720 480 sequence with square pixels for web delivery only

i'm on fcp 5.0.4. i've done some text qt exports and all seems to be fine, just want to double-check here. i am editing a sequence of stills. i want my seq settings to be 720x480 square pixels (you can choose 'custom' for this but it will change back to ntsc dv 3:2) because i like the 1.5 (720x480) pixel aspect ratio.
usually when i do 720x480 projects i'm working with dv/non-square footage and when i export for web use i'll choose the 640x480 setting so that it displays correctly on computers.
so the question is: any foreseeable trouble with my using 720x480 with square pixels seq settings if i want to export a qt at those same specs, and it's NOT going to broadcast, just web delivery?
i'm also using compressor - jpeg as part of seq settings unless someone can tell me there's a better compressor to use. (yes i know tiffs would be better but am using jpegs here.)
thanks.

Yes, there are foreseeable problems of applications assuming that your 720x480 video should have D1-sized pixels, as you've already experienced.
But once you finally end up with a 720x480 square pixel QuickTime movie that you are going to embed into a web page it should play properly.
Just make sure you host the video yourself so you can control its presentation. I bet if you upload it to Vimeo or YouTube those services would also reasonably assume that your video had non-square pixels.

  • How to edit 1440 x 1080 with SQUARE PIXELS?

Yes, I know it's weird. I would like to edit 1440 x 1080 with square pixels - HD with a standard aspect ratio. Unfortunately, any preset in 1440 x 1080 (HDV for example) is anamorphic and won't let me change it to square pixels. How do I create a project in 1440 x 1080 with square pixels?
I know I can alter the aspect ratio on export, but that would squish the images, so that won't do. I need to maintain square pixels from start to finish.

Ah, but it is not coming from a camera. I am creating it from images. In fact the main purpose of creating this video is
so the projectionist can adjust zoom and focus to bring the projector back to optimal "standard" settings while the audience has something funny to watch. Sure, I could create it in DV 4:3 format, but my images are already sized for 1080 height (I made a similar video for adjusting the zoom/focus for widescreen, which is really 4:3 with the top and bottom offscreen since the projector doesn't do 16:9). It is an older projector before HD standards and 16:9, but is higher resolution than the typical 4:3 formats. Another reason I want to use higher resolution is because I previously made the video at 720 x 480 resolution and it looks much better in HD.
So the question remains - how do I set custom resolution with square pixels?

  • How do I export in avi with square pixels?

At present I can only export in avi without my computer shutting down as I need more power. YouTube has become very unhelpful since Google took over and my widescreen exports don't load properly. There used to be a buttong to fix it but that's gone.
I also used to have a tic box for square pixels, how do I select this on CS5.5?

In the 'Video' tab of export settings scroll down until you find 'Aspect' field:

  • VERY slow performance with CS4 + Save for web

Note: I have done a search for similar issues but can find nothing regarding CS4 and this particular issue. I'm using a MacBook Pro 2.4Ghz w/4GB of RAM and resources are aplenty when the issue occurs.
    Issue
My problem is that under certain circumstances the 'save as web' function can take upto 3 minutes before the diaglog box appears. I've had this for some time but only in the last couple of days did I notice something that might be relevant:
    Works
    1. Open 3 large TIFF files @ 120mb approx (mine are 3 processed RAW files from Capture One / 4200x5600@300dpi)
    2. Create a new adjustment layer for each image
    3. Resize each image to 72dpi @ 800x600
    4. Run a SmartSharpen & flatten layers
    5. In each tab (for each image) do 'save as web'
    6. 'Save as web' dialog appears in expected time
    VERY slow

    7. Close this document (tab)
    8. Go to the next image (tab) and do 'save as web'
    9. Dialog box can take anything from 20secs to 3mins to appear.
    10. Close this document (tab)
    11. Go to the last image (tab) and do 'save as web'
    12. Dialog box can take anything from 20secs to 3mins to appear.
As I can easily go through this process for 50-60 images you can imagine that it can waste over an hour of my time waiting for Photoshop to get it's act together. I assume it's something todo with memory allocation, or that it's processing previews for all three tabs on the first 'save as web', but in any respect it's very annoying. There seems nothing obviously wrong resource-wise at the time of doing these.
Would be interested if anyone else has this issue!
    Thanks!

I had the same problem when I setup a new computer this week. Here's what I had installed:
    Photoshop CS5
    Suitcase Fusion 3
The problem was that when I was in Photoshop and used the "Save for Web" export screen, the dropdown menu for the different export types (JPG, PNG, GIF, etc) would take an extremely long time to update the preview of the graphic.
After a few days of research , I found that Suitcase was conflicting with Photoshop. Here's how you fix the problem (or at least here's what I did with my situation):
    Open Suitcase
Go to "Tools", click "Manage Plugins"
    Deactivate the Photoshop plugin
This fixed the problem immediately and now my Photoshop" Save For Web" feature is working really fast. Hope this helps anyone else in the same boat.

  • Export PDF as JPEG fails with Adobe Save for Web AI Error

    Hello,
We have an Illustrator Javascript program to convert a PDF file to a JPEG.  It does some adjustments along the way, but I have boiled the script down so it just opens the PDF file, then uses the export method to export it to a JPEG file.  The problem is the JPEG conversion is failing.  When I run with user interaction layer set to DONTDISPLAYALERTS, as I normally do, it silently fails and continues; I do not get an exception, and the export method does not have another way to return an error.  When I do display alerts, I get a dialog box saying:
Adobe Save for Web AI Error
Could not complete this operation. An unknown error has occurred.
    It looks like this:
What's weird is if I open the same PDF file in Illustrator and select File / Export it works fine.  I do get this error though if I select File / Save for Web & Devices.  I'm not sure why the export method would do a Save for Web though.
The code looks basically like this:
    // Set filename, docName, destFolder
    file = new File(filename);
    sourceDoc = app.open(file);
    var fileSpec = new File( destFolder + "/" + docName +"_LARGE");
    var exportOptions = new ExportOptionsJPEG();
    var type = ExportType.JPEG;
    app.activeDocument.exportFile( fileSpec, type );
For testing purposes, I have shortened the code so it is that, with the variable setting code above.
Any help is very much appreciated.
    Thanks!
    ------Scott.

I have not tested exporting without passing any options. You have however created a variable to an empty options object but not passed it.
    did you also try…
    app.activeDocument.exportFile( fileSpec, type, exportOptions );

  • Driving me nuts: Working with sRGB images for web

Good day ladies and gentlemen, I have a problem that's driving me nuts:
Basically, I want to create a graphic (a logotype) that is going to be used on a website, so I've learned that if I want to create anything for the web, I have to use the monitor color profile instead of the standard sRGB 2.1 because otherwise everything I make in PS will look completely different when opened in a browser or anywhere else, which I learned the hard way.
Now, as long as I only create original content with that kind of color settings - it works. The stuff I make in PS looks the same in a browser. However, as soon as I want to use a photo or in this case a separate graphic with the sRGB color profile - everything starts to fall apart. Everything sRGB I try to import into my non-profiled work turns bleak and with a yellowish tint.
If I change my working color profile to sRGB the photos look like they should, but then instead all my original content will still look completely wrong in a browser or any other application.
I don't believe it HAS to be this way, since there are so many websites that seem to be able to look great and have rich, good-looking photos in them at the same time. I mean, there must be a solution to this problem, no?
I'm using a MacBook Pro (Late 2008) with the 9400M/9600M GT and a Benq EW2430 external monitor over DVI. Mac OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard. Photoshop CS5 with the latest update (12.0.4 I believe?)
Big thanks for any help. It would be greatly appriciated. Let me know if posting any screenshots would help solve the problem.

try this (if you want to)
first highlight the OEM default monitor profile for your monitor in Displays> Color> Display Profile
reboot (and confirm the profile is still highlighted there)
then drag this PhotoDisc tagged sRGB image to your desktop and open it in Photoshop
USE THE EMBEDDED PROFILE (or Edit> Assign Profile: sRGB to be sure)
at that point the color should look correct (exactly as it looks in Safari here - if it doesn't look exactly correct here in Safari, it is because you have a bad monitor profile)
then in Photoshop: Image> Duplicate (to see two same files side by side for a comparison)
then on one image: Edit> Assign Profile (the monitor profile you have loaded in Displays)
be sure to set the profile in the bottom left (see below) so it displays (so we can see them in your screen shot)
THEN TAKE A SCREEN SHOT of the two windows side by side and post it here
(Command+Shift+4 and drag the area you want captured)
If I understand your advice right, you suggest that when I'm creating
stuff for the web, I should always, always use sRGB as my working
space? But then on export I should just not embed the profile, correct?
sRGB is the only color you should ever post on the Internet for web viewing
always CONVERT to sRGB before saving for the web (if it is not already in the sRGB color space) ie, leave that option checked in Save For Web Devices
i think most people don't embed the profile in web images, but this was hit on succinctly above post 13:
There is no true color management on the web. As different browsers offer different types of CM support, the
best that you can do as a designer is to convert to sRGB (if not
already) and save color-critical images with the embedded sRGB profile.
    That's the general rule.

  • Looking for best practices for web delivery of Captivate tutorials

I have a set of ~50 Adobe Captivate projects that are a mix of UI tour, business process overviews, and how-tos for configuring those processes. These "tutorials" as we call them, vary in length, ~1-3 minutes for the UI tours and overviews, and 4-10 minutes for the how-tos. We use narration, which we recorded in Audacity on Windows and imported as MP3s into Captivate. We are not using menus or interactivity, and are not integrated with an LMS.
The goal is to deliver these tutorials in-context in the UI of our web-based enterprise application. Our customers typically have several thousand users and when they kick of a new cycle of a business process, have hundreds of simultaneous users logged in, many of whom may view our tutorials when they first log in. This means optimal network performance is critical.
We initially output the Captivate projects to SWF format and used the standard HTML page as a means for a simple, progressive download. Users said it took too long to download before the tutorials could start playing. We tried converting the SWFs to FLV and delivered them via a streaming server. Even after optimizing the data rate and codec's compression settings, users reported that the volume of data being streamed to simultaneous users is too great and is adversely affecting their networks. As an example of the file sizes I'm talking, we have a five about are 6 MB for a SWF and 8.7 MB for an FLV.
Can anyone suggest strategies for optimizing delivery of the SWF files, the FLVs, or another format all together? I would like to stay with Captivate because of our investment in training and the fact it is included with our licenses for the Technical Communications 2 Suite. We are using Captivate 4.0.1 build 1658 on Windows XP, and Sorenson Squeeze 6 for compressing the FLVs with the On2 VP6 codec.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Alan

The tutorial I mention in my example below is five minutes in length.

  • Partition an Advanced Format drive with 4KB sector (for Linux OS only)

I got a brand new WD 1TB drive, model WD10EZEX, I'm upgrading from an old 500 GB drive with Arch running on it, and I'm going to make a fresh Arch install on it.
I suddenly learned about all this Advanced Format issue, with the first units "lying" about physical sector size and all that stuff, which started like 2 years ago and I was not aware of.
I couldn't find a step by step guide to perform the proper formatting for a fresh Linux OS install with 4KB-sector, despite the info is out there scattered in tons of blogs, forums, etc.
I figured out the steps for my simple setup, and I'd like to know if everything is all right. For the ones who already know the steps, can you please go to the bottom of the post, and tell me if the final setup is all right to start the fresh install ??  I reproduce all the steps hoping that this will help other people in the future.
I'll use the whole drive only for an Archlinux install, with one partition for the / and another for /home.
Seems the GPT modern method is the way to go, and the gdisk tool will do the trick. If we are booting from this drive, with GRUB2 in a BIOS system, we must also create a BIOS Boot Partition.
So, with the drive having no partitions at all, and sda being the device name

Your partitions look fine from an Advanced Format point of view. The test is simple: Are all your partitions' start points, as measured in sectors, divisible by 8? Yours are.
karamaz0v wrote:what confused me a bit, was that I saw a lot of setups with the BIOS boot partition, and also a 200 MB EFI one. Having a BIOS system, I think I don't need the EFI one.
Some people do this because they're unclear of their requirements. Others do it because they want to have the option of switching boot modes between BIOS/legacy and EFI. With both types of boot loader installed, you can choose on a boot-by-boot basis which way to start the computer, assuming it supports both boot modes.

  • Converting sequence or QT file for Web use

I have a short 13-minute sequence that I need to convert to a QT file in order to then convert to flash for posting to our Web site. I've done this multiple times today with no luck in reducing the file size. By exporting using Quick Time Conversion, using my default settings for compression (H.264) type, the file size of the final .mov file was 200-some MB. After changing my settings to a lower quality final product, I now have a file .mov that is 2GB!?
I have several files that I'll need to convert QT files for posting to the Web. The lengths range from 5 minutes to an hour.
Can anyone give me any kind of advice on the best way to convert to a QT file resulting in a smaller file size? If I am making something very simple, very difficult, please lend your thoughts!

    Hi there,
FCP may estimate unusual time remaining but usually that estimate is not accurate. When I export to H.264 very often it appears that FCP hangs on 7% but thing is it eventually will encode within 15 minutes. Circumstances change from case to case (machine specs, length of movie, export settings).
Set an IN and OUT on a portion of your timeline and export again to test quality and the time your machine require to encode.

    Hi ,
    as per my knowledge.....................
When you create a WSDL with the help of a wizard. In the Integration Directory, choose Tools -> Define Web Service to enter the wizard.
On Propose URL button, as this genertated URL default Point to Entegration Engine.. SO already proformance wise Good.
If You want to Point your URL to adapter engine , use below given URL this will point ur incoming soap  message to SOAPadapter sender channel
    http://<host>:<j2ee-port>/XISOAPAdapter/MessageServlet?channel=:<service>:<channel>.

  • Enhance BOL with Z-fields for Web Service

    Hello,
I need to create Web Service for quotation.
I want to add some Z-fields to this WS. I think I need to enhance BTAdminH BOL.
I already append structure with Z-fields to BTAdminH BOL, however I don't know where I should write ABAP code for filling those fields.
How can I find class for BTAdminH BOL, and how can I convert it to Z-class?
Is it risky to do in already alive system?
    Best Regards,
    Veronica

    Hello Robert,
I have already read this blog and my colleague tried to do the same, however we can't transfer it to QA system because the development is in local package (as it is described in the blog).
Do you know how to transfer it to QA system?
Failure to transfer to QA leads us to search other solution like enhance BOL.

  • Help with using photos for web

I would like to use some photos I have stored in iphoto library, but I need to reduce them. Reading the help guide, it is indicate to export to web page. But in that case it opens automatically a new web page. How can I export to a page that I have already created?
Moreover what I do not understand is how can I reduce the dimension of the photo without changing the quality? This can be done in iphoto with export?
I am a little bit confused...
    thanks for help

Yep you have answered your own question.
Choose export, file export and click the scale images option, and original options (assuming they are already jpegs).
(As you say exporting as webpage creates the page for you but can create images in two sizes (thumnails and main) which can be helpful. The downside the that the filenames for the images as numeric. 1.jpg, 2.jpg etc.)
While a longer process and with no direct control over file size and quality I prefer the file export option as above. It preserves filenames and quality is fine.
and do choose 'original' as you should avoid re-saving a jpeg as a jpeg (that causes a quality reduction)
You will need to manually bring the images into your web pages (save the exported images into your site folder and bring each one into your page individually) unless you are very clever with filenaming!
    Hope this helps.

  • Can LR use original pics with original dimensions for web slideshow?

I have a series of JPG pics that are already set to the proper size and compression. For creating a web presentation, is there a way to tell Lightroom to use the JPG's "as-is" (i.e., get Lightroom to not resize the pics and to not change the quality)?
    Thanks.
    Kevin

I have the same problem in that filenames created with (for instance) photographer-place--year_month_day-filename.cr2 are exported by Lightroom 3.4.1 correctly, without change, into jpg versions, but TTG Highslide Gallery Pro (or, rather, Lightroom) forces a conversion eliminating the dashes and replacing them by underscores. TTG states on its website that this is unavoidable in the Lightroom web module, and recommends entering one's wishes in the "File Handling" tab within Lightroom Preferences.
However, my LR preferences include the standard File Name Generation option "Replace illegal file name characters with: Dashes (-)" so this would indicate that a dash is not regarded by Lightroom as illegal and therefore should be left alone. As is in fact the case on a normal export from a raw cr2 to jpg: no change in Lightroom and therefore no problem. But export via LR via TTG causes an unwanted conversion from dashes to underscores.
While searching the web I came across this old post http://thephotogeek.com/ttg-web-gallery-client-selections-lightroom/
which mentions the question as a LR2 bug.
I then exported a web gallery using LR's standard web template and here too all file names are converted from dashes to underscores, despite what is entered in LR's preferences. So my conclusion is that this remains a LR bug, and no fault of TTG.
I am delighted with TTG and couldn't do without it, but am still stuck with this issue which shouldn't need to be an issue at all, if only LR would leave things alone.
