is much better on a DVI or Mini DisplayPort monitor. A decent Samsung 24" with DVI will cost aroud $250 at most. There are Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapters available too.
