7300 - DVI-I or DVI-D?

Hi
Im a little confused, does the 7300 output DVI-I or DVI-D?
Cheers
Nick

The Mac Pro does have a DVI-I port!
DVI-I does contain both DVI-A (analog) and DVI-D (digital) signals.
So you can connect a DVI-D and a DVI-A screen!
Ofcourse you can also connect a VGA screen with the DVI-VGA adapter.
Hopefully this is helpfull or solved your problem. Consider rewarding some points!

  • DVI to Component Video Output YpBr- Mac Pro NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT Card

    Hello-
I am trying to use my Mac Pro as a media machine, but to do this I need to convert the DVI signal to Component video. The video switch I am using is Component only, so that is the reason why I cannot go HDMI.
What is the best solution? Do they make an adapter that will convert? Is there a graphics card issue?
On a sidenote, will the computer be able to operate with two video cards? I was thinking of having one HDMI output to my main television monitor, and having component video going to my switch for the other monitors located around the house.

What about upgrading to this video card?

It will give more graphics performance, but you don't need it for just displaying video. If you do want extra performance, get the ATI Radeon HD 4870

  • Nvidia GeForce 7300 GT with dual link DVI connector..

With my old MD PowerMac G4 I ran a 23" Apple display and connected a Sony Bravia HD TV through the HDMI/DVI cable. I cannot physically connect both at the same time. Either one connector blocks the other from completely seating to the video card. It is like the ports are too close to each other.
    Am I missing something?
    Thanks in advance.

Thank you, you have enlighten me on the matter. There is a slight size difference and apparently just enough to make two connection on the Nvidia card.
    Thanks again.

  • Nvidia FX 4500 + GeForce 7300 for 3 DVI Displays

I am running a mac pro with FX4500 connecting to two displays. Now I want to add one - could I add a GeForce 7300 to run with FX4500 for the third display ?

Any performance considerations / impact of using this mix-n-match combinations - as the 2 cards are very different in power.
Not today although that "may" change in the future.
Current applications that utilise the power of the GPU, such as Final Cut Studio and games, can only do so with a single CPU. So, as long as you main display(s) are connected to your Quadro you'll be fine. That then reverts additional cards to the task of simply displaying video which even the Intel GMA950 in the MacBook/Mac mini is capable of doing.
Where this may change is when application begin to be able to harness the power of multiple GPUs. This is not the same as SLI or Crossfire. For instance, Final Cut Studio being able to utilise the processing power in all of your GPUs concurrently. Also, games that are able to span multiple displays the similarity of the GPU power may begin to matter… imagine playing Unreal Tournament on 3 x 30" displays .

  • Mac Pro and DVI to Video Adapter

I just received a new Mac Pro with a GeForce 7300 card and was planning to use it in part to display video on a set of TV monitors using the Apple DVI to Video Adapter. Try as I might I have not been able to get the computer to recognize a TV regardless of the DVI port and using both S-Video and RCA. I now see that in Apple's store the converter is classified as Requiring a "MacBook Pro, Mac mini or Power Mac G5 with DVI port". Not sure if there's any way around this. The adapter has worked fine in the past with both a Mac Mini and a G5 tower. If anyone knows a possible workaround or if an updated adapter is forthcoming I would appreciate the information.

Just to be clear here: There is no way to get S-Video
output from my $~2700 machine (with the stock
7300gt)? Not even with (maybe forthcoming) additional
adapters? This is pretty embarrassing. Actually I'm
    sorta angry.
Are there any other options like DVI->VGA->S-Video
maybe? I surely won't dump $150 into the trash just
to have that (supposedly) noisy beast of a x1900
screaming around here. Just for S-Video. This is
    silly.
There are VGA to S-Video converters but they cost more than the Apple adapter. Here is one. Probable a bit fancier than you want. There are others.
    <http://www.ramelectronics.net/html/PC-TVvideoadapter.html>
The Apple adapter is cheap because all the work is being done in the video card when it detects the adapter. The video card outputs the S-Video brightness and color, and the composite video on the DVI pins that would normally be used for analog red, green, and blue, using the A/D converters normally used for a CRT. The adapter just sends the signals to different connectors. The adapter won't do anything with a card that wasn't designed to output TV video.

  • Nvidia 7300GT card compatible with Apple's DVI to VGA Adaptor?

To rephrase, is the Mac Pro's stock Nvidia 7300 GT card able to support the Apple DVI to VGA connector which would allow me to connect a Viewsonics CRT? And will that card also allow me to connect a second CRT for dual monitors?

The card used with the adapter allows use of standard VGA monitors. There is always the chance that it won't, due to some irregularity, but I doubt it. Many have posted using VGA monitors and having no issues. Apple issues the adapter for your type of scenario.

i purchased an apple DVI to Video (RCA)/S-Video adapter for my old power mac G5 so that i could use my television as a second monitor for editing in final cut and for watching recorded TV. it worked perfectly. Now that i have a mac pro, the same adapter will not output video through the rca or s-video port of the adapter. all that shows up is the desktop monitor, no matter which DVI ports i plug them into. i've got the NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT. anyone know why the adapter isn't working anymore? thank you.

it should be working. the only reason it wouldnt is if nvidia dropped support for analogue displays in that card (which means not all the pins would be connected up). have you tried plugging everything in, turning the tv on and then rebooting? ive sometimes had to restart in order to get osx to properly recognise my tv.

  • DVI-HDMI Adapter for hooking up a HDTV...Few problems...

I have a spare 32" Sharp HDTV with HDMI, so I placed this next to my Mac Pro and used a DVI-HDMI adapter. Here are the problems:
With my standard GeForce 7300 GT you cannot use both connectors, as they are too close together - so I could not even test to see whether both DVI outputs can work at the same time. So I have to disconnect my 23" cinema display. Now, the Macpro recognizes the TV - in the display preferences - but the resolutions are not good - the only one that works is 1280x720. Other resolutions listed, ie, 1344x756 and higher are listed as interlaced and all cause flicker. This means I do not see the OSX top menus.
I wish to be able to show clients samples of edited movie clips on a HDTV both in FCP and standalone QT. I doubt that appleTV is the answer, as this only works in iTunes - plus, my Mac is next to my TV anyway.
Any thoughts on making this work better? I am trying to not have to buy a new video card. Maybe the Black Magic Intensity card for HDMI output is the answer?

I can live with the lower resolution - the TV is actually 1366 x 768, but the most annoying is not being able to use both DVD connectors on the card at the same time - they are too close together, how stupid is that?
Ideally, I would like to see both the cinema display and the HDTV running at the same time - or least not having to manually switch over the adapter at the rear.
I see no way around this, unless I change video cards but for $250 I can get the Black Magic HDMI card which outputs DV via HDMI to HDMI.

  • DVI to VGA or DVI to HDMI for Sony Bravia

I have a 52" Bravia HDTV that i have hooked up to my Mac Pro (with NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT video card) . I bought a DVI to VGA adapter since teh Bravia doesnt have a DVI port, but has a "PC" port. All my friends tell me to use "DVI to HDMI" better. What are the advantages? i am asking because the screen looks great with the VGA connection .I just watched several HD trailers for different movies on the Bravia and they look REALLY HD and clean. So is it really going to look even better ? or is there another advantage to using HDMI ? Thanks
a side question, when i restarted my Mac Pro that had the Bravia and the mac display hooked up , the display was blinking on startup (where it keeps flashing a light blue screen) until i restarted it again . What happened ?

The HDMI port can give sharper vertical edges, but some TVs don't work well with computers via HDMI. The only way to tell is to try it.

  • Z61p 9540CTO Advanced Dock to get DVI-D working at 1080p [1920x1080] WUXGA

Please help it is difficult to call Lenovo support and get answers--so this forum is my last resort.

I would like to know if I purchase a DVI-I to HDMI 1.3 certified cable that it will work to display on a 1080P 46" LCDTV/Monitor?  I need the highest resolution (1920 by 1080) possible to read text from IE or Windows programs from several feet away.

I don't have any response for your first question, but I might be able to give an answer to your second one.
I have the same laptop with 2GB of RAM and recently took the plunge and bought the Ultrabay Enhanced Blu-ray Burner despite the fact that it explicitly said that it would only work with some R series models. When I initially tried it, Blu-ray playback was unacceptably jerky. Then I discovered that there is a place in the ATI Catalyst Center settings where you can set the video acceleration level of the graphics chipset. There are settings like "optimize for battery life", "optimize for balanced use",  and "optimize for performance". It defaulted to "optimize for battery life" (even in the highest battery profiles, for some reason). When I tried the highest setting, things were very smooth.
I have to qualify my comments a little, though. My main aim in buying the drive was for watching high-def movies from the laptop on long overseas flights. For that reason, most of my experimentation has revolved around playing back movies from the ripped images of Blu-ray discs copied onto the hard drive. (I upgraded to a 320GB hard drive, just for this.) Under those conditions (i.e., playback from hard drive), I can even keep the laptop in the "maximum battery life" power profile and the ATI Catalyst setting to "optimize for performance" still gives me smooth playback with 10 to 20% CPU use. However, I'm not sure how this would be affected if you wanted to play straight from the optical drive. (Probably not much.)
One other thing I should point out is that you may have to play with some settings to get the best image quality while watching Blu-ray discs. This is admittedly not so much a function of the drive itself but more of the software you'd be using and the graphics chipset. I tried the HQV high-def benchmark disc and the initial results were less than stellar. I was using PowerDVD software for Blu-ray playback (WinDVD was unable to play a Blu-ray disc image from the hard drive). Most of my image quality issue seemed to be related to deinterlacing. It turns out that PowerDVD has its own deinterlacing settings, and so does the ATI chipset. I believe I found the best combination by turning the deinterlacing off in the software and allowing it to happen only in the chipset. (Or vice versa; I can look it up to verify, if you need me to.)
My beef with this drive now is finding a solution to give me drive letter access to rewritable Blu-ray discs. I've gotten used to the convenience of this for DVDs and CDs. The software situation for doing this is pretty murky. Nero 8 seems like it might be capable of doing this, but I don't have it and I'm not sure I'd like to buy it yet just for this feature. The other authoring software I already had (Roxio and Sonic DLA) is unable to treat a BD-RE disc like a drive letter, and the software bundled with the drive doesn't seem capable of this either (although it seems like it can write data to a BD-RE disc by defining an explicit session; the old-fashioned way). If you come across any solution for drive letter access to rewritable (or write-once) Blu-ray discs, let me know.

Works great functions perfectly. I purchased the DVIator (Pronounced DEE-VEE-ATOR)a few years ago when I sold my G5 tower with ADC and purchased a 2006 MacPro which has an nVidia Geforce 7300 GT the card is DVI. Worked on my Mac Pro too. Only thing is I am not sure if the Australian Power Grid is 220-240V, but you can check out the site and email them. • 7300GT with DVI and DVI to svideo

I just wanted to be sure there were no issues when using a DVI connection to an lcd screen and the dvi-to-svideo converter to a television. I don't have a second dvi lcd to test, but the Mac isn't recognizing the dvi-to-svideo connection.

The X1900 XT actually provides an s-video signal which the adaptor merely picks out. It doesn't actually convert the signal, merely the plug which allows you to use standard s-video cables. The 7300 GT does not provide this extra signal so there is nothing for the adaptor to "pick out".
    dtich wrote:
i don't even want an x1900 card. all i want is a third monitor.
You would not be able to get three different displays using the s-video port (this is true on pretty much any graphics card which includes an s-video out connector, even if it is separate from the other connectors). When using the s-video, you have one DVI/VGA connection and the other one is unused. I'm not really sure how, even if the adaptor had worked, this would work. It completely blocks the port. I suppose you COULD split the s-video connection and send the signal to two different devices, but this would only mirror. It would not have two independant displays.
There is one other option, you could pick up a device such as the following (there may be different types, this is the first I found):
    http://www.aver.com/ppd/averkeyimicro.html
It actually takes a VGA signal and creates a s-video signal from it. Additionally it looks like it allows passthrough of the original signal to a monitor at the same time (again, only mirroring, not independant). It's just under $100. Also, I came across auctions on eBay (not endorsing them or anything, you assume all risks associated with online bidding, blah, blah) for this device used @ around $30 or so. This SHOULD, according to the description, work. I've never used the device myself.

  • DVI not working but VGA is on 7300GT on Mac Pro

I ran into an odd issue where upon starting up Mac Pro, my second 7300 GT Card was not outputting video to monitors 2 & 3. They were connected to my 2 ViewSonic 2025 LCD's. The stock video card worked fine. I powered down the Mac and still no joy after resetting PRAM and re-seating the card. Next I tried using DVI to VGA adapter and plugging into the ViewSonics VGA ports and this worked fine. I'm stumped-any ideas? Could it be the displays? If so, it seems odd that both LCD's would do it at the same time.

You say monitors two and three, do you have two video cards or are you splitting a signal?
