720p24 transition errors

I'm having some strange problems with an HD project I'm working on. I've got footage taken from P2 via the HVX Panasonic camera in the 720, 24p (native) format. My project settings are at DVCPRO HD - 720p24. When I attempt to add video transitions (any kind), an extra frame appears before the transition starts. If I take the effect out, the extra frame disappears. I've searched through various discussions on the site but haven't discovered any answers. If anyone knows about this particular problem, please let me know (as usual, the project was due yesterday).

Ah...yes, this is a known bug with FCP 5.0.4. The solution is to upgrade your FCP to 5.1.1 and reimport the footage. I know...pain in the patoot.
OR...since this started happening to me and I can't upgrade as I am near the very end of the project and need to output it this weekend, what I have done is add the transition, razored the clip JUST BEFORE the transition and slipped the clip one frame back...so that the extra frame wasn't there.
But that is a stop gap measure. The real solution is to upgrade and reimport.

New iMac Intel, won't do transitions, error message HELP!

My daughter just bought a new Intel iMac, specifically for the purpose of making movies with iMovie. She has run into a problem trying to do transitions, using primarily Cross-Dissolve. Sometimes she can put them in and iMovie renders them. Then, other times, doing the same thing with the cross dissolve on another photo or clip, she receives this message: "An unknown error occured - You may be able to continue without any probelms. You may also wish to save, quit and relaunch imovie HD"
When she saves, quits and relaunches, the transition is not saved and she has to try placing it again. This has happened over and over; quit, relaunch. Inconsistent results in that sometimes she can put transitions in, and sometimes she cannot.
She has repaired permissions, deleted iMovie's and iPhoto's plists. No resolution of the problem.
This is a brand new computer. She did the iLife upgrades just after setting up the computer, when prompted to do so by Software Updater.
No one else is using the computer. She has a huge hard drive.
What can help?

We need HELP!!!

So far, she has just begun to create a new iMovie. Wants to transfer the video clips from the old project, as they are already edited. She is going to try that, knows it may be a problem, but thinks if she doesn't empty the trash, and reimports the photos, she might be ok.

My daughter is my offspring who made an iMovie before I did using 'iMovie for Dummies' with v2.
Other than that, she used her Mac computer only for school papers and emails. She used to call me from college and tell me the Mac had broken, and I would talk her through whatever problem she was having. She became quite good with Macs, but then switched to PCs after she got married to a software engineer. She now is great with them, but really wants to make movies and iMovie is much easier than the PC movie software. I was hoping that her project would go well, but she becomes frustrated so easily. She had just put in about three hours of work on her project when she ran into the transition difficulty. She has finally forgiven me for not mentioning the caveat about emptying the trash. I asked her if iMovie warned her first, but she said something about not understanding the message and just emptied the trash anyway. With 250GB on her drive, she has no need to free up space by emptying the trash!

Connected clips cannot have transitions error....what is it ?

I'm trying to break apart a compound clip and it is giving me an error......' The selected item contains at least one transition , if you click break apart , the transitions will be removed from the resulting connected clips .......
all compound clips have transitions ...big deal....what does this mean then??

We all are unknown to each other,many don't even have real names....this arguement can go on and on without any responsibility of decorum ....I will in future try to find answers to questions on other forums before coming here,
it's just a kind point of view that everybody who is thinking that I'm asking questions just to have fun and not searching is wrong because I do that..15-20 questions till now cannot teach you FCPx where I have completed an entire project with fx, titles and music..infact I always type the question first on google...
Secondly this episode has taught me a very big lesson ...that modesty is the most stupid trait....till my last post I was having long discussions with the best people on this forum and the way they were discussing things with me there were times when they realized that certain things were new problems , certain problems couldn't even be solved ....as nobody had an answer to it....but all this started after my modest reply of saying 'I don't know anything' before which there were 16 and 11 replies to my posts and some guys have gone out of the way to find work arounds for me .....so infact you are abusing their participation in my posts by saying that my questions were lazy questions, I posted a question with the least number of words only when I felt every search in google comes in the form of a long indirect confused question and nobody has written a smaller to the point problem....now no matter if you think I shouldn't have done that but I know lakhs of people will at once get to the exact problem...Thanks for your help.I have seen the posts of you all and seen there are several points that have been raised which I started learning fcpx with and can help those genius people.....I will keep in mind what you said and take extra initiative to find out everything from elsewhere before shattering egos here.But for your help in am better informed than before so thanks.Just one request if you don't want plz don't answer to my questions but STOP insulting people who were were a part of those lazy questions why are you pulling everybody forcefully in your boat ?.It is funny that that the interest which a particlar group had in a problem is contineously being tagged as generosity and kindness of helpless,employed , forced , bound social service guys....it is not so ...they answered because the question excited them...don't glorify your prejudice by firing guns from their shoulders..they can take care of themselves,don't make gangs here, talk alone if you have a point.....thankyou.

How can I make mail retry sending messages in the Outbox?

Howdy all,
As the title says how can a force Mail to try to resend the messages in the outbox? I use my MacBook Pro in a number of different environments and when I am on one flakey access point in particular or when I have forgotten to open Safari to reauthorize recently on another network Mail will fail to contact the SMTP server. When this happens my message gets stuck in the outbox to be sent later. My problem is that I do not know how to get it out of there effectively.
Once I have fixed the transitive error in the network (or or the problem fixes itself) how do I get the messages out of the inbox? At this point I can send more messages with no problem and they will happily go out but those in the queue just sit there.
Now, I have tried a number of things like quitting and restarting Mail, bringing the various network interfaces back up and down, and other things to try to trick Mail into sending the queued messages but that has been haphazard at best. I can't help thinking that there is something obvious I am missing.

Highlight the message in the inbox, double-click on it, and click on the "send" icon
You may even consider BCCing yourself to see whether the message actually goes or not, and you just have an artifact copy stuck in your outbox that you could then just delete.
Otherwise, copy&paste the stuck message body into a new message, and delete the stuck one out of the outbox before attempting to send the new one

Many Premiere Problems

My confidence in Premiere Pro is shaken. The latest version is having Exporting problems...random red flashes, and compositing problems when choosing "Use Maximum Render Quality", all while using software only rendering.
My clients are not happy, I look bad.
I'm using Premiere Pro 7.1 on a Mac Pro 4,1 Quad core 8 processor 2.93 Ghz. OSX 10.8.3
I have a graphics card, that has lots of cuda cores, but is not on your approved list (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 2560 MB), (and causes dissolves and other transition errors) so I use software only rendering and "Match Sequence Settings" to output a correct movie (in the past). Now that is not a sure-fire solution with this red flash flame problem.
The compositing problem concerns alpha channel keys that double or maybe triple their opacity on export when using the Maximum Render Quality option. Semi-transparent layers are no good.
I shouldn't forget, I'm waiting (for over 18 months) for the ability to color correct with speedgrade to my Flanders Pro Monitor via AJA Kona LHE+. Currently it crashes every time I try to turn on the external picture signal.
The inconsistencies in routing audio to external speakers between programs. In Premiere's preferences, audio hardware options, you need to use System Default Input/Output and in the Mac's System preferences the Sound preference needs to be on "Internal Speakers". Yet with Audition, I need to change the Mac's Sound preference to AJA. Audition also needs to be set to AJA. By the way, I haven't been able to have Premiere and Audition running at the same time, for these audio discrepancies, I believe.
So my question, is adobe going to get to a professional state that I can trust, and use effectively? My doubts are growing. Are there answers to my problems?

This might sound like a silly question but when you installed your operating system, did you do a clean install. We have found that overwriting causes so many issues with communication btwn software and the hardware. We wipe and re-install all the software on all 4 suites every 6 months. It's a tiny ball-ache but we don't really have that many issues.
Do you also have a media on a shared network drive (NAS or SanMP for example) this can effect the reliability greatly deoending on what types of media you have and what wrting permissions you have on this drives.
We use Blackmajic for our monitoring, which isnt bad. Again, with CS^ we had sync issues and still do a bit in CC but it's managable. We found that PrPro CS6 used to have issues with sound outputting and would lose but CC seems to have ironed out most of that for us.
I used Speedgrade for about an hour recently.... nightmare in UI, speed (or lack of) and actual ability to effect the picture the way we wanted. We now use Resolve and it's great... quick and easy when needed and precise when you want to take ages on one shot.
Can I ask what TL settings you use mainly and what types of files you are outputting etc.

Trouble with fork in owb

Hi,
I have a process ( called main) which calls sub processes sp1, sp2 and sp3 using a fork. all the 3 sub processes have got the transitions error, warning and success .
There are 3 operators. namely
1 .and operator (sp1 success and sp2 sucess and sp3 sucess ) leading to end-success
2. or operator ( or of sp1 error, sp2 error or sp3 error ) leading to end-error
3. or operator ( or of sp1 warn, sp2 warn or sp3 warn ) leading to end-error
If any of the processes fails say sp2 (due to error), because of the or operator it would go to the operator no. 2 and result in end-error.
The trouble is the given the same scenario, though the workflow process has ended gracefully, sp1 continues to execute as a process in the background. As a result of which i cannot redeploy the process flow.
My requirement is that if sp2 fails, all the processes should end gracefully and the workflow process should be available for redeployment.

You might need to reduce the number of errors allowed in each process, or fix any errors befor running. It sounds like sp1 hasn't reached its max error limit so it dosn't stop

IOS 8 - Missing "iPad" on top left corner.

on ios 8; my ipad 2 (wi-fi & 3g) has no longer "ipad" on top left corner. when i turn on and then off cellular data; it's appear. but when i restart the device; it's disappear. only wi-fi bars shown.

Add my 64GB 5S on iOS 7.0.3 to the list of phones with the white graphical problem in the top left during app transition.
I did notice a graphical problem with the Voice Memos app (native to iOS 7) when you double-click the home button to close apps, and then look at the app icon when clicking back into the first screen. When I moved that app to the 3rd row, the white transition error went away. When I tried to move the Maps app, there was no change. When I moved the Voice Memos app back to the 2nd row, I was unable to get the problem to duplicate again. So I don't know which app move actually corrected the problem, but at least it's gone.
(Your results may vary, but I thought I'd chime in to join the discussion and add to the pool of problem device/OS problems).

Updated but not sure if its right

i updated my firmware version for my N97 from 10.0.012 > 11.0.021 but im not sure if its right, when i do *#0000# it shows my new version of the software, but my internal memory stays intact, i did not lose any files(even though i did a backup) is that alright? did any of u guys have the memory wipedout after the update? help pls asap im very new to this

How do I resolve share frame errors (-1) with frames in which FCP seems to place a transition mark in the form of an L-shaped or reverse L-shaped figure?

When I try to use Share to a master file, I get an error that states: "The share operation Master File has failed. The operation could not be completed because an error occurred when creating frame 158 (error -1)." This has occurred with different frame numbers. When I delete them, it might disappear for that frame, but then shows up later for others. It seems that the problem is occuring right at the transition point between two clips. FCP seems to be putting an L-shaped figure on the last frame of one clip and a reverse L-shaped figure on the first frame of the next clip. The faulty frame seems to be one of those two frames. The clips I am having trouble with were from an old, non-digital cameral. We had converted them to DVDs and then I converted them to MPEG-4 files using Mac X DVD Ripper Pro. The converter seems to work fine and I can play the converted movie with Quick Time. Also, FCP will import the converted movie and works just fine with it as a clip and in the timeline. But when I try to share, I keep getting these errors. Short of deleting all of these old clips from the movie, which would be sad, how do I solve this problem?
After looking at previous discusion threads I have already saved to a new project, deleted the clip and re-imported it, and eliminated the transition effect from between the clips. But I still get the same errors.
I also get an error when I try to share to DVD, but that error is a "0" error that doesn't mark the location of the problem. I'm assuming it is the same problem as the one when I try to share to master file.
One other weird thing is that in a slightly older version of the movie with the same clips, I was not able to share to DVD but it did share to a master file. That almost seems like pure luck right now.

MPEG-4 should not be used in FCP unless it is converted first or optimized in the application.
Trash your preferences. Trash your project render files. Switch off background rendering. Do not re-render. Export your projects.
Ignore the last frame and first frame indicators.

Error message when trying to add transition or won't render anything!

I had been very successful in building a movie with video clips and still photos, and all was going along well until all of a sudden, I cannot add any more transitions! I keep getting an error message that states: "An unknown error occurred. You may be able to continue without any problems. You may also wish to save, quit, and re-launch IMovie HD."
Occasionally, it will let me add the transition, but then it just sits there for hours and will not render. I'm up to a 1 1/2 hour movie, which has taken nearly two weeks to build (I'm very new at this!) and would hate to start over!! I did try making a new movie, and the transitions ran just fine!
I have restarted umpteen times, even reinstalled IMovie HD. I'm running system 10.4.6 with an 80G harddrive, but have the movie saved on an external harddrive because it wouldn't fit on the other one. (It's at 22 G now!!)

I spoke too soon. I began a new movie and imported

Aha! That may be different problem. There's a bug in iMovie that makes it impossible to update image clips after you empty the iMovie trash. If you imported the image with the Ken Burns checkbox ON, the bug can affect you later.
It's possible, I suppose, that this bug not only prevented you from updating the clips to a new duration, but made it impossible to add the transition to the clips.
After importing your images with the Ken Burns checkbox on, you might try dragging the source image out of the iMovie trash, described here:

Why error message when trying to put in a transition?

I'm using iMovie 4 and can not put in a transition. I'm getting error message 4960, "error in system operation". I've successfully added transitions up until now. What gives? Thanks.

Have you tried either of the free Ringtone converter programs - MusicTones or MiniTones?
Both can be found on freewarepalm.com. If you need help with either, I can assist...

I keep getting "codec error" when trying to render my transitions. I tried changing my codec but then I have to render my entire footage.

The first screenshot is my raw footage info.
The second screenshot is what I set my sequence to. This made me able to edit without rendering, but now that I am putting in transitions, I have to render and when I try to render it says "codec error". Anyone know what I'm missing?

When I go to Easy Setup I don't see ProRes there either.

if a Mac OSX Computer is in near - try iBackup Viewer.
This is free of charge and can read your backup.
and thats the main difference. Those tools are reading the saved Data in the backup
but itunes attempts to restore the data from the backup on your iphone. if there are any corrupted data in the backup - the backup restore goes wrong. this can happen during security software or wrong corrupt data already stored on the iphone.
if itunes messed up to restore from backup try this one :
- restore your iphone to factory settings using HT1808 or reset all settings and content direct from iphone
- rename your iPhone (e.g. iPhone Test)
- setup your iPhone as new device -> attempt to make a new backup - if successful -
- click in itunes on restore from backup... and choose your desired backup
or go to:
Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(Username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Windows Vista - Windows 7: \Users\(Username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Pull your complete BackupFolder and try a different PC - copy the BackupFolder on this different PC in the same Path above - start iTunes and see if your Backup is there - attempt to restore from Backup again
