701: dust between display and glass

Hi there,
I have a beautiful Nokia 701 that I bought in March. I noticed that dust is getting into it, between the touchscreen glass and the display... it's really annoying to have a clearblack display or whatever it's called and see dust in between...
Could Nokia just put some sealant at the glass edge to prevent dust to come across? I had to dismantle my old 5800 and there was actually a thin ring made of some silicon rubber (or it was glue) at the edge, between touchscreen and display... and it stayed dust-free for three years... why can't a 0,01 cent rubber ring be added to a 701 shocks me!
Back to dust in my 701... Is there a way I can get rid of it?
Thanks!
m

I lost faith and decided to keep it as is. Also I'm considering dumping my 701's warranty and trying to do something on my own. Despite Nokia Care is run by kind and competent guys, I just can't get the reason why a NEW phone must undergo their intervention that often.
I'm sorry but I have to acknowledge POOR CONSTRUCITVE QUALITY, terrible organization in releasing firmware variants (701 has, only for 112.010.1404 sw version, 285 variants... a nightmare to roll-out).
I'll look for some how-to guide over the internet to learn to dismantle my 701 without damaging it, and then I will stick some sealant at the edge of my phone's display. Otherwise, I'll just keep it as is with all the dust until I find some other phone. Wouldn't be surprised if it's not another Nokia :-(

  • Dust between LCD and glass

Well, my 3rd ipod touch was a week 38. It was great until I noticed there were a few specks of dust underneath the glass, one of which seemed to create a bubble at certain angles. I went back to the 5th ave nyc store today and they were very cool about taking it back. The genius actually said "Yeah, there's no way you could've gotten dust in there".
I've been finding that the 5th Ave store is so much better in terms of customer service than the SoHo store, so I will be doing business with them from now on.
So just in case anyone has wondered about this, the Apple store should give your an easy exchange for dust lodged underneath the glass.
And for the record, the dust-lodged ipod was a week 38 with corinne bailey rae on the cover. My replacement is also a week 38 but with Macy Grey on the cover. I'll see how it works out when I get home. I hope the 4th time is a charm!

It's usually only visible from up close, or under very bright lighting conditions. My replacement had just one speck of dust under the glass, and I figure I'm done with constantly exchanging my ipods.
If you really want to ruin things for yourself, take a flashlight up to the screen and look for any dust specks that you can't wipe away. You'll notice that they might be lodged underneath the glass. I discovered the dust when I was trying to clear all of the dust off before applying an invisible shield and discovered that a few specks couldn't be wiped away.
But I really would say, if you don't notice it now, don't look for it. You'll just make yourself evermore pickier. I wish I'd never done so myself.

  • Satellite P - Dust grain between display and front

    Hello.
After some weeks suddently i have a dust grain between display and front glas.
how can it get there and I must therefore send in the notebook to service?
Greetings from germany and sorry about my bad english.

    Hi
I think its difficult to say something about this but I think in this case you can do nothing. The only chance is contacting an authorized service provider because the technicians can disassemble the notebook and check this case. If you disassemble the notebook yourself you will loose the warranty so I wouldnt do this
If you dont know where is the nearest ASP you can search here:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Find an authorized service provider
Just contact the technicians. You will see that its interesting to talk with them a little bit and they are friendly. ;)

  • PLMD_AUDIT - Toggle between Display and Change - Important!!

    Hello all,
    I've a problem when I work on PLMD_AUDIT.
    Pre-requisite for replicating the issue.
1> Change the settings in PLMD_AUDIT (a face like icon) to Display mode
When I run PLMD_AUDIT for an Audit with Action, it displays me the "Grouping" field and the "Involved Persons" tab values correctly.
But when I toggle from Display to Change, the value in "Grouping" and the "Involved Persons" tab vanishes.
Can you please check in your system and let me know if you also face this issue?
    Thank you in advance,
    Vaishnavi

    Hello Keerthi,
    Thanks for your reply.
Please follow the below mentioned steps.
    1) Change your time zone to a different time zone other than the created time zone of the action.
say if action has been created in London time zone, change system zone to some other than London.
    2) Change the Settings in PLMD_AUDIT tcode (face like icon) to Display
    3) Open any audit WITH ACTION.
    4) When you double click on Action inside the audit, the action will be opened in Display mode.
    5) Now toggle between Display and Change.
    6) Kindly check if the values in the "Grouping field" and BUPA roles in "Involved Persons" tab are present now after toggling?
Please let me know at the earliest.
Your assistance is highly appreciated in this regard.
    Thanks in advance,
    Vaishnavi

    Hi chuck72352,
after you have sorted your data, you can use the InRange Function. Combined with a "search 1D Array" you'll get the range you really want.

  • A slight gap between display and the aluminium housing

I just bought an iMac 2 months ago. Recently, while dusting off the display, I noticed a slight opening (about 2mm) between the display and the housing on the top side of my iMac. I worry that dust might accumulate inside the display over time.
Has anyone seen something similar on their iMac? Could this be a defect?
    Regards.

Yeah, it's a defect alright. Just over the weekend, a yellow vertical line appeared towards the middle of my screen. I think this might be permanent, and somehow related to the slight opening on my iMac.
Called Apple Support. Was hoping they would exchange the entire machine for me, but no such luck

  • Trash or Dust, between led and display glass

Hi, theres come kind of dust or trash (not secure) between the led screen and the display glass, i did almost everything to remove it, but i cant do it. What should I do?
    In advance, Thanks.

If the dust or trash is between the led and the glass the only thing you can do is take it to apple.

  • How to remove the dust between Lcd and Front glass (Early2009)

I just bought the new Imac less than 1 month
then I found the dust over there
---Should I go to the apple store????

You can quite easily remove the glass front, it's only held on with magnets.
Use either a sucker, like that of a car sat nav or mobile phone holder, or if you dont have that, just get a bit of parcel tape and stick it firmly in the bottom lower corner and gently pull and the glass comes straight out no problems, peel the tape off, doesnt leave a residue then when you've done cleaning offer the glass back upto the frame and the magnets will grab it back into place.

  • IPhone 5 - gap between display and metal frame

Hello, I have an iPhone 5 black and I found out that on top between metal frame and display is a gap where I can fit a paper. Is it okay? What should I do?

Have the same issue & plan to send to Apple to replace/repair. Was wondering if you know by chance how long this fix will take?
(Tried to reopen my support case to ask Apple directly but it keeps failing to open)
    Thanks.

  • Dust between backlight and screen

After talking to a friend who had similar issues it turns out that what I thought were dead pixels are in fact tiny patches of dust/debris between the backlight and the screen. How they suddenly appeared (particularly a new one recently in the centre of the screen) is a mystery, but I definitely believe the diagnosis to be correct - the little dots are grey not black, and they are not square and well defined in the way dead pixels are.
I know that replacing a screen/backlight in a PowerBook is exceptionally difficult, but as in this case nothing would actually need to be removed or replaced, would it be possible to separate the two to clean away this dust?

    Hi guys,
That sounds about right. If they look similar to dead pixels but more grey and ill-defined then it seems likely you've got the same problem.
My final solution was... to give up sell the PowerBook to my dad. Bought a new MacBook instead. Shame, because I was hoping to get a bit more use out of it before I upgraded, but there you go.

  • ThinkPad S440 dust between touch and screen

About a month ago I've purchased an S440, while the machine works great lately I've been noticing dust specs under the touchscreen, and it's getting worse.
Since I need the computer to work I can't afford to send it to warranty and be without it.
So my question is the only way to clean the dust is to replace the screen or is there any non warranty voiding way to do it?
Btw: is there any service center in Portugal? I haven't found any only a support number.

  • Dual display and VRAM usage.

Hi, back in the days I wanted a 12" iBook but couldn't afford one, last autumn thought I decided to get a Macbook Pro, the update came and...
    .. it had 128MB vram.
I want to use dual screen and maybe even occasional gaming, I couldn't decide if this where sufficient for my needs or not so I waited for the june update.
The mid-07 MBP arrived and, it had 128MB vram AGAIN!
Why oh why Apple? Oh, don't answer that, it's because you're in bed with Intel and want to force feed us useless highest end CPUs. But all I care for is the VRAM, why do I have to pay a ****-of-a-lot for a 1/11th faster CPU?
Anyway, I tried to decide if I should "bit the sour Apple" and get the mid modell or just get the low one because that one is much more price worthy. A few days ago I ordered the low end one.
But then I've seen on barefeats that he says that a 30" ACD display would use 128MB vram of the 256MB vram modell, are vram always splitted between displays in OS X?
You see, if the extra 20" 1680x1050 display only use 1680x1050x(3 or 4) bytes that is ok, maybe even if it's double buffered (is it?), because then I will probably have like 100MB vram left for all my windows and for desktop usage that is probably ok. But if the vram is shared between displays and my 20" which I will use most only get 64MB vram that's quite low.
I know I can turn of the sleeping capabilities of the MBP and shut the lid and only use one screen but that's a quite lame solution.
I hate how Apple does this, and it seems to worry a lot of people. Some get the more expensive modell and hate that they had to do it, some doesn't, and some don't buy a machine at all .. I would probably have stayed in the last crowd.
256MB vram can't have cost them many tens of dollars, why not have that in all modells? Why is the middle one even needed? Just make 2.4GHz CPU and option in that case.
Anyway, does anyone know how much vram my screen will have available? Will 128MB work for me with all the regular desktop apps I will have running? Or should I really go with the 256MB one? The tricky part is that my MBP might be shipped today or similair.
I've called Apple support three times but noone of them knows how this works so they aren't for much help.
(Dell vostro 1500 sells here in Sweden for less than half the price of the mid MBP and comes way more balanced, you can even get a 1680x1050 screen. Sure it has 2.0GHz CPUs or whatever but I don't care about that. Where is the old "omg MHz myth"-Apple? Please understand CPU speed isn't everything. Instead of leading the MHz myth fight it ;D, start calling the CPUs T7300 and so on aswell ;D)

Hi Johan, actually the VRAM used by OS X is likely to be quite a bit more than just your screen resolution multiplied by 3 or 4, since each open window is composited offscreen for the shadow effects and for things like zooming (Ctrl-Mousewheel) and the "Genie effect".
I'm pretty sure the total VRAM isn't divided in half for each of the two displays though, as it will be allocated from the video driver on an as-needed basis. In practice, with both displays active and a few windows open, you should still have maybe 80-90% of your VRAM available for applications.
Games and other VRAM-heavy applications are a special case as these will typically use as much VRAM as you can give them, and swap out to system RAM via the PCI-X bus when they need more (and unlike swapping to disk, swapping into VRAM from system RAM is still pretty fast).
