720p23.98 and Uncompressed 10-bit with Kona LH don't play together?

FCP 5.1.4
Kona LH 3.4
OS X 10.4.10
QT 7.1.6
I'm at the final stages of my current project which was edited as 720p23.98 DVCProHD, as this is the format that all of the original meterial was shot in. I'm now prepping for a filmout. I'll be delivering a 1280x720 23.976 Uncompresed 10-bit QT to the company doing the filmout.
Here's my issue:
Everything works great and looks fine, however as soon as I switch the video playback in FCP to AJA Kona 720p59.94 10 Bit, playback becomes green snow. I see picture when parked on the timeline, but it won't play out. Switching to 8-bit provides okay playback, but it is a bit shimmery because the sequence compressor is 10-bit. My question is this: Is this just my system, or is it just not possible to get the Kona to play out 720p at 10 bit?
I did a test and I can play out NTSC at 10 bit and 1080i29.97 at 10 bit. It only seems to be 720p that won't play out at 10 bit.
Ideas? Suggestions?

Yes, the rest of the process.
I unrendered everything, switched the compressor for the sequence to Uncompressed 10-bit 4:2:2, changed the video processing to render all in high precision YUV, set motion filtering to best, and rendered. Hit play, green snow to monitor, but proper playback in canvas.
Exported a self contained QT, plays fine in QT player, plays fine for the folks doing the filmout, it just won't play out to my monitor through the Kona LH when FCP playback is set to 10 bit. Actually I have two monitors in the bay right now, one is a Sony Luma showing a downconverted SD signal (via SDI) the other is a Sony BVM-D24E showing the HD signal (via HD-SDI). Both show green snow when playback is set to 10 bit, so I know this is not caused by letting the Kona LH downconvert to SD.

i did, however install a CODEC pack that changes the way video and audio is handled system-wide (K-Lite Codec Pack  - OFFICIAL website: http://codecguide.com/ and more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K-Lite_Codec_Pack ) which is where I think MY problem stems from. ducci13 , have you ever installed ANY codecs, codec packs, xvid video players/codecs, ANY other type of Media/Video/Audio player (such as VLC, Winamp, MPC (Media Player Classic), XVID Player, DIVX Player/Codec, etc)
    OR

  • Creative Zen with keys that don't play well.

,Creative Zen with keys that don't play well.uHello all,
I have had a Creative Zen 6 GB for a couple of years. It is has not been a pretty picture. This product has been the most problematic mp3 player I have ever owned...but it has usually played music and I have been able to navigate the menus. A couple of months ago, the keys started to not respond very well. It almost seems like they are stiff and when I press them (not all, but most), they just don't do what they once did. If i keep on? mashing on the keys, eventually I can get it into working order enough to use, but what a royal pain this has been. I don't know if I should continue messing with it if there is physical damage, which it feels like. However, I have not used it that much and don't know what may have caused this, other than bouncing around in a gym bag.
Anyone have any thoughts before it goes to the scrap heap?

. It is physical damage & they just wear out. They wear out faster when they are pushed very hard. The control pad can be replaced. You can DYI or send to someone to repair. DYI? repair services

  • Premiere Pro 6 and Audition Audio issues with Kona Lhi

    Hello,
When I have Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Audition open at the same time, and I send an audio clip from Premiere Pro to Audition for editing, I have no sound in Audition. If I have only one of these programs open, the audio works fine in both. Since these programs are linked together it is essential that I have audio in both, even though, both programs are open. Is there a driver fix or some other way to get Premiere Pro to release the Kona Card LHi when switching to Audition? I am using a Mac Pro 2 x 2.4 6-core 24MB Ram 1333 DDR3 and Quadro 4000 with Kona Lhi Drivers 10.4.4 with Adobe presets.
    Thanks,

    Hello Dunamis,
Unfortunately this is a known issue with the Kona card. I know this is something they would like to fix but I'm uncertain on the timeframe.
There are times when this workflow will work without issue but when it goes into the bad state you will need to quit the apps.

  • I have iPhoto 08 and have been happy with it. Don't want to upgrade. But suddenly, when I click on an event, instead of all the photos, I just get one- enlarged- and cannot move to the next one. The photo just jumps up or down.  How to solve?

I have posted "submit" twice and keep getting requests to submit again.  Now being asked to write a summary! Here we go.  I have iPhoto 08 and am happy with it.  Don't want to upgrade. But suddenly when I click on an event, instead of getting all the photos, I just get a large version of one photo and cannot move on to the others.  The right arrow will not move it and the photo just jumps around.

Note the slider bottom right of the iPhoto Window. Drag it left.

  • I am having diffuculty on Firefox 13.0.1 with Youtube videos (don't play), google maps (streetview doesn't show) and photobucket (doesn't upload).

When I try to play a video on Youtube I get the following message: "An error occured. Please try again later."
When I activate street view on Google maps, I get a blank screen.
When I try to download on Photobucket the 'My computer' tab for choosing files is blank

Update: I'm not sure what happened to get my installation in such a state, but I was able to fix it. Here's how:
Clicked on "Firefox"->"Help"->"Restart with Add-ons Disabled". A message came up and I clicked "Restart". When Firefox reopened, a message came up with the option to "Reset". I chose to reset and everything came back normally. Not sure why this happened but all's well that ends well.

  • Sprint AIRAVE and WRT54G2 V1 don't play together?

Sprint says this router will not work with their Airave.  Sure enough out of the box it does not work.  Airwave works when hooked to modem but does not work when ran through router.  I can't believe that there is no way to make this work.  If you have a solution that is so cool, just use baby steps to walk me through.  THANKS!

It must be a compatibility issue, I assume it must not be designed to work with this model of linksys router, though it might work with other models...
Did you ask Sprint what model of linksys router it will support ?

  • G-Raid or G-Sata for Uncompressed 8 bit ??

I'm looking to buy some reliable storage to do 2 streams of uncompressed 8 bit with my MBP 2.16 Ghz c2d. I'm not sure wether i should go with G-Raid 500 or G-Sata 500 and the Sonnet Express/34 combo ???
I've tested using my Lacie drive with FW800 into the macbook pro playing back 1-2 stream of uncompressed 8 bit video and the result was not bad but not 100 % reliable ( keep getting the drop frame window once in a while ). So at this point i was hoping the Sata route will be safer....any suggestions ??? Thanks.

Both work. The G-Raid can get up to 3 streams of uncompressed 8-bit, and I think the G-SATA can to, if not one more stream for four.

  • Safari 3 for Win and Mac not working with sites

I work for a company that does all the IT stuff for the county of San Diego, and it was brought to our attention that the County site (and some of the sites in it) don't play nice with Safari 3 on either platform. I downloaded the latest beta, plugged in http://www.sdcounty.ca.gov , and get a bunch of boxes at the top of the window.
The sites work fine in IE 5-7, Safari 2 and up, and Firefox. Someone on the ARStechnica forums mentioned they saw our servers (IIS and Unix/Apache) are set for uft-32. Okay, so does anyone know what we should have them set at so people (and our client) stop complaining we don't work with Safari Beta?
    Thanks for any feedback/help.
    Greg

    Thanks Tom,
I'll look into it. We're going to change the test server to utf-8, but can't until the one guy who has admin access to the box gets back from training in about a week. Yes, they could have given admin or sudo access to a few of us, but that would have made too much sense.

  • Timeline Options with NTSC DV & Uncompresses 8-bit (and others too)

Can someone explain the difference in picture I will see if I have DV and edit it on a NTSC-DV timeline vs. editing DV on an Uncompressed 8-bit timeline? Will it make a big difference after its all said and done and compressed in compressor ready to be put to DVD? What is the deal with all the diff settings within each timeline. Also, If i have edited DV in a NTSC-DV timeline...can I just copy and paste it to another timeline which I have set to a diff setting (i.e. uncompressed 8-bit or DV50 etc.....)?
    Hope my question made sense

If you shot DV, what you get is a 720x4380 4:1:1 image. Up rezing or up converting to a larger colorspace will not change that basic fact.
The only time going to a larger colorspace makes sense is if you are doing a great deal of titling/text or special effects. In that case, it may do you some good for composting the effects. It still will not make the basic footage look any better.
If I miss understood, please let me know.

  • Uncompressed 10-bit 4:2:2 with Audio in FCP

    Hi,
I've imported an Uncompressed 10-bit 4:2:2 HD (1920x1080) video (it's a capture of an HD transfer from 35mm film) into FCP 6 and now I'm trying to sync up my audio mix. I've got it synced with the pop at 2 and I've confirmed that the mix is synchronous with the print. But when I try playing it back (albeit very slowly) the audio is out of sync about 8-24 frames depending on what point of the film I play it at. Why is this?
Also, I should mention that I asked FCP to just convert my sequence to the settings embedded in the video file. The Sample and Bit rate also match up for the audio between the mix and FCP. Any ideas?
P.S. I should also mention that if I place the timeline at a certain point in the movie it will show me a particular frame. But if I decide to make a cut at that point all of a sudden the viewer will show me a different frame about a second or two earlier in the movie. Seems like it would be a frame rate issue, but I've got 23.98 video playing on a 23.98 timeline. Quicktime seems to think the video is 23.68 fps, which is weird. I don't know what to do with all of this, but hopefully someone does?

Most likely. It is not a consumer format.

  • Trouble exporting with QuickTime 7 to UNCOMPRESSED 10-bit 4:2:2

I have succeeded with shorter videos, but my 90 minute video returns "error -2125".
Somehow I managed to do this before, I'm not sure what has changed on my system. Does anyone else have trouble exporting to Uncompressed 10-bit 4:2:2 ? I'm now exporting to ProRes instead, but would prefer uncompressed video for the sake of quality.

You don't say what's the source of your clips.
If standard DV (..though I doubt that an agency would accept standard def video any more..) NTSC DV is compressed in the camera as 4:1:1, and PAL DV is compressed as 4:2:0 ..so you won't get true 4:2:2 from normal DV, unless you're using a broadcast camera (..probably feeding into the capture device via SDI inputs).
If the source was tape-based HDV or any other hi-def source, then iMovie converts that, during import, into Apple Intermediate Codec, and wouldn't be able to output proper Uncompressed 4:2:2 material.
For Uncompressed 4:2:2, I think you'll need to be using a dedicated capture card - and massive-capacity hard discs! - to be able to import the material in the first place.
iMovie certainly isn't the program to handle pro video of this nature.
Ask in the Final Cut Pro Discussions..
"..I've also tried doing this on my Macbook with Intel processor.." ..but maybe that's just not fast enough (older Mac portables have "shared graphics memory" ..meaning their graphics processor may have to compete with the main processor to temporarily grab free RAM)!

  • Uncompressed 8-bit standard def with anamorphic?

I read somewhere about using a sequence with uncompressed 8-bit standard def with anamorphic as an option for downcoverting from hdv. I'm using fcp5 and don't see that as an option - just uncompressed 8-bit without anamorphic.
Any solutions will be greatly appreciated.

Easiest way to get there (I think) is to copy the NTSC (or PAL) DV preset, then change the codec to uncompressed 8-bit. The anamorphic will be set and you'll be properly at 480 lines instead of 486.
That I think answers your question.
But you will then be faced with a sequence which requires rendering before viewing, and after most edits. Which is a lot of work in HDV.
Consider instead converting the media itself using Compressor. Don't let the name fool you - it can also save out as uncompressed. You can take an NTSC DV preset there as well, and edit it to be uncompressed 8-bit.
