720P over component cable connection?

I am about to take the plunge and purchase an Apple TV but have one question that I would love an ansswer to before I makee the purchase. My Pioneer 50" plasma has two HDMI inputs that are both in use (one for the Time Warner cable box and the other for PS3/Blu-ray). One of the main selling points for me on the Apple TV is the ability to rent in HD (since Time Warner on Demand does not have such capability). I think I will probably still use the PS3/Blu-ray more often so I'm thinking of hooking up the Apple TV to the non-HDMI component input (the three color one -- sorry, I'm not very tech oriented). Am I correct that the HD rentals would look just as good as if the Apple TV were hooked up via HDMI (since the HD rentals top out at 720P)? Audio is not a concern since I will hook up an optical cable to my Bose 3-2-1 receiver regardless of video input. Basically, this is a long-winded way of asking if anyone gets 720P output on an Apple TV using a component cable. Many thanks in advance.

How about one cable for audio and video instead of 4 or 5 with component.(4 if using optical for audio, 5 if using stereo rca cables)
HDMI is much better since one cable will give you your audio and video. That alone is mor ethan enough reason to use HDMI.

  • Want to use my laptop as a monitor for PS2. Component cables connect how?

Since the big fancy TV townstairs is not exactly my personal one, I would like to play whenever, and wherever I want. I know I can connect HDMI cables via an adaptor, but this is component I am dealing with.
What exact adaptor do I need to connect component AV cables to my laptop, and how make it work as a monitor?

Buying another HDTV likely would be the better choice as it's a larger screen, easier to play games and watch movies than prematurely burning out your expensive laptop and wearing out the port connecting and reconnecting.
A PS2 is really a console designed to be more or less pernamently connected to a HDCP compliant HDTV for high quality content, not a non-compliant laptop computer.
But I guess if you want to screen record PS2 games for some reason, this should work.

  • Connecting iPOD classic to TV using Apple Component cable

I have a 80g ipod classic and an apple component AV cable. I am trying to connect this to an TV with component video inputs. This TV is not an HDTV. I have attached the bl gr r cables in the correct position. I am getting a scrambled picture for NTSC and a split picture for PAL. based on my location I am sure that I should be using NTSC.
I brought my iPOD into a local apple store and he was able to plug it in to an HDTV there with no problem so I'm pretty sure that niether the ipod or the cable is defective.
    My question is:
Is the ipod classic only compatible with an HDTV using the component cable? If so, will it work using the composite cable?

The dock is only good so you can use the remote. I don't know what the problem is with your Standard TV's with Component Inputs ... I've tried two different ones, also different brands, and they worked. I did make sure to change the iPod Video Settings to "TV Size = Standard". If it's set to Widescreen, that may account for the problem.
Otherwise, I'd suggest returning the Component cables and getting the Composite ones ... or just get the Composite ones as well. Personally, I think Apple totally screwed us all over by not just adding ONE dang Composite Video out cable to the AV Cables and allowing the Component Out to have a HD/Standard switch, much like most of the Game Console AV cables available. I don't know why they didn't do this, especially since we've got about 2 years before EVERYONE starts upgrading to HD. I guess they're just hoping to rake in some extra money by not making the Component AV Cable more capable.

You have the display set in Extended Desktop mode. In System Preferences>Display on the MacBook screen there should be an Arrangement tab when you have the MacBook hooked up to the TV and both screens working. When you click the Arrangement tab do you see two monitors side by side? One of them will have a Menu Bar at the top. Just click on the Menu Bar and drag it to the second monitor. That will make the second monitor your main screen. You can now use your MacBook in Clamshell Mode with a wired or Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131 When you disconnect from the TV your Menu Bar will automatically change back to the MacBook.
Or if you want to work on the MacBook screen while showing it on a TV you can check the Mirror Display box on the lower left hand side of the Arrangement tab under the two monitors box.

  • Ipod Classic doesn't play video with Component cables

I just bought a new Ipod Classic and I have it connected to my Denon receiver using the Denon dock.  I am able to play music and movies from the ipod.  But when I try to play movies thru my small LG tv (Apple red, rellow white component cable) I only get audio and only if I have it in the white docking station.  Do I need to buy the composite cables to get the video?  I do get a message stating I need to plug into a video source.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

Have tried to completely restore the iPod to factory settings and then resync the video?
    Restoring iPod to factory settings
Before you do that, try converting the video once more using iTunes' built in convert.  To do this, highlight the movie and chooose Create iPod or iPhone version from the Advanced drop down menu.  When the conversion process is finished, sync the new version over to your iPod and see if that helps.

  • Component cable problem

    Hi!
I'm trying to connect my ipod touch 1st gen to my Samsung TV (LED series 5) using a Mac component cable. So far, I've only been able to watch and listen to videos, but unable to play any music.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Roberto!
Your best bet if you don't want voice over is to plug your iPod in to your computer and de-select voice over. However, If it got wet, there may be other problems. Try posting this as a new question, and be specific about what's happening. No doubt that lots of people will be interested and willing to help! Best of luck to you!

  • Apple AV component cable problem

Hi I'm new, i hope you can help me!
my brother gave me the Apple AV component cable (audio: red white, video: red green blue), I was very happy about it and wanted to try it on my tv, but then i recognized that my tv doesn't has the red green and blue ones for video.
It has red white and yellow (scart).
cause of that i bought this http://www.elektro-planet.com/shop/catalog/images/5525-3rgb.jpg , but when I try to use it I don't get anything on the screen.
    Only audio is appearing.
    Can someone help me pls?

I had the same issue at first when I tried to plug the component cable into the front of my tv. Then I found the component connectors on the back of my tv.
The fuller explanation is there are two kinds of cables - Component and Composite.
    Composite cable has three colors:
    Red / White for sound
    Yellow for video
    Component cable has five colors
Red / White grouped as a pair for sound
Red / Blue / Green for video
My tv has AV 1 on the front, it uses Composite - and AV 2 on the back using Component. Hopefully yours also has component plugs somewhere.
I took a movie over to someone else's house and they only had Composite style connectors. Connect the Red/White audio plugs like normal and the green component plug into the yellow composite slot and you get black/white. It's the best you can achieve between two different techs.
I suggest going out and picking up the composite cable as well. Because, frankly, composite is the lowest quality of image and if you've got a higher quality tv then component will do you a better image. Seriously, connecting it all up on my tv and comparing picture quality side-by-side by flipping back/forth AV1 AV2, keep the component cable and get the composite cable as a "fall back" as necessary.

  • No picture using component cable

    Hi All!
Sorry if this has been discussed many times before.
I have a TV without the ability to use HDMI, only SCART and I've bought a component cable in order to connect my Apple TV with my tv. I just can't seem to get any picture and I've already tried cycling through resolutions by following the troubleshooting (holding down menu and for 6 seconds and wait 2 minutes) without any result.

Unfortunately it seems (although I might be wrong) that the cable is intende o work the other way around, ie the scart end would go into a compatible device such as a DVD player with component over scart and the RCA jacks would go into a tv. This is largely to cover the situation I mentioned before where scart on tv sets is usually composite.
That doesn't mean to say that the cable couldn't work the way round you are using it, I think it would, except that it would only work where the scart connector on the tv worked with component. As I said before 99% of scart connections on tv's are composite only. If your tv is one of those that supports component over scart, you may well have a setting on your tv that can toggle between composite and component over scart. You will need to refer to your tv manual to find this out.
If you have an RCA-RCA cable (any one will do) and you have a yellow composite connector on your tv, you can check if the tv is working properly by connecting the yellow port on the tv to the green port on the tv with the said cable, whereby you should get a black and white picture.

  • Convert from component cable to Stereo A/V + S-video for AppleTV

    Hello,
We are looking for a converter cable, box, hub that will convert from component cable (red/blue/green) to Stereo A/V + S-video. We are hooking up a AppleTV box to an older Sony WEGA TV.
Anyone heard of such a product or work around?
We have not made the move to HD and would be bummed if this cannot work.
    Thanks.

http://www.svideo.com/appletv2tv.html has a product that allegedly does this. I haven't used it, so you might want to do some more investigation before handing over the cash! It looks a lot cheaper than other Component->Composite converters out there. You would connect the yellow output from this box to the yellow input on the front of your TV (video). The red and white connectors on your AppleTV to the red and white on the front of your TV (audio). The unit also has an S-Video output, which you should use in preference to the composite if your TV supports it (higher quality).

  • I have an Retina display MacBook Pro with HMDI out port. I also have an HDMI to Component cable with Audio Plugs. How can I get HDMI out to work with this cable when plugged into the Component and Audio ports on my TV?

I have an Retina display MacBook Pro with HMDI out port. I also have an HDMI to Component cable with Audio Plugs. How can I get HDMI out to work with this cable when plugged into the MacBook Pro and connected to the TVs Component and Audio in ports.

Will not work.  To my knowledge, dual converting like that isn't supported.  The Mac must detect the connected video output device and that sort of info cannot be done across an analog component uni-directional connection.

  • Do I need a cable connecting my Time Capsule to Airport Express if I want to use the AE to extend my wifi network range?

I'm a bit confused by conflicting advice given by my local Apple shop and my internet provider.
My cable modem is plugged into a Time Capsule which I use to access the net wirelessly almost all over the house.  The one spot the wireless doesn't quite reach is (of course) where I now need my office and iMac to be.
I thought I could just plug in an Airport Express somewhere in the middle  to extend the network's range but the guy at my local Apple shop said the Airport Express would need to be connected not just to power but to the Time Capsule, via a cable.  That's fiddly and would involve cables running under the floor or along walls and ceilings, not something I can or really want to do.  It's not really practical to try and move the cable connection point either.
My internet provider suggested a netgear wireless extender and said that would only need to be plugged into power.  The reviews of the netgear product I found comparing it to Airport Express suggest that the Express doesn't need to be connected to anything other than power either to extend a network range (which was what I originally thought).
So I'm wondering which advice is correct? I've also read that the netgear product isn't all that easy to set up so I'd rather stick with.   Apple if it will do what I want.
Thanks for any help out there

I'm sure that the guy at the Apple shop means well, but he is not correct.
While it would be preferable to connect the Time Capsule and AirPort Express using a wired Ethernet connection, the Express can connect wirelessly and extend the wireless signal the same way....IF...it is located where it can receive a good wireless signal.

Hi, My iOS device (Ipad mini) only appears in iTunes while cable-connected, but does not appear after diconnect the cable. How can I Wifi sync ?
    Documents say
Whenever the computer and the iOS device are on the same network, the iOS device will appear in iTunes, and you can sync it....
But I can't see my iPad Mini in iTunes.
And my  Ipad  (Settings, General, iTunes Wifi Sinc)  shows  a message :" Sync will resume when xxx(my PC with iTunes) is available "...
Both are in the same network,
Ipad mini is is plugged in to power
. iTunes is open on the computer
    what can i Do ???

Hi Skydiver119,  and tks for four interest.
I have done exactly as you say, but it does not work for me.
You indicated  " Navigate to the info tab and scroll down. There'll be a check box for 'sync over wifi' or something to that effect. Check that box and sync to affirm your choice."
I navigated to Summary tab (not Info Tab) and checked "Sync with this ipad over Wi-Fi"
    I disconnect the wire,
and my iPad disappears from my iTunes screen.
in my iPad ->Settings -> General -> iTunes Wi-Fi Sync -> says " Sync will resume when (my PC) is available.
So, I can not sync via wi-fi
I appreciate if you can help me.

  • Apple iPhone 4 Dock not working with Apple A/V Component Cables.

Okay, Got a problem here, or I think its a problem. I purchased the iPhone 4 dock and the A/V component cables with power connection. When I connect the A/V cables to the iphone, they work fine and I see the video and hear the audio on the tv. When I connect the A/V cables to the iphone 4 dock, then place the iphone 4 on the dock it DOES NOT send the audio and video feed to the TV but it does charge the iphone.
The iPhone 4 dock, on Apple Store website says, its compatible.
    From Apple Site...
(Charge and sync your iPhone 4 with the iPhone 4 Dock. Your iPhone 4 sits upright in the dock as it syncs or charges, so it's perfect for a desk or countertop. It features a convenient audio line out port that connects to powered speakers. It supports other iPad accessories, such as iPhone AV cables and the USB Power Adapter. You can even conduct speakerphone calls with your iPhone 4 in its dock.)
Is anyone else having this problem ?

  • Spartan 3E with Labview 2012 (32 bit) on WIndows 7 64-bit - Error Code: -310602 NI-COBS: Unable to communicate with device over communication cable.

Thanks for the info, Kyle.  I will probably try to find an older 32-bit XP machine.  VM is just not an option for me right now.

    Hello everybody,
I am trying to use the DIgilent Spartan 3E board with Labvew 2012 SP1 32 bit.  I am able to compile the example code for LED shift.  I am however unable to transfer code to the FPGA.  I get the following error message:
    Error Code: -310602
NI-COBS:  Unable to communicate with device over communication cable.
Please verify that the cable is connected to a supported device and that the appropriate drivers are installed.
My system configuration is as follows:
Windows 7 (64 bit) on Dell XPS laptop.
    Labview 2012 SP1 (32 bit)
    Labview FPGA 2012 SP1
Labview 2012 FPGA support for Spartan3E
    Xilinx 13.4 tools
DEFB LV FPGA 2012sp1 support installer
Xilinx USB cable driver v1.3 installed.
I took all the precautions mentioned by others on this forum and others, mainly that the cable must be disconnected before installing the Xilinx cable driver. All software and drivers were installed correctly.  I even uninstalled and reinstalled the entire Labview software set I had.  I still get the same error.
    A few other questions:
    1.  Is the Xilinx cable different from a regular USB cable of the same configuration ?
    2.  When I program the FPGA I only have the USB cable connected between my computer and the Spartan 3e board.  Should any other cable be connected ?
    3.  What should be the correct jumper settings for J1 - JP30 (especially J30, J11, JP9, JP6, JP7, etc) ?
I have been at this or over 3 days trying to figure it out.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.
