713x BDA Analog Capture defaults to SVideo?

I am having trouble using the MSI TV@nywhere Plus to stream live video from the composite input to a provider like ustream.tv.
Using a free version of webcamxp/webcam7, I am able to view/stream video ONLY when I select '713x BDA Analog Capture', then 'Video Input > Composite'.  Some other clients (such as the ustream.tv producer client), there is only an option to select '713x BDA Analog Capture', which does broadcast (i can see the static being broadcast), but not from the right input port.  Unfortunately, I am not able to select the 'composite' video input source, which I think is the problem.
Is there a way to change default the video input for this card?  Is there another way to work around this?
I have tried connecting the camera (BNC output) to the TV@nywhere card differently, but found it only worked using: BNC -> RCA -> composite cable -> svideo port on the TV@nywhere card.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks,
Matt.

Have you tried BNC female to f male adapter using the antenna/cable in? I didn't have any luck finding BNC female to male PAL, native connector for the cable in is male PAL (card socket is female PAL) but PAL is hard to find in US since it's mostly used in Europe.
I don't know if this type of input would work but the adapter is cheap enough to give it a try.

If WebTV is installed and running, pause the "WebTV Video Data Service" in the taskbar by right-clicking its icon and selecting "Pause Service"...

  • Interlacing methodology:  analog capture, export AVI, DVD authoring?

My question concerns when to interlace and/or deinterlace a video?
The original medium is VHS tape.
The final products will be VHS tape (interlaced) and DVD (progressive).
    1. I do an analog capture of a VHS Tape with a Matrox capture card. I assume the new AVI file is interlaced because the tape was interlaced. But maybe I am incorrect.
2A. For the final VHS product, when I export the video to an AVI file, do I need to turn interlacing on or do I need to use the progressive scan option? (If I use the interlacing option, am I doing a double interlace of the video? If I use the progressive scan option, am I preserving the already interlaced video?)
2B. For the final DVD product, when I export the video to an AVI file, do I need to A) use the interlacing option, use the progressive scan option, or C) deinterlace at this point?
3A. For the final VHS product, I merely play the newly exported AVI, and the interlaced video in analog form is outputted from the Matrox capture card and recorded by the VCR. Is that it?
3B. For the final DVD product, I use TMPGEnc (Tsunami MPEG Encoder) to create MPGs prior to authoring the DVD. Do I need to use interlacing or progressive scan options here? See step 2B for previous options performed.
    Thank you for your expertise,
    John

The source media is interlaced. Leave it that way for all exports.

  • Analog capture device ?

I need to buy a analog capture device, can anyone recommend one that works well with Adobe premiere elements

If you mean an A-D "bridge," then I'll add a few:
The ADS Pyro gets a lot of high marks, and many here, plus on Muvipix use it. IIRC, the price is about US$150. You might want to survey this forum and also Muvipix for comments on this device.
Canopus offers at least two: the 110 & 300 versions. Were I buying, I'd probably opt for the 300, but it is more expensive. I like the TimeBase correction available. The 100 is about the same price as the ADS unit.
I happen to use a Turtle Beach caputer card and it works well. If I did not already own it, then the Canopus 300 would get my vote.
    Good luck,

  • No video on analog capture

Well I am trying to figure out why I get no video in my FCP version 6.0.5 Log and Capture window. I am running analog out of a video camera into my Sony DSR-11.....
I followed this advice from a previous post....
*Take the analog outputs of the VHS (S-Video if you have it) and plug it into the DSR-11 analog inputs.*
*On the front panel of the DSR-11 switch the input to either Video or S-Video depending on if you are using composite or S-Video output from your VHS.*
*In FCP, open Log and Capture, and under the Capture Settings Tab, select non-controllable device.*
*Play the VHS and press Capture Now.*
I still have no communication/video in the Log and Capture window. The strange thing is that I-Movie recognizes the DSR-11, and video is also recognized in Quicktime...
Tried trashing preferences.... no go .....so now I am stumped.....I could capture in another program but am determined to figure this out.....
    Thanks
    Kirk

Thanks so much for your help Jim... Tried all the usual subjects to no avail. Hopefully I will not have to capture analog again soon.
So the question is......since I am able to capture in I-Movie and Quicktime and not FCP (wish I knew why....but I have not quit looking into yet) then which program could I use to capture the footage, and then what format should I convert to for editing in FCP. What I am actually doing is capturing footage from a VCR for my daughters wedding reception video so I am not really concerned about quality loss, as there is not much quality to begin with. I will be combining the video clips with TIFF photos to make the video. I think the quicktime uses H.264 and I - Movie seems like the clips are DV/DVCPRO - NTSC.
As I have read, H.264 is not a FCP editing format, and I am not sure if DV/DVCPRO is ok to use or if I should convert it.

  • Image Capture Default Scan Resolution

I have researched how to change the default scan resolution in Image Capture. Everything I have found thus far either doesn't work or references a preference file that does not seem to exist on my machine. Current OS  is 10.5.8. I had the plist file (com.apple.ImageCaptureApp.plist) open in BBEdit and noticed that when I Quit the application "Image Capture" the setting for ICScannerPresScanResulation switched from 300 to 150 immediately.

OK, look for some of these files...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.Image_Capture.XXXXXXXXX X.plist
Also, it seems that some Scanners store the Default Rez in them, might see if setting that is an option for yours.

  • Change Data Capture (CDC) now capturing default values

    Hi,
I am using SQL Server 2012 and to me a part of data captured by CDC is not making sense.
I have a table called 'Schema.Table1', and I enabled CDC on it by running 'sys.sp_cdc_enable_table'. I see that a table called 'cdc.Schema_Table1_CT' got created which now gets an entry when ever I Insert, Update or delete a record in the original table.
Till this point every thing works fine.
My original Table has a NOT NULL INT column called 'AuditTrackerUserID' with a default value of 1996. My application does not provides a value for this column, but because the column itself has a default value, records get inserted without error.
When I try to execute the following Query I see multiple records with __$operation of 3 and 1.
SELECT * from cdc.Schema_Table1_CT where AuditTrackerUserID IS NULL
My expectation is that I should not ever see any record returned by this query because AuditTrackerUserID is a not null column, but I do.
Can anyone please explain this behavior>

  • Changing Screen Capture Default Format

I'm trying to change the default format of the screen capture created by shift-command-4 from PDF to PNG. I set the string in com.apple.screencapture to png, but it doesn't seem to be "sticking". Any ideas?

Maybe I should specify what I'm looking for, sorry. In another experiment in customization, when I tried to rename my Trash, I found that the new name I put in the Property List wouldn't "stick" unless I executed "killall Dock" in the Terminal to restart the dock.
I'm trying to find out what I should restart to have my screencapture format change "stick". Unless maybe that is totally off track?!

  • Screen Capture default format in Tiger OS

    Dear Mac OS Fellows:
In Tiger OS, the default file format for screen capture is "PNG." I want to change it to "PDF"!
I found the command tips, never worked for me, on the net=>
    defaults write com.apple.screencapture type pdf
    killall -HUP SystemUIServer
I tried those 2 commands. The default format is stil set to "PNG."
    Help please!
    Max NY

    Max--
The reason why I try to capture screens with "PDF"
export, is that I want to preserve the "vector"
    attribute of the type.
To no avail! After saving capture as a PDF, I zoom in
400% to check on the edge of the type. Disappointing
    enough! All become pixelated!
Hmm. This may not be possible. The way I understand it, the screen is a bitmap, rendered by the OS. So, yes you can get a PDF of the screen, but it's just a bitmap in a PDF. That would be the same for any kind of application's windows where the text was drawn on screen, like a dialog box.
The only standard tool I know of is the "Web Capture"
    in Acrobat Pro. v.7.
Well, if you're interested in web pages, you can always just use "Print," but instead of printing, save your web page to a PDF from the print dialog. But, since you're "printing," you may find the printout isn't exactly like the web page. Especially if they use a different style sheet for print media.
You can use this same trick with other applications, too, as long as they can print (and as long as they don't "rasterize," i.e., make bitmaps of, the type in their documents before they send them to the printer).
I've never heard of a tool that could do what you want with any window. I think one would have to intercept the commands going to the graphics system before they actually get rendered for the screen, and I'm not sure that's possible.

  • Setting Image Capture defaults.

I use Image Capture to do all my scanning. In Snow Leopard, I had the default file type set to PDF and the default file location set to desktop. When I first used image capture in Mountain Lion, the default file type was JPEG and the default file location was the picture folder. I changed the defaults to match what I had in Snow Leopard. However, each time I open Image Capture, The default file type stays on PDF but the default file location reverts to the picture folder. Anyone know how to keep the default file location set to desktop?

    Do a backup.
    Quit the application.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.Image_Capture.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart the computer, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

  • Analog capture into DV format. Why such small files?  Why the poor quality?

I am capturing 8mm video cassettes with an "ADVC 3000" converter, using an S-Video into the converter and then via FireWire into my PowerMac G5.
All is almost going well, but the files seem to take up so little space on my Hard Drive. That's a good thing, but I'm wondering if it's recording into Digital Video or not since the files seem so small. Smaller than normal for DV at least, or maybe I'm just paranoid.
In the scratch files, when I press Command-I for information, the Codecs on the QuickTime files are DV/DVCPRO-NTSC, Interger (Big Endian), Timecode.
So I'm guessing they are DV files even though they look like crap.
My question is this though. When I put these old analog tapes on iDVD, burn it, and put it in my DVD player, the quality of my video looks pretty crappy on my hi-def television. But when I watch them on my computer in a tiny window (the tinier the better), the video looks great. A large window, or my Television, gives a bad picture. My theory is that it's my hi-def television and computer monitor, and that on an old Analog TV set, the videos would look much sharper.
Should I play 8 mm analog video, converted to DV in Final Cut Pro, on an older Analog T.V. set for best viewing results?
Anyone have any comments to share on the science of this?

    Yoshiman,
Forgive me if you did know this, the TBC is a Time Base Corrector. (I am pretty sure corrector is right). Anyway, the 8mm has time code striped on it with the image information. If the playback device is not able to read the time code, the picture quality suffers. (remember tracking adjustments?).
The TBC will intercept the time code coming from the tape and provide accurate, consistent time code to the system. I use one from DataVideo, and have been happy with it whenever I have to work with old tapes. If you have a lot of tapes to capture, you might look into one.
My two disclaimers: this is a very general explanation, I simply don't know the physics of what's going on, and secondly I am not a power user of FCS, but have gotten so much from this forum I am trying to give a little back. Take what I bring to the table with that in mind - I'm proficient, but not an expert.

  • FCE and QT PRO Analog Capture Audio sync problems

I have had major problems importing analog content into a DV quicktime movie and having the audio match.
First example: using a sony digital 8 camera with old hi-8 tapes (the camera does the analog to digital conversion) I open final cut express HD capture now or new movie recording in QT pro, and go for the whole tape or tv show. beginning is usually ok, but if i stop and start the camera, fast forward through commercials while capturing, or let the source end before i stop the capture It seems the audio becomes un-synced. usually lags by 1 sec or so, but sometimes the audio comes early by a few frames. sometimes progressivly getting worse later in the capture, sometimes the whole thing is off by the same amount. If i capture between camera starts and stops i have no problems.
Second example: using a pyro AV firewire analog converter, I get the same behavior when trying to capture in Final cut Express HD and QT pro.
My guess is that since there is no timecode on the analog source that somehow messes things up, but why do these programs shift the audio on me?

Most likely cause is your photographer changed the audio rate from 44.1k or 48k to something else.
Aside from that, no, it's highly unlikely it is the software. It's easy to blame FCP for this stuff, and we love to do it, but the capture from DV over FW is a complete clone of a digital file, nothing is being changed by FCP or QT during the process, unless your settings have been tweaked and that's a user decision.
If simply sliding the audio back into sync is not an option, dub the tapes to another DV deck via FW (producing a clone, not a generational loss) and capture form the dubs. You can experiment with a short take or two.
If the audio sync issue persists, it's the original footage, not FCP.

  • Analog Capture Devices

    Hi
I have this USB Analog / DV capture device called "USB instant VCD".
    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=41536 7&Tab=0&NoMapp=0
I was using it on a pc. Plugged it into the Mac and tried to install drivers from the disk but kept getting "error opening movie"
but it was an exe file not a movie.
Im trying to hook up the VCR to the mac to burn sometapes to disk.
why wont it recognise the device? I thought an exe file should self open when you click it?
    am I missing something?
    best, M/
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

USB transfers data in packets, in bursts of information. For video work, you want the constant stream of Firewire.
FCP will not work with USB cameras or capture devices. It will work with USB hard drives, but it is not recommended.
Take up the other matter with ADS. Perhaps there is a Mac version of their software on their website. Either way, it's not going to interface directly with FCP, but maybe you can get the files on your drive and then import into FCP.

  • Analog capture to iMovie

Preface: I'm a nubie to video, and brand new to Mac...
-> I would like to capture about 20 old VHS home videos and edit them in iMovie.
-> I'm not terribly concerned about the quality, but want to get something decent to stream to my TV with my appleTV.
-> I've been reading and searching online for nearly 2 hours now and it seems the ADVC110 will do what I want, but it's too expensive.
-> The Pinacle Video Capture looks like a decent option, but converts to MP4 and sends the video directly to iTunes. I assume I can export from iTunes and import to iMove, but it seems like I'll loose quality.
-> There are many $50ish options for the PC to capture video via usb. It seems like there must be something similar for the Mac.
-> Any advice is welcome. Thanks!

hey there PortlandSteve & welcome to Discussions.
you might be able to find an older Sony, JVC or Panasonic Mini DV cam w/ analog in(pass-through)on eBay or from a local Pawn shop. i found a Sony Digital 8 cam w/ analog to digital(FireWire) conversion @ a local pawnshop a few months ago. you might even be able to find an older or a lightly used newer model of the Canopus device on eBay. but some device that will convert your analog video to digital as a DV stream & go into your Mac over FireWire is what you need for iMovie. check w/ your family & friends to see if they may have such a camera.
