7200's + 2960's - ASR1001's + ME3600's

Hi,
We are looking at replacing 7200's + 2960/3560s' at our POPs with 2 x ASR1001's and 2 x ME3600X's - We primarily provide L3VPN (VRF's) to our customers (All L3 done on the 7200's) - At some of our POP's we have IPTransit(Full tables)+Peering sessions on the 7200's (We also peer with some customers).
We are planning on running MPLS on the ME3600's and terminating customer vrf's there (Rather than on the ASR's), the ASR's will have the IPTransit+Peering sessions (Plus connect to our other POPs via TE tunnels)
We have a couple of POPs that do not (currently) have any IPTransit or Peering sessions - At these POP's could we simply use the ME3600's without the ASR's? Or is the TE functionality on the ASR's more feature rich than the ME's?  There is a potential for these POP's to provide Peering to customers, which I assume would be best served by the ASR's?
I know this is a very broad question, but not being overly familiar with the ME3600 range, what "cant" they do compared to the ASR's (Assuming we are running the MetroIPAccess IOS on the ME's)
Cheers.

Do some reading and research.....and u will find no drive even gets close to ata 100 spec.....mine are 360 raptors...they only break 55 .....65 to 93 in raid 0....but that also isnt full time.....thats an average at Very best....the new 74 gig raptor can push 65 byit self...400.00 CDN... Ive read the the average7200 HD is running about  35....I have 2 pcs the other has an older 7200 maxtor on it ....and the diff between these 2 for hd speed....isnt seen in 50% of programs im running...and the other 50 % so are very good....and others are just good .....but not Breakneck speed, even though the ( manufactures would say so).....its like Videocards ....some upgrades only gain u 5 to 10% in ur games....and I bet u havent notice it....unless u look for that 1 extra Pixel in the wall..in the back conner...in the dark....behind u ......

  • ASR1001 interface won't come UP

    Hi,
I need some help with the connection between a ASR1001 and a Catalyst 2960G. The interface on the ASR won't come up, and I am pretty sure this is a configuration issue but I can't figure it out
At first, both interfaces wouldn't come up, but since I have set speed and duplex to 1000/full on both sides, the switch port is up/up but the router port is still down...
    Switch configuration :
    interface GigabitEthernet0/6
     switchport trunk allowed vlan 425,605
     switchport mode trunk
     speed 1000
     duplex full
     no cdp enable
     spanning-tree bpdufilter enable
    Router configuration :
    interface GigabitEthernet0/0/0
     no ip address
     ip access-group InFilter in
     speed 1000
     no negotiation auto
     ip virtual-reassembly
    interface GigabitEthernet0/0/0.425
     encapsulation dot1Q 425
     ip address x.x.x.x 255.255.255.0
     no ip redirects
     no ip unreachables
     standby 221 ip x.x.x.x
     standby 221 timers msec 250 msec 800

    Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions...
Is there a debug I could turn on to troubleshoot the L2 on the ASR ?

    Hi,
Did you manage to sort this issue out?
    I've currently mocked up a lab environment with an ASR1001-X and a 2960S (10G).
I have a similar setup to yourself but am using 10G between interfaces connected via MM fibre.
Interestingly, i'm not seeing any connectivity either.
I'll upgrade the 2960 to 15. code to see if it makes any difference.

  • ME3600 - SVI's + Service Instances‏

    Hi Everyone,
Very new to the ME3600 platform, so hoping someone can assist with the following:
We currently have 4948's connecting to various carriers - Each port is a trunk, and has a vlan per tail.
    i.e.
    int gig1/1
    desc AGG_TO_CARRIER_A
    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
    switchport mode trunk
    switchport trunk allowed vlan 10,20,30
We then have another port on the 4948's (Trunk), that allows all vlans from all the carrier AGG ports that connects to 7200's or ASR1000's (We have multiple POP's), and each vlan is then added to dot1q subint and thrown into a vrf or standard "Inet" Interface....we also apply service-policys (egress shaping/ingress marking) on the L3 Interfaces
We are wanting to run MPLS on the ME3600s, and do all the L3 stuff on them rather than the 7200'sand ASR's - So, we will still have the 4948's, multiple carrier AGG's, multiple vlans's but the trunk port(From the 4948s) that currently goes to the 7200's and ASR's will now go to the ME3600s - So, a few questions:
    1. What would the ME3600 Trunk port(That connects back to the 4948) config look like? i.e. Similar to how we currently do it (switchport trunk allowed vlan 10,20.30,40...), and then create SVI's for each vlan and apply L3/VRF/service policies? Or do SVI's not support service policies and we would need to use service instances? (The 4948's typically have ~100+ vlans(tails) from the various carrriers)
    2. If service instances are required, can anyone please provide an example of how the config would look (Or point me to some documentation please?)
Thanks in advance for your help.

1.) Thanks for your reply, so load balancing and/or fail over will only happen between different instances of the single database or can it also be possible between 2 different databases provided the databases are in sync??
Yes, it can be done between two databases as well and this is called Standby database configuration. This won't do the load balancing for you but you would get teh switchover (or Failover) between two.
2.) Would it be possible to have PROD & DR database servers with load/fail over options configured and also with dataguard setup between those 2 DB's will have same IP addresses & host names like below?
    PROD      DataBase Server     tsjipud186.xyz.mq.abcd.net     123.45.67.30

Hmm may be I need a cup of coffee because not able to parse the question.

  • ASR1001 CPU Die treshold?

    Hello guys,
I am looking for CPU Die treshold for ASR1001 model.
The only thing about the overall nominal working temperature treshold I found is that unlike in ASR1004, 1001 cannot work for a short time during high temperatures.
Regarding the CPU Die I was not able to find anything in Cisco documentation. (only for 7200 router)
    thanks a lot!!

The i5 processor has a TCase value of 72.6°Celsius; anything from the Tcase and below will be the expected temperature of the processor in normal use, anything that doesn't stress out the processor like watching movies, burning CDs, browsing the internet, creating documents, etc.
When the processor is stressed out and it is being use at 100%,  the temperature will go beyond the Tcase. It can perfectly reach 80 to 90°Celsius and the processor will still be OK. The cooling fan is in charge to keep that temperature there.
If the temperature reaches 100 °Celsius or more, that is consider overheating.
I assume CPU proximity is the CPU heatsink. CPU Die is the same, CPU Die.

  • Do I need to have an external hard drive that has a certain spindle speed, like 7200?

In the past, when I did audio or video editing, the specs on the software required a certain rotational speed if I were using an external hard drive. Most of the time it was 7200. Do I need to use a specific spindle rotational speed for Final Cut Pro, or will drive 5400 or above do fine?

That still applies today as well. Helps to also use faster connection ports like Firewire 400 or 800, USB 3.0, or Thunderbolt rather than USB 2.0.

    Hello.
After purchasing the Cisco WS-2960S-48TS-L decided to do a firmware upgrade using the CISCO NETWORK ASSISTANT. Unfortunately update failed. Currently the switch when you run can not load the system image.
Since up to now I had to deal with the other switches do not really know how to upload the correct image now. The more that you connect the switch through the console acts as to a limited extent.
    Please help

    Thank you Leo Laohoo.
    Your suggestion to usbflash0 helpful.
It is true that I was struggling because of usbflash latest iso system also did not want to go, but I recorded version of one lower and went.
By the way, I learned that the USB must be formatted to FAT file system.
Again, thank you for your help.

  • Stop the beeps with the 7200 rpm hard disks of the MacBook Pro

Stop the beeps with the 7200 rpm hard disks of the MacBook Pro
from HardMac.com by [email protected] (Lionel)
At the beginning of week, we have spoken about the unpleasant beeps made by the 7200 rpm hard drive proposed as an option in the MacBook Pro 2009.
A solution has been found, the details are given by Rémy.
These tedious beeps occur when the disc is inactive and are caused by a system
to reposition the play-back head carried out in a repetitive way.
In addition to the beeps of the hard drive, Mac OS X displays the pretty multicoloured wheel during some seconds while waiting for hard drive to finish these loadings and unloadings of the play-back head.
The solution comes with a utility of the name hdapm (for Hard Disk Advanced Power Management) which makes it possible to change the level of energy management (APM) of the hard drive.
Hdapm can be downloaded from : http://mckinlay.net.nz/hdapm; hdapm being a command line utility, it is thus necessary to use the Terminal (which is in /Applications/Utilitaires).
After copying hdapm into your user file, the command to enter is:
    sudo ~/hdapm disk0 max
disk0 corresponds to the disc to regulate knowing that hdapm should function with any ATA disk supporting APM
max is the level of APM which is a number ranging between 1 and 254 included
the word following are preset and can used in the place a number for the level of APM
max (maximum performance) is the parameter to use to eliminate the “beeps”.
    min (maximum economy of energy)
default (returns to the default setting)
The level of APM is a temporary adjustment in the firmware of the hard drive, this adjustment is lost when the disk is powered down and it is thus necessary to redo this at each for each start up.
To install hdapm so it is launched at each start-up, it is necessary to copy hdapm to the hard drive (/usr/local/bin is advised) and to copy the file hdapm.plist in /Library/LaunchDaemons.
It will be can be necessary to you to edit hdapm.plist with the desired parameters; the default settings are: the repertory where hdapm is /usr/local/bin, the hard drive is regulated on the first (disk0) and the level of APM is the maximum.
You can simply copy the file hdapm into /usr/local/bin file if you want to avoid modifying Plist.
Simplest way to reach these files is to use the Go/go to the file and to copy/paste this address before validating.

Yeah, I don't buy that. I spoke with Seagate a couple of months ago when I was looking for the impossible to find 500 GB 7200 RPM HD and asked them that very thing. They told me it would work fine, but I should disable SMS. Apple told me the same thing. I ultimately waited and got a non G-Force model, but Seagate told me it would work.
I also don't believe that they'd OEM the drive to Apple knowing it wouldn't work. That makes absolutely no sense. If Seagate knew the G-Force drive would not function properly in an Apple MacBook/MacBook Pro, and they OEM'd it to Apple for that purpose anyway, what does that say about Seagate?
I admit it's odd that the used the G-Force model given the presence of SMS, but apparently Seagate has prioritized the manufacturing of the G-Force drives and probably offered it to Apple.

  • Can my hp photosmart all-in-one 7200 printer connect to ipad 2 via bluetooth?

I have a hp photosmart all-in-one 7200 printer with a hp blue tooth dongle.  It works well with my cameras, but I cannot get my ipad 2 to recognize the printer.

    Hi,
Printing via Bluetooth from an iPad is not possible due to iOS limitations, as Apple did not include the Bluetooth printing protocol in the iOS.
If your printer is HP Photosmart C7200, you may use the HP ePrint Home & Biz App to print from your iPad through your home network
However for the Officejet 7200 your only option is to look for any available 3rd party printing solution from the App Store.

  • How can I tell if my HD is a 7200 RPM One?

I bought a MBP 17" High Res, from an apple store. With a 160 GB HD. On the outside of the box it said that the HD was 7200 RPM, which came as a nice surprise, because online they list the 160 HD as 5200 RPM. I was going to order the 200 GB HD 7200 RPM, but that was only available online and to order. As I could not wait, I decided to go for the 160. Except I would like to know where I can find that it's a 7200 RPM Drive, as my friend tells me its a mistake, they don't make 160 HD at 7200 RPM!!!! How can they say it on the box? Can someone tell me where I will find this information. I have looked under
about this mac.... but dont see the rpm anywhere.... Thanks

I read that there were a lot of problems with seagate drives. do you know if that was just a batch of them?
Supposedly, it's just 60 and 80 GB, 5400 RPM, drives with firmware version 7.01 that are affected. The firmware version is the "Revision" in the System Profiler listing. Mine's "3.DAE".
Mine seems to be okay so far. I just got it by luck wasn't expecting it when I bought it at the apple store, thought they were all the 5400 ones.....
Who knows? Maybe it was a build to order that someone didn't claim. Or maybe the had a few extra 7200 RPM 160s left when they quit offering them as an option online, but not enough to keep advertising them. So they just stuck them in.

  • Unable to remove Static Drop entry | 2960 Cam Table

    Hi all,
I am facing a strange issue here on a production switch (Cisco 2960 IOS 12.2(55)SE5)
I have the following entry in my cam table:
    switch#show mac add int gi0/10

    123    1234.1234.1234 STATIC      Drop
Although this mac-id has not been statically entered in any way it shows up as static and I can't remove it. I tried all possible clear commands without success. As a last step I reset the interface to the default empty config just configuring it as access port in an office vlan.
I am trying to avoid having to reload the switch to clear the related memory as this generates downtime. Has anyone ever faced such an issue and can advise me?

    Hi Umesh,
Of course there is nothing with this mac in the config. That was like the first thing that has been checked. There was dot1x running on this and all the other ports which of course has been disabled and cleared accordingly.
The problem is that there is some sort of cam table holding the Drop entries and although it should the memory is not being freed up when using the commands according to the documentation.
This is definitely a question for an IOS geek or someone who already had a similar issue once. If I open a TAC case they will tell me to reboot so the only hope is really someone who had this issue already once and resolved it without reboot.
    Anyone with experience in this?

Hello, I changed my Imac hard drive which no longer worked. I installed a hard drive
Western Digital 500 GB 7200 rpm SATA3 WD5002AALX 32M Black. Sometimes I see the hard disk in the utility on the Starter CD, but access seems very slow. By cons when I want
install OS X 10.4.2 on the hard drive, I do not see the disk. What is the problem?

    Thanks for the help
I started on the installation CD OS X 10.4.2, I used Disk Utility
to partition the disk according to the document that you have proposed. unfortunately
I have not succeeded. When I partition the disk, even if I called it Macintosh HD, it
does not keep the name and it shows disk0s3 instead. I did an erase on disk.
When I mount the disk it tells me that I must repair. When I tried to repair, I got
    the following message:
    Volume check failed
The underflying task reported failure on exit
    1 HFS volume checked
1 volume could not be repaired because of an error.
    I also had a message:
    Invalid b-tree node size.
Note: The disc is new, but it has already been formatted on a computer Imac 27 inch 2011 OS X Lion.
I used a USB 2.0 to SATA cable to adjust the formatting.
What to do to fix it?

  • Dead hard drive: 7200 RPM HDD compatible with a L500-19X Satellite?

Last night, i believe the HDD of my 2 and a half year old L500-19X Satellite died.  When I tried to boot, it hung up on the windows icon, and when I try rebooting, it asks me if I want to try some kind of boot recovery function...but when I go to that, it hangs up with only the background displayed. So there seems no way to access the Windows recover functions saved on the hard drive.  I do not have an external HDD case, so I can't really tell if the HDD is turning or not.
I bought a new HDD - it is a 500 GB 7200 RPM Seagate.  I used the Toshiba recovery disks, however, once the laptop uploaded all the data and tried to boot, it would always hang up, saying that it cannot complete windows installation, and I should try rebooting...which only results in it hanging again.  Desperate to have a functional computer, I also tried installing Ubuntu, but the Ubuntu installation also failed after a few minutes, giving me an error message saying the HDD is probably bad or the laser of the CD drive dirty (it appears to be clean).
My question is: could the problem be that I am using a 7200 RPM drive?  I checked the specs of the original drive, and it is only 5400 RPM.  Or is the new HDD probably defective?
If anyone can think of anything else that would cause this problem, I would appreciate any tips you can give me!  I am *pretty* sure that the motherboard and the rest of the hardware are sound, since it seemed to operate fine when reading the backup DVDs and the Ubuntu DVD - it only had problems when trying to access the HDD.
    Thanks!!

I thought it might use the advanced-format technology. But that's apparently not the case.

If you are going to upgrade your harddisk, why not upgrade to SSD harddisk. You macbook pro supports SATA II SSD drives acccording to these Specs. SATA III is backward compatible with SATA II, so you can buy SATA III drive if you can't find SATA II drives.
Upgrading to SATA II SSD drive you give you super fast performence.
These are a few Segate SSD drives from amazon, that are not that expensive, I guess.
As for Western Digital vs Segate comparison, I second clintonfrombirmingham's suggestion. Western Digital never works for me.
    *** After the harddisk upgrade
    Install latest OS if possible

  • Trying to install os 8 on 7200/75

Picked up an old but in very good condition power macintosh 7200/75.I am trying to install a retail copy of os 8 on it. Tried the press c on bootup but it goes straight to the hard drive. When the computer is booted into 7.6.1 and the os 8 cd is in the drive it does not show on the desktop. I also tried booting to the disk tools floppy but this gets spit out and when I try to look at it in 7.6.1 it says the disk is unreadable.
When I look at the contents of the cd on my macbook everything appears to be fine.
    Any ideas?

Of the (2) "Disk Tools" floppy disks that were included with the OS installer CD, one was designed to boot a pre-PowerPC Mac and the other a PowerPC Mac. Obviously, the latter should work with your 7200, but the fact that neither does raises the question of whether the floppy drive is functional. When booted in OS 7.6.1, have you tried inserting a blank floppy disk to test the drive's read/write capabilities? I had a couple of unresponsive (worn out) floppy drives that I had to replace, when I bought some older, used Power Macs. If you had any thrift stores in your area that sold older computers for very little, you might be able to find a comparable Power Mac to use for parts. This would eliminate the shipping expense for the odds & ends you may need to buy. Keep in mind that a functioning 7200 with a 75 MHz 601 processor is a slow computer. Even if your expectations are minimal, the costs for reviving it will likely exceed its value. I made that mistake about 6-7 years ago, when I bought (3) 7200s (mint condition) for very little. Although the processor speeds varied (75 MHz, 90 MHz, and 120 MHz), the 7200 motherboard had serious upgrade limitations - especially with a soldered processor. Fortunately, the 7200 power supply is compatible with the 7500, 7600, and 8500 motherboards. I ended up replacing all three motherboards with 8500 boards, which provided dual SCSI buses, a processor slot (enabling the use of a variety of faster processors), more memory slots, and an A/V module. I poured too much money into them, making them the equivalent of the better-designed PCI Power Macs that replaced the 7200 series. Today - even in mint condition - I wouldn't invest any $$ in a 7200 or any of the "beige" Macs. Two years ago, when I saw a mint condition beige G3-266 MHz desktop for $25 in a thrift store, I had to remind myself that it was 10 years old and resist the urge to buy it.
