The long SMS message function is managed for the carrier, not for the BlackBerry device, call your carrier Customer Center and ask why

  • Is there a way to have a continious flowing text box with a limit of 26 characters per line?

    I am trying to make an interactive pdf form or an indesign form for a classified section in a newspaper. We use a 26 character limit per line for pricing reasons. What I need is for a text box or field to flow continuously yet limit each line to 26 characters. Right now we have an interactive pdf form that has numerous lines that limit 26 characters per line but they do not flow so you would have to tab or cut a word short in order to go to the next line, the other problem with this is you can't copy and paste a full classified ad since it cuts it off at 26 characters. Any input on how I can achieve the the above question would be greatly appreciated.

    There is a way in Acrobat to have text flow from one form field to another form field while entering the text. You can set your character limit per form field, and have as many fields as needed. But you cannot copy text and paste into the form field and have text flow throughout.
    Here is a link that describes how to set the properties within Acrobat.

  • Do Emoji (emoticons) count as extra characters in SMS?

    If I use Emoticons in my SMS messages, how does that count toward the 160 character limit?
    Do they count as a normal character or do they "cost" extra?
    Thanks,
    Ryan
    ps. SMS app really needs a character counter!!

    One SMS message can hold a "payload" of 140 octets (bytes). When using 7-bit characters (the default SMS alphabet, as the terms goes), a single message can have 160 characters. When using 16-bit Unicode characters, a single message can have 70 characters.
    Most phones automatically break long text messages and in reality sends multiple SMSs when required.
    Most phones when reciving multipe SMSs, reassemble them automatically so that the recipient sees one long message.
    When phones show emoticons as graphic symbols, the SMS has contained multiple characters ( usually two or three, such as ';' followed by '-' which is followed by ')' ) and the messaging software on the phone has replaced it with the graphic. Like this:
    Same, if you use a messaging application that allows you to enter/select graphic emoticons, the software converts the graphic to text for sending.

  • Any app counting characters in SMS?

    Hi,
    I use SMS in French most of the time.
    Some characters with accents are outside the official gsm 03.38 encoding specifications (circumflexes and cedillas) and are then 2-byte encoded.
    Any app that tells you how many characters are left in the SMS and how many SMS you will send?
    I have seen some apps doing this but not natively, all copy the text to then be pasted manually in the iPhone SMS application.
    Do you know of any NATIVE SMS application doing such a thing? (Not an app sending free SMS, I need to use the built-in sms mechanism)
    Thanks for any help.

    While most iPhone users might not care how many text messages they send, I'm sure some of their friends do care. I have yet to meet the maximum number of texts on my plan simply because I have only three friends with unlimited SMS plans - and know of friends who've had to turn texting off as an option on their phones because they couldn't afford to receive so many texts.
    If it's a feature that's been included on cell phones on different continents before, it's hardly ludicrous to expect what is supposed to be a "smartphone" to carry out the same basic functions as before.

  • XLST-mapping get's cut off after 4440 characters per tag

    Hi there,
    I currently have a problem with a XSLT-mapping in SAP PI: The mapping itself is working fine and correct. It is transforming the input-xml and the creates a well-formed xml-output.
    But I have a problem when a xml-tag is having more than 4440 characters in it. In this case the XML-output just gets cut off, eaven there are plenty more chararcters left. Is there any way that this xml-tag still get's created?
    regards

  • Nokia 6300 problem sms

    when im writing sms it shows  1000 characters when i  get to 890 it shows second messege being writed, shouldnt it be 160 characters per sms, what can i do, help

    The phone can cope with a message up to 100 characters, but the SMS system allows for much less so the message is broken down and sent as separate messsages to be reassembled into one complete message by the receiving phone.
    The total characters per message sent over the network is typically 160 characters, but may be less if you have the full character support switched on (which you may need depending which language you are writing). I don't have a 6300 to hand, but I thing you go:
    Menu>Messaging>Message settings>Text message>Character encoding and select "reduced support".

  • Using unicode in sms sending :)plz. urgent reply is needed.

    when i want to send a sms of string of unicode. is it necessary to encode it in UTF8 or UTF16 ???
    when i encode it then the length of the string comes larger.
    can i send sms as a string of unicode without changing its length????
    like this:
    String str="\u270F";
    // now str's length is 1
    str = new String(str.getBytes("UTF16"));
    //now str's length is 4!!!!!!!!
    plz. urgent reply is needed.
    best regards
    tanvir

    By default SMS has it's own text encoding and therefore you cannot use UTF8 nor UTF16. There is a special UCS2 encoding, alowing for 70 unicode characters to be send (per sms). See: http://www.dreamfabric.com/sms/

  • How to change font size for SMS at PC suite

    Hello,
    I would like to read and write SMS at the PC and receive and send them via PC suite. It works.
    But how can I change the font type and font size of an SMS within the PC suite.
    I have problems to recognize Arab characters in SMS because the characters are so small and the font type is squiggly.
    Thanks

    If there are really only a few sites that you have problems with, just go to the site, and click the Command key along with the plus key.    This will temporarily increase the size of the type.
    Command and the minus(-)  key makes type smaller.  These commands will work on a per site basis.

  • Send photo via sms

    Hi,
    I need a j2me app. which takes photo from camera phone ( about 2-3kb) and send this photo to other phone via sms ( maybe with 10-20 sms ). is it possible? one photo is 2000-3000 byte and one sms can transfer 160 char. ?

    Yes it could be done. But who would want to send a 3K picture and pay about 4 to 8 euros for it?
    Also: 160 characters are not 160 bytes. With the most effective encoding, it will give you about 140 bytes per sms. You'll also need some header info to be able to put the image together again.

  • IM vs. SMS

    Geez, I hope this is not a stupid question but I was reading one post that said this new update in June will include IM. Is that different from what the phone has now i.e. SMS?

    There are actually many differences between the two technologies, and some similarities or crossovers from one to another.
    The SMS cellular messaging protocol is limited typically to roughly 120 characters per message on a GSM network, and requires carrier switching services to send. Most plans allow for a limited number of free messages, then charge 5¢ or more for subsequent simplex transmissions. A 'conversation' necessarily consists of a message and a response, so that's effectively a 10¢ or higher penalty for each conversation. IM sessions are not typically subject to per message, per use or periodic fees.
    Chat or instant messaging services are not typically so constrained, can involve multiple users in a chat session, and allow you to interact with non-cellular users through AIM, .Mac, GTalk, MSN, ICQ, Jabber, Live Journal, Yahoo and other services.
    You can additionally send an SMS message through a computer based messaging plugin or using an electronic mail account, but again, this requires carrier switching.
    These services are complementary in nature, but IM is generally considered the most powerful, least expensive and fastest means of interactive communication other than voice.

  • Add more characters to text? ( n95 )

    Hi
    Maybe a daft question i know but is it possible to increase the number of characters per txt on the n95 looked through manual maybe i missed something? ).At present i only have 160 which is a piddly amount compared to other phones i've used or seen ( up to 800 )
    Many thanks
    Neil

    160 is the maximum allowed in any one message on all phones. It's a limitation of SMS, not the phone.
    If you carry on typing the phone will allow you to go past 160 characters and will send it as multiple messages which are re-combined on the receivers phone. All modern phones from all manufactures handle SMS messages in this way.
    If for some reason your phone isn't allowing you to go beyond 160 characters then it could be a limitation of your sim card or caused by network branding on a phone.

  • SMS layout/format before update

    Hi, i bought my blackberry yestarday and installed the updates that came with the cd -the v5.0 version or something like that- and before the update the way i saw the SMS was different than how it is now. Now, when i'm writing a SMS it looks exactly the same way as if i was writing a BlackBerry Messenger message. I want the layout of the SMS to be as it was before i installed the update. Does anyone know how to do such thing? I don't like the 'writing format' the BB Messenger has and i definetly don't want it to be the same in the SMS format. I'm freacking out, please help me!

    Hi, i'm experiencing the same issue. I owned a Nextel 8350i & recently upgraded to a Sprint Bold 9650. On my 8350i, which was running on software 4.5 & used the old SMS/MMS texting format. My Bold operates on 5.0 & I hate that the messages are in an instant message format. I also hate the fact that you are now limited to 160 characters per text. What's up with that??!! I want to use the old format. I've dug around in options to see if I could change it but have been unable to. I have spoken to Sprint tech on the phone & I was told that its a change that was made in the software and cannot be changed unless you go back to older software. I even tried to find a download of device software 4.5 so that I could go back to that but It seems impossible to find. If there's anybody out there who has a link to a download of the device software 4.5, please post it. To me, this should have been an optional change. There should be an option to use the old SMS/MMS style text messaging or to use the new instant message style. If there are any RIM reps out there reading over these questions, then hear me loud & clear, this needs to be changed with the next software update!!!!!!!!!! Give the users an option with the next software. If there is something I'm missing & I can change it back to the old SMS/MMS format without having to use an older software version please let me!

  • Is there a way to set a limit on the number of characters each cell will hold in numbers?

    Hi there, I'm creating a CSV file via Numbers and would like to set a limit to the number of characters a cell will hold in numbers. This way, when I copy text from my source, and paste it into the numbers cell, the text will be cut off at the character limit I've placed for that cell.
    Specifically, I would like my character limit per cell in a column on a new spreadsheet to be 100 characters. I have text to copy & paste into roughly 10 different cells and I'd like it to all be 100 characters.
    I am using Numbers version 9 of iWork and 10.7.5 OS.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Thank you t quinn for your reply as I do really appreciate the help.
    I don't quite understand what your suggestion was and before I try to figure it out and play around with numbers, I thought I should clarify further. When i wrote I want to paste the content into the cell and have it limited to 100 characters I was mis-spoken. I actually have all the content already in the columns in a spreadsheet and would now like to just limit some of the columns to hold only 100 characters in a cell so that when its a CSV file it will be accepted to the program I'm trying to upload it to.
    SO does that change the way you can answer my question?
    Is there a way to just limit the content currently in a spreadsheet to 100 characters per cell?
    Kindly

  • How do I limit the number of characters allowed in an input form and then how do I limit the number of lines?

    I'm selling Classified Advertising in a newspaper and I want my visitor to be able to enter their own ads.
    They need to be limited to 30 characters/line with a limit of 4 lines.  (120 characters total).
    How can I use html or css to limit the input to 30 characters per line and then limit them to 4 lines?
    Is that possible?
    Thanks so much.
    Dale

    I would place 4 text fields and use the maxlength attribute. Setting maxlength="30" will stop any more than 30 characters from being entered into any given text field...
    <p>
      <label for="textfield">Line 1:</label>
      <input type="text" name="textfield" id="textfield" maxlength="30">
      <br>
    <label for="textfield2">Line 2:</label>
      <input type="text" name="textfield2" id="textfield2" maxlength="30">
      <br>
    <label for="textfield3">Line 3:</label>
      <input type="text" name="textfield3" id="textfield3" maxlength="30">
      <br>
    <label for="textfield4">Line 4:</label>
      <input type="text" name="textfield4" id="textfield4" maxlength="30">
    </p>

  • Any ideas on getting facebook 'like' links working in SMS and MMS?  A few issues Apple might fix please?

    Hi,
    I work in a Mobile Marketing company where clients use our bulk SMS / MMS messaging service in Australia.  A few things I've noticed where iPhones are falling short in comparison to the competition in RECEIVING messages (and I hope are fixed because I'm an apple fan) - a few inconsistencies:
    * Facebook links eg  "Like us at http://m.facebook.com/example"... Last night the link worked on my iphone when I sent it from our platform to my handset.  (4s Firmware 3.4.03, Version 6.1.3, Telstra)  It took me to the page on safari, and even earlier this morning it did - yet now it won't (and I haven't made any changes).  I have tried restarting, (soft and firm reboot) as well as ensuring I'm logged in - or out on another page.   The link does work on computer as well as on my collegues (4s 6.1.3, Firmware 3.4.03  Vodafone au 14.1) and it IS working there - but not sure for how long (considering it was working on mine earlier too)   FYI It also works on 9 differnt android versions of handsets in the office here too.
    * occasionally this happens with shortened links too (like a shortened google map link).  There seems to be no pattern to the issue.
    * When clients send MMS through our platform, the delivery on the iPhones is inconsistent.  eg, the client can send WMV / GIF / JPG with a Title, Header and Footer message.  The artrwork should fall in the middle of the header and footer.  However another inconsitency - sometimes it does, and sometimes it doesn't.  I can't see any pattern of it as the layout changes intermittently (from minute to minute).    This particular issue is limited to  iPhones on software 6 versions.
    * In a message, when the LAST WORD in SMS / MMS  is a 'link; - like web address or phone number to call, OCCASIONALLY it does not come up as a link (therefore recipient is unlikely to type it out to get to it).  Again, no pattern, just 'sometimes' does this happen.  Have tried putting a space after it, that doesn't work.  Only if another word is put after it will it always work.
    * Got feedback yesterday that NO LINKS in message (landlines, mobiles, web address) were working on iphone 5.  Not sure if this is a constant or another inconsistent link?
    Anyway, I'd really like our clients to be able to use a "like us on facebook" link in their messaging with success... could Apple please look into solving these inconsistencies?
    Hoping you can help.

    You are not addressing Apple here. We are users like yourself.
    The only thing I could think of in regards to this issue since it has worked on some occassions and not others is what if you deleted cookies and history from Safari. Does that make it work again? While SMS/MMS are a carrier function, I also know that some texts from different phones to the iPhone can produce strange results if the other device is using some type of font that is not supported by the iPhone. If you search the forum, you might find something related to that if you search for "strange characters in SMS" or something similar.
    When you produce these bulk SMS, do you write just the link, or do you write the HTML code in the SMS?
